36 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2014 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

Loss of power steering while turning at a curve. Well known road, in my neighborhood, up a hill. Drive it daily. To avoid hitting, climbed on curb, , took entire strength I had to put vehicle back in straight line. As a result car suffered minor damage, I pulled some muscles I never knew I had. I barely avoided hitting the a billboard sign head on. I am grateful for there being no pedestrians on the sidewalk, as it is close to an elementary school. Fluid leaked from car afterwards. I never had issues with the car prior, had it for a year, a brand new lease. Honda dealership said all the damage is from the impact to curb. Cannot find faults. Dangerous situation.

37 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2013 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/26/2015

While traveling down a country road I stopped to make a right turn, as soon as I made the right turn the steering light came on and my steering wheel stiffened up tot he point where I could not turn properly. As soon as I tried turning in either direction the steering wheel would feel like it wanted to turn the opposite direction. Was able to safely drive to a gas station and turned off car. Once it was shut down we checked the power steering fluid and it was full. Checked for any leaks could not find any. Left vehicle turned off for at least 10 minutes then restarted. The light did not stay on and the steering wheel became manageable. Will contact dealer to see if there is anything they can do. I doubt it though, not unless they can replicate the incident themselves.

38 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2001 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

I was driving in my neighborhood making a left turn from aspen hill road onto norbeck road in maryland when my steering suddenly failed. I had to use all of my strength to keep the car from crashing. Upon stopping and inspecting the power steering fluid, it was empty. I tried adding fluid and it just leaked out onto the ground from the steering rack. I called a Honda dealer and was told that the steering rack failed and that it will cost over $2000 to repair it.

40 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2008 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/13/2015

My car was leaking fluid which I was unaware. My starter went out and the dealer said that the power steering fluid was leaking so bad if I did not repair it there could be an engine fire as well as damage to the alternator. He had to replace the entire power steering pump because he said that the leak was too bad to just replace the o ring and hose. I brought my car to moss motors in lafayette, louisiana for the repair. I believe that since I only had 70,000 miles on my car that this power steering system is an obvious defect and safety hazard.

41 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2002 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

Power steering fluid leaking from pressure line hose. Steering control seems strange and burning oil smell coming from engine. Honda has recall for same item on 2003-2007 models. If same problem for same part is evident on 2002 model is this vehicle at risk for losing steering control and possible fire hazard? if so, why wouldn't the recall extend to 2002 models and should Honda fix for free? if not, are you saying there is no safety problem to be concerned with?.

42 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2000 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

I bought my 2000 Honda Accord 4cyl. About one month ago from an owner. Drove perfect for the first week. Then one morning my brake pedal got really soft. After checking all fluids and leaks found out that my brake lines were rusted. I took my vehicle to a small shop to get my brake lines replaced. I then got a call a few days later saying I should go down and check something they noticed on my car. Turns out the passenger subframe is rusted and rotted out. Everything else underneath the car is clean. The mechanic said it's weird that only the passenger side subframe is rusted. He told me it could break apart anytime. Being that it's no longer safe to drive I have to get it replaced now. The cost is going to be about $1200 with labor. When I got home I started doing some research and found that there are thousands of other people who are having the same problem as I do on their Honda Accords. Honda should do a recall on this being it's a structural component to car and safety issue. Hopefully Honda will recall this subframe problem and reimburse me later.

45 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2011 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

The dealership advised that the power steering rack was leaking the fluid and would have to be replaced. I know there was a recall for this same thing on earlier model Honda Accords. I wonder if it's still an issue as my car is just over 3 years old and only 46,000 miles.

46 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Power steering fluid is leaking onto the exhaust from the power steering pressure hose. There was a recall on this exact same problem for 2003-2007 Honda Accords. However my vehicle wasn't included. It is the exact same issue described in the recall.

