The ignition switch turned off the crv while driving. It would start up again if manually turing the switch to run or on, or at at stop turing it to start after putting the transmission into park/neutral, but before this there is little control to the steering & brakes. It is especially dangerous at intersections where you need two hands to steer. This has happened multiple times over the months ive had the crv. But today, the ignition switch doesnt seem to work at all.
Tl the contact owns a 2004 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that the front driver's side door lock, power steering, and ignition switch malfunctioned. Wolfchase Honda (2982 n germantown pkwy, bartlett, TN 38133, (901) 255-3700) stated that the door locks needed replacement, but there was no guarantee that this would remedy the failure. In addition, the power steering was leaking fluid, but the dealer did not know if it was the steering pump or hose. The dealer stated that they would have to disassemble the power steering to diagnose the failure. The contact was informed that the power steering may last until March. The contact also had difficulty placing all four keys in the ignition. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 160,000.

2007 crv purchased new. 198,000. Car has been failing to furn over intermittently for a couple of months on first try. All lights on dashboard light up, but only a low wurring noise. Turn key back, wait a second or two and it starts right up. Today, when I started the car the check engine light was on. After driving for about 3 - 4 miles, both the vsa light and the trangle light came on and the car started bucking and driving very roughly. Conituned until I could safely pull over. Turned car off and then back on. The vsa nad triangle lights went off and the car returned to driving normally for the remainder of my commute (~8 miles). Parked car for 10 hours. When starting again, the exact same scenario occured except the vsa and triangle lights came on after about 2/10's of a mile. Pulled over and shut the car off and only the check engine light remained on and driving returned to normal. Upon arriving home, I started to research these issues and stumbled upon some posts regarding possible recalls and/or technical service bulletin's regarding faulty ignition switches and a correlation between the starting issues, the dashlights and the bucking and rough driving I had encountered.

January 12, 2018 instrument panel went completely dark. (rain related?) drove car through rain, parked and turned car off for a few minutes. When got back in and started car, instrument panel, ignition switch and shift lever lights all off. Econ mode indicator remained on. Fifteen minutes later tpms indicator came on. Instrument panel unresponsive to brightness control knob or headlight selection. When parked again, all doors did not unlock with driver door opening. January 13, 2018 issues appear to be resolved when car started. All instrument panel lights back on. Tpms reset and did not turn on again. Reported issue on Honda service site.

My Cr-v will stop running suddenly and without warning. I found that other Cr-v's had a recall for the ignition switch which is exactly the same as what my car has. (a faulty ignition switch. Even though the car has 200500 miles it has been garage kept and serviced regularly and is in excellent condition. It seems that my car having the exact same symptoms of the same year ignition switch recalls should be covered as well. While driving anywhere between 30 and 55 m. P. H. The car stalls because engine stops running without any warning. I put it into neutral and it starts right back up. It will keep doing the exact same thing once or twice a week now. It started out once or twice a month.

My 1997 Honda Cr-v is cutting off 5 or more times a day, going down the free way,in mid turns, while setting still, it is a very huge concern of mine for the safety of my 3 children and I. Everytime I need to roll my windows up to have to turn the ignition switch a notch further than needed. . . Almost starting it again for it to register. . On the middle notch the dash lights won't even turn on. . And when it's going to cut off the gauges go haywire. . . And I checked my VIN # but no recalls but for the year make model there is. . .
When vehicle is running, and in motion, the engine will suddenly stop. Once stopped, I can start it right back up. Touching the keys in the ignition switch may cause the same behavior.

This is for my Honda crv 2002, we have enough trouble for this car from airbag to power windows and now is the ignition key thats losing contact, the car wont start after 5 or 6 times of trying to turn the key to start mode. I searched online and found that this is a known problem for this car. I called Honda and they said that they're not aware of this issue. Im writing this email to get some help from you to address this issue. I dont know why Honda always play this game of not helping out the consumers right away, they always wait until someone gets hurt or die before they act on this kind of issue. This ignition switch is very dangerous, what if my car stall in the middle of the freeway? this is very very dangerous and scary. . . Thanks for your help.

My vehicle had a recall for the ignition switch in 2002. My Honda crv is a 1999 that I recently purchased. The previous owner had the ignition switch replaced at the time of the recall. I discovered that the car was shutting off with no warning while I was driving. According to the information on the Honda recall website, this part needs to be replaced because summary: on certain sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and sport utility vehicles, electrical contacts in the ignition switch can degrade due to the high electrical current passing through the switch when the vehicle is started. Consequence: worn contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. Honda is not therefore correcting the cause of the ignition switch degradation, they are simply admitting that it wears out prematurely and poses a safety hazard so they are required to replace it. It has now been 13 years since it was replaced and I believe that it has worn out. When I took it in to Honda on grand, I was told that the ignition switch did in fact need to be replaced, but that the car also had a bad cylinder and they wanted $798. 00 to fix both with two hours of labor. They insisted that since the part had been replaced under the original recall, they were not required to replace it again. I am disputing this since Honda admits that the part wears out faster due to the configuration, I. E. , high electrical charge, and this poses a safety risk as it causes the car to die out. The car was only three years old when the part was replaced during the original recall, and they have already substantiated that the part is worn out. In addition, Honda charges almost $300 for the ignition switch, but it is available on the internet for $40. 00, and it only required 30 minutes to replace.

