37 Carrier/rack problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

I was on hwy 18 just before lake arrowhead, CA when I lost the power steering and almost went off the cliff. Upon inspection, I found that the belt tensioner bracket's pivot bolt had sheered off the engine block causing the belt tensioner to come loose. This, in turn caused loss of power steering. There was a TSB (09-007) issued by Honda for a limited number of VIN numbers. This TSB called for replacement of the pivot bolt and the drive belt. The TSB expired on January 30, 2012, however, it appears that this is an ongoing issue and Honda should recall all affected vehicles to correct the defect. I also contacted a small local Honda dealer and inquired about the number of this pivot bolts they have sold in the last 6 months. This dealership alone sold over ten bolts. It appears that this is a wide spread issue that needs immediate attention before injuries occur or worse, lives are lost.

39 Carrier/rack problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/21/2014

Plastic part of car key housing fell from the metal part of the key and engine shut off. At home, after the key housing fell to the car floor, I examined it. The plastic key housing had fine cracks where metal part of key was supposed be secured with a tiny screw that was still in the metal key. The fine cracks was enough to allow the housing to open and slip off the metal key. Apparently, the metal end of the key isn't long enough to be a lever when turning on the ignition. The plastic housing of the key twisted when turning on the ignition and resulted in the cracks at the base of the key. Without the programmed chip attached to the metal key, the ignition shuts off.

40 Carrier/rack problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

My 2010 Civic has 40,000 miles now. I have had to replace the windshield due to the factory seal leaking and causing water to come into my car. Hendrick Honda in bradenton, FL advised it was due to "luck of the draw. . . Very bad luck" and "I've never seen this happen before. " however, it was not covered by warranty. In the state of FL your car insurance will pay to replace your windshield only if there is a crack in the windshield so that was $300+ out of pocket. My drivers side sun visor has split in two causing it to dangle in front of my face. . . Again not covered by warranty. The dealer quoted $100 per visor for replacement.

41 Carrier/rack problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/31/2014

Sun visor cracks because of hot weather. The similar incident happened before for Honda Civic model from 2006 to 2009. I believe Honda still used some defective sun visors on some Honda Civic vehicles.

42 Carrier/rack problem of the 2014 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/30/2014

I, cay c. Kennedy, attest that the event described below is the truth of what happened in the accident on 03/30/2014. Side airbags did not deployed. On Sunday March 30, 2014 I hit very by another car that ran the red light. The galant was going at a speed of 55 mph when it hit me, the force was great that the cars then smacked together and sprang out again. I notice that the air bags did not deploy; side or even front. I called my parents. The florida highway patrol arrived. Five minutes later my parents arrived. The jso and fhp then ignored me for 20 minutes, while they talked with the other driver. Damage was front driver side wheel was bent slightly in-ward at an angle, axle rod and strut shot, wheel well had DE-welded from the main body. Crumpled around the driver side wheel, driver side doors where not dented but a slight warp was in the doors so they did not complete top closure. Rear driver side lamp and bumper cracked/detached. In the interior, the center console where the gear shift was had popped the plastic. My vehicle was taken to pearl collision center, who estimated that they could fix the damage. When I questioned this, the representative stated that the car was not totaled due to damage was deemed 30% of the actual cost of the vehicle value. I questioned why the air bags did not deploy and if they would be checked. I was hit pretty hard and why have air bags for safety if they don't work. I also questioned the transmission and engine. State farm would not answer my questions or would America Honda about thoroughly checking the air bags.

43 Carrier/rack problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

Rain beginning 2/1/14 for 4 days (1 day 3 inches of rain) rain ran into car on left driver's side floor board soaking carpet & mats. Went to several repair shops but they did not handle water leaks, went to wolfchase Honda where I purchased car sept 2005 supposedly new vehicle on wed 2/5/14. After 2 days said it was front windshield & it needed to be resealed . I purchased new windshield 2/17/14 after current one cracked when trying to reseal after removing at auto windshield CO. Rain still ran into car after freezing ice, rain, sleet & snow several days & nights 2/22/14 to 2/25/14. Took car back to wolfchase Honda but service mgr. Abdul jones does not want to do anything since car out of warranty, 9 yrs old. Jones stated NHTSA don't mean nothing, don't care about numerous complaints for same problem. Water leaking in trunk since Nov. 2010 (also numerous complaints). I have spoken to jones 4 times but he does not want to do anything. Not able to reach gen. Mgr. Of dealer. Please investigate, do recall. Car not designed or made correctly. Hole in roof (not welded to body right) where rain runs directly into car (source found by auto glass shop not dealer). I spent money on windshield but it was not the issue as told to me by dealer. Defective vehicle.

