I own a 2004 Honda Cr-v, a vehicle that has served me well over the years, but I recently faced a harrowing experience that left me quite shaken. While cruising along the highway, I was startled when the engine abruptly shut down. The ominous p1349 code indicated an issue with the variable timing control (vtc) actuator, a crucial component for maintaining optimal engine performance. Just two years ago, I replaced the vvt solenoid, investing time and resources to ensure my vehicle’s reliability. Yet, here I was again, grappling with the same frustrating problem that, in a split second, nearly caused a catastrophic accident with a speeding truck tailing closely behind me. With my heart pounding and adrenaline surging, I managed to steer my Cr-v into the emergency lane, narrowly avoiding disaster. In my quest for answers, I discovered that I’m not alone in this struggle; many other Honda Cr-v owners have reported similar incidents of sudden engine shutdowns while driving on the highway. This alarming trend raises serious safety concerns, highlighting the urgent need for a major recall to address the underlying issues with the software and the vvt solenoid assembly. I find myself pondering whether Honda made significant redesigns to the vvt system in models post-2006 to rectify the issues faced by earlier versions, all without triggering the need for a recall. It’s a troubling thought, but one that underscores the importance of safety in our vehicles as we navigate the roads.

Driving Honda crv 1. 5l around 40mph when car went into limp mode check engine started flashing and almost caused a crash from stalling traffic. Took it to Honda dealership and stated that it was a costly blown head gasket. Within further investigating it's common for these 1. 5l head gaskets to blow prematurely due to poor design that needs to be recalled.

Cylinder 2 and cylinder 3 misfire code, rough idling, loss of power specific problems: rough idling: the engine may feel shaky or unstable when the vehicle is stopped or idling, often due to incomplete combustion in one or more cylinders hesitation or lack of power: you may notice your Cr-v hesitating or losing power during acceleration, or a general reduction in performance, making it feel sluggish or difficult to drive stalling: the engine may stall unexpectedly, especially at low speeds or when stopped, as a result of misfires disrupting normal engine operation check engine light: the check engine light may come on or begin flashing, indicating that the vehicle’s onboard diagnostics have detected repeated misfires vibration or shaking: you might feel abnormal vibrations through the steering wheel, seat, or floor, especially while idling unusual noises: listen for popping, sputtering, or knocking sounds from the engine, which can indicate incomplete combustion or irregular firing poor acceleration or loss of power: you might notice reduced engine responsiveness, sluggish acceleration, or the inability to reach higher speeds easily erratic rpm needle: the tachometer may fluctuate unpredictably due to inconsistent engine speed and combustion smoke from the exhaust: excessively rich mixtures from leaking injectors can result in black smoke coming from the exhaust pipe difficulty starting or no start: the engine may struggle to start or fail to start if enough fuel isn’t being delivered to one or more cylinders.
Vtc rattles on startup. Please email me at braddbitson0301@gmail. Com so we can start another lawsuit against Honda. This is a known problem that everyone from Honda to your backyard mechanic are aware of. I used to love Honda. I even paid extra to get this specific Honda crv. Kind of feel like a fool now.

I am writing to formally express my deep disappointment and concern regarding the reliability of my 2023 Honda Cr-v sport hybrid, which I purchased with approximately 10,000 miles on it. The vehicle currently has around 85,000 miles and has already required major, unexpected repairs — most notably a head gasket failure, in addition to other mechanical issues earlier this year that totaled $2,000 out of pocket. The fact that a relatively new Honda with an excellent service history and primarily highway miles would require a head gasket replacement this early in its lifespan is extremely troubling and calls into question the long-term reliability of the Cr-v hybrid platform. While I appreciate that Honda agreed to cover the head gasket repair through a goodwill arrangement, this situation has caused me considerable stress, financial hardship, and a loss of confidence in the vehicle — and, frankly, in Honda’s reputation for durability. Further compounding this frustration, the vehicle has recently begun exhibiting renewed roughness and vibration at various speeds, despite recent service, and I remain worried that I’m going to be saddled with ongoing problems that I should never have had to deal with on a vehicle this new. As a loyal Honda customer, I expected better. I chose this vehicle specifically for its reputation, fuel efficiency, and dependability. What I’ve experienced instead feels like a breakdown of quality control and corporate accountability. I am now significantly upside down on a vehicle that I can no longer rely on with confidence — yet I cannot afford to walk away from it.