Since we purchased this vehicle (new) it makes periodic electrical shorting noises when starting the vehicle (turning the ignition key). There is obviously an electrical problem with the ignition switch. It doesn't happen every time the vehicle is started, but many times. Our family is afraid the vehicle is eventually going to shock our hands - the vehicle now has about 15k miles on it but it has happened since the vehicle came from the dealership.

This letter is a follow-up to Honda regarding a letter I had submitted on February 26, 2014. June 10, 2014 I was contacted by a Honda customer service representative regarding the letter outlined below and was told that there was no assistance available from Honda despite safety concerns. I was also told by the local Honda dealership that there have been issues with ignition/igniters with Honda crvs (especially the 98 crv which included a recall in 2002 for this very issue) and that I can go ahead and replace the ignition switch at a cost of approximately $200 plus labor (for a known defect). I had this work done approximately a year and a half ago and the issue continues as the vehicle will shut down while driving and will restart after sits. Unfortunately, this is a vehicle that not only do I drive on open highways but my daughter drives as well. In light of the recent events with a similar issue with gm vehicles, I would ask that my situation be given additional consideration.
2002 Honda Cr-v. Consumer states his vehicle rolled backwards after taking the key out of the ignition, because he did not properly shift it into park. He was not notified of a recall and on Hondas website the status of his vehicle was that this issue was repaired and it was not.
The contact owns a 1999 Honda crv. The contact stated the vehicle was part of NHTSA campaign id number: 02v120000 (electrical system:ignition:switch). The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired before the contact owned the vehicle. While driving approximately 25 mph the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact replaced the battery and was able to restart the vehicle. The failure occurred several times while driving various speeds after the battery was replaced. The contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians stated the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 230,000.
I believe my 2003 Honda crv has a defective ignition switch interlock. The key can be removed when the car is off and the gear is not in park. As a result my crv has rolled down my driveway 3 different times, plowing into the hillside across the street, and recently nearly ran over my wife. On 10/07/10 I took my car to our local Honda dealer who said there was no recall for this problem on my car. Honda acknowledged and I believe corrected key interlock failure problems on pre-2003 models and should be required to correct post-2003 crv defective ignition switch interlocks.
Without warning our 1998 Honda crv (112k miles) died one afternoon while wife was taking kids to the pool. There was no warning signs or dash lights to warn of a problem. The engine stopped. Fortunately she was waiting for the light to change at an intersection with no traffic behind her. Vehicle started again after a minute and she was able to get it to the pool lot. After a few attempts, engine would start, but just caught off. Vehicle was towed to local mechanic who first assumed it was a bad distributor. After reviewing possible causes on internet, our mechanic found complaints about faulty ignition switches. Fortunately this was the problem and could be replaced. Honda dealer said they had replaced 4 of these switches in the last 4 weeks. Prior to this car ran fine, except one morning my wife discovered when she turned the key in the ignition, the dash lights flickered and there was a series of rapid clicks before engine started. This was several months before this incident. Mechanic has replaced the defective switch and car starts and runs fine. Honda should warn owners of older model crv's that this switch should be replaced after 100k miles. We were lucky car was not moving in traffic when this happened, as you have little control when engine shuts off and steering is difficult and dangerous.
2000 Honda crv, faulty ignition switch. Electrical system shuts down spontaneously, blows out various circuits from excess voltage.
1998 Honda crv stalls at highway speeds and at city speeds. . . Highway speeds are particularly dangerous in that should I have been overtaking a vehicle when mine stalled it could have created a horrific accident and fatalities started at about 130,000 km happened 4 times without notice. Ignition switch was failing. . . Replaced at a cost of $65 for the part plus 1 hour labor @ !00. Plus shop supplies and taxes. The old part is available.
The contact owns a 1998 Honda crv lx. While driving at approximately 62 mph, the vehicle completely shut off. There were no warning lights before or after the failure. The contact was able to coast over to the emergency lane. The vehicle re-started after the contact attempted four times. While the contact was driving the vehicle to the dealership, the vehicle shut off three additional times. The dealer replaced the ignition switch for a second time. The failure mileage was 119,461. The current mileage was 123,922.
While I'm driving the engine will shut off by itself. I start again and run for a period of time and shut off again. I read from Honda service bulletin that ignition switch causing the problem and it's recall parts.
The contact owns a 1999 Honda Cr-v. The contact reviewed the nhsta campaign id number 02v120000 (electrical system: ignition: switch). An authorized dealer performed the recall repair; however, the following components were inoperative: the security alarm system, power door lock system, and the panic device. The technician stated that the security alarm system was disengaged during the recall repair due to the wiring connection to the ignition switch. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to an automotive security alarm technician to reconnect the switch. The contact was requesting that the technician reconnect the switch since all of the malfunctions occurred due to the recall repair. The vehicle has not been repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 163,391 and the current mileage was 163,411.
Several years ago on mycarstate. Com I found information that was helpful with my 1998 Honda Cr-v. But I haven't specifically seen information about this "next" issue. For the past year or so, on occasion, I can't get my car key out of the ignition switch. The car will not turn all the way off. I can't get the key to turn all the way to the left. If I restart the car, put it in any gear, move the car slightly (even an inch), turn the car off again, then I can remove the key. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to do all this, so there is no leaving the car immediately. Where this becomes a big issue is when I valet park the car. The valet's can't get the key out, therefore they either have to park my car near than and watch or park it elsewhere and I take my chances on the car not being entered by someone else. I'm 2 hours away from a Honda dealer, I think. I'll try to find a dealer this week, as the problem seems to get worse in this colder weather. Any help would be appreciated.
