3 Ignition problem of the 2009 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/27/2012

Attempted to park my vehicle and was unable to turn the key to eject it from the ignition. This has continued to happen intermittently, however, Honda says they cannot recreate the problem, therefore they cannot fix the problem. The car is only 3 years old and I have to make several attempts to straighten the wheels in order to eject the key. This has been happening for approximately 2 weeks, very frustrating, parking and reparking until I can get the key out, and apparently it's my problem, not Hondas!.

10 Ignition problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/02/2009

I had been having some problems with getting my key out of my ignition in my 2002 Honda crv. Sometimes it would get stuck and not turn all the way off, I. E. , the power would still be on but the engine was off. Recently the key would not come out of the ignition at all. I had to jiggle it and try to force turn it. I took it to my mechanic who had a locksmith work on the "tumblers". This solved the problem for about a week. Even with the work done, it happened again. I took it back to my mechanic and we had to replace the entire ignition lock system. The locksmith installed it and did not charge labor for the second job. After reading some of the reports about this problem with Honda crv's, I am now concerned that the problem may be with the gear shift.

11 Ignition problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/14/2007

We purchased a new Honda crv 2007 for my daughter in college in October 2006 from ed voyles Honda, marietta, GA. In April of 2007 my daughter had trouble starting the car after it had been driven and left parked for a hour or more. She had to crank the engine for 10-20 minutes before the car would start. We documented the problem in e-mail to the dealership and took the car in on more than three occasions. They were unable to replicate the problem. During July 2007 we left the car at the dealership for three weeks for them to try and re-create the problem, they were unable to do so. The dealership consulted with the Honda tech-line and they could still not recreate the problem. During the past seven months we have had this problem occurring more than 15 times to different drivers of the vehicle. On Sunday 10-14-2007 in frustration I gave my car to my daughter to take back to college since the Honda crv was proving to be too unreliable. On the day I drove the crv and sure enough after having parked the car for 3 hours it took me 24 minutes of cranking to start the car. Once the car started I drove for two miles and then it just cut-out. This left me stranded in the middle of a busy intersection for 3 terrifying minutes of cranking the engine before it started again. We have now returned the car to the dealership and we have a rental from the dealership. The Honda crv 2007 has proved to be very unreliable and as a parent I am concerned for the safety of my daughter driving this car. We have lost confidence in the vehicle and think that Honda USA should now remedy the situation. In our estimation this car is a "lemon" and we are now considering our legal options under the georgia lemon law. By all rights Honda USA should replace this vehicle with a new one.

20 Ignition problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/11/2002

The reason for this report is that while driving on the interstate at approximately 55 miles per hour in the right hand lane. My engine just died as if the key was turned off. I coasted over to the shoulder of the interstate. It was very fortunate that I was not in a faster lane of this four lane interstate, as this could have very well caused a major accident. After I was stopped on the shoulder my ignition was still in the on position. I tried to restart my engine and it started so I proceeded on. I took it to my Honda dealer and they stated that they had never heard of this happening before. They put it on the computer plus test drove it and said the could not find anything wrong. I am very concerned that this could happen again and possibly being involved in an accident. I checked an automotive website forum and noticed a few other people with this same vehicle had experienced the same problem. Their dealers could not find anything wrong, either. Has anyone reported this problem to the NHTSA before? dt.

24 Ignition problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

25 Ignition problem of the 1997 Honda CR-V

The vehicle stalls suddenly for no apparent reason. Sometimes when I first start the engine and in idle, the car will suddenly shut off by itself. Other times I will be driving on the street and the engine will suddenly stop. Sometimes there is an indication that it will stall because moments before it does the rpm guage will drop to zero and go back to where it was before but then the car will stall. Other times the engine will just shut off in the middle of the road. We have taken the car to have a diganostic done at the Honda dealer and they said there is nothing wrong with it. We have also replaced the computer module and the coils from a private auto mechanic. The car restarts after stalling but it takes up to 5 trys to restart the engine. This is very dangerous because it has stalled on the freeway and in traffic.
