2 Engine Noise problem of the 2011 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/06/2020

The vehicle has been running rough in the highway and rough when idling. We have chosen to keep it because we have trust in Honda's reliability. Five days ago, the car was running and the whole family was in it. All of a sudden, its engine sounded like 'junk' which never happened before. We were all nervous and confused and we were about 20 miles away from home. Our safety in the car was uncertain and the roads going home had varying speeds between 30 to 65 mi/hr. We know today that the engine has severe problem due to high oil consumption which is extremely disappointing.

4 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/22/2019

While in motion the Cr-v continues to bright light oncoming traffic, as well as the steering wheel pull towards oncoming traffic abruptly while the volume of the stereo goes constantly from loud to mute, and the door lock/ unlocks being continual. Vehicle has stalled out on different occasions. There is odor of gasoline while inside the vehicle, usage of fuel drastically increased, noticed our throats hurting/ voice hoarseness/ coughing/ passenger pass out until windows are cracked open (carbon monoxide?). Constant sputtering, no horsepower, can't stay with the flow of traffic on interstate, brakes do not want to work on different occasions, vehicle abruptly slams on the brakes at times saying road departure (clearly we are not departing the roadway). Doors to the back have not allowed the passengers in the back to open them, causing the children to panic in fear of being trapped in the vehicle. The remote start has only worked (2) times in a years time. There has been a buzzing/ humming motor sound coming from the rear axle area after the vehicle has been stationary for over (5) hours. Gasoline has now been noticed in the oil. The dash periodically goes completely black unable to see anything. The automatic lights (dimming/ bright lights) does not work, and has only worked (1) time. A couple of occasions it has smoked, like large clouds of smoke from the exhaust anytime the accelerator was pushed. Fearful of traveling in the Cr-v, we do not use after dark, the amount spent on fuel has more than doubled and we do drastically less driving in the Cr-v since the increasing fuel usage. At times it feels as if the vehicle is controlled by someone else, it's difficult correcting the steering when it is pulling towards oncoming traffic.

5 Engine Noise problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/04/2019

I have purchased Honda crv 2019 0n 02/18/2019. Initially the car performance was awesome. My first visit at first texas Honda on 10/04/2019, to fix tyre puncher. When primary technician reminded me about security recalls then I asked to fix all the 3 recalls (1. 2019 Cr-v fi-ecu self shutdown software product update, 2. 2019 Cr-v steering wheel controls & srs sub-wire satefy recall, 3. 2019 Cr-v incorrect owner's guide non-compliance recall) second visit at the same dealer on 10/17/2019 to explain all the issues I was facing after security recalls. The reported issues are high engine noise, sluggish acceleration, steering wheel tight and brake pedal feels very low while applying brake. Honda dealers did not accept the main issue while is high engine noise and sluggish acceleration. They simply deny saying no alerts showing on the dashboard. Raised support cases (given below) with american Honda and I feel I did not get right support because american Honda says we value our customers but they say our authorized dealer should check and confirm on the car issue. But dealers not agree to the issues, simply denying the issues. American Honda support case numbers: 1) 09952327 during oct 2019. 2) 10214175 during Feb 2020. 3) 202888213 during December 2020 but the issues were not resolved. As a third party review, I approached firestone, austin for inspection they did a test ride and confirmed with a report on the issues sluggish acceleration and steering hardness. But american Honda denied firestone inspection report as they believe only authorized dealer, who are not acknowledging the issues. If any person who drive new Honda Cr-v and try my car they agree in first attempt that engine noise is high and the car speed pick-up is very poor. I need help from NHTSA ASAP bcoz my new Cr-v which is still in warranty but no-body accepts the car engine issue to fix it.

