36 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/26/2025

Steering began to "stick", especially at highway speeds and when trying to keep car centered in lane, causing frequent overcorrection and difficulty maintaining lane control. No warning lights, messages, etc. Dealership confirmed and the diagnosis was that the motor powering electric power steering was faulty and steering rack needed to be replaced. First noticed the issue during summer of 2024, became progressively worse, dealership diagnosed and repaired in may 2025.

39 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/10/2025

I drove home from work today like normal. Pushed the engine start/stop button before getting out of the car. The radio was still on, and the dash was still on, with accessory mode, push "start/stop" twice to turn off, or something similar to that. I pushed the button twice. It went to accessory mode. I started the engine, drove the car out of the drive way, came back, pushed the button to turn off the car. . . Accessory mode. Turned the car on, turned the car off. . . . Accessory mode. Moved the keys all away from the car. Started the car (which I could do because it was still in accessory mode) and drove the car, meanwhile there was a big warning saying there was no key fob in the proximity. Parked the car, pushed the on/off button. . . . Accessory mode. I have tried everything I can think of, the car wont lock. It wont exit accessory mode unless its in full on start. Someone could come along and steal my car because I cant turn it off. All I can do is disconnect the battery and after 2-3 days I connect it and it works just temporarily. This is not ok and unsafe especially when I have a new born and stranded in the middle of the wors place due to this issue.

40 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/07/2025

Our battery died in April 2025. We've had this car since October 2021 with only 8 miles on it. We've replaced: the pcv valve the pcv valve tube the maf sensor the sparks plugs 3 times which was $90 each time replaced our battery 2 times since April 2025 3 oil changes and finally replacing our entire fuel injector system with the hard fuel line. And replacing the battery the first time is what revealed all these issues because we kept getting codes on our obd-ii scanner of p0172, u0038 and u0100. Honda told us once the fuel injectors were replaced then our car would be fixed but that is not the case. The car can't travel further then 5 minutes before the spark plus burn. We replaced the spark plugs on Sunday morning and we went to the store and they were charred after that drive same day.

41 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/05/2025

Fuel door is making a noise when I unlock my vehicle and sometimes fuel door doesn’t unlock.

42 Electrical System problem of the 2025 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/20/2025

On [xxx], at about 3,500 miles, the subwoofer speakers in my 2025 Honda Civic hybrid sport touring began rattling persistently at moderate volume (14-15), disrupting the entire audio system. The component malfunctioned, no ‘failure’ in the traditional sense, but it renders the sound distorted and unusable, far from the advertised premium sound quality on Honda’s website. It’s still in the vehicle, available for inspection if requested. This doesn’t directly risk physical safety, no crash or injury, but it severely impairs the driving experience, as the audio system is a key feature I rely on, now reduced to a constant, irritating rattle. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed on all the other vehicles of the same model and trim at the dealership where I bought it, Honda mall of georgia in buford, GA. I took it in for repairs twice, first on March 25, then again on April 2, and it spent 7 days in the shop total. Both times, the rattling persisted unchanged. The service team acknowledged it’s a model-wide defect affecting other Civics of this trim, yet no effective fix was applied. The manufacturer’s regional representative inspected it indirectly through the dealership and declared the rattling ‘normal,’ refusing further action. The service manager promised an engineer would investigate, but that never happened. There were no warning lamps or messages prior, just the sudden onset of the subwoofer speakers on the rear deck rattling on [xxx] with no earlier symptoms. It’s been consistent since, worsening the audio with every use. The dealership’s confirmation of a widespread issue, paired with the manufacturer’s dismissal, points to a design and quality control flaw they won’t address. This isn’t a one-off; it’s a systemic problem ruining a core feature that’s been happening for a decade now with the top tier trims of Honda Civics. I request an investigation into Honda on why it hasn’t rectified this issue when Honda promotes “premium sound”. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/21/2025

Honda did a software update on my vehicle tied to the recall below. The dealership stated to me that they need to replace the vsa modulator and they are claiming this is not covered since they did the software update a few years ago. I believe they are directly corollated as I don't drive the car much only have 27k miles on the car. They are asking me to the pay for replacing the modulator vsa and are stating that this is not covered under the recall. It's hard for me to beleive how they are unrelated if the software is causing the unit to malfunction and we know the unit needs replacement there is a direct connection. This is costing me $2500. About a year ago, the transmission failed costing us nearly $5000 to fix it. This incident happened approximately April of 2022, no warning signs at all. Now, the airbag deployed while merging onto the freeway without any impact which was the scariest thing. I’m very concerned there are other issues. There were no warning signs on both incidents.

