3 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/30/2021

Air conditioner: 2019 I purchased a 2016 Honda Civic touring with 25,000 miles, when we were given the carfax it did not state the ac had anything wrong with it or from any personel at Honda. Last thing on our minds being this car had low mileage and year was to check the ac. We didn't need the ac much until summer of 2020 we live in California (bay area) it was very hot, ac did not work was blowing hot air, before that we just thought the car wasn't heating enough and we did not keep it on to learn it would never cool off. We did take it in and were told we needed to pay for them to check it and see if it was covered under warranty. I then looked on line to find there was a lawsuit against Honda for the same thing. Then the California fires came, we drove the car with the windows down by force and it was hard with the heat and smoke, but had to do it to get to work and daily things, it was ugly we couldn't even take the kids with us. We also have a child that has a condition where the heat effects him too. Paying into a car with a defect that Honda is well aware of is not ok. It's 2021 car has about 36k miles now, it's summer and we're still suffering from the heat, hot leather seats and we are hoping no major fires.

4 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/25/2021

Air conditioning is blowing hot air. I think it might be a known issue for this year, make, and model.

5 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/05/2021

Air conditioner fails to cool and instead blows hot air. Honda authorized service technician has confirmed that a defective air conditioner compressor has caused freeon leakage from the compressor's main shaft throughout the system.

6 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/12/2021

Air conditioner in vehicle stopped cooling causing excess build up of moisture on interior windshield and side windows impairing visibility and safe operation of vehicle. Raining prevented the ability to roll windows down to clear windshield and windows. Had to manually wipe the interior of windows and windshield to see constantly until I made it back to my home.

7 Air Conditioner problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/08/2021

Air conditioner does not work. It only blows warm/hot air. The vehicle has 32,707 miles on it. Honda says it's out of warranty and will not cover the cost of repair. Honda is putting bad parts into cars and not fixing the problem. Thousands of vehicles have the same issue.

8 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/05/2021

I was on an errand trip from alhambra to santa ana. Air conditioner is working fine until I stopped to drop off documents in alhambra. The air conditioner stopped working when I return and startup my car. My vehicle was at 66700 miles. No accident history. Norm reeves Honda at west covina diagnosed both a/c compressor and condenser are leaking. Request goodwill repair from America Honda but was ultimately denied.

9 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/15/2021

2020 I haven't used the car much do to covid-19. Maybe 1000 miles. February 2021 I noticed the cold air conditioning doesn't work properly. Seems that the air only blows. I just discovered today that Honda seems to have issues with ac condensers. I sent an email to Honda to see if my VIN has the warranty for the condenser. I will inspect it and see if that's what is going on. Car has 40k miles. 2017 sedan ex 2. 0l need ac to defog windshield for visibility! and keep me cool so I can operate the vehicle safely! I'm not sure if it failed at some point in 2020. But I just noticed it now during some very hot days. Automatic breaking should have recall. When I drive and someone in front jumps across my lane to get into another lane, the car will slam the brakes after the car in front is already left the lane and it's inside another lane. That's a very delayed response and unnecessary because other cars behind me need to get on the brake hard to avoid hitting me. I try to floor it in situations like this but the system won't let me. The only thing this leaves me to do is disabled the system by holding down the button. But that removes the safety features. Sometimes someone in front of me brakes fast suddenly. I jump to another lane and the system applies the brakes once I already jumped into another lane with nobody in it. However if there is someone behind, then the person honks because the car just slammed on the brakes! I have video proof of this. It's an accident waiting to happen.

10 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/14/2020

The air conditioning no longer works on the drivers side only blows hot air;the passenger side blow cool air,Honda has known a/c issues with the corrosive 1234yf refrigerant that impacts the entire cooling system. Service bulletin 19-091 covers the condenser however does not cover the compressor, clutch or coil and those parts are a costly fix. The air conditioning compressor is a known issue with the 2016 Honda Civic. The compressors are known to leak and costed me $1687. 47 in a 4 years automobile with only 27062 miles for replacing the compressor. Honda has ignored the problem and they should recall or issue a service bulletin extending a warranty for those defective a/c parts.