6 Engine Noise problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/30/2019

2017 Honda crv- ex / stalling on freeway vehicle identification number 7farw1h57he006679 on may 29, 2018, my car which has 16,0000 miles on it, started making a horrible engine noise, cylinders misfiring, loss of power and stalled while on the 405 freeway, I began to panic due to fact I was in the fast lane. I started to smell gas in the passenger compartment while cars are streaming to halt to avoid a multi car pileup. I didn't know whether to get out of the car or stay in, that's when I saw an 18 wheeler barreling towards me trying to stop. This truck came 2 feet from rear ending me. I was to shaken to speak for 5 minutes because my life flashes in front of me. This is a safety issue and Honda should conduct an official recall. Does someone have to die before a recall take place? Honda's manager of recalls, brad ortloff, said oil in these engines could be diluted because of software settings or potential hardware failures. Some vehicles could experience a loss of power, leading to cylinder misfires or engine noise. In addition to those symptoms, consumers have reported that their engines stalled or that the vehicles experienced a sudden loss of power, raising safety concerns. During the past 6 months I've been having the following problems with my vehicle oil dilution, rising oil levels, stalling and loss of power and stalling. I understand that Honda motor company, ltd has recalled 350,000 Honda crv's in china & canada because of the same problem. I would like Honda to buy back my vehicle due to rising safety issues. Given that the problem is well documented, Honda has a responsibility to address these issues in an open and transparent manner. Anthony lewis NHTSA u. S. Attorney general dept. 7 Engine Noise problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/05/2019

Engine was making a fluttery sound. Noticed fuel in oil, found cams were binding and timing chain was stretched and loose. They replaced cylinder head and timing chain. Learned online this is a known result of oil diluted by fuel, and there is a fix but only for cars registered in certain states, not my state. Complained to american Honda, case #09409822. Was told oil dilution is normal, car should not be driven short distances - claimed this is in warranty documents - and they will do nothing, and also cannot provide me with anything in writing. No presale mention of "requirement" to not drive under several miles. With my 1/2-mile commute, would never have purchased this vehicle. Based on this I am terrified that some time while driving in the future the timing chain will fail while I am driving, the engine will stop, and this could lead to serious injury or death -- either mine or yhat of strangers.

8 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 01/18/2019

Contacted Honda regarding brand new 2018 Honda crv voyager regarding oil dilution. The company says that the gas smell on the vehicles oil dip stick is "normal. " they also stated that if the oil level is too high an interior light or engine noise would indicate an issue. Meaning that the oil level is arbitrary.

9 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 01/05/2019

I bought a 2018 Honda Cr-v (1. 5l turbo engine) in August. It only has 1700 miles, but so far it has stalled on me 3 times (while driving). The first 2 times, I was under 25 mph and it started stalling. Several lights were flashing on the dashboard cautioning engine failure, brake failure, tire pressure failure, etc. The car was making pinging noises while these lights were flashing and it wouldn't drive any longer. I had no choice but to pull over to the side of the road and wait for a tow truck to take me to the dealership. The 3rd time this happened, I was going almost 40mph and it stalled again (same as before). The car was also shaking and stuttering while simply sitting idle. Honda said that the crank shaft sensor (cpk) was defective and replaced it. . . However, that did not fix the problem. When I asked Honda if this stalling issue was related to articles describing the ongoing problems with this make/model (in recent years), they refused to acknowledge it and said they couldn't comment because it wasn't a "Honda article". I'm sure I'm not the only customer that has come to the dealership with this problem. . . Yet, they refuse to address that it's a serious problem. They also have not declared a recall. This is a serious life-threatening safety hazard. When the car stalled, I wasn't on the expressway, but on local roads; however, I don't feel safe driving this car anymore. I have no idea when it's going to stall again. Honda has given no assurances that they know what the problem is or can even fix it.

10 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/19/2018

Oil dilution causing elevated engine oil levels and camshaft pinging noise. Also smell of gas in oil and engine takes extended time to warm up. Initially, slight pinging noise (~5k miles) which became progressively worse.

11 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/19/2018

The vehicle exhibited minor pinging noise from engine and gas smell in cabin starting about September 2018. I called to have scheduled maintenance done as at about 5k miles. Honda motorwerks of la crosse service rep said wait until notified. Notification occurred and at same time I noticed louder ping. I schedule appt. At that appt on 12/19/2018 campaign recall: 18-114:6du00 was performed. I was assured the recall fix would address issue. It did not as pinging remains. Another appt today 12/20/2018 to look at noise again and lower oil level as was overfilled yesterday by Honda dealership. I request that NHTSA direct Honda to provide adequate resolution for these issue due to the safety issue(gas smell in cab, extensive gas in oil reservoir) and address damage done to vehicle due to compromised oil lubrication (cam pinging per recall documentation). Please help us Cr-v owners.

