I went in to a huggins Honda, a local dealer in hurst, TX to service a recalled brake master cylinder replacement in my 2006 Odyssey exl with 80,000 miles, while at the van was at the dealership, the service manager called me to notify me that they noticed that two motor mounts also need to be replaced. The front and side motor mount can be replaced for about $1220 and $216 + tax respectively. He inidcated that this is very common on Honda Odyssey vans and not part of a recall or regular maintenance. I asked if it was "very" common in Honda vans and not part of normal maintenance, why is it not fix for free since it seem uncommon for motor mount to go bad that early in the vehicle's life? he indicated that he did not have the authority to fix it free on the vehicle but wanted to let me know that it does need to be fixed. I did a search on the internet and found that pre-mature motor mount failer is a common issue with Honda Odyssey vans dating back to early 2000 models. If this is a common issue, why did Honda not address the issue with the newer models and why not fix the issue for Odyssey owners? I think that Honda should fix the issue with current owners and address the issue with newer models.

The contact owns 2003 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance. The diagnostic test indicated that the motor mounts were coming apart and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but they refused to offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 45,000.
Our 2006 Honda Odyssey experienced a loss of engine power while my wife was driving home from work. She managed to make it home, but between the power loss and the noise starting to come from under the hood, she was nervous. We had the vehicle towed to a gentile Honda in racine WI. They reported that the spark plug was pulled out of the cylinder head when the coil-pack "popped". I believe the cause of the problem was a material failure in the cylinder head which caused the spark plug threads to fail, which resulted in the coil-pack shorting to ground on the head, and causing an over-current condition through the coil which caused the coil-pack to explode. Gentile Honda wants to do a machinist repair on the cylinder head while it's still on the engine ($730. 42). North american Honda wants to replace the cylinder with some monetary assistance for a total of $1500. No action has been taken at this time to correct the issue. I feel this is a material defect caused by Honda's part vendor. Gentile Honda claims the coil-pack pulled the plug out of the aluminum head. I cannot understand how this could happen as the tensile/shear strength of the plastic coil-pack is far less than the tensile/shear strength of the aluminum alloy head. The atomized fuel being added to the cylinder while the engine was running could have resulted in an engine compartment fire by being ignited as it was blown out of the combustion chamber through the spark plug hole.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Odyssey. The contact was driving 40 mph when the vehicle independently switched into low gear and attempted to stop without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who ran diagnostics, but could not duplicate the failure. They also inspected the brakes and transmission, but the diagnostics did not generate any failure codes. The manufacturer was contacted who stated that they corresponded with the dealer, but could not find a problem with the vehicle, and could not assist. The failure mileage was 36,138 and the current mileage was 41,000.

In cold weather, with 1100 mi. On vehicle, drove 10 miles and came to a stop. Vehicle revved at 1500 rpms while in drive with foot on brake, put in to neutral and it revved to 5000-6000 rpms with foot on brake. Turned off and on, vehicle continued to rev at 5000-6000 rpms with foot on brake. Turned off and on again, vehicle back to normal. Problem has not happened again. Brought to dealer, dealer did basic testing, could not find any problems. "check engine" light did not come on, but dealer checked for stored codes, nothing found. Dealer could not replicate the problem, said vehicle is safe to drive. Dealer suggested foot was on gas pedal, or floor mat was on gas pedal. However, foot was on brake, and floor mat was secured to floor. We experienced the same issue multiple times with a 2001 Odyssey, thought problem would have been fixed with this new model. Dealer couldn't replicate the issue with the 2001 Odyssey either. The consequence is a safety issue, as vehicle could hit something in front of it if brake is not applied firmly when trying to come to a stop.