11 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/20/2020

Air conditioning continues to not work right. Compressor replaced and now a year later system looses freon and blows warm air again. These cars should be recalled and have the ac units replaced at no charge to consumers.

12 Air Conditioner problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/30/2020

Vehicle has been on the road for about 4 months, only about 2500 miles and air conditioning started blowing hot. Upon research, the following years 2016-2018 Honda Civics have warranty on the condensers for improper manufacturing of condensers. Upon further inspection, air conditioning condenser has leaking spots.

13 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/04/2020

The air conditioning compressor is a known issue with the 2016 Honda. They are known to leak and cause the owner $2,500+ in the first 5 years, replacing the compressor.

14 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

The air conditioner stops blowing cold air at idle and occasionally even when driving. This may pose a safety issue in hotter climates if there are children, elderly people, special needs persons, or pets in the vehicle when parked. Reading through the world wide web or internet, thousands, if not tens of thousands of owners with this same issue due to a faulty ac condenser from the factory. Honda has extended the condenser warranty but has not issued a full recall or warranty on the other parts/labor involved. For example, expensive refrigerants, parts, and labor. The first condenser replaced in January 2020 and lost all refrigerant in October 2020. I took my Civic into the Honda dealership and got it tested for a/c leaks in September 2020. I was told it was not the condenser but another part next to the firewall, costing 440 dollars. I took it to another Honda dealership a few weeks later and was told that there was little to no refrigerant. I paid over 300 dollars to get the a/c checked and the test was done with a dye solution that can be seen by uv light. There was no indication of leaks during the diagnosis. The refrigerant should be tested further or Honda should replace all defective air conditioning parts all around. I know this issue will continue to occur because of underlying problems with Honda original manufactured a/c parts. Very respectfully, a worried parent.

15 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/22/2020

The air conditioning no longer works on the drivers side. The passenger side blow cool air, but the driver side only blows hot air like the a/c isn't on. This causes the windshield to steam while driving due to the temperature variance, along with creating an extremely uncomfortable driving experience that is hazardous in hot weather.

16 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

The air conditioning stopped working on our 2016 Honda Civic in early summer of 2020. We were told by the dealer that it was the compressor and would cost in excess of $2000. 00 to fix. We opted out of the repair at that time. I have since discovered that Honda has now extended the warranty for 10 years.

17 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/18/2020

I have a Honda Civic sedan 2016 ex-l. My vehicle has 36,943 miles on it. I took my car in for service 11/29/19. I asked them to check the air conditioning since it was not feeling as cool and there is a recall for the air conditioning condenser. I was told it was fine. Again I had my car serviced on 2/14/20 as I would be driving a distance. I left and while on the road the air conditioning went out on the drivers side. Because of covid I took the car in on 08/18/20. That is when I was charged a $150. 00 diagnosis fee. Adam came back 2 hours later and told me that it was my a/c compressor, clutch and coil. It would cost $1794. 97 to fix it. Only they didn't have the part and didn't know when they would. I called a local Honda mechanic to get his opinion. They told me they would check to see if the compressor was on recall because they fix several of them. if it's not it should be. the Honda mechanic said that they could order the part that day. I bought this car because prior owners stated Honda was reliable. This car has been anything but reliable. The protective plate dropped down and got twisted while driving on the freeway. Had the car in at least 7-8 for the problems with the radio as it is the brain of car. Replaced the battery early on in my ownership. This car is a big disappointment. Every thing that has gone wrong with my car I had met someone at the dealership with the same problem. As well as reading many complaints online. Especially with the air conditioning in the 32,000- 36,000 mile range!.

18 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/11/2020

Air conditioning blowing warm air - not cooling when it is turned on.

