1 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/04/2020

The vsa light check engine light and fuel light here and there keeps coming on I just had this vehicle for 4 years already I just had the engine oil leak fixed I changed oil every 6 months. Also had the alternator and starter changed as well as battery replaced. Is there any possibility the software on the vehicle needs to be updated?.

2 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/09/2020

I was driving 70mph on an interstate. The battery light came on. There was no immediate change in vehicle performance and there were no odors present so I continued driving for several minutes towards the next exit. About . 5mi away from the exit, the abs, fcw, ldw, and brake lights came on, the air conditioner and console turned off, and the automatic transmission disengaged. This prevented the vehicle from being able to accelerate. The entire vehicle essentially lost power. The local dealer diagnosed the issue as an oil leak in the spool valve that then destroyed the alternator and fried the battery. The manufacturer (Honda) recenty issued TSB 20-023 detailing the problem and repair procedure, but it was limited to the source of the leak, not any of the other components that were damaged. My understanding of the incident leads me to believe a fire could have broken out due to the location of the leak onto the other engine components.

3 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2013 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 02/19/2020

Car engine shut off while in motion on local street. A bad/defective front spool valve leaked oil on the alternator and the alternator went bad right way. Which cause engine to shutdown while car is in motion. Try to start the car, it won't start, neither electrical power. Its very dangerous situation, likely wasnt driving on the highway. Dealer maintenance shop advisor told me that alot Honda Odyssey have spool valve leaked out to cause the alternator goes bad & shut down the car.

5 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/06/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated while driving and the engine warning indicator illuminated, which meant that the fcw and ldw systems failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and who diagnosed that the spark plug needed to be replaced and the cylinder was leaking oil, which caused the spark plug failure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred on three different occasions. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The contact stated that the mechanic called the dealer and was informed that the 2013 models were experiencing the same failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and informed the contact that there was no recall and that the vehicle was out of warranty. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 216,000.

6 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

2014 Honda Odyssey which is experience the same issue as the 2013 Honda Odyssey where piston ring 1 -4 with leak oil and foul the spark plugs. When this occurs the engine misfires and vibrates significantly and reduces drivability. Due to the warranty extension on prior years this appears to be a known design defect for this model and engine but not for this model year. When the issue has manifested it has been when driving both times has been on a city street. Estimates for repair are $4,200.

7 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

Engine leaking oil and smoke appears when the van is on seats feel loose.

8 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

Noticed that my car was not running like it has been and then it got worse over the next day or two then before I could get it in for service the oil light began flashing. I drove the car straight to my Honda dealer and there is no external oil leak therefore it was determined that oil is leaking inside the engine and burning and that is why the smoke is coming from by tailpipe however the light indicator was a little to late because the damage is already done and now the engine has to be replaced along with my catalytic converter and no telling what else. The dealer never told me about this a lawsuit indicating that this was a problem in this make and model so I picked the vehicle up and as I tried to make it home it broke down on me in the middle of the interstate in rush hour traffic, had to tow it home. Called Honda manufacturer and my VIN number does not qualify under that class action even though it is a 2008 Odyssey. Now I have a vehicle sitting in my garage that does not run and has no resale value and it doesn't look like Honda is going to help out in any way. If you own a 2008-2013 Honda you may want to check your oil level regularly because the light indicators or not very reliable.

9 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

Purchased vehicle used from Honda dealership in April 2016 with 102,000 miles. I now have 106,000 miles and my low oil pressure light came on. Upon checking the oil level it shows the case as being empty of oil. I show no evidence of an oil leak on the engine or any tell tale signs on the garage floor or driveway. Highly concerned that the low oil pressure light comes on this late in the decline of engine oil.

10 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2004 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/25/2016

On 8/25/2016 I took my 2004 Odyssey to anderson Honda at palo alto for normal oil change. After the work was done they showed me that the oil drain plug would not torque down to specs (just spins). The oil was leaking from the oil pan. Anderson Honda's service advisor denied that they over-torqued the plug. The mileage was only 67637, the plug had been taken off and put on for only about a dozen times and it¿s the original Honda part in very good condition. Before the oil change there was nothing wrong with my car and during the last time maintenance at another Honda dealer the car was checked with everything ok. On 8/29/2016 I took my car to victory Honda at san bruno to fix the problem. The oil pan was replaced. The old oil pan showed the screw in the oil pan was damaged by the steel plug. The cause of this problem could 1 anderson Honda's technician over-torqued the plug and damaged the oil pan. But they claimed that they are Honda official dealer and they didn't over-torqued it. 2. Honda's parts or designs have defect. They should not put steel plug onto a soft metal pan directly. I think the cost of replacing damaged oil pan should be paid either by anderson Honda or Honda of America. The customer should not pay for their fault. The safety issue of this type of problem is oil leaking (harmful to our environment), engine failing on the road if damaged plug falls off. Thank you very much for investigating this issue. I do appreciate all your helps. Jianxin zhang zjx261@hotmail. Com 650-213-2064.

