Without much or any warning my transmission failed (the dreaded p0730 code showed up on the scanner) on my 2003 Honda Odyssey ex-l van with only 100,325 miles. The van was never abused or used to tow. Transmission was rebuilt 1. 30. 12 by private shop continental transmission for $1800. (torque converter blown to pieces). Honda does have limited recalls on trannys but mine was not included (only if 2nd shaft is broken & scored and burnt/ bluish color) this will documented tranny problem with 2nd generation Odyssey is very upsetting and I blame it on a poor design by Honda engineers (under sized tranny paired with a power v6 240hp heavy 4500lbs van has been a recipe for premature failure). The worst part was on 1. 5. 12 I just had extensive preventative maintenance done at don davis Honda (timing belt, water pump, tensioner and power steering belts) and two weeks later the transmission fails!!! other issues with the van have been, ac compressor failed may 2010 88,648 miles. Rear wiper motor failed March 2011 89,240 miles, both sliding power door rollers had to replaced. Brake switch failed (locked up), Dec 2011 98,750 miles van would not move out of park. Not real happy or confident with Honda right now!.

I cut and pasted part of another complaint as this complaint perfectly explains my complaint. "the right rear passenger intermittently fails to open or close. This occurs when using the remote, driver buttons, or the door handles (interior & exterior). It appears to jump off the track. We have had it looked at by a Honda" 5 times. I bought it used from the dealership and it was a certified, pre owned Honda. The 4th time I took it in they replaced the replaced the harness and pinch center in may 8, 2012. They said the middle roller was broken as well and that was replaced in February 2012. But I am still having trouble. This morning when I brought it in to look at it, the door made the loud popping sound it sometimes makes after I have tried to open it for a long time without success. The technician saw it but like all of them, he just looked dumbfounded and did not appear to know what to do. I mentioned others have complained about the doors on this site and they did not seem to care. The most aggravating thing is that when I bring it in to the shop to be seen, the door always works for the Honda guys so it looks like I am crazy.

The contact owns a 2010 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the rear sliding door on the driver side was being closed by a child occupant when it closed on the child's hands. There were no severe injuries but the childs hand was swollen. The contact felt that there should have been a sensor that would stop the door from closing if there was an obstruction. The contact did not contact the dealer or the manufacturer. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired for the failure. The current and failure mileages were 13,801.

Trying to close the rear passenger-side automatic sliding door, it would close half-way, start beeping and open up again. It would do this over and over again, until it finally closed several tries later. Turning the automatic function off would not help. When putting it on manual function, the door would jam and literally not budge. This happened several times before it just stopped working altogether. The last time we attempted to open the door, it ended up remaining open for the entire day because it was literally jammed in the open position. Thankfully it was in our driveway! we haven't opened it since. Moving forward to last month, November 2012. The driver's side automatic door started squeaking upon opening and closing. A week later, it too was refusing to shut. This time I was at a grocery store and ended up stranded in the parking lot with my 6 year old for over an hour before I could finally get the door to shut. It is winter and thus, very cold these days. I am now having to load my kids in the van from the front passenger side door or through the trunk. I don't dare open either automatic door. Unfortunately, I have seen this exact scenario with too many other Honda Odyssey owners. This has the potential of being a major safety issue, depending on where people are when the doors refuse to close. Not to mention the potential insurance liability if the doors refuse to close and one is left with no choice but to leave their vehicle wide open for any length of time.

The contact owns a 2010 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the rear sliding doors were manufactured with a sensor to prevent the doors from closing when the door was obstructed. The contacts fingers were obstructing the rear driver sliding door and instead of sensing his fingers were in the door, closed on his fingers resulting in severe bruising and abrasions to the left hand. The contact spoke with the manufacturer but was told there was nothing they could do to assist. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileage was 30,000.
The right rear passenger intermittenly fails to open or close. This occurs when using the remote, driver buttons, or the door handles (interior & exterior). It appears to jump off the track. We have had it looked at by a Honda dealer no less than 3 times. I know of two other people who have the same problem with their 2007 Odyssey.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the rollers broke on the rear driver side door which caused the door to come off the hinge. The contact noticed no prior problems with the door. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 150,000.
The driver side electric sliding door will not close all the way.
1. No known events leading to failure. 2. Sliding doors fail to open/close. It has occurred several times. Consequences include failure to exit the vehicle in an emergency
3. Taken to dealer several times and parts replaced and failure occurs again.

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the rear passenger door opened independently while driving 20 mph. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair facility numerous times for the failure. The door sensor was cleaned several times and the fuse was replaced yet the failure persisted. The manufacturer stated they had not received any reports concerning the failure and would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 119,000 and the current mileage was 140,066.
2000 Honda Odyssey, the electric sliding door does not shut all the way and there is possibility that it can open while driving at high speed, that can result in a very dangerous situation because mostly small children are riding in the back seat.

