Nine problems related to gas recirculation valve (egr valve) have been reported for the 2017 Honda CR-V. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2017 Honda CR-V based on all problems reported for the 2017 CR-V.
Engine oil has a flashpoint of 215 degrees and 8. 5% fuel to oil ratio as measured by an independent laboratory, blackstone laboratories. Two tests have been performed and show dangerously low flashpoint levels and out of spec viscosity. The flashpoint is within the operating range of the engine. I am afraid of what could happen. Dealership will not fix the problem and they can only change the oil at the prescribed time indicated by the car. Flash point is extremely serious.
The heat in the car dose not work when it is cold out. Auto start does nothing to warm the vehicle. The vehicle needs to be driving continuously to have the temperature gauge move. Once the gauge is 1/2 way up and I turn on the heat, the gauge drops all the way down. No warm air comes out, also effecting the defroster. If I have ice or fog on my windows the defroster can't keep up severely impairing my vision, not to mention that all passengers in the car are freezing the entire time. This morning the temperature was 9 degrees fahrenheit with a real feel of -10 and during my 30 minute drive to work via a highway, all 4 door windows were fogged over and ice was forming on them and the rear and front windshield have fog and ice on about 50% of them. If not for the seat warmer and the blanket I wrapped myself in for my cummute I would have been frozen. This isn't the first time winter has happened nor the first car that Honda has created. No reason for the heat not to work.
I own a 2017 Honda Cr-v 1. 5 turbo fwd and my vehicle is suffering from the affects of oil dilution. I regularly have my oil changed by Honda, but I noticed, upon returning from a long trip in northern inidiana over winter, a strong odor of gasoline when checking my oil-dipstick and the volume was much higher than expected. When I brought my vehicle to Honda, I was advised that Honda was aware of a problem for all 2017-2018 Cr-v 1. 5 turbos with residual gas dripping into the cylinders and eventually the oil crank-case, called oil dilution. I asked the Honda technician to check for gasoline in my oil, but they said no such test was available. He advised me that no fix currently exists, aside from more frequent oil changes. I then followed up with the lead technician at my dealer to resolve the safety concern, but I was verbally told that Honda does not intend to address the issue unless litigation is mandated. I believe this problem posses a major safety concern as these vehicles age and the risk of engine seizure or explosion increase. Honda north America's position is that since there are so few 2017 Cr-vs with turbo on the road, they do not see a reason to act. There is a fundamental problem with this Honda turbo fuel injection system, which was fixed for the 2019 models. A software patch is being issued by Honda canada, but this is not offered in southern states and Honda refuses to comment on the long term impact and degraded performance. I am deeply concerned for the safety of my family and fellow drivers.
Engine oil dipstick shows oil level above full and smells of gas. Honda dealer claims no knowledge of a problem although it is well known in internet auto blogs. I had my oil tested at blackstone laboratories and the report states it contains 3. 3% of fuel and a fair amount of metal present, and a flashpoint of 305 degrees when it should be above 370. This is a new car with only 3534 miles on it. Oil diluted with gas could cause my engine to freeze up while driving due to lack of proper lubrication. This is a serious problem in a turbo engine and will end its life prematurely and possibly cause an accident.
Oil is contaminated with gasoline at a concentration of 4. 8% and flashpoint of 290 degrees. Smell of gasoline in engine oil. Engine oil has been changed twice according to vehicle specifications. Vehicle is not located in a state where Honda is providing fixes for the issue, eg reprogramming computer and hvac control unit.
Driving on freeway. Button to shift tranmission/gears disintegrated. Knew immediately that I would not be able to shift car into park, etc. Felt extremely dangerous since I was going 50+ mph when this happened. Based on level of complaints - see link - believe this should be addressed by recall. Also could easily cause a serious accident. . Read more...
Driving highway 15 east toward las vegas, nv. Light on instrument cluster "shutter grille problem - power reduced". Very dangerous condition as the engine power was reduced to 50 mph on the highway, I was unable to pass an 18 wheeler truck due to reduced engine power. Stopped at nearby Honda dealer, service dept. Was closed, new car manager said "I have no idea what this code means" after sitting for 15 minutes code reset itself only to come back on after another 10 minutes of driving. Temperature was 103 degrees outside. Went to Honda dealership in las vegas to be told again "have never seen this code before". No resolution - very dangerous condtion to loose 50% of engine power on the freeway.
I purchased a 2017 crv from ashland Honda and Toyota in ashland, WI in August 2017. On February 23, 2018, my car which has 5500 miles on it, started making a horrible noise and began losing power while on the highway. The noise continued throughout the weekend. We made an appointment with ashland Honda and Toyota to service the call. Honda corporate and the service manager (jerry) at ashland Honda and Toyota determined through video chats and conference calls that the cams were destroyed in my engine. They believe this had to do with fuel and oil mixing and getting into the engine. Honda requested that ashland Honda replace the head of the engine. They have no fix for the problem with the fuel and oil mixing and destroying the engine. The service manager said because the government is involved due to emissions, this issue will be continuing, and at this time there is no fix. He also stated that corporate informed him this was a regional issue due to our climate, and they are currently trying to figure out a software fix for the problem. No resolution at this point. Corporate further stated that they are seeing this issue when the temperature is between 10 and 30 degrees. I was offered a 100,000 extended warranty and recommended that I go to the dealer every 500 miles to get an oil change to see if fuel is mixing with the oil. Shocked at the lack of resolution, I asked the service manager if Honda corporate was comfortable giving me my car back after the cams were replaced with no resolution, and he said yes. I do not believe this is ethical at all for Honda to not have a fix to an engine problem that could endanger myself and/or my family. The car engine is being replaced when parts are delivered. Again, no resolution to the problem with the oil and gas combining and fixing issue.
Oil dilution. My vehicle has been inspected by my dealer and has been determined that gas is diluting the oil. This is happening about every 500 miles in warm 70+ degree weather, but happens sooner in colder weather. Because it's a pain to constantly replace the oil and filter, I have only been doing it every 500 miles. I do check the dipstick every so often to monitor the fluid level in the engine.