52 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/17/2024

The standard oem key fobs for Honda Civics, for several model years, and possibly for other Honda models, have a "feature" that seriously affects driver and passenger safety, and that cannot be disabled. If two buttons are depressed simultaneously on the key fob for a period of time, all of the windows go down and the doors unlock. I have encountered dozens and dozens, perhaps hundreds, of owner complaints about this "feature" on various internet bulletin boards. Typically, the stories go, "I parked downtown in an unsafe area and I came back to my car and found that it was unlocked with all of the windows open and someone stole everything from my car," or "I parked outside just before a rain storm and I returned to my car to find all of the windows open without my knowledge and the interior of my car was soaked. " single women could encounter this problem and be attacked by people hiding in the back seat. Apparently, if anything in one's pocket depresses the keys on the fob, without one's knowledge, this occurs. It has happened to me, where I'll bend down to tie my shoe and walk away and I'll return hours later to find all the windows open during a rain storm or in a bad part of town. I've asked american Honda numerous times for a way to disable this unwanted "feature" and they've said that they've not interested in addressing it unless they're forced to do so by the government. This is a serious safety issue, not only implicating potential crime, but a wet soaked car interior could affect electrical and navigation systems in a life-threatening way. If you respond, I can upload several internet pages with owner comments and complaints about this problem.

53 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/05/2024

The vehicle’s emergency braking system randomly applies the brakes even when the front is not obstructed. Front sensors are kept clear of any debris, dirt, or bugs. I went to Honda of el cajon in el cajon, CA and they could not help me even though the service advisor admitted that another Honda cr-v driver had the same problem the same day. This is a safety concern as my car has applied he brakes while on the freeway and at stop signs at random. Honda has failed to acknowledge the issue.

54 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

All light are coming in off and on in my car , keys will lock my car but when I walk away it unlocks and rolls all my windows down on its own. 56 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/07/2024

I purchased my 2024 Honda Civic sedan touring just over six months ago and have been dealing with an ongoing issue with the front driver-side window that remains unresolved despite multiple repair attempts. The first problem occurred when the car had only around 2,500 miles on it. The window began getting stuck while opening or closing, making it difficult or impossible to operate properly. I brought the car to the dealership, where they diagnosed the issue as a faulty window regulator. They replaced the part, assuring me that the problem was resolved. However, less than a week later, the same issue occurred again. This time, the front passenger-side window also malfunctioned on one occasion, displaying similar symptoms. I returned to the dealership, and the service team initially suggested swapping parts from a new Civic on the lot to troubleshoot the issue. Ultimately, they decided to replace the left front driver window switch instead, claiming the problem was caused by erroneous operation/"overuse. " this explanation seemed implausible, as the vehicle was only a few months old, had been driven minimally, and the windows were operated under normal conditions. Unfortunately, just days after this second repair, the driver-side window failed again, marking the third time this issue has occurred. The car now has approximately 2,950 miles on it, and I have not yet returned to the dealership, as I am frustrated by the repeated failures and the lack of a permanent solution. During previous visits, the service department mentioned that the foreman would need to inspect the vehicle, but this is concerning because the car has already spent 13 days at the dealership over the last 24 days for this recurring problem. The persistent failure of the driver-side window, coupled with the passenger-side window showing similar symptoms, raises concerns about a potential defect in the vehicle’s window system or its associated components.

