3 Radiator problem of the 2004 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/17/2012

Auto repair shop informed me that two motor mounts were broken. Not repairing them could result in the engine dropping and pulling radiator down which would be dangerous and result in a more expensive repair. They informed me that motor mounts are not a maintenance item, like belts, for example. They should not have to be replaced in normal circumstances. They also said they have seen a lot of this exact problem in this generation Honda Odyssey. Further, the price of these motor mounts is very high and has not come down which is what they would expect given the frequency of repair and age of model. I called Honda America which told me that since my car is out of warranty there's nothing they can do.

4 Radiator problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/24/2011

Blown engine. No events leading up to the failure except for immediately before, when we noticed the engine over heating. Checked it a while later, and all the engine oil was in the radiator! will need a new engine and radiator.

5 Radiator problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/06/2010

2006 Honda Odyssey bought used w/ approx 61,000 miles and 60,000 mile extended warranty, purchased last week of July 2010, breakdown 10/6/2010. Had shake while driving and was serviced, found to have problem with transmission, transmission fluid changed and problem resolved. Car was driven part way across country, 1200 miles, in the next 10 days, all highway miles. 20 minutes after stopping for lunch, while cruising on highway @ 70 mph, car had intermittent clicking noise coming from driver's side engine compartment. No warning lights were on @ this time and temp reading was normal. My husband took car off cruise control, noise stopped, he attempted to pass another vehicle, car lost all acceleration, check engine light blinked a couple times, he slowed, started safely moving to shoulder, clicking started, check engine light came on solid, temp gauge spiked to red, caron shoulder, no power. From first clicking noise to engine failure and first warning light was approx 1 minute. Dealer found car to have cracked engine, melted radiator, blown head gasket, no coolant or oil in engine. No original source for breakdown could be found even after complete engine teardown. Head gasket was not cause of breakdown. No oil leak, had oil change @ dealer prior to our purchase of vehicle, not yet due for routine service, oil life indicator gave 50% oil life 20 miles prior to breakdown. Honda notified and not concerned. Warranty CO denied claim b/c no cause of failure found. Dealership that sold car is paying for new engine, radiator and any other repairs and will continue to seek reimbursement from warranty CO. Search of Honda forums (edmunds. Com) found many problems w/ oil consumption on 2005-2010 Honda Odysseys.

6 Radiator problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/19/2010

My 2008 Honda Odyssey was completely disabled after running over a 1 inch rock on a paved road at 30 mph. According to the Honda service department who performed the repairs, the rock was tossed up by the tire into the undercarriage, came through the fan and struck the radiator from behind, putting a hole in it and stranding us in the mojave desert in July. According to Honda corporate there was no specific defect or design flaw and the "vehicle performed as designed. " Honda corporate also says that this could be a common occurrence with this chassis design but they do not keep track of such problems in anyway and only take any sort of action to address recurring problems when forced to do so by the NHTSA.

7 Radiator problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/21/2009

I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey, only 4 years old and the dealer is telling me I need 3 engine mounts replaced, that they are a wear and tear item, doesn't sound right. I also need 2 compliance arm bushings and a radiator which was punctured needs to be replaced. I would like to know how engine mounts needs to be replaced within 4 years; there has got to be something wrong.

8 Radiator problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/25/2009

Was driving home and started having shifting problems, took it in for service the transmission had to be replaced as well as the radiator. The radiator because I was told they would not warranty the transmission with out it. $ 4,371. 08 I was never told about any issues from Honda and I never received any thing from Honda. On 8/27/10 one year later I had to replace the transmission cooler. Then on 9/17/10 they replaced the transmission again. Now the second transmission only has 34,000 miles on it and now they just replaced torque converter and it runs like a truck. The Honda dealer did all the major maintenance . We have owned four Honda's but never again. My son has a 2002 civic and it is on its second transmission. If a recall was on these Honda they never sent me anything and I purchased it new.

9 Radiator problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/04/2007

I own a 2006 Honda Odyssey (purchased July 2006). Last weekend, I noticed blue fluid (coolant) on the grill accompanied by a burnt smell and the coolant fluid was below the minimum level. Just two weeks prior, this car was taken in to the dealers for the 1 year minor tune-up. The dealers reported that a rock has punctured the radiator, so that is where the leak was coming from. I was told that this case is not covered by the warranty because it is not from the normal wear and tear. I find it unfair that due to the poor design of the grill that I have to pay a $500 deductible to get this fixed.

10 Radiator problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/28/2007

I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey ex-l with fewer than 15k miles on it. I t took it to the deal because antifreeze was leaking out of it. The dealer informed me that the antifreeze was leaking out of my radiator. The dealer attributed this to a stone hitting the radiator and causing the leak. This seems to be a design flaw in the 2006 Odyssey. This could have been a lot worse as I was able to safely pull off of the road. Had this happened at highway speed, the engine could have seize due to lack of coolant and I could have lost control of the vehicle causing a serious wreck and possible injury to me, my passengers or others. I recommend that the NHTSA take action on behalf of all consumers who own this vehicle to force a recall from Honda to fix this issue.

11 Radiator problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/25/2007

I was driving my 2005 Honda Odyssey and noticed that the car was leaking antifreeze. I took it to the dealer and they said that a rock hit the radiator and that they would need to put a new one in. It was not covered under warranty because it was caused by a rock. The dealer said that they see a lot of these cases and it should be recalled.