The driver side rear sliding door on my 2005 Honda Odyssey opened while I was driving down the road at 55 mph. If this is not a safety issue, I don't know what is!!!!!!.
There were no events or issues leading up to the event. While traveling at a speed of approx 35 mph the latch on the slider door (driver's side) became disengaged and the slider door opened. The door was properly closed and and locked. The slider failed to close after that. Put the vehicle in for replacement of latch.

Automatic sliding doors do not operate correctly. The passenger side power sliding door closes but not quite all the way, it will not "engage", or "catch". Therefore, the van thinks the door is still open (open door light is on, buzzes continually when put into gear, and interior lights stay on). However, the power sliding door indicator light is not on, so the van thinks the door is fine, but still open. I have to get out, walk around, and physically bump the rear of the door the final centimeter or so to get it flush. For some reason the back lock part isn't "catching. " this occurs almost every time the door is shut. This is a danger for any children riding in the car if the door is not engaged. Fuse #13 has been taken out so doors were reset and everything cleaned and oiled.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Odyssey. The contact was driving approximately 35-40 mph, when the vehicle stability assist system activation indicator and vehicle stability assist system indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on two occasions where the computerized system code was reset. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on a third occasion and the yaw sensor was replaced. The failure continued after the repairs were performed. The contact was in the process of taking the vehicle back to the dealer to be repaired. In addition, the passenger side automatic door failed to release. The vehicle was repaired for the malfunction. Also, the front passenger side axle and struts were replaced. The failure mileage was 31,253.