While driving at highway speeds (60-70 mph), vehicle showed blinking check engine light, indicating a misfire. Pressing the gas pedal did not provide power to the wheels, though the engine was still running and revved up. My safety and that of those around me was in danger due to my inability to continue to maintain speed. I had to coast while pulling over to the side of a freeway. I turned the car off and turned it on and the issue appeared to resolve itself with no light on the dash. Took the vehicle to an independent service center, who would not look at the vehicle since the error code would not show from a cleared code. Told me to hope it was a 1 time issue and to stop back by with the light blinking. However, this will not be possible since I get no acceleration when the issue persists. The issue has not been reproduced, nor do I intend to attempt to reproduce it due to the safety issues involved with losing the ability to accelerate while traveling at high speeds on the freeway.

When I accelerate up a hill at speed I lose power of the car. Once I pull over and turn the car off and wait a few minutes, the car starts up and drives fine. I have taken it in to be fixed and one time they changed spark plugs and a head gasket and then about 8 months later it did the same thing. I took it in to be checked out and they cannot find anything wrong with it. I have searched online and have found out there are other people having the same issue with this model (2021 crv hybrid). I've only owned the car for 4 years and love Honda's and have owned one most of my life so this is disappointing.
Engine overheating in short trips with full coolant and oil. My car is 4 years old and after years of mysteriously going into limp mode and no help from the dealer, I believe it has a bad head gasket. This started when the car was 3 years old.

Cvt complete transmission failure consistent with service bulletin 16-053 from Honda, dated September 9, 2016. I was not the owner of the car at this time, so a recall notice was never received by me. Currently, transmission is being fully replaced at 94,000 miles at a cost of $5700. It is a safety issue, due to the car not being able to drive over 30mph, nearly stalling at traffic lights and stop signs. A rear end collision would be imminent.

Coolant and oil draining like crazy. Absurd about if smoke (white/blue) coming out of exhaust. At times the screen for the radio with just decide to not work.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, several unknown warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing a/c system failures. The manufacturer was notified of the a/c system failure and related the failure to TSB number: 23-040. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the spark plugs were misfiring. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred the following day. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 5 mph while driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the #1, #2, and #3 fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
When vehicle starts it shakes for a few seconds then is fine. When I drive and give it gas my car stutters and feels like it wants to shut off. On the highway with acceleration the check engine light comes on blinking and the car loses power. The codes read misfire I replaced the sparks plugs and coils 4 time already just for it to do it again a couple months later. I read this is a common problem and unsafe Honda needs to do something.

On June 6, 2025 I brought my vehicle(2018 Honda crv ex ) to a Honda dealership due to the vehicle rough idiling. The mechanics said the third solenoid is failing due to coolant being mixed with the engine fluid. Quoted $7496. 00 “just to start”. Also stated the radiator would need to be replaced due to this issue and head gasket. Mind you I purchased this vehicle 12 months prior. I took it to a different repair shop for a second opinion but the other mechanic agreed with Honda dealership regarding repair needs.
I was traveling on the highway when suddenly my car started shuddering and slowing down. It was heavy traffic and difficult to navigate to the right shoulder, and my car was nearly hit by a semi-truck. The engine was misfiring and the engine light blinking yellow. I was able to turn off and restart my car and make it home. The mechanic initially thought the issue was old spark plugs and ignition coils. Replacing them didn’t help. I was again on a highway when the issue happened again. I brought the car to the dealership and they said the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. I spent over $2k to replace them on 7/7/25. The problem hasn’t happened since.

