1 Engine Failure problem of the 2014 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/15/2020

Vehicle grinds on cold startup, every single time. Vehicle also rattles on acceleration. Took it to mechanic and was told timing chain and vtc actuator needed to be replaced to the time of well over $2000. After research, I have seen that this is an ongoing issue with all 2014 Honda crvs but Honda has refused to take responsibility for this issue. This problem leads to engine failure and Honda is continuing to build these vehicles with defective parts. The technical service bulletin out does not take responsibility. I am asking that Honda establish a recall for the vtc actuator and timing chain to prevent resulting engine damage from these defective parts.

3 Engine Failure problem of the 2016 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/23/2020

I purchased Honda crv in September 2016, the engine fault code p0741 today, I have been to diamond Honda for repair today, I checked the warranty plan: powertrain limited warranty, your powertrain is covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. I am still under warranty. VIN: 5j6rm3h32gl028106 vehicle mileage: 20,000 description: engine failure. I have already left my car to 17525 gale Ave, city of industry, CA 91748. The engine is lighting up. Only drived 20000 mile, why lighting up? I request to waive all of repair the engine fee. Also I request to extend the engine warranty to 6 years. Please help ASAP.

4 Engine Failure problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/14/2020

The engine or something that controls the fuel to the engine causes fuel dilution of the engine oil. This was easily identified when I checked the oil level. The car was at home on a level concrete floor and the oil level was above the normal full level and the oil strongly smelled of gasoline. This results in decreased oil viscosity causing premature wear of engine parts and engine failure leading to increased maintenance costs.

5 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/03/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2017 Honda Cr-v. While the contact's friend was driving 75 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact's friend claimed that she smelled an odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was pulled over and turned off. When the contact's friend attempted to restart the vehicle, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was towed to port charlotte Honda (1252 tamiami trail, port charlotte, FL 33953, 941-564-3343) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed. The dealer informed the contact that they repaired the motor and changed the battery; however, the failure recurred three days later. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer and was informed that the battery was never changed and that they would replace the battery to repair the defect. The manufacturer was notified regarding the failures and complaint number: 09758024 was filed. The failure mileage was 24,600.

6 Engine Failure problem of the 2014 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/19/2019

Crv was rattling for about a week. Started only in the morning in the cold and progressively got worse. We were supposed to take the car in to the mechanic the next day but as my wife was driving on the highway the car completely shut off. We had it towed to the mechanic and he said it's engine failure and had no oil. We had no oil light come on and we get routine oil changes. Called Honda to see if there was a recall and they said no and offered no help. Now I'm stuck with a worthless 5 yr old car that I still owe money on. There are so many complaints about this why hasn't a recall been issued? why is nobody investigating this????.

7 Engine Failure problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/19/2019

Oil dilution in engine. Only 1,000 miles after oil change my oil smells like gas and is 1/4" above max level. Honda says no further fixes after the repair already completed. Told vehicle is at risk for stalling and total engine failure.

8 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/21/2018

Had the first oil changed at 5,658 miles in October, 2018. Mentioned the fuel in oil issue with 1. 5 liter turbo engines (per consumer reports) to service rep at annapolis Honda. He claimed to have never heard of it. Checked my oil today (12/21/18, 7,600 miles), oil level is elevated approx. 1/2 inch above the fill line from October with strong gasoline smell in the oil. Honda claims to have a fix for this but will only roll it out in northern tier states in the us. Problem is much more widespread and needs to be implemented nationally. Potential for premature engine failure and fire if not fixed.

9 Engine Failure problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/30/2018

The engine fails to reach full operating temperature. Gas is finding its way into the oil pan and producing an overfill condition. The cabin smells of gasoline. The electronics are unreilable and are often of line.

10 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

Gasoline smell in vehicle, gasoline overfilling engine oil. Gasoline smell in vehicle shortly after starting when cold. Vehicle is parked when the smell is noticed. I'm also worried that with the oil mixing with the oil that engine failure may happen.

11 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/05/2018

The oil level reading is above the full mark on the dipstick. The dealer has told me that it is normal for this engine to do this. They tell me they do not have a fix for it. Problem with this overfilling is that gasoline is deluting engine oil which may cause engine failure and lead to an accident.

12 Engine Failure problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/30/2018

We smell gasoline in the engine oil, which we discovered is a known problem with Cr-v 1. 5l turbo engines. The sales personnel did not own up to the known turbo problem when we asked about turbo engine reliability before we bought the vehicle. This defect ruins engine parts and could cause complete engine failure at high speeds, which may cause accidents with bodily injury.