47 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2012 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

High pitched sound noticed while driving has been happening since shortly after car was purchased (we are 1st owners). Discovered steering fluid is leaking. Repair shop recommends new rack and pinion. Clearly a manufacturers defect since car has such low mileage (only 36,000 now and we've been having to steering fluid off for some time). Very disappointing.

49 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the power steering hose was leaking fluid and there was an abnormal winding noise from the steering wheel. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 12v222000 (steering) the following day and the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the power steering hose was replaced. The contact stated that the abnormal noise persisted even after the recall repairs were performed. The vehicle was then taken to the contact?s independent mechanic where it was advised that the power steering pump had also failed as a result of lack of fluid. The mechanic stated that the initial power steering hose failure was the cause of the power steering pump failing. The dealer was also contacted and advised the contact that the repair would not be covered under the recall and any further repairs to the power steering component would be at his expense. The manufacturer was also contacted and confirmed that they would take no liability for the power steering pump failure. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 129,000. The VIN was not available.

50 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2006 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/12/2014

I went to the Honda north of clovis, CA for a routine oil change and was told that my rack & pinion needed to be replaced due to power steering fluid leaking and causing damage. I was quoted $934. 77 to perform this procedure. I did some research on this as my car had always made a strange clicking/creaking noise when turning the wheel. I thought this was normal as I'd never owned a Honda before. In my research I found that v6 models of the 2006 Honda Accord have been issued a recall, #12v222000. Apparently my model is not included in this recall however, it should be. I only have 87,358 miles on my car and have always maintained the car properly. I also purchased an extended warranty 7 years, 126k miles when I purchased my vehicle. That warranty just expired in September of 2013 and the dealer notified me that this repair would not be covered under warranty. I am certain that the steering fluid has been leaking since before my warranty was expired as it has led to the damage of the entire rack & pinion. They also noted that there is some grease on the cv which was probably caused from the power steering leak. I feel that the 2006 Honda Accord ex model needs to be included in this recall as it is more than apparent that this is a faulty part regardless of being a v6 or not. I would appreciate some advice as to how this can be remedied.

51 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2005 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the high pressure power steering hose fractured with no warning and that there was an internal leak causing the failure. The contact was able to take the vehicle to a store to refill the power steering fluid. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the high pressure power steering hose. The contact stated that the failure progressed and recurred due to the low pressure power steering hose having a random leak with no warning years later. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 12v222000 (steering). The dealer was notified of the failure and contact was able to order the part from the dealer. The contact was waiting to receive the part from the dealer to be repaired by the contact. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. Dyd.

52 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

Around December 2012 I started noticing a loud whining noise coming from the power steering pump on a cold start along with a whining noise when slightly rocking the steering wheel back and forth. After a couple of minutes of the car warming up the noise goes away. Now I have received a recall letter NHTSA campaign id number: 12v222000 just recalling the power steering hose to be replaced. (letter received on 3/12/2014) I immediately took my vehicle to the dealer on 3/13/2014 and had the hose replaced under the recall and also paid for them to go ahead and replace the o-ring in the other hose to see if that was the cause of the problem also. They stated without a diagnostic test they wouldn't know for sure if it is the steering pump or not (understandable), but when my car was finished, the service tech informed me that the mechanic discovered my rack and pinion are now leaking fluid and want to charge me $1,220. 00 plus tax to fix and not to mention that I still do not know yet if the power steering pump has now gone bad because of this. I find this totally unexceptable and I believe the whole power steering system is faulty and should be covered under recall.

55 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 04/05/2013

My vehicle was subject to NHTSA recall #12v222000 which recalled steering:hydraulic power assist:hose, piping, and connections. I initially was informed of the recall by a cnn article and research on the Honda website on October 1, 2012. I began noticing leaking power steering fluid and subsequent power steering issues in November 2012. I was informed in a letter from Honda that I would receive notice that parts were available February 2013 and that my particular recall could not be completed until the parts were in stock. I received notice on March 19, 2013 that parts were available and had the hose replaced on April 5, 2013. During the repair process, I was informed that due to the defective part, the power steering pump would need replaced as it has cracked and leaked power steering fluid. I lost all power steering and had the pump replaced on April 5, 2013. This part is not covered under the recall but for the defective hose, the problem would not have occurred. I am seeking to file a complaint against Honda to reimburse my cost of parts and include the power steering pump as a part of the recall.

