37 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

My fiancée, me, and ouf 3 month old son were involved in a pretty serious roll over October 13th of this year and we had no air bags during the wreck they deployed at a delay hitting me in the head. I had already hit my head on my window shattering and breaking it. After we were upside down the passenger side air bags deployed, then when about a minute or two went by I exited my seat dazed. As I came out my seat I was met by an forgiving blow my side air bags whitch had not deployed after all thi s time. I got myself together and got my fiancée and child out the car. Honda told me wreck was my fault for improper use of the vsa ok fine but what about the air bags that shouldn't have made them not deploy. The rep was rude and said basically tuff luck and got off the phone as if he did not care it happened I could have died and lost my son due to the air bag issue what if it had went off with me getting him out? the guy said h I nda a as not at fault. I didn't know any of the information he tried to provide me after the wreck so now I'm left dealing with a lot of headaches and mental pain and told to let it go. I'm not going to really concidering court if no one else will help. It was my fault with the vsa cause I had no manual or nothing so I thought all that time we were operating it right so I take that blame but the air bags no it had nothing to do with how we were hammered after the wreck. Physically and mentally.

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

My mother was in an accident, she was driving on gravel road and she slid off road, down an embankment which left the vehicle on it's side and hit a tree head-on. My question is, why did the airbags not deploy? she hit her head on steering wheel twice and suffered neck and back injuries. Thank the lord she had her seatbelt on. The van is totaled and I am thankful that my mother is alive but very disappointed and angry that airbags did not deploy.

40 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

Our 4 small children and a parent were in the vehicle while it was turned on and sitting in our driveway in the parked position when the curtain airbags along the entire length of the Honda oddyssey on both sides of the vehicle spontaneously deployed causing significant hearing damage to all occupants and rendering the vehicle inoperable. We are now very frightened that there is an obvious safety defect with our Honda Odyssey and that at a future time any other airbag in the minivan may spontaneously deploy again or that in the event of a serious collision the airbag system may fail to deploy all together causing serious injury or fatality.

42 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/21/2013

Service safety recall regarding srs malfunction was performed on my van by paul miller Honda in caldwell, NJ on 12/21/2013. After the work was done, the srs malfunction light comes on after 30 minutes of driving. Notified dealer and american Honda. American Honda opened a case for this, n012014-01-0200225. Was advised for a complete diagnostic report from the dealer. Went back to dealer for test on 1/4/14 and a dtc code 53-31, internal failure of srs unit, was called out on test. Wants srs unit replaced at my own expense. Advised by dealer that this not related to recall. The recall was adding wires on the harness wires set to the srs unit. I was advised by american Honda to seek diagnostic test to other dealer. Went to garden state Honda in passaic, NJ on 1/22/14 for a more thorough test. The dealer insist on replacing 2 year battery as this might causes dtc 53-31. Cca on battery was 450, recommended is 550. Told advisor that cca is for cold cranking/starting of van and irrelevant to the problem as long as output is a sustained 12 vdc and I do not have problem when starting the van. Forced to comply at my own expense. Problem still exists with new battery. On 2/6/14 and after 3 trips, dealer recommends replacement of srs unit on my own expense and not related to recall like the first dealer. The dealer is uncertain if this will resolve the issues. This will be elimination process at my own expense. Van has never had any srs fault for 10 years. Only after the recall was done when srs fault light comes on. Now, safety of the driver and passengers are compromised. Air bag may deploy or may not deploy if and when needed. American Honda will not cover the expenses based on the recommendation of dealer. Honda should shoulder all expenses related to the resolution of the srs fault and the safety of the vehicle. Driver and passenger. . . Updated 02/27/14.

44 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/21/2013

I recently received a recall notice for a module in the airbag system causing it to deploy on its own. The additional problem that I am having is the " srs " light is on which as I was told by the Honda mechanic that it means that the air bag might not deploy if needed . They also refused to fix the light being on because they said the 2 problems had nothing to do with each other. It would seem to me more of a safty hazzard that the air bag would not inflate when you would need it as apposed to going off by itself. They are making me bring it back another day so they can charge $115. 00 diagnostic fee plus other parts what is needed.

58 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/14/2011

Brakes failed causing a crash. We bought the vehicle brand new in 2007 and have noticed spongy, soft, hard to stop brakes from the beginning. Dealerships, we have taken it to more than one, always say it's fine, no failure, no problem can be repeated. We had the brakes replaced just in case and have had both recall jobs fixed, one just last week. This week cars stopped short in front of my husband while he was driving, he could not stop, tried to slam brakes and the van would not stop, he put the pedal to the floor and nothing. He hit the car in front of him. We have had a few problems with trying to stop short in the past but have avoided a crash before. A recall is just not enough, it didn't fix the problem for our van. Also the airbag did not deploy.

59 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/08/2011

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the driver side and passenger side airbags deployed suddenly. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that they were unable to diagnose the failure and that it maybe a mechanical failure but that the air bags should not have deployed unless there was an impact. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 67,200.