13 Engine Failure problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/27/2018

The engine oil has a strong smell of gasoline. So far, there has been no loss or engine power or engine failure. The exhaust also had the smell of burning gasoline.

14 Engine Failure problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/27/2018

The engine oil smells strongly of gasoline and the exhaust smells of burned gasoline. So far, there has been no stalling of the engine nor engine failure. However, I'm aware of the recent similar issues with this engine problem regarding the 2017 and 2018 Honda Cr-v models.

15 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/08/2018

Experiencing rising oil levels due to high levels of gasoline being entrained in the oil. This is causing the oil to become increasingly thin and potentially cause an engine failure. The vehicle was stationary and on a flat surface during each of the oil checks.

16 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/06/2018

My 1. 5l turbo charged engine has a strong gasoline odor in the engine oil. So gasoline is mixing with my engine oil and may cause early engine failure or a safety issue. I noticed the gasoline smell when changing my engine oil and the car is parked.

17 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

Fuel smell, oil dilution, potential unexpected engine failure.

18 Engine Failure problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/19/2018

Purchased car new in January 2018. Noticed heat didn't get very warm, and would cool off at a traffic light, or on a downhill. Winter in delaware was not severe in January. Around 2200 miles, I checked my oil, found it about a half quart high, and smelled strongly of gasoline. Oil is also very dark, nearly black. 1/2 quart extra gasoline in oil sump of 3. 7 quarts, means about 12% of the oil was gasoline. This presents 2 major dangers: fire hazard from excess gasoline in oil, and engine failure, due to lack of proper lubrication. I've brought my car in to Honda twice, and 2400 & 4000 miles, both times, they contacted Honda techline, and provided an oil and filter change free of charge. I am minimizing my use of this vehicle, hoping Honda will port "the china solution" to the us soon. As Honda doesn't seem to be acknowledging the problem in the us or canada, it will likely be up to the regulators or lawyers to force them to take the problem seriously. Nhtsa - please step up, require a solution, before we start finding burning Hondas on the roadside.

19 Engine Failure problem of the 2014 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/28/2018

Variable timing control (vtc) actuator failed as described in Honda TSB 16-012. Informed by Honda dealer that failure would result in catastrophic engine failure if not repaired. Honda refused to cover repair.

20 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

I have fuel in my oil and there have been numerous other reports of the same. There is also a class action lawsuit involving the 2017-2018 Honda Cr-v and civic vehicles that are experiencing fuel contamination of the engine oil that could result the failure of engine bearing and other internal components. This may result in catastrophic engine failure or stalling while driving. Japan's Honda to recall 350,000 over this engine issue. Migliaccio & rathod llp is investigating potential claims of fuel dilution and buildup in the engine oil of 2017-2018 Honda Cr-v and civic vehicles with the 1. 5l turbo engine. Under normal circumstances, un-combusted gasoline accumulates in the lubricant oil pan and evaporates under heat from the engine, that then ends up back in the engine combustion chamber as fuel. In cold temperatures, however, the engine may not warm up enough to evaporate the un-combusted gasoline. Honda owners are reporting that this leads to gasoline diluting the engine oil which manifests in a strong smell of gasoline inside the cabin, in the short term, and gasoline in the oil that may lead to engine damage in the long term. Some drivers have reported that the car's check-engine light has switched on as result. Honda has already issued a recall in china for the same 2017-2018 Cr-v's and civics, but has yet to issue a recall here in the us.

21 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

2017 Honda crv with 1. 5 l turbo 4 cylinder engine. Health hazard: noted gasoline fumes in cabin after starting the car. The fumes are coming in through the ventilation system. Happening in both cold and hot weather. Car has 30k miles on it. Fumes noticed when car is stationary after starting it. Also found to have gas entering oil pan, diluting the oil, and causing high oil levels. Similar reports from many other owners of this vehicle with this engine and apparently a major recall in china for the problem. Am concerned about hydrocarbon levels in the passenger cabin which can be a major health hazard. Just because the fumes dissipate after a minute or so does not necessarily mean that the hydrocarbon levels in the cabin are normal for the rest of the ride. Other major concern is premature wear on the engine due to gas mixing with oil. Another concern is reports of crvs with this problem stalling at high speeds and failing to accelerate properly. Honda USA has not addressed the problem as of this date nor have they offered any solutions. I feel like I wasted over $30k on a vehicle that is now unsafe and destined to premature engine failure. I think there needs to be a recall to fix this problem.