So my car has an air leak in the tire, I brought it to fix it twice and they end up damaging all my engine areas that caused an oil leak all over splashed and I have videos and photos will be attached.
My 2024 Honda Cr-v hybrid began experiencing a noticeable loss of engine power and severe shaking while idling. The problem first appeared when I was parked with the engine running, and the car suddenly started vibrating strongly. Shortly after, the “emissions system problem” warning message appeared on the dashboard. A local Honda dealer suspected a malfunction in the fuel injector system, which may have led to improper fuel combustion, reduced acceleration, and overall unstable engine behavior. This issue could increase the risk of an accident, particularly when merging or accelerating in traffic, due to delayed throttle response. Many other Cr-v hybrid owners have reported similar symptoms online, pointing to a potential widespread defect in the fuel delivery system. Despite this, there is currently no official recall for the fuel injectors in this model. I am concerned that this issue, if left unresolved, could lead to engine damage or even pose a fire risk due to unregulated or incomplete fuel combustion. Given the number of reports and the potential danger, I respectfully urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue and consider initiating a recall to protect driver safety.
All dash lights come on. Has cylinder misfire. Did some research it seems like is related to the fuel injectors. Honda dealer wants to charge me 4300 for changing fuel injectors.
Driving the car and it lasked power to drive. I could not accelerate. Check the codes code said it was a turbo issue called dealership. Got an appointment. Dealership says it's the turbo and it's twenty seven hundred dollars to repair.
Car went from regular driving to very rough running engine, multiple warning lights activated and limp mode activated. Drove 25mph to get home. Car was towed to dealership and after inspection, fuel injectors and spark plug # 3 had to be replaced. Many many crv owners seen to be having this problem and this could cause an accident should it happen on a freeway.
My 2021 Honda Cr-v hybrid has experienced three identical and dangerous incidents over a one month period beginning around 60,000 miles. Each time, while driving at highway speeds (60-70 mph) climbing hills or grades, the vehicle suddenly loses all acceleration power accompanied by a rapidly flashing check engine light. This creates an extremely hazardous situation as the vehicle cannot maintain highway speeds with fast-moving traffic approaching from behind, forcing emergency stops on busy highway shoulders where rear-end collisions become a serious risk. After each incident, turning off the vehicle and waiting 10+ minutes allows normal operation to resume, with the flashing check engine light disappearing. The malfunction involves the engine ignition system, specifically cylinder 4 misfiring as confirmed by diagnostic trouble code p0304 that I captured during the most recent incident. The suspected failing components include the ignition coil, spark plug, or fuel injector for cylinder 4. What makes this particularly dangerous is the complete unpredictability - no warning symptoms appear before each incident, and the failure occurs suddenly under specific conditions that are common in highway driving. Despite three documented occurrences, two separate Honda dealerships have been unable to reproduce the issue or confirm the problem. Both claim they find "no stored codes" even though I have evidence of the p0304 code. The codes appear to be cleared after turning the vehicle off and on. The intermittent nature and specific conditions required (sustained highway speeds while climbing grades) prevent typical shop diagnosis, yet this appears to be a widespread pattern affecting multiple 2021 Cr-v hybrids based on similar owner reports online. The recurring nature combined with the inability of dealers to address the root cause, creates an ongoing safety hazard. The vehicle remains available for inspection.
Life safety issue! four times since Feb. 2025 the check engine light comes on and the car loses power and goes into limp mode. The car has been to the Honda mall of georgia service department 3 times, and they are unable to determine the problem because no error codes are ever found. On 4-24-2025 they recommended a valve adjustment as a possible fix which I agreed to and paid for. The car did run better, however on 5-21-2025 the car stalled while I was going 70 mph on an interstate hwy. While I was in the middle lane. I was able to coast to the shoulder, shut the car off and then restart. Not knowing when or where the car will stall while driving is a major safety issue!.
Vehicle threw codes p0172 and p219e. Vehicle was sluggish and idled rough. All lights on the dash flashed and showed that most safety systems were disabled. Vehicle was taken to Honda service center and confirmed by the dealer. Dealer replaced the fuel injectors. Vehicle was less than a year out of warranty for this specific issue. This seems to be a common issue with this model of vehicle as the service center had the same model with the same issue that day.
Fuel pump recall completed at mcgrath Honda, st. Charles IL. , on Monday 2/3/2025. Never had any issues with car since purchase in 2019. Since fuel pump recall I have had an additional 3 visits. Car has a rumble and shaking when starting. Revisit on 4/1 shop found no problems all inspections checkout out. Once again car still rubles and shakes when starting. On [xxx] my 17 year old was driving, all emergency lights came on, gas pedal stopped working, (this is a vital safety concern for a gas pedal to stop working) and car overheated. Car required another shopping and upon inspection again no issues identified. On [xxx] again all warning lights activated, car rumbles/ shakes upon starting. Car returned to shop where faulty oring on fuel pump was identified and changed. All warning lights cleared and car returned. On [xxx] car rumbles when starting, all warning lights active and car speed is limited. Car will be shopped for 5th service in 3. 5 months since Honda fuel pump recall. No other major shop events in car since prior since 2018. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