60 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/22/2010

Typical Honda Odyssey soft brake pedal. We've had this brake issue since new. Multiple recalls, adjustments, etc. . . Honda for some reason can't figure out the problem. Our van was wrecked twice because of this stupid brake problem. The first wrecked happened in August 2010. The brake pedal went to the floor and caused a front end collision. I took it to Honda again, but they said nothing was wrong with the brakes. Then the second wreck occurred. Same reason as the first. That's two serious accidents in 1. 5 year time span. Each time the damage exceeded $10,000. Both accidents occurred because the brakes were soft and the vehicle wouldn't slow down fast enough. Oh, did I forget to mention that the airbags never deployed in either accident. What's the point in having airbags if they are not going to deploy in a major front end collision. This vehicle is flat out dangerous.

61 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/05/2010

In may, 2010, srs light came on. Dealer diagnosed air bag sensor in passenger seat failed and replaced under extended opds warranty. In Aug 2010, srs light came on again. Dealer diagnosed srs control unit failure and noted air bags would not deploy if there was an impact. Not covered under their extended warranty. This is a major safety issue and appears to be a common issue with Honda vehicles.

62 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/14/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. While driving 40 mph in traffic the vehicle in front of her crashed into another vehicle. She referenced recall 10v504000, service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:master cylinder and stated that the recall was directly related to her failure. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 49,000. Updated 3/14/11 the consumer stated the vehicle had to be taken back to the repair shop, because the vehicle would not stop. It was discovered air was in the brakes. Updated 05/05/11.

63 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 1999 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/07/2010

The srs warning light stays on all the time when the car is running for my 1999 Honda Odyssey lx. It was sent to the dealer and had dt code 1-1. Further check by the dealer in the second visit resulted in the diagnosis for "cable reel replacement" in the steering wheel. The charge for the initial diagnostics was $95 plus tax and the charge for parts and labor for the replacement of cable reel will be another $250. The cable reel in the steering wheel should not be damaged by normal driving for a vehicle at 54k miles. It has to be due to the bad design and/or manufacturing. The airbag system is an important safety feature and should be under factory warranty for an extended period of time. Ironically, if the safety belt is malfunctioning and causes the srs light on, Honda has a lifetime warranty for the repair and diagnosis cost. One can think that the seat belt may be damaged through normal or excessive usage. How could a driver damage the cable reel in the steering wheel when the airbag is never deployed?.

Failure Date: 09/11/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. Prior to this repair the air bag sensors were replaced. The failure and current mileages were 73,900. Updated 10/21/09 updated 10/20/jb.

66 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

I was in my 2009 Honda Odyssey and I was the last of 3 cars that had stopped for a school bus. I was rear-ended by a 4th car that did not stop. Then my front end hit the car in front of me. 67 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

Odi complaint number 10263934 - unable to retrieve complaint from safercar. Gov website. Can you please send me the link to review the complaint I made? the carfax report on my car states the air bag was deployed at the time of the accident. It was not and I had complained to NHTSA about Honda that the airbag was not deployed and it was a major accident. I'm trying to correct the record with carfax, but I need to be able to show that I had raised this issue at the time of the accident. This is affecting the value of the van during time of sale.

68 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/22/2008

1. On sat, November 22, 2008, my family and I were riding in our 2004 Honda Odyssey. We were traveling west on 94 through menomonie, WI at a posted speed of 65 mph. It was 6:15 or so, and the sun had gone down. There was a lot of traffic on the road as it was hunting season in WI. Without warning, 2 large deer jumped in front of our minivan. My husband hit both deer - one went over the top of the van, and one went under the van - both deer were killed by the impact. My husband did not loose control of the car, and we did not hit anything else. There was extensive front end damage, and the car was no longer able to be driven. 2. The front airbags did not deploy! while there was no physical injury to either my husband or myself, I know there was a defect as the airbags should have deployed in a front end impact at that speed. 3. Nothing has been done to date to correct the failure as front end of minivan needs extensive repair in order to be driven again.

69 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/14/2008

I was driving my 2007 Honda Odyssey. As I was coming to a stop, I became involved in an accident. Over the recent weeks I thought it was taking longer to stop my van, but had my van in for service the week before. I was assure that everything was fine and all fluid levels were correct. ***note: on my first service visit the service adviser told me that I should not be concerned about brake fluid levels that the van would notify me when it was time to replace the breaks and that the van was designed to do so. The police were called to the scene of the accident. I could not explain the accident and the officer coaxed me in to saying that I had been distracted. I was in shock. My son was in the car with me and I could not think much of anything else other than whether he was safe. I believe I had come to a complete stop then hit the vehicle in front of me. My airbags did not deploy. Ever since the accident I have continued to notice that I must press the brake pedal all the way to the floor at times to stop the van and other times I don't in normal driving circumstances. All along I had believed the dealership that everything was fine with my vehicle. Now I have damages to pay and a ticket I am facing as a result of what I believe to be break failure. I will be making a follow-up report with my local police department, faxing a copy other similar break failure complaints to my insurance company, contacting Honda and hopefully will be able to get some answers on the problem with my van.