12 Radiator problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/20/2007

I own a 2006 Honda Odyssey ex-l. On Wednesday June 20, 2007 I noticed that my air conditioner was no longer putting out cold air. I also noticed at this time that my temp gauge was over to the hot line. I immediately shut off my engine and let it cool. Once I restarted it immediately went back to the hot position. Once I made it home I shut off the engine and noticed that the fan continued to run and the car was emitting a burning rubbery smell. I called the Honda dealership and told them about this. I asked about this being covered under warranty and the technician stated that if for some reason there was a rock in there that my warranty would not cover it but I had no concern because I thought this was rare. It was towed to the Honda dealership and they called me the next morning stating that there were rocks in my radiator and that my warranty would not cover it and it was going to cost me over $700 to get it fixed. I did some research and talked with Honda again and they said that they see this alot. They showed me my radiator and three rocks that they pulled out of it saying that these are what caused my problem. They asked if they could fix the radiator while they had the parts in stock and I said yes knowing that I need my car ASAP. I later called the dealership again to question the incident with the rocks because I talked with another mechanic and he said that this should not happened that easily. They still have the old radiator. The level of courtesy and customer service that I have received from Honda has dramatically dropped since I have been investigating this issue. This morning, Sunday July 1, 2007 I decided to do some internet research on Honda Odyssey's and this rock problem and I was amazed and appalled at how much this happens and how much Honda has just ignored this design flaw. I feel that a design flaw allowing your engine to overheat can put you at risk for a major engine fire and possibly death and Honda has chosen to ignore this.

13 Radiator problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/22/2007

Road debris or small rock came through the air dam in the lower valance on the front bumper, striking the air conditioner condenser and piercing a hole in it. This resulted in a leak of the air conditioner coolant and required replacement of the condenser unit at approximately $700. American Honda will not cover under their vehicle warranty because they claim it is due to a road hazard and not from a manufacturing defect. I respectfully disagree and believe this is a latent design defect, that from a quick internet search, appears to be occurring regularly on several Honda models. This damage is also causing the release of potentially harmful air conditioner freon into the atmosphere. Most importantly, in 30+ years of driving, I have never heard of a pebble causing such damage on a vehicle. It is unconscionable for american Honda to take the position that this is a road hazard and to direct their customers to file with their insurance carriers for relief.

15 Radiator problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/08/2007

A/c problem 6 months after purchase. We purchased a new 2006 Honda Odyssey in June 2006, and in December we started having a/c problems. It was diagnosed as having a hole in the a/c condensor which the Honda dealer stated to be caused by a rock. The van had less than 11,000 miles on it, and we purchased an extended warranty when we bought the van. Surely, the original warranty or the extended warranty should cover such a problem, but Honda said no. Being only 6 months old, we find it very frustrating to have to pay for something like this when it appears to be a design flaw by Honda. The a/c condensor is just sitting there exposed to all the elements of the road with no grill in front of it. The american Honda rep agreed to pay half as a "good will gesture". It still cost us $275 for the repair. Lots of others are having the same issue with Honda odesseys as seen on the internet. Honda should be forced to recall these vehicles and install a screen in front of the condensor to protect it, and should be forced to reimburse everyone any money spent to correct this problem.

16 Radiator problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/05/2006

- on Nov 5th, 2006 the contact's vehicle was involved in a crash . The driver was pulling to a parking space at 1- 2 mph had foot on the brakes but the engine started racing very fast and continued to move forward, striking a guard rail. The driver was wearing a seat belt. The air bags did not deploy. The weather conditions were dry. The driver was injured and hospitalized for six days. A police report was taken. The contact was able to drive the vehicle away. The bumper fell off, and the radiator had to be replaced. The dealer could not find any other problems. The contact had the body damage repaired, upon completion, as the technician drove the vehicle , the same failure happened. After further testing, the dealer diagnosed the problem as the idle air control valve needed to be replaced.

17 Radiator problem of the 1999 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/23/2005

Beginning in 2000, when the car was less than one year old, we have experienced major equipment failures. First, the egr valve malfunctioned; it was eventually repaired at Honda's expense. Next, one of the motors for the side power doors failed. That cost approximately $800 to repair. Then, the transmission failed, and Honda eventually covered the full costs under an extended warranty. For at least four years, we were plagued with an erratic "check engine" light, and sometimes the computer code was inadequate to direct a repair. In 2003 the radiator rotted out, and the replacement/repair cost us $800. In 2004 the catalytic convertor failed, and that replacement/repair cost us $1400. On July 22, 2005, the rear a/c vents failed to cool, and I called for an appointment at our local dealer to have that checked and repaired. The repair was scheduled for July 25, 2005. When I was driving the car on July 23 with the a/c turned on (the front vents continued to cool), the engine died while I was driving at a speed of 45 mph on a local highway. I managed to pull off into a nearby parking lot, and I was able to restart the car after turning off the a/c. It is now at the dealer's shop, and the labor costs alone to determine the cause of the a/c failure will cost more than $350. After inspecting the system for more than three hours July 25, the dealer's mechanic still could not locate the source of the problem. Needless to say, I hate this car! I have had many more problems than I ever expected, and the responses from american Honda and from the local dealer have been disappointing. Neither establishment knows how to relate successfully to customers. This car has been a real lemon, and I am struggling with my decision about what to buy to replace it. Although Honda has a good reputation, I have not found this car to be reliable. In fact, it is a major source of stress in my life, causing me to gnash my teeth when I am driving it, for I have no confidence in it at all.