1. Failure occurred must likely through defective parts in 2003-2005 Honda Odyssey's. 2. Front and side engine mounts no longer connected. 3. Failure has not yet been replaced. Failure of the mounts leaves the possibility of engine dropping out. This is a common problem with Odyssey's of this year. Not near car to obtain VIN#.
Broken motor mount.
We have a 2010 Honda Odyssey. I was looking ahead in traffic and notice the car in front of me had slam their brakes. I thought I had enough distances to stop, but my brakes locked up and I couldn't maneuver the steering wheel. I felt like I kept sliding instead of just stopping. The road conditions were dry and at dusk time during the day. The lady from the car that I barely hit, got out of her car and asked me how new was my vehicle. I told her that we had just got it. She said when I looked back to see you, you had enough room to stop but it looked like you kept sliding. She thought I should go and get my brakes checked. So I did at the same Honda dealership and they said my brakes were find. I don't think that my brakes are fine. I had a 2004 Odyssey and I felt safer with those brakes than I do with this brand new vehicle. One other thing about my vehicle since I am on here. We had taken a long trip just after we had bought the vehicle. A warning light came own. My husband looked in the manual it was in relation to emissions. It was the malfunction indicator lamp. We had called the dealership and they told us 2 things. Take it in to get it looked at the nearest Honda dealership and are we tightening our gas tank cap. So we took it to a dealership. They told us nothing was wrong. During our whole trip back we made sure our gas tank cap was tighten. To this vary day they say nothing is wrong, but the light comes and goes. They can't tell us what is wrong with it that there is nothing wrong. So I am on here concern about my family and I safety.
2005 Honda Odyssey has a problem with the engine mounts. The dealer informed the consumer of the risk involved if the engine mounts were not replaced.

My husband and I purchased a brand new Odyssey van in June 2006. Absolutely love the van. We have had no problems until we realized our air conditioner wasn't working recently in may 2008. Our van only has 24,000 miles on it. I called fairfield performance Honda service and was told if it is a rock that damaged the condenser it is not covered. I said a rock and she replied yes rocks can damage the condenser. My husband and I never heard such thing. Without Honda even looking at my van they already knew exactly what was wrong. So that day I got a phone call from service and sure enough they said a rock has damaged your condenser and it would not be covered because that is consider road debris and it will cost you 800. 00. The service person said they see this every week and then he said I mean once a month so I was curious and got on the internet to see if anybody else have had the same problem and sure enough hundreds complaints with the same problem. I contacted Honda America corp and they said sorry it is not covered because it is road debris damage. It?s not my fault and thousands of other consumers fault that they poorly designed the Honda Odysseys and Honda accords. I noticed on the new 2008 vans and cars they have a protection on the front now. But that?s not fair for all the people who have purchased a van or car 2007 or earlier. I think that they should have a recall on this matter and fix the problem. I didn't pay $30,000. 00 for a van to have this problem. They need to put some kind of protection on the van so it doesn't happen again. I just want to let all other consumers beware of this so they don?t make the same mistake we did. I am contacting the consumer report, better business bureau all news media and papers until this problem is taking care of. Thank you, lisa.
1. Normal driving around town and freeway. 2. Engine pinging, every time vehicle is driven. Long term effect (engine damage). 3. Honda has tried to fix this issue 5 times with no resolve. Tech line states they are aware of the problem but no known resolution at this time. The most recent letter from Honda was nothing is wrong even though the dealer states the pinging is not normal.
I took my 2001 Honda Odyssey Mini van to kuhn Honda in tampa, FL for routine maintenance and was told by the service dept that the passenger's side and front engine mounts were broken and needed to be replaced. The van had only 51,880 miles on it. I was told that the service department had replaced the same mounts on numerous other Odyssey van,s and even the one next to it in the shop needed them. The service manager indicated that Honda did not cover this repair under any warranty extension despite what seemed to me to be a clearly defective part that could have grave safety consequences. Honda should issue a recall and replace these engine mounts as their failure can cause hesitation during acceleration and other drive-train related problems.