12 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/08/2018

My Cr-v 2018 doesn't run smooth and the engine is noisey but the big problem happened 12/08/18 when I parked the car to unload groceries when one hour later I went to start it the cabin filled with the strong smell of gasoline. I spoke to my mechanic who told me not to drive and have the dealership pick it up.

13 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Honda CR-V

15 Engine Noise problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/18/2018

Engine sounds - car is under 3,000 miles as of Nov. 2018. Purchased June 2018. Air conditioning did not work right after June 2018 purchase. Returned 3 times to get repaired and ever since this "repair) to fix the a/c, the engine has been very loud on acceleration from a full stop or to increase speed when at a low speed. Do not recall this loud engine at purchase. Loud engine sounds disappear at cruise. Had it to the dealer three times for this purpose and the dealer (salmon, repair department have stated, "nothing wrong, this is the way the new crv turbo engines sound).

17 Engine Noise problem of the 2010 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/22/2016

I purchased this car on 3/26/10 based upon performance ratings boasted by Honda. There have been manufacturers defects from the start. Currently about 118,000 miles. Early on I started hearing pinging sounds under the hood. Honda dealer said I was low on oil, put a quart in, and the sound stopped. He advised to put oil in whenever the sound occurred. This was before my first oil change. I continued to add oil as the sound re-occurred, 2-4 quarts between oil changes. I repeatedly questioned the consumption but no malfunction was found. July of 2011 Honda acknowledged the problem with (TSB#11-033). In November 2011, the dealer did an oil consumption software update. At this time there was no recall. The continual cost for synthetic oil remained and the oil light never came on. An oil consumption recall issued in 2015. The car failed the oil test Honda did required service as per recall protocol. The tech indicated the catalytic converter needs to be replaced but was out of warranty. Honda agreed to pay 50% of the cc repair. I declined since I have no money for this due to unemployment, nor should I put one cent into a car that has been defective from the start. My car was also recalled for takata airbags. Honda provided a rental car for 2. 5 months. I picked up the car and now the engine light is on, brakes malfunctioning and compromised cc. It is not safe to drive. I have been driving a car with a substantial defect from the day one. I have spent countless dollars on oil. There have been two recalls. The car is no longer safe or dependable due to cc and brakes. I am concerned about engine longevity. I will never be able to drive this vehicle without being fearful. I feel it is Honda¿s responsibility to make me whole and provide the type of vehicle I signed up for. Please advise next steps to bring about a resolution in the immediate future.

22 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Honda CR-V

There is a high vibration and engine noise, and is getting worse with time when I stop at a red light. Even after taking the car in for Honda to fix the problem, after 4 times the issue has not been fixed.

23 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/10/2015

There is an issue with the 2015 Honda Cr-v where the car vibrates and rattles significantly when idling in drive with brake depressed. The rpm seems to drop down to 600 and the engine starts making noise and vibrating. At the present time it is only an inconvinence and irrating but I feel that if this continues them we may be looking at premature wear and tear of parts just due to the excess vibrations. Consumers may be in for huge spends to replace parts that were worn out over the years due to excessive vibrations in the car.

24 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/08/2015

Engine has a cold start rattle, Honda says it is the vtc actuator. Honda has changed it once and it still makes the noise. Honda says that are working on a fix, but it looks like they have working on it since 2012.

26 Engine Noise problem of the 2014 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Grinding/sqeeking engine noise during initial startup on mostly cold days.