44 Carrier/rack problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

The sun visor on driver side cracked and will not stay in the up position. It is a known defect by Honda for 2006 to 2008 Honda Civics. There is a class action lawsuit against Honda. The warranty was extended to 7 years or 100,000 miles. I am at 102,934 miles. I feel this is a safety hazard. It is a known defect and Honda has not issued a recall. I would expect that this would be fixed free of charge.

45 Carrier/rack problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Honda released a notice acknowledging cracks or "crow's feet" that develop on the paint of older model Honda Civic's ('06-'11). I recently began seeing these paint defects on the hood and roof of my 2012 Honda Civic coupe ex that is black in color (crystal black pearl). I was told that this cracking was a problem with the earlier, canadian-built, blue, black, and grey Civic's, but because the 2012's+ are not included in the statement, it will not be covered. Being my vehicle only has around 20,000 miles, it genuinely worries me how well the paint will hold up over time. The Honda factory warranty, as well as the extended warranty I purchased, will also not cover this defect. From my research, these cracks are caused by an improper painting process at the factory and will grow worse over time. I ask that Honda look into this and expand the recall to include certain 2012+ Honda Civic models.

46 Carrier/rack problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

While driving the passenger side sun suddenly flipped/fell down and was just swinging. It seems that the inside of the visor somehow melted/cracked, and the visor became disconnected and loose while driving. I am thankful it was not the driver side visor, as it would have likely hit me in the face/obscured my vision and potentially resulted in an accident. There have been several recalls for Honda sun visors; however when I took my car into the Honda dealership where I purchased the car brand new, they told my my year/model was not a part of the recall.

47 Carrier/rack problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

While in heavy traffic on the highway during a traffic jam which was caused by an accident, the car broke down with no warning. There was a check engine light and nearly immediately the car stopped working entirely, so stranded for 3 hours on the highway waiting for a tow truck. Car towed to mechanic and was informed that the engine overheated - all the plastic pieces I. E. Dipstick were melted, along with parts of the radiator - the filler cap was clearly melted. There was no indication there was any overheating occurring during the problem - again, a check engine light and then the car immediately stopped running on the highway. Later it was discovered there was a recall/TSB for this model Honda for the engine block cracking and overheating. There was no indication of overheating at any time and the vehicle did not allow even for nursing the car to the nearby exit. It is extremely fortunate the car was able to get to the side of the highway in heavy traffic - just barely, still in a precarious position. After the dealership "fixed" the engine, provided horrible customer service, and refused to fix anything the melted engine destroyed (radiator) the car has been in the shop (dealerships and otherwise) multiple times for other items "not covered" with the melted engine TSB so I will be reporting anticipated break-downs in horrible traffic with no warning here as needed.

48 Carrier/rack problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/19/2013

While driving through heavy rainfall, all interior lighting went out, media player crackled and stopped playing. A few minutes after pulling over, the car returned to normal. There were no lightening conditions observed at the time of the event.

49 Carrier/rack problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/20/2012

Driving at 40 mph no road hazard less than 19,000 miles on the car, the tire went flat with a side wall crack! the dealership decided it was road hazard, but I know different! the second tire cracked while driving 35 miles per hours. Firestone tires don't seem to be safe. I will not recommend or purchase tires from firestone or purchase another car with firestone tires on it!.

50 Carrier/rack problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

51 Carrier/rack problem of the 2002 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/19/2011

This car was purchased by me brand new in September 2002 and has been maintained following manufacturers recommended schedule at Honda and at 134,000+ miles, the transmission is shot due to a bad torque converter. I want this corrected by Honda especially because I was victim to a hit and run at a red light and fixed the car out of pocket for over 5,000 and would have like to know by Honda that there was an issue with this car so I could have bought a new car rather than fix it. It is so dangerous for me as an only parent to have my transmission fail while making a left turn with oncoming traffic or while driving over train tracks!!!! this is scary to me and I want resolution for their failure to admit the torque converter lemon in my car caused the failure!!!!.

