I started my engine and was backing up my car, when I noticed I couldn't turn the steering wheel. I stopped the engine and restarted the car as indicated in the manual. The steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. The car was towed to the Honda dealership and they gave me a bill of $1800 to work on the power steering to torque sensor? and the pins and rack? I'm terrified that this will occur again, but when I am driving resulting in an accident. I am terrified that the replacement parts will fail. This is a 2013 Honda Accord coupe, I don't think the power steering should be failing in 2015. What will prevent the replacement parts from being just as faulty? I understand there is an investigation on this model, but Honda dealership seems to be sitting down until people are injured.

On July 2, 2015 while driving 40 mph, power steering failed and indicator light came on. Had car towed to dealer next day, software update done, and I was told the problem should not reoccur. On oct 6, 2015, while turning into a parking lot, it failed again. Had car towed to dealer and told they will now replace gearbox. I asked what was causing this and how this fix will work and was told they don't know! they're following instructions from the manufacturer. This is very unsafe, and appears Honda does not truly know how to fix this.
Electronic power steering system has failed for the 5th time in the last month. Eps light illuminates on dashboard, total loss of steering control. Vehicle is not safe to drive. Was originally cleared by turning the car on and off, but now fails immediately upon starting vehicle. Dealership quoted $1,700 repair - this should be a recall.

While driving down farris rd at ~40 mph the eps light came on and the power steering failed. This happened on the way back from my pregnant wife's doctor appointment. We pulled over to the nearest empty parking lot and read the manual. We hadn't been doing any of the things the manual said would cause this. Over the next 10 miles this happened 3 more times. Once while sitting still in a drive through line. We called our Honda dealership and the offered to let us schedule an appointment and receive a shuttleride home. My wife got us slightly better service with a facebook post and they offered to look at our car that day and comped us a rental car under warranty. Several hours later we received a call that after speaking with their tech support they will need to replace the rack.
The vehicle steering simply 'shut-down', or locked-up out of nowhere. It appears the power steering system simply failed. I was only able to regain control of the steering by bringing the vehicle to a full stop in order to turn it off and then restart it. . . As though I were rebooting a crashed computer! the issue repeated itself three times the next day, once while driving at full speed on a public street. We resolved to stop driving it, but by reflex I took it out the third consecutive day only to have the issue recur twice, thankfully none of these failures occurred while we were executing a turn, otherwise we may have crashed into something or someone, as some of the other complaints describe. I have now put the vehicle into storage until Honda addresses the issue definitively, as others describe dealership diagnoses across the board, with virtually all admitting the issue was unresolved, even after repair or replacement of the diagnosed component(s). Whether I simply have a lemon, or this is a recall issue in the making, I do not yet know, but what I do know is that this appears to be a very serious safety issue rendering the vehicle too dangerous to drive.
I was driving and was about to turn on to my street and my power steering failed. It became really hard to turn. If there was a car parked I would have hit that car. I parked shut off the car and restarted the car and it seem fine till I turned the steering and as soon as I did it did the same exact things. Honda replaced the part. But its really dangerous and I worry if or when it will go out again.
My 2006 Accord along with 500,000+ others and 52,000+ Acura tls had a recall regarding the power steering hose. I want to mention I have owned 20 some cars over the years, many with 200,000 miles or more. So, in June I took my Accord in for an oil change and mentioned my power steering felt a little off. . . So, turns out Honda stated my power steering pump was failing and replaced it. And, there was no association with the power steering hose recall, so expense was all on me. Now, I have had to replace exactly 1 power steering pump in my life and it was oddly on the only car that ever had an issue with a power steering hose. . . Coincidence? I do find this troublesome for 2 reasons, 1) power steering works off pressure and if a hose is faulty that would impact the pressure and thus potentially cause pumps to overwork, etc and 2) since the hose was recalled, was the indentification of a failed pump a cost recovery discovery? I ask this second one because my power steering felt worse after replacement and turned out I just needed my tires rotated. I did write to Honda but have yet to receive a response. The purpose here however is civic duty in nature and I felt it worth asking the question, how many of the 550,000+ recalls for power steering hoses have also resulted in power steering replacements?.

The driver was was turning left into our neighborhood. The power steering failed and he could not turn. The vehicle went over the curve and crashed into a fire hydrant. It pushed the car up in the air and back down hard. None of the airbags deployed.
The power steering failed while driving down the freeway. The handling was more difficult but the car was drivable to my workplace. Checking under the hood it was evident that the high pressure power steering hose failed at the connection directly above the catalytic converter. After doing a little online research, it appears that the failure is identical to the failures covered by a recall for the 6 cylinder models of Honda Accords for 2003 to 2007 years. . Read more...
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, he noticed the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact stated that the power steering failed and the battery warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. Also, the temperature gauge reading increased and immediatelly after the contact noticed smoke emitting from underneath the hood. After placing the vehicle in park the contact inspected the vehicle and noticed power steering fluid spraying out of the power steering hose which was cracked in two places. In addition, the alternator belt was shredded at the edges. The vehicle was towed to the contacts home and was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 12v222000 (steering:hydraulic power assist:hose, piping, and connections) that may be related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 129,885. Pmb.
I was driving the car on my way on 101 and power steering got failed while the car was running on 101. I was about to hit a car after but some how I realized that steering is responding late failed and I controlled the car . I was with my wife and son so thank to god for saving me on that day. I was under Honda care warranty so they covered all repair cost.

My 2003 Honda Accord had a transmission failure at 52,000 miles. Car also diagnosed with power steering rack failure. Car has been serviced exclusively at the dealership where it was purchased. All maintenance done at recommended intervals. Service department has been given carte blanche to repair/replace any part over the last 8 years. This should not happen. Very disappointing.
Power steering pump failed on my 2005 Honda Accord ex v6. Am seeing a lot of reports of issues with the power steering pumps on this model. Wanted to report my issue, and see if Honda was aware of the issue.

At about 48,000 miles on the cars odometer, my power steering pump failed, it was not all the time only when turning and parking, with vehicle not in motion. The dealer said that the power steering pump was loosing pressure and that it only happens on v6 models.