27 Engine Noise problem of the 2010 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

I first noticed excessive oil consumption in Dec 2014 when driving across west texas (speed limits are 80 mph). My oil light went on and the car was making noise when I arrived in tucson. I went to a dealer who said I had run out of oil but he didn't know why. I then went to where I purchesd the car but no reason for excessive oil found. I went to another mechanic- again no reason. In August 2015 Honda sent a letter explaining that 2010 and 2011 Cr-vs had a problem with sticky piston rings that could lead to excessive consumption. I contacted Honda and went through an oil consumption test. Although I documented 1. 5 quarts of oil burned in 1700 miles of highway, the average was less than Honda defined as excessive. I feel that this level of consumption is excessive, especially on longer highway drives and I am worrying about damaging the engine. Honda should do the warranty work. My local dealer suggested I continue to do my own oil consumption testing. The warranty is valid until Nov 2017 and for another 35,000 miles.

28 Engine Noise problem of the 2015 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

There are several onging problems caused by defects with this vehicle. There is a vibration when the car is in "drive" and completely stopped at an intersection. The rpm's drop, sometimes as low as 550 which causes a vibration as if the vehicle is about to stall. The lower the rpm's, the worse the vibration. On at least two occasions I have had to put the car in neutral at a stop light because the rpms dropped so low. There is another vibration or shudder in the trasnmissin between 1800 and 2000 rpms when accelerating. Sometimes I smell gasoline in my car shortly after ignition. Sometimes following deceleration, the cvt transmission cannot catch up, and when I need to accelerate again, I put the "pedal to the metal;" but the car is barely accellerating and not thrusting forward like it should. This occurred on a highway merge at I-83 and I-695 on December 19, 2014 (a tricky and dangerous merge area). Twice since 1/1/15 I have heard a frightening engine noise when decelerating on a windy downhill road. The noise sounds like a small plane is overhead, and I was shocked the car ws still running, as I was looking for check engine lights or some indication what was wrong. It is not a normal engine noise. Honda is aware of the vibrations when stopped and at 1800-2000 rpms and does not know if/when a fix may be available. I am not the only owner with this issue - there are a number of complaints on the various review boards, and Honda has acknowledged it is widespread. Honda will not provide their position to me in writing when asked. The dealer has been unable to duplicate the other problems which are more intermittent, and it will be back at the dealer next week to address the frightening engine noise and document that problem. I do not feel safe driving this car and I am concerned that it will fail, resulting in an accident.

29 Engine Noise problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

The car was making noise diagnosed by Honda as the transmission pump. Car had only 79,000 miles and was serviced regularly and all fluids are changed regularly. I had the transmission fixed elsewhere for half the price Honda wanted. I n,ever heard of a transmission problem at such a low mileage. Very disappointed in Honda.

30 Engine Noise problem of the 2013 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

When I turn on engine for the first time without any 1-2 hour gap, I hear a cranky engine sound after the ignition. I found that it was a manufacturing defect in 2013 model. My close friend returned his Honda crv after a year as it sounded loud in cold weather conditions of montana. In my case it was not sounding everytime till now. I notified that to my car dealer when I took this vehicle from bob rohrman. These days it has become a daily routine, that sound is happening each time you ignite engine after a gap of say 1-2 hours. My brakes were always noisy since day one of the vehicle. It was also notified to the dealer however I was told it was due to wet conditions. However it is a regular thing. My car is just 7880 miles and well kept, why is the brake so noisy including another problem occurring in engine now. Please provide a resolution or I will have no choice but to request for refund.

31 Engine Noise problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/30/2008

My 2003 crv was making a strange faint squealing sound. Shortly after that the air conditioner stopped working, and was running funny. I took it straight to my mechanic. He had to replace the entire unit, at an overall cost of 1,200. 00 a week later the same thing happened to my friend with her crv and as I began to search on line, it has happened to 100's of others with the '03 and '04 crv's. I am angry that Honda hasn't issued a recall after covering the cost for most of these persons. Clearly they are aware of the consistent problem with the air compressor. I am currently waiting to hear back from Honda.

34 Engine Noise problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/02/2005

I took my car for a wash and while I was waiting for my turn, I started hearing some noise coming from the engine-pitch sound. I got alarmed and I thought it will go. Later when I drove home, I parked my car in the garage and the noise continued. On the 03 oct 05 the sound increased in pitch but I am unable to diagnose where its coming from. For those who are familiar with sonar sound(navy ships), the noise sounds the same and high pitched.