2006 Honda Odyssey: automatic door on driver side slide open while accelerating on an on ramp to a highway with automatic locks locked. The on ramp was curved as well. The door was not shutting completely unless I manually closed it. The door stayed closed. There were no lights indicating an open door. I had the automatic door function off. I turned it on to close the door and turned the power off again until I could get to a safe spot to manually close. I brought it in to the dealer and the automatic door motor was replaced as well as the roller.
2006 Honda Odyssey. Sliding door has been stiff intermittently (which we lubricated) and on a few occasions door would not close until warmed up in garage. On June 5th, 2010 husband opened door and door fell completely off track and would have landed on ground if he had not caught it. Contacted Honda canada told hadn't heard of problem. 15 minute internet search reveals 10 others with same year and model who have suffered same incident. Took it to dealer will replace the roller/hinge which broke- approx $230. 00 to fix (not covered under extended warranty). Huge safety concern that this part can break and let car door fall down-imagine it had been on one of my kids aged 5 and 6.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while the children were getting out of the sliding door on the right passenger side, the door stopped midway. The contact stated that now the door would not open at all. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 59,000.
My 2006 Honda Odyssey. The passenger side electric sliding door fell off of the hinge. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated that the door was not covered under the warranty and told me that I was responsible for the repair cost. The Honda manufacturer has not been contacted. The failure mileage was 48,000. The drive side squeaks, creaks, rattles, and clunks it sounds like it is also get ready to fall off.
I drive a 2003 Honda Odyssey and have been experiencing problems with the rear sliding doors working intermittently, trapping my 12 month granddaughter in the car seat. I have had "rollers" replaced. Now they want me to pay for door latch motor which was not an issue until their "repair". It appears from websites that this is a global issue and Honda needs to take ownership for the safety problem. The alarms go off while in motion indicating the door is open. When the doors are non-functional the passengers can be trapped requiring crawling over seats to get out or to retrieve infants/toddlers.
Left (driver's side) sliding door on Honda Odyssey will not close or lock. Had to drive to the dealer with the door constantly opening and my children inside the car. My friend sat on the back seat to try to keep the door closed. I do think this is a safety issue since this happened out of the blue without any warning at all. The dealer said that "Honda does not see it as a safety issue". I see the door property closing as a safety issue since it is a family car with children involved. I see it as a safety issue just like I see seat belts as a safety issue. I think there is something wrong with this problem, it is unsafe.
I would like to report a safety issue with the Honda Odyssey minivan. The metal hinges on the driver and passenger door do a terrible job at keeping the doors open. I make sure that the door is in the detente position. It doesn't matter. A slight gust of wind or if the car is on an incline, the doors will slam shut on their own. Itt smashed & broke a bone in my left hand. It slammed close on my shins before that many times. I am frightened for fear of severe injury to some body part being slammed into the door of guests and being sued. I make a point to have my whole body leaning on the door if it needs to stay open for some purpose now. This is really a safety issue for the whole family. I know other owners have the same experience. I have never driven another car that I was afraid the front door would slam shut on me - without warning - before this. 1999 Honda Odyssey rear power sliding door will not latch.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. While driving at approximately 55 mph, the contact stated that the driver side sliding door open and closed on its own. When the contact locked the doors, the door would remain closed. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 91,000. The failure mileage was approximately 90,980.
Driver was switching lane on a freeway. The signal did not work. On the same day, the power door lock and power sliding door and keyless entry did not work too. After taking it to Honda, according to their service bulletin on 11/12/08, they claimed it is a electrical problem and b-can dtc after exposure to the water leaks. The service bulletin claimed water enter where the connector c701 behind the left rear side trim panel. The correction action is seal the pwr sliding door pulley mount, reposition the foam block, dry connector c701, and apply dielectric grease to the connector. If the issue occurs outside of the warranty, a goodwill consideration would be offer but needs to be requested. I end up paying half which I don't think it is fair because: 1) I park my van in my garage 2) my van is 4 yrs old and is only 37k young, 3) I live is a relatively dry climate, in CA for these reasons, my car is indoor 95% and spends 98% of its time in dry climate. I believe this issue is a defect and does cause a serious safety issue because it impacts turning signals. Another reason why I think it is unfair is the day I got my car back after it was in the shop for 5 days, it was working when I picked it up and then by the time I got home, it wasn't working. I think there is something else wrong and I don't think they have identify a root cause.
The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while attempting to close the passengers side automatic sliding door, there was an unusually loud rumble and the entire door fractured from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs. The failure and current mileage were 50,000.
The driver side power door on my 2003 Honda Odyssey will not close all the way. It opens as I drive down the road. It is the rear latch system on the drivers side power sliding door. This is the same issue that the 1999's were having and they were recalled. This issue is extremely dangerous and in my opinion needs to be fixed ASAP.
My niece, age 5, reached for her seatbelt as the door was closing and her hand was crushed between the door and the vehicle. There are sensors on the front side of the door, but it seems that there are no sensors on the back side of the door (where the seatbelt is located).
This is an on-going safety issue and possible equipment defect involving the check rod mechanism on the front doors of the vehicle. The check rods do not provide adequate resistance to keep the door open. When the vehicle is parked and the front door is in the fully opened position, the door is prone to swing shut. This occurs in a variety of situations: on a level surface, if the door is pushed open, the door will sometimes swing back on the occupant; the fully opened door will also swing shut when the vehicle is on even a slight incline or is blown by a gust of wind. The check rods do not provide adequate resistance to keep the door in the open position when fully extended. These are very heavy doors and could cause serious injury. My wife and I have both experienced numerous instances in which the door has started swinging shut in each of these situations. I discussed this concern with the service manager at my local Honda dealership and I reported this problem to american Honda (case # [xxx]). I compared the front door check rod mechanism in the 2012 Honda Odyssey on the dealer?s lot. The check rod on the 2012 Odyssey functioned properly, creating an appropriate level of resistance when the door was fully extended. The service manager ordered a set of 2012 Odyssey check rods, with the hope they could be installed on my 2010 Odyssey. Unfortunately, the 2012 rods did not match and could not be installed on my vehicle. American Honda has declined to take any remedial action. I strongly suspect that the defect in the check rod used in the 2010 Odyssey model led to a redesign of the check rod mechanism for subsequent vehicle years. I respectfully request that your office check into this matter and address the defect in the 2010 Odyssey check rod. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact was driving approximately between 55-65 mph. Unexpectedly, both rear interior doors ajared without assistance. The vehicle was driven to the side of the road and the defective doors were closed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The failure was related to the closure motors. The estimated repair cost was $1,000. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time. The failure mileage was 105,000.
We were driving in our 2005 Honda Odyssey, and noticed something knocking. It also sounded like someone had their window down. We pulled over to look at the vehicle. Our newborn started to cry, so my husband went to open the driver's side sliding door. Upon pulley the handle, the whole door fell back off the van. We were told the plastic rollers were defective. They cracked when we hit a pot hole and let the door slide off the track. Then the pins that are supposed to stop the door from going off the track failed. Honda said it's not covered under warranty, and they have not received enough complaints to warrant looking into the safety of this vehicle.
The sliding door of my Odyssey (touring) model will not close all the way. Similar to another complaint, the door gets close to being closed, but will not close either electronically or manually. The van is able to be driven with the sliding door open. This first happen at only 29k miles and continued to happen periodically until I took it to a Honda dealership who could fix the problem. The service person at the dealership (that was able to fix it) showed me that it was a design flaw of the "center roller" for the sliding door. This is a part located at the rear of the door attaching it to the van's body. There are two plastic round parts that act like ball bearing rollers, and they become out of place causing the door's alignment to be off. When this happens the door not to close all the way. The dealership service person said if Honda spent $8 more on making these round parts metal instead of plastic, the problem would not have occurred. The rest of the center roller part is made of metal. He said that one Odyssey a week comes to the dealership with this problem of the door not being able to close due to the center roller.
The rear hatch of my 2007 Honda Odyssey touring van suddenly fell on my 13 year old daughter as she was leaning into the cargo area of the van. The it appears that the struts designed to hold the door opened failed. The door weighs at least 50 pounds.
Sliding door don't open and close right, doors stay open at rear edge.