19 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/07/2020

Air conditioning condenser was replaced under recall Jan. 2019. Ac stopped working by June, 2020. Condenser needed to be replaced again, but was on back-order. Over 5 weeks later, condenser was replaced in August 2020, but dealer reported compressor was leaking and needed to be replaced, for about $1,200. Honda refuses to cover more than 30% of that cost, according to both a regional representative and a Honda of America representative. The compressor is on back-order, indicating that a high number of compressors are failing. All the above work and diagnosis were performed by Honda dealer the automaster, shelburne, vt. The car has under 33,000 miles and is less than 4 years old. I'm the original owner. There appears to be a class action for this issue, initiated in California, case 2:19-cv-10537, filed Dec. 2019, us district court for central district of California. Having no ac is a safety issue in at least two ways: it's dangerous to drive in a hot car, and a fogged windshield obstructing driver's vision can't be cleared without ac. Honda should cover the full cost of correcting these safety issues.

20 Air Conditioner problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/22/2020

The air conditioning unit does not workin my 2018 Honda Civic has a leaky condenser. Honda said that this is a known issue for 2018 Honda Civics and a 10 year extended warranty was offered (TSB 19-091); however, it does not cover the VIN series of my 2018 Honda Civic. I wanted to log this issue for others that are having the same issue as it makes the car pretty much inoperable on hot days and Honda's response is nonsensical given that other 2018 Honda Civics are covered for the exact same problem. There is no guarantee that if an extended warranty is issued after I pay for the repair that I will be reimbursed.

21 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/20/2020

Air conditioning system is not blown cold air.

22 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/14/2020

Air conditioning compressor failure was diagnosed by Honda dealer. Took car to my auto shop and the auto shop cannot order part from the Honda. He also mentioned there are quite few failure of ac compressor on this model. Is there a problem with compressor and if Honda have a recall?.

23 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/11/2020

6 weeks ago the air conditioner/windshield defogger stopped working in my 2017 Honda Civic that I purchased new with a 7 year/120000 mile warranty. I took it to the dealership who diagnosed condenser failure but claims they are unable to obtain parts to perform repair. Every time I call I get the same "in a few days" excuse.

24 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/06/2020

The air conditioner stops blowing cold air at idle and occasionally even when driving. This may pose a safety issue in hotter climates if there are children, elderly people, special needs persons, or pets in the vehicle when parked. Reading through the internet, there are hundreds if not thousands of owners with this same issue due to a faulty ac condenser from the factory. Honda has extended the warranty on the condenser alone but has not issued a full recall or warranty on the other parts/labor involved. This car has only 53k miles on it and this is the second time being serviced for this same problem.

25 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/26/2020

Car is only a little over 3 years old and the air conditioning is blowing hot air! the mileage on the car is only 22832. Took it to the dealer & they said the condenser is damaged & the compressor is leaking due to "road damage". Called Honda corporate for this since it is a known issue with their Honda Civics 2015-2019 about a faulty compressor getting holes punctured in causing the freon to leak out and they also denied the payment claiming a rock hit my car and caused the condenser to get damaged. Clearly Honda needs to own up to this faulty compressor and recall the cars or just pay for the ac to be fixed instead of charging customers $2300 to fix a problem that can occur again! there are even lawsuits against Honda for this issue!.

26 Air Conditioner problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/25/2020

Air conditioner has stopped working. Blowing out muggy or hot air instead of cold air. This happens when being stationary and driving on roadways. This is a safety issue to driver and passengers. It was also know problem to Honda and they did nothing to tell potential buyers about the known issue. There is also a class action suit. According to the class action it involves 2016-2018 Honda Civics. The only action Honda took was extend the warranty to 10 years and unlimited mileage. They never notified me of this warranty. I called the dealer and they need to do a diagnostic test before even looking at the air conditioner. First why should there be a diagnostic test done. Nothing in the service bulletin (TSB) 19-091 concerning a/c condensers that came from the factory defective in 2016-2018 Honda Civics never mentions a diagnostic be completed first. Why should I have to pay for anything since Honda knew about this issue! there should be a recall, and repair issued to dealers at no extra cost to the customer. . I have only had my car for 2 years.