11 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/11/2015

I was in traffic and driving a steady 50 mph when the engine suddenly shutdown. After I realized what the situation was I placed the transmission into neutral, steered the car off the road as soon as it was safe to do and stopped. I just had the engine oil and filter replaced when this event happened 3. 7 miles from the repair shop. I suspected a problem with the oil change. After stopping I checked for oil under engine (none) and then checked the dipstick (full). I had the van towed to the shop where their personnel checked under the engine for an oil leak and then checked the dipstick as I had done. They told me to take the van to Honda. It’s been a week and Honda said I need new heads for the engine because the timing “jumped”. The oil change had no effect on this failure. So far, nobody at Honda can tell me what actually caused the timing to “jump“. The total repair is being done by Honda and is covered by the Honda’s new car warranty. I’ve never had any kind of problems with this van prior to this unexpected and sudden failure.

12 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2004 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/25/2014

Driving 2004 Odyssey (140k miles) down I-95 in richmond (from nova) and started losing power (dropping speed with increasing rpms). Bad smell and smoke out the back led me to believe it was my catalytic converter. Check engine light never came on. Found a shop that replaced the cc. While replacing they noticed lots of oil under my vehicle. Turns out it was transmission fluid. The shop topped off the transmission fluid (4 qts), let it run for a while, didn't see a leak, and I drove off the lot. I noticed the check engine light was still on so I returned to the auto shop. They were having trouble erasing the error code so the light would go off so they recommended I have it fixed when I returned home. I was on my way to a north carolina beach with no other problems encountered (albeit a check engine light still lit). Local driving at the beach at low speeds (below 40 mph) caused no issues. The following week on my way from the nc beach to nova, the tcs light was now lit (in addition to the check engine light). Within a few miles I encountered a similar situation while heading north on I-95 (as I did the week before while heading south on I-95) though not as severe (slight drop in speed with increasing rpms, bad smell with smoke out the back of the vehicle). I found out the next day about the Honda Odyssey transmission problem. Sounds like I was lucky to get 140k out of it, though not happy to hear about the lack of responsibility taken by Honda. My wife and I have been loyal Honda customers since 1984 with 4 vehicles purchased. No more.

13 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

The engine light came on while driving the vehicle. Took the vehicle to a mechanic who said the vehicle had an error code of p3400 and to immediately fill it with oil and take it to Honda dealer. Did that and discovered class action lawsuit covered repair. Jeff wyler Honda claims to have fixed the problem. Vehicle's engine light goes on again 6 months later with same error code p3400. Told by jeff wyler Honda on colerain avenue that vehicle is fine despite having lost 2 quarts of oil in less than 1000 miles. Dealer tells us that it is "perfectly normal" for Honda vehicles to use 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles, and that this is true of their entire fleet including 2014 and 2015 vehicles. Honda USA and Honda dealer are unwilling to look at vehicle any further and tell us that we will just have to put oil in it each time we fill the vehicle with gas, and that this is not an unusual occurrence. So now, we have a minivan meant to transport our family about town that we will have to fill with oil each and every time we go to use it. Dealer admits that there are no leaks, and that the van has been kept in fine running condition by us.

14 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2001 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/15/2012

I noticed that engine oil goes more than a quart low after 2500 miles. In July, before an oil change this was first noticed. But this December, it can be confirmed that oil does go low. I will continuously observe how much the oil goes low per 1000 miles. There are no visible oil leaks around the engine or the oil filter.