The contact owns a 2002 Honda Odyssey. While driving 40 mph the vehicle would jerk. The dealer replaced two broken motor mounts. The failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.
The contact owns a 1998 Honda Odyssey. Approximately an hour after parking the vehicle he noticed flames and smoke coming from under the hood. The fire department was notified but was unable to determine the cause of the fire. The dealer has not inspected the vehicle to determine the cause of the fire. The current and failure mileages were 164,000. Updated 02-01-08. The consumer stated the representative made a comment that the fire may have had something to do with the battery cables. Updated.

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. While approaching a stop, the engine revved and the contact had to depress the brake pedal extremely hard to prevent a crash. The failure occurred intermittently. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. In early March of 2008, two days after the contact left the dealer, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000 and current mileage was 34,000. Updated 04/04/08. The consumer had to apply extreme pressure on the brake to prevent the vehicle from moving forward. Updated.
While making a hard right hand turn, van had a complete loss of power. Engine, lights, power steering and power brakes all died instantly. Managed to stop the van without hitting anything, but if someone had been coming the other way, no way an accident wouldn't have happened. Put car in park, turned key and it restarted and drove fine. Called dealer and took it in for them to look at it. There were approx. 10 error codes recorded. They kept van for four hours, ended up saying it was a dead battery and they replaced it and sent me on my way. They said paperwork has to be sent through warranty and will send me a copy when it comes back. Explanation doesn't fit situation.
1) events leading up to the failure, there were no indications prior to the incident. (2) failure and its consequences, and as soon car was put in park and turned off, white smoke came out from under the hood, turning to black smoke and fire within one minute. Whole engine, dash and front of car was destroyed in the fire. (3) what was done to correct the failure; I. E, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available) car was totaled.
The contact stated there was vibration in the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealership five times, and they were unable to correct the problem. The manufacturer was contacted. The dealership was waiting for the parts to arrive that may or may not correct the problem.
2005 Honda Odyssey experiencing problems with air bag warning light illuminating, engine racing and shutting off. There are also problems with door equipment not locking or unlocking, as well as problems with the accelerator. The consumer experienced sudden acceleration. The vehicle's transmission locked in park. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. The consumer has experienced three electrical problems associated with the throttle in addition to electrical problems with the sliding door (driver's side), power locks and air bag sensor.
My 2002 Honda Odyssey's engine has shut off many times while I am driving. Most often at the same spot after making a left turn, heading downhill with power lines going across the street from the above. There is no warning of the engine just shutting down. It restarts as soon as I pull over and start the engine again. It started after the transmission died on me, and the dealer replaced it. Took the car to the dealer and they say everything is ok.
Forwarded from cpsc - letter from congressman on behalf of constituent re a problem with his 2005 Honda Odyssey which was covered in a 2006 "technical service bulletin" (TSB) which was available to dealers but not to the general public. The consumer stated the motor mount broke and it would cost $880 plus to fix it. The consumer stated he experienced a problem with the van, the night he purchased it, but thought nothing of it. Now, he has since discovered, it was the broken motor mount all along.
After getting our 30000 miles maintenance completed which included (but not limited to) an oil change and replacement of the transmission fluid, we started noticing a hesitation in the car when the accelerator was depressed. When the transmission fluid was replaced, it took longer than expected thus I assumed that there may have been a problem with the transmission. We took it back to the service center to have them assess the situation and they found that two of the engine mounts were broken. The car only has 34k miles on it. It seems premature that something like this would happen, therefore, I feel it necessary to bring this to your attention to address the safety of this part (the engine mounts).
Takes 3 tries to start car(10-15 seconds crank each time). Engine turns over but does not want to start. After 3rd try, engine starts but is very rough for about 15-20 seconds. I have also noticed that when the engine is cold and it starts on first time, it idles roughly like the engine is misfiring. Car is brand new.
On 02/10/03 while merging onto the highway, the engine lost power and would not accelerate. The dealer stated the speed sensor had failed.
Nar 03/03/2003. The consumer stated while driving at any speed, the vehicle suddenly stopped and all power was lost. The consumer stated everytime this happened, the vehicle would start right up with no problem.
