1 Appliance Air Conditioner problem of the 2020 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/28/2025

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 40mph, the contact noticed the air conditioner was blowing out hot air, and she also noticed passenger side air conditioner had steam coming out of it. No warning lights illuminated. An independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic they add freon to the air conditioner and they informed her there was no leak. After the repair the vehicle was working as intended for a month, then the failure persisted a second time. The vehicle was then to the dealer where it diagnosed that the air conditioner condenser failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired twice and currently in process on a third repair. The contact related the failure to technical service bulletin 19-091(warranty extension: 2016-21 Civic a/c condenser); however, the VIN was not included in the bulletin. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and they informed her they will take note of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.

3 Appliance Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/29/2022

In late winter of 2022, the car’s a/c system failed for the fourth time. The car a/c system stopped functioning; it was no longer blowing cool air into the car. The diagnosis was that the a/c compressor was leaking. The a/c compressor was replaced and we were charged $2027. We paid the bill and asked Honda to reimburse us for the amount because after 4 failures in 3 years it was obvious that the Civic a/c system design was flawed. Honda refused to pay for the compressor replacement.

4 Appliance Air Conditioner problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/21/2021

Our car’s a/c system failed for the third time. It was no longer blowing cool air into the car interior. The diagnosis was, the a/c o-ring was leaking. The o-ring was replaced. We were charged for the o-ring replacement $541. After paying the bill Honda reimbursed us for the amount.

The local dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was unknown. The contact was concerned about driving a vehicle without air conditioning in a hot climate state.

Failure Date: 07/27/2020

The a/c was not functioning. It failed for the second time. It was not blowing cold air. The a/c condenser failed. The condenser was replaced under the Honda warranty.