16 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/02/2011

Early 2011 after having some recall repairs done in the past like the brakes, leaking from the moon roof and the power steering problems, started noticing the engine light coming out for 1-2 days and then the oil light, checked oil level and refill was done but didn't notice any leaking. Subsequent services to the dealer told them about the events but didn't provided any clear report as to what is causing that. Lift gate shocks gave up after a few months and have them replaced from the dealer, again no clear explanations why the it's too soon for unexpected possible wear and tear, also in addition to telling them about the power steering seems to be causing a problem again because it's becoming heavy to turn the vehicle. This has been causing a huge problem and safety concern especially coming off from a parallel parking because it takes a lot of manuevering before I can get off from the spot and involves a great effort especially in an incline position. Recently about a couple of weeks ago, the same issue came in about the engine and the oil light showing up, oil level was low again but doesn't noticed any leaking. I did some search and I have seen a video on youtube about the error code p3400 and p3497 which is very scary and very significant to the life span of the engine. Also, recalling all these issues, I also noticed that there was a recall about the previously replaced lift gate shocks that I paid for last year. I just hope that the dealer will be responsible enough to acknowledge the vehicle flaws and prioritize the safety of the public consumer especially the Mini van as it normally has children as it's daily passenger - being the family van.

17 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2004 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/25/2010

I started leasing Honda Odyssey 2004 from Honda dealership in April 2004 for 3 years, has not any problem with vehicle in that period (warranty period). I bought after lease and all problems started. 1): radio stopped working, Honda replaced "free" because I bought additional 2 year warranty with $100 deductible, 2): back side window also stopped on open position, Honda fixed for $100 deductible, (past 4 years both side windows doesn't work), 3): (one of major problems for blue color Odyssey's this year), paint started peeling from hood, roof, under glass of both side sliding doors, around back both side windows and whole paint on tailgate, Honda covered only hood, roof and around back both side windows, when asked to paint rest of places they said don't have instruction about other spots from Honda (its was very funny, like: "doctor know better, are you dead or alive"), now Honda offers me for paint it with discounted price. 4) transmission fails, couldn't get any gear until resetting from hole top of steering will, changing trans oil didn't resolve this problem (this what mechanic told me) in Honda dealership 5) in 2011 on scheduled oil change mechanic told me to change all engine mounts and front shocks for $2500, hydraulic engine mount got leak and broke other mounts, I bought all engine mounts and front shocks for $700 and changed my self. . . . Now srs electronic control unit. . . . I guess its too many defects and problems for this car. . . . Btw I'm a first and only owner of this Odyssey and got only 96k miles on it. . . .

18 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/12/2009

Honda Odyssey 2007 defective oil drain plug Honda's drain plug is defective in that it generates permanent leakage upon its removal in the event of an oil change. Honda is acknowledging this defective condition of the drain plug, and is requiring the consumer to bear the burden of its defective product by requiring the recurring purchase of these replacement drain plugs each time the oil is changed. Again, this leaves the burden of the defective part on the consumer, in addition to enabling large amounts of oil to leak onto the environment, as well as endangering the life of one's vehicle if these drain plugs are not replaced upon each oil change. The consumer should not have to bear this burden. Honda should manufacture a safe non-defective product. Also, the consumer had to figure out why the vehicle was leaking when Honda knew all along and did not notify the consumer.

19 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/16/2009

20 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/10/2007

I was advised when I first had the oil changed (6/06) in my 2006 Honda Odyssey (purchased 10/05) that there was apparently an oil leak from the engine. I then took the van to the Honda dealer in springfield, IL. Where I purchased it, and I was told the problem was with the oil pan seal. This seal was then changed. When the oil was again changed in late December, '06, there again was an oil leak noted from the engine. After some testing, the Honda dealer first said he would have to remove the transmission to identify the source of the leak. They thought it would take about a day or so to repair. The next day, I was told he would have to order a "part" which would take about a week to receive. After complaining to Honda USA, I was told that the problem was a cracked engine block and that they would have to replace/repair the engine with a new "short block" from Honda. The dealer was only willing to let me use a Honda civic as a "loaner" for my van, but after further complaints to Honda USA, they arranged for me to get a rented van from enterprise. They have also agreed to give me a six year extended warranty for the vehicle. As of this day, I am awaiting the repair/return of my Odyssey.

21 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/06/2005

I bought a 2002 Honda Odyssey from small dealer. Come to find out that the engine oil is leaking. It had 52000 miles on it. Dealer says it is out of warranty due to mileage. I believe that Honda should fix that problem for me as it is not due to wear and tear of the vehicle. I believe the seal is defective and should be replaced free of charge. The dealer is asking $600. 00 to fix the problem. The vehicle also lunges forward when decelerating and coming to a graded stop.

This was replaced on August 8, 2001. Approx. 2 1/2 weeks after this I noticed more oil leaking from vehicle in greater quantity than the first incident. Contacted dealership and manufacturer and vehicle has been at the dealership awaiting parts since 8/31/01.