22 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

The new generation of crv vehicles have a significant problem regarding oil dilution with fuel and other liquids. This is a serious problem and can result in premature engine failure as well as other problems. We shouldn't have to change our oil every 500 miles just to make sure it isn't too high. Honda is aware of this problem, yet they are slacking on finding a fix. This problem may potentially be affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles. China already halted sales of crvs until they fix this problem. Dear Honda, fix this problem! the longer you slack, the more customers (like me) you will lose in the future. If you value your reputation as a reliable car maker, then do your due diligence and get this problem fixed.

23 Engine Failure problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/16/2018

Vehicle purchased new in 8/17 and has 8900 miles. Touring trim with 1. 5l turbo engine and awd. Oil level has increased well above full mark after both of two oil changes done since purchased and smells strongly of fuel. Last oil change was done just 375 miles back. Dealer denies there is a problem with the vehicle, even though there are numerous reports and NHTSA complaints on record. I am concerned about possible engine failure due to inadequate lubrication / possible collision due to engine failure while driving. Will continue to followup with dealer service department and document actions taken in order to support any future legal action to remedy this serious defect.

24 Engine Failure problem of the 2014 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The failure was first noticed during an oil change and there was hardly any oil in the oil pan. The vehicle was taken to kelly Honda (540 lynnway, lynn, MA 01905, (781) 484-0160) and they stated that the vehicle normally consumed that amount of oil. The contact had to take the vehicle back to the dealer three more times for the same failure after noticing the oil levels were low. The dealer performed an oil change and asked the contact to return after 1,000 miles. When the contact returned, the dealer checked the oil level and informed the contact that the levels were fine. The contact was not convinced and the dealer informed her to drive another 1,000 miles and bring the vehicle back. When the contact returned, the dealer stated that there was engine failure. The vehicle warranty did not cover the repairs; however, the contact could pay the dealer $1,500 for the repair. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 23,500. The VIN was unknown.

25 Engine Failure problem of the 2015 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/04/2016

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Cr-v. While driving various speeds, the engine failed to warm up without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred several other times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again the second time where it was diagnosed that the thermostat needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. After the repair, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer the third time where it was kept for two days. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,900.

26 Engine Failure problem of the 2015 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/13/2015

Vibrations and rumbles when in drive while at stops with foot on brakes. It's getting worse. Initial visit at the Honda dealer, they could not duplicate. The second time at a dealer they said an engine update was needed and should stop it. Well it got worse, so I took it back and the vibration and rumble was duplicated but Honda doesn't have a fix. Rough idles at stops and low speeds can cause a strain on the engine and eventually engine failure. The vibration is so bad that it sends waves thru my foot when it's on the brakes and the vibration is felt through out my body. The front and back seats vibrates until my 9 year old thinks that we're getting a butt massage. This is really sad and an unfortunate loss of a loyal customers trust in Honda since 1990.

27 Engine Failure problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/06/2013

In line with the recent Mazda recall for yellow sac spiders found in the evac canisters, my Honda Cr-v had the same problem. Apparently, this is a problem that has affected Honda accords in the past because Honda has issued a service bulletin on installing a special filter for Honda accords to prevent the spiders from entering. However, no such bulletin or part exists for the Honda Cr-v. As such, after paying nearly $100 at the dealership for them to diagnose and remove the spiders, there is no guarantee that this can't happen again because they did not add a filter to prevent spider re-entry. At the minimum, these spiders with their resultant webs can severely limit gas mileage. At the worst, a fire or engine failure can result. I petition that Honda issue a recall for Honda Cr-v's and cover the labor and parts costs for placing a specialized filter to prevent spider re-entry.

28 Engine Failure problem of the 2012 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

The contact owns a 2012 Honda crv. The contact stated that the engine failed to start. The failure was experienced numerous times and was taken to the dealer numerous times. The dealer performed several diagnostics, which located failure codes with the ground wire, battery, lift gate power assembly, and the computer software. The dealer replaced the affected parts and updated the computer software but the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 165 and the approximate current mileage was 27,000.

29 Engine Failure problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/08/2010

Honda crv 2008 32,000 miles no history of accident or damage. While turning onto the highway engine failed and stopped vehicle. Vehicle towed to dealership. Major engine damage due to broken motor mount bolt. Dealership claims it was due to abuse of vehicle. There is no history of accident or damage done to the vehicle.