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

The hose on the consumers vehicle was confirmed to have failed and it caused the power steering pump to fail.

57 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 1999 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 01/30/2013

These are 2 complaints, first one is the power steering leak on my 1999 Accord, after hearing about possible fire from fluid leak on newer models I was concerned that this could be an issue with older models also. The second is not a safety issue but a quality issue inregards to the clear coat coming off the car. It would be nice if Honda would step up and address these concerns from loyal Honda owners.

58 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/22/2012

My 2004 Honda Accord had an engine fire caused by a defective high pressure power steering hose. The hose sprung a leak, spraying power steering fluid onto the engine, which caught fire. This defect is already the subject of NHTSA recall 12v-222, but inactivity and foot-dragging on Honda's part has caused this otherwise avoidable safety incident.

59 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2004 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 12/01/2012

Please help me figure out what to do with this. I received a call from Honda approximately a year ago. . . For power steering hose to be replaced free of charge due to it over heating and deteriorating causing a leak of power steering fluid. Once I got the notice I went to have it replaced but I believe by the time I got the notice it may have been to late because now it has caused it to now leak power steering could into the rack and pinion. I have done oil changes and done a complete tune up up to date but this is causing the power steering fluid to waste and is deteriorating the rack and pionion. Not having the proper amount of power steering makes it much more difficult to steer the car easily. I have to constantly drive worried that the car may lose control and I have two children I am driving with everest I cannot afford for me to lose control over something that should have been detected and gives when I went to Honda to change the hose. It is obviously not a problem with just the hose it is a problem much more profound then that which needs to be fixed. I have done my research and if the power steering fluid is flammable and can cause toxic fumes. This in my opinion is not to be played around with and is dangerous. It has also cause my brand new tires go bald.

60 Power Steering Fluid problem of the 2003 Honda Accord

Failure Date: 11/16/2012

As per NHTSA recall 12v-222 this vehicle was taken to kings Honda in cincinnati, OH on Nov 6 2012 and repaired According to this recall. I took the vehicle into the closet shop and I was told that my high pressure power steering hose was leaking oil on the exhaust system and was dangerous to be driving because of a fire. After, I fixed my vehicle I noticed that there was a recall for the same issue on the 2003-07, v6 Honda Accords. According to the Honda service bulletin the recall was the same hose by just a part number apart. Because my Honda Accord in a 4 cylinder it was not shown as being eligible to be fixed by Honda. Failure Date: 06/01/2012

I purchased my Honda in al in 2006. In 2012, I received a recall notice on the power steering feed hose. Only 1 dealership where I live. I took my car to have them inspect and replace the existing power steering feed hose until the new hoses could be made. A young man to my info and I sat next to my car. This man said; "your power steering pump is shot and everything is going to need to be replaced over $600. 00. This man looked at another man and said;¿this woman is difficult. . The other man took the papers, opened my hood and did see the steering fluid leaking and said the part was not in and they did not have any replacement parts for the temporary fix but assured me I would be next in line. Never happened! I called corporate to issue a complaint. I told customer service to note in my records, "I will never go back to them because they lie. But know, when the part does come in, they will charge corporate. A few months later, I called corporate back their records show they did in fact charge for a repair to my automobile that never took place. I was told by corporate that there was no one that could do the repair but the dealership. I said; "I have someone who I know is honest and has worked on Honda automobiles for over 20 years. Would you just send me the new part and let him replace it? she said; "no! we will have an arbitrator work with you and the dealership. No way! I am demanding to receive a free power-steering feed hose repair kit. Of course with the year of driving I will now have to have the power steering pump replaced. .