52 Carrier/rack problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/03/2011

I was at a red light waiting for the green light to turn to the left. When the green light appeared, I accelerated at a speed of 15 when out of no where I heard a boom sound coming from the engine. This seem very abnormal to me since I had barely purchase my car 4 months ago. I took my car to the Honda dealer to see what was going on with my car. After waiting a few hours, the mechanic told me there were many things wrong with the car. The boom sound was made by the breakage of the wishbone that holds the lower engine and besides that it needed 2 tires, alignment, cabinfilter, brake flush, p/s rack. I honestly don't think it is fair to me that I bought a 2009 car for it to have this many problems. When I bought my car the man from auto plaza told me that I wouldn't be having any problems with my car for a long time and then I find out all of this parts wrong with my car. After this incident, I went to talk to the man from auto plaza and he told me that when they had purchase the car they didn't inspect it before putting it on sale. This action seems to me very irresponsible to not have inspected the car before putting it on sale. I honestly didn't know what else to do and this is why I'm writing a complaint here. Please help me with my situation.

53 Carrier/rack problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/24/2011

In 2011, my driver side visor cracked/split and was hanging halfway, affecting my view. I took it to the Honda dealership, and they replaced at no charge October 24 2011. Not even a week ago, the same thing happened to the new driver side visor. I called Honda, took it to them today (08/15/2013). They wanted to charge me 95 dollars!!!! really?!!! there is obviously something wrong with these visors. I have done my research and plenty of people are complaining about the same thing. I called the Honda corporate office and they said there was nothing that they could do. The visor I got replace only had a 12,000 mile or one year warranty. That is ridiculous. These visors are obviously made with cheap plastic that is not made to last. So I have to spend almost 100 dollars every year and a half in order to be able to see while I am driving? there needs to be a recall and they should replace all visors at their cost. Maybe it might force them to provide visors that are safe and will last. I am going to look online also to see if there are any petitions. Please make Honda have a recall on these visors so we can all see while driving without having to spend an extra 100 dollars every year or two. It is not the consumers fault.

54 Carrier/rack problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/04/2011

I was driving my 2008 Honda Civic when my visor swung down and partially blocked my vision. Upon looking at the visor, I noticed the back had cracked open and the visor would no longer close. Eventually I just removed the visor so I would not have to deal with it any longer.

55 Carrier/rack problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/24/2010

Sunvisor on drives side cracked at seam and unable to return to the up position. Ubstucting view. Had to remove visor to continue driving. The passenger side had same problem, two months later. Dealer replaced no cost to me; however, stated it this occured again I would be responsible for repair. Both time dealer had part in stock, I found that a sun visor would be in stock.

56 Carrier/rack problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/09/2010

I am a resident of charleston SC and it gets fairly hot here with summer month temperatures. I have a 2007 Honda Civic and the sun visors ( both of them) have melted , cracked and broken from my car getting warmer inside while sitting. The visors hang in the line of view for myself and passengers of my vehicle. I feel that this car is fairly new,and a safety issue like this should not be happening this is pretty common occurrence after researching this.

57 Carrier/rack problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/10/2010

Both sunvisors cracked from the normal southeastern heat after I had had the car about two years.

58 Carrier/rack problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

Drivers side door seal cracked and split. Car has 50,000 miles. The passenger door is doing the same. Had to replace at my cost, dealer said normal wear and tear.

59 Carrier/rack problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/15/2007

Bought a 2006 Honda Civic brand new. About a year and a half later, started noticing a small area on the top of the trunk where the paint was coming off. It gradually spread where paint was coming off from the roof , to the front hood to the side panels of both the driver and passenger doors down to the fenders. The car looks terrible, big splotches all over the car where paint has come off. It makes the car look really old. We had taken the car to the Honda dealership and was told that Honda doesn't have anything where they can re-paint any vehicle with this issue. Just happened to be reading a magazine called shopsmart which is put out by consumer reports and there was an article "fix your car-free". It mentioned that 2006-2011 Honda Civics having issues with cracking and/or chalking on the hood, roof, trunk or front fenders for certain colors. The fix was that the dealer will repaint the affected areas at no charge. In the article, it gave different websites to check out other complaints, find out about any recalls. Now I find out that there are many other owners having the same type of problem we are having with the paint coming off all over the car. Honda hasn't done anything to fix this problem nor do they want to take responsibility for this defect and simply re-paint the troubled areas. So, right now we're stuck with a crappy looking car.