27 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/23/2020

2016 Honda Civic. Problem with air conditioning blowing hot air both when vehicle is in motion and stationary. I took to the car to the dealership and was told both condenser and compressor had leaks. Condenser is covered under extended warranty but the compressor was not costing in excess of $1100 to repair. Was informed by dealership they are receiving 3-4 vehicles per week with this issue. It is clearly a defect in the manufacture of the vehicle.

28 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/22/2020

The air condition is not properly working. Even if you put on high it takes 30-35 minutes to cool the car. . . . And it is not that cold.

29 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/22/2020

I took my 2016 Honda Civic to the dealer after the air conditioning stopped working in June of 2020 to have it inspected for a leaking a/c condenser, which was covered under an extended warranty per a letter I received in November of 2019. The dealer inspected the vehicle and found the condenser is leaking and would be covered, but also stated the compressor is leaking and the repair would cost $1583. 00. When I asked if a leaking condenser could cause damage to the compressor they said they weren't sure. I then asked if they were seeing a number of condenser and compressor failures at the same time and they said yes. There have been a number of customers with simultaneous leaks in their condensers and compressors. I believe these need to be investigated and Honda should extend the warranty on both.

30 Air Conditioner problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/19/2020

Air conditioning stopped working. It is a very highly reported issue with 2016-2018 Honda Civics and the condenser defect.

31 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/09/2020

Air conditioner in 2016 Civic failed in November of 2019. Honda covered the condenser but charge full rack to replace a connecting hose, $450. Now June of 2020 same issue where a/c is blowing hot air. Honda dealer tells me that the condenser and compressor need to replaced. Condenser is under extended warranty. Compressor was replaced at a cost of $1600. These parts are all faulty need to be covered. Car was purchased in 2018 as a cpo from Honda dealer. Car has under 63k miles.

32 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

Air conditioning - no longer blows cold air - there is no recall yet there are a lot of online complaints that the air conditioning in this year Hondas quit working after 36,000 mile mark.

33 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

The air conditioning went out in my car around 40k miles. From speaking with others I hear this is a common problem and its the ac compressor. I know 3 others with the same car and all 3 of theirs has went out by 50k miles. This is a very common problem because I have checked online and saw many more complaints. Please do something about this because it is a very expensive fix and unacceptable for a brand new car!.

34 Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/20/2020

Air conditioner on driver's side not cooling/blowing warm air. Honda dealer performed diagnosis and found system slightly low, and found ac compressor is leaking. Cost to repair is $1900. 00. Our 2016 Honda Civic had 33k miles and is garage kept and well maintained. I searched the internet and found the compressor leaking is a common problem! this should not be happening on a car with 33k miles on it!!! I have been a Honda owner for over 20 years and expect Honda to issue a recall or extend the warranty on the compressor/cooling system for this known defect. This system has not lived up to the reasonable expectation of reliability of Honda cars, and that an ac compressor should last more than just a few years with low mileage. This is well beyond what would be considered as normal wear and tear! I am disappointed and upset that Honda so far has not done the right thing in addressing a known defect and doing right by their customers for a very expensive repair in the middle of pandemic when many have been unemployed or financially impacted. Do the right thing Honda!! cover this repair under an extended warranty!!!.

35 Air Conditioner problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/14/2020

My vehicle's air conditioning stopped working. Went to Honda dealership and had to pay $206 to flush the ac and replace the freon with dye. Approximately 5 months later the a/c stopped working again. Went back to Honda dealership. The leak they state is due to the a/c compressor leaking. Honda provided an extended warranty on the condenser because they are having problems with defective condensers. The dealership stated they will not cover because it is the compressor, not the condenser. It appears Honda has been having issues with all components of the a/c of these cars. They won't cover this as I only have 46k miles on vehicle and want to charge $2,049. 00 to replace. In my opinion, the a/c system is defective and all parts should be covered.