57 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/02/2024

Dear Honda customer support team, I want to address an urgent safety concern with my 2023 Honda Civic, which has been affected by the recent recall (NHTSA recall number: 24v-744, mfr campaign sjs) issued on October 3, 2024, for 2022-2025 this recall addresses a defect in the steering gearbox worm wheel, which can swell during use, resulting in a reduced grease film thickness between the worm wheel and worm gear. Additionally, the worm gear spring preload was set too high, increasing friction and causing the steering to become resistant. This defect can create dangerous driving conditions, significantly raising the risk of a crash or injury. On multiple occasions, I have experienced instances where the steering has become unresponsive, effectively “locking up” while driving. These occurrences have been extremely distressing, impacting my confidence in the vehicle's safety and contributing to substantial mental distress. Additionally, I have noticed recurring issues with the electronic power steering (eps) system, such as electrical malfunctions that cause the car to stall unexpectedly, activate the automatic stop feature, and produce erratic sensor behavior. I have reported these concerns to my dedicated dealership, but unfortunately, the issues remain unresolved. On November 2, 2024, I brought my vehicle to white plains Honda at 61 bank street, white plains, new york 10606, after scheduling my appointment two weeks in advance. However, I was informed that the replacement part required to resolve the steering gearbox defect is on backorder with no confirmed availability date. Considering the safety risks associated with driving my vehicle in its current state, I am deeply concerned about the indefinite delay in repairs. Given the critical nature of these safety concerns, I am formally requesting an immediate replacement vehicle to ensure my safety and that of my passengers.

58 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/10/2024

1) caused by faulty body control module (bcm). 2) can't enter car, key fob won't unlock car. Dashboard is illuminated when car is off, I can see it through my window. 3) alarm horn went on when car is off. 4) turn on my car, multiple errors, go to drive the car thinking I need to reset it from battery change. Shut off my car, but go to turn it back on. Car cranks but won't turn on, shows multiple errors on dash. 5) dash shows "keyless start system problem" and car won't turn off. When pushing button to turn off car, head lights and a/c turn off but the engine still runs, push/start button flashes. Disconnected battery, still runs. Had to pull fuel or ecu fuse to stop the car running. 6) can't reliably get my car to start. Issue is intermittent.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/28/2024

I have a 2016 Civic lx, and the steering is sticking when on center when the vehicle has been driving for a while/is warmed up. I have read multiple instances and reports of this issue and the eps/rack being the culprit even when this car was released 10 years ago. There was never a bulletin or a recall for this model year but it is the same issue for the 2022-2025 model years, and it is frustrating that it is still occurring. It requires more pressure than needed to move the wheel and then it jerks as it comes loose causing need to over correction. This is very unsettling when traveling at highway speeds. I purchased the vehicle in late September of 2024, and I believe the vehicle was doing it then but I did not recognize the issue and it wasn't consistent, especially as temps were cold. The issue has gotten worse, especially as the warm weather is coming around.

60 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/23/2024

Reported crunching, clicking, grinding in front steering components. Steering wheel locks up when car is in motion. Failed components identified and reported to Honda manufacturing corportation. Waiting on a formal response.

61 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/20/2024

Car smells like rotten eggs and now wont start. Also, the brake light keeps flashing on the dash. It started flashing twice while driving and now it flashes when you try to start it.

62 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/19/2024

Car threw a p0035 code which indicates a problem with the turbo bypass valve solenoid high voltage/circuit. Car suddenly lost power and had many service lights go off. The check engine light, power steering, brakes, stability, and other lights went on. This prevents my car from going over 40 mph without feeling like the car is struggling to accelerate. The dealership couldn't reproduce or confirm the issue when I went in for service. The code will disappear and reappear after a few starts ups. I noticed that the 2017 type r has this recall but I'm noticing a lot of other owners having this issue as well.

63 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/07/2024

My 2016 Honda Civic has a recurring safety-critical defect that began approximately 2–3 weeks after purchase. While turning (most often left turns), the vehicle suddenly shuts off without warning. When this occurs, the power steering assist locks, brake assist is lost, and the electrical system cuts off and then reboots. This has happened more than 5–6 times and nearly caused collisions. I had to apply extreme brake pressure to avoid hitting another vehicle during one incident. The steering becomes rigid, the dashboard goes dark, and the car restarts on its own while still in motion. Before I purchased the vehicle, a diagnostic inspection was performed and no issues were reported. Since owning the car, it has also been taken to a mechanic multiple times, and no diagnostic code or mechanical explanation for this shutdown issue has ever been identified. The defect appears intermittently and leaves no trace or error codes, making it extremely difficult to detect or repair. This is a serious safety hazard that could cause injury or death. The problem appears to be a latent defect that was present at the time of vehicle sale. I am reporting this so NHTSA can investigate whether this is a known issue with this model or whether other consumers have experienced similar sudden shutdowns.