All dash lights came on and it showed all safety systems had faults. Took it to the dealership and was told I needed injectors. I have looked into this issue and many Cr-v models have had warranty extensions for this exact issue. Lucky me mine is not one of the one's in the VIN group for this extension. So I am facing a $2,000 bill. The car is still driveable but its hard to feel safe with random dash lights coming on.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while attempting to use the remote start, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle had to be started manually, and once started, the parking brake, air bags, check engine, tpms, and the service vehicle warning lights were illuminated. The failure was intermittent; however, the warning lights occasionally illuminated while driving at various speeds or while idling. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Engine was overheating due to a defective head gasket. “the head gasket provides a seal that keeps that pressure contained within the engine’s cylinder. The head gasket also provides a seal for internal engine water and oil passages“ (Honda). I have found hundreds of others with similar defects for the Honda 2017-2018 1. 5l engines. I had no warning until the engine was too hot and the car alerted me to pull over to cool the engine. Car is regularly serviced by Honda dealership.
2023 crv purchased 04/20/2023 April 28, 2025, 51,109 miles. I was having misfires on start up but no warning lights. Then while driving down the highway the vehicle lost power and the dash lite up. I dropped it into s and put on my hazards. I was close to the dealership so I drove it directly there while on the phone with them. They said it was a bad spark plugs. Replaced the plug and reset the codes. Drove it for two more weeks. One morning upon start up every light on the dash was on and the sensor warnings were cycling. Called the dealership they said because the check engine light is solid and not blinking and I live close by to drive it in. Drove it in, dropped it off. Diagnosis: blown head gasket. Under warranty might get it back within 4 days. 23hr $6,000. 00 job.
Sudden loss of power. Unable to accelerate. Car towed to Honda dealer who confirmed blown turbo and likely internal engine damage. This was the first year the turbo 4 was installed in the Honda Cr-v and this problem has been reported previously. We were led to believe from consumer reports that Honda had extended the warranty on cars with this engine, but dealer said no.
Driving at approx 45mph local road and suddenly the all warning lights (brake, check engine, hill descent, etc) started flashing. The car started to slow down and I immediately pulled over and turned the car off. Drove to local Honda dealership and they stated it was faulty fuel injector. 2020 Honda crv @96k miles.
Oil leaking from valve cover causing low oil levels.
In April 2025 my crv had issues with acceleration. The speed reduced all of a sudden and car couldn't go more than 5 mph, so I took it to the repiar shop. The mechanic told me that cylinder #2 misfired. He replaced the spark plugs and the ignition coil. A few days later after driving for a few miles "stop driving when safe, engine temperature too hot" sign came up. I stopped driving immidiately and got the car towed to the repair shop. After testing the car the mechanic told me that the head gasket leaked and the coolant is mixing with the lubricant. He told me that there is damage to the engine so the engine need to be replaced. I was driving with kids in the car and I believe it compromised the safety of my family when the speed came down all of a sudden on the road and the car stopped accelerating.
Head gasket failure. 79,600 miles. Car consumes coolant. Coolant is entering the firing ring when car sits after being driven a distance of 5 miles or more and sits for about 8 hours, vehicle starts with a misfire and makes a small amount of white sweet smoke out of the exhaust pipes even in 85 degree weather. Car smooths itself out after 10-30 seconds. No obdii or Honda specific codes. Spark plugs, ignition coils, and spark plugs again since 75k. Over $2,000 into this car in repairs. Refilled coolant reservoir 3 times since April 8th (3 full jugs of peak asian blue from advanced auto parts). I want justice for this car and other Honda 1. 5t vehicle owners as many of them have this happen at the 80k mark and they’re being quoted $10k for an engine and $5k for a head gasket. There are several people with accords, civics, Cr-vs equipped with the 1. 5t engine that have coolant leaking into one cylinder. Oil looks fine and not milky. And besides the coolant being low, it looks fine (blue/aqua). Only when the car sits. Car was brought to rivera Honda in port jeff and they couldn’t find any issues. Car is consuming coolant. No leaks. It’s being burned when you start the car after it sits. Gushing liquid noise when car starts or with idle engine stop activated and car restarts. Design flaws on cylinder head has grooves that allow coolant to flow on top of the head to cool it. Failure point according to a Honda mechanic on youtube. Second flaw is poorly designed head bolts that are too thin and are brittle, not making a good seal as the vehicle ages. Parts are not expensive at all, but the man hours needed to replace this are the killer. 4. 5 years old with 80k, it’s Honda. It’s supposed to run forever. Not die under 100k. I would expect this problem after 250k or when the car is over 10 years old. My godmother had a 1998 accord that she had for over 20 years and it only needed a fuel pump as a major repair. A testament to Honda’s rock solid reliability. What happened?.
Fuel injectors have failed on this car 2x before it has hit 120k miles. First was at 50k ish. Honda will not acknowledge this as an issue, even though it is an extremely common issue with all of the 1. 5l engines on civics, accords and their other cars in this engine type. My mechanic has checked the service records and the most common issue with these cars, and this is a super common issue, always requiring fuel injectors to repair it. Car idles very very badly when started, and should not be having all of these issues on a well-maintained 8 year old car. It causes a check engine light to appear and an “emissions system issue” warning to appear on the car. It’s only been 3/4 years with the 2nd set of injectors (which were replaced under my optional extended warranty on the car, purchased through Honda). But I was not warned that this was a common issue until going to an independent service technician when my check engine light came on. I.