64 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/04/2024

Alarm sounded, went outside with fob to shut off . Still alarm on . Tried to get in car with fob . Had to use key in door to get in . Stepped on brake and pushed start/stop button . Alarm now silent. Push start/stop button to shut off engine and message on dash read keyless start system error. Engine still running. Pushed button again and ac shuts off , engine still running and dash still reading error. Put in driver, then reverse to park and pushed button again and engine shut off finally. Disconnect negative from battery and let sit overnight. Tried to start, but just kept cranking. Disconnect battery again, tried starting again and it started. This time it took me 10 minutes before I could shut off engine. Disconnect battery again and haven’t tried again. I’ve read about other people having the same issues. Most say start/stop switch. Mine is on order, will install ASAP and see what happens. Fingers crossed.

65 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/22/2024

The car cuts off while driving.

66 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/12/2024

The abs speed sensor on Honda vehicles are placed in such a way that is breaks often. And when it breaks, it leads to multiple sensors going off which may cause the abs to lock up while braking normally, car accelerating unexpectedly. For me the speed sensor on the right wheel was broken. This lead the car to accelerate unexpectedly and then the sensors would go off. Car accelerating and braking in a weird way would definitely lead to some issues. And when you go to the dealership for this issue, first they won't be able to diagnose it. They will simple reset the codes and say uts an intermittent failure and charge you 100 dollars for nothing. Then you have to go again the other day with the same issue and then they tell you its speed sensor. I think that's a bad service and since Honda knows of this beong common issue with how they have placed the sensor it should be recalled.

67 Electrical System problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/09/2024

Abs module failure. Abs cruce control stability control lights on dashboard.

68 Electrical System problem of the 2014 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/02/2024

Abs/vsa system module failing because of circuit board. Circuit board does not have all wires soldered onto system. Issue by manufacturer. This affects braking system, abs/vsa module, power steering and tpms sensors. Car is unsafe for driver and other vehicles on the road. Inspected by Honda and given code 123-11 for failing abs solenoid. Highly dangerous.

69 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/02/2024

I turn my car on to go to work realized I didn’t have my phone. Car was in park. I hadn’t touch the gearshift at all I get out of the car. Approximate 20 seconds after I walk away from the car, my home security camera shows the car creeping extremely slowly backwards up into my driveway going up across the crown of the road… across the street and falls into a 10 foot deep ditch. I am 100% certain that car was in park… there were no sounds when I open the door to alert me that it would be anything other than park. . The back up camera was not engaged, so it was definitely not in reverse… when the tow truck pulled it out of the ditch, it was still running it had stopped vertically before it hit the bottom of the ditch, and rear tire got stuck in muddy water…. There were no ruts from tire, spinning from the front end at all in the ditch or the grass above the ditch… there is a recall of some 2020 Civics for brake failure, parking brake failure…. I strongly believe my car needs to be part of this recall, because obviously something is wrong… my road is 55 mph and a car had to stop to avoid hitting my car… I have video from my home camera that shows a clear delay between when I get out of my car and shut the door and the car starts crawling. I tested it after he pulled it out of the ditch just to see if I had it in reverse from the same exact spot wouldn’t move and it immediately moved so I’m certain something is wrong… right now the body shop can’t even duplicated can’t even get it to get caught between park and reverse. Please investigate and this could’ve easily been a fatality. I need to send more photos and videos, but it won’t allow me to do it but there’s definitely more for me to send if someone can give me an email.

70 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/30/2024

My ac system in my 2018 Honda has now failed twice under 80000 miles. The first time the compressor and condenser were leaking and failed around 50000 miles which the dealership said was due to a new refrigerant that Honda had started using for this generation of Civics. Following this repair, Honda extended the warranty for these components of the ac system. Early in July 2024, I had the same issues with my ac blowing hot air only and making hissing and banging noises on the passenger side at around 75000 miles. Took this to the dealership and they again said that the compressor and condenser were leaking and had failed but also that the evaporator valve was leaking and failed due to the compressor and condenser issues. However, Honda has not extended their warranty for these parts and this would be an out of pocket cost. Honda needs to own up to their faulty ac system used in this generation of Honda Civics and extend the warranty to all involved parts or issue a recall and properly fix the system so it isn’t failing every 18 months.
