2010 Odyssey w/ about 159k miles. Engine started misfiring. There was a recall on this, but Honda is saying it expired, and I am not eligible for cost coverage, and the repairs only have a 50% chance of fixing the issue. I bought the car used in 2016, and they say the recall expired after make year. I was driving my car to work and it lost the ability to accelerate and white smoke was coming out exhaust. And the belt snapped and it has been parked since early February.
The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. While driving 60 mph, the brake, abs, maintenance, check engine, and battery warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle stalled and the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a severe oil leak, slipping transmission, and alternator failure. The contact was informed by an independent mechanic that the oil failure caused the drive belts to slip, which caused a failure in the alternator recharging the battery as intended. The contact stated that the battery needed to be replaced due to the oil leak. The contact attempted to contact (stockton Honda, 2002 e hammer ln, stockton, CA 95210, (844) 237-1845), but was unsuccessful. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 279,000.

Turning onto highway, heard a loud bang, checked my dash, no warning lights illuminated, thought it was a rock or road debris that hit the vehicle. Continued toward our destination at 55 mph, about a mile down the road the abs lighted up, then the vsa, then the tpms, then the seatbelt light, then the radio went out, the gauges were next, finally the battery light came on, I let the vehicle come to a halt using very little brakes. As soon as I stopped the engine died and no lights would come on, had to manually unlock and manually open the door. Called the Honda dealership, said it would be towed in that day 24 sept 2016, there was no accident, but for this to happen with no warning whatsoever, is of concern to me. I don't know if this is a hardware or software glitch, we had the vehicle in for maintenance just this past week, timing belt, rear brakes, oil change. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you for considering this statement.

There was a check engine light and upon inspection, Honda notified me that the piston ring replacement was necessary and that Honda extended the warranty to 100k miles. The problem was the timing belt and few other parts needed to be replaced because they would get damaged during this warranty repair. Honda refused to pay for the timing belt replacement and made me pay almost $800. 00 in parts and labor. 2. My car stared to vibrate every time I braked from about 15k miles. I took it in and instead of making the proper repairs the service center had the front rotors re-surfaced 3 times. The problem kept on coming back because the front rotors are undersized for the vehicle. I had to buy my own front rotors from a generic maker along with pads to correct the problem. It cost me $350 for parts and $200 at Honda service center to repair it properly. 3. There's a popping sound when I make turns. I've addressed it and no one will fix it. I don't think its normal that clicking and popping sound comes while steering.

Alternator bracket (stay) has broken for no apparent reason. No work performed on engine near bracket with the exception of a new serpentine belt. Multiple complaints from several owners of 2002 to 2004 Honda Odyssey, regarding reoccurring break. Some cases the part has broken numerous times. This is a poorly manufactured part and Honda motor company needs to recall all vehicles, and replace with restructured part. The bracket breaking causes alternator failure, which causes the engine to shutdown. If this happens in a traffic situation, both driver and passengers could be at risk of causing an accident.

Tl-the contact owns a 2002 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the instrument panel lights started to flicker. The contact coasted over to the side of the road look under the hood of the vehicle and notice that the alternator was detached, the belt was laying to the side of the road and the main screw broke from the alternator. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 206,000. Aw.
On June 15, 2015 my 2005 Honda Odyssey airbag system light came on and stayed until now, I was scared due to airbag might blown out or causing any trouble while vehicle in use or worst something happen. I took my vehicle to Honda dealer on June 16, and I was told no recalls. They did some diagnose and I was told it was the seat belt buckle and wiring on driver side, the buckle was replace (free of charge), but the wiring cost $550 to have it fix. I refused the service due to no sense and not enough evidence to prove the issue. I did some research and found same issue on same vehicle that has airbag system lights on dashboard. I do believe that the dealer should address this as recall especially if the vehicle never been in accident. Please let me know if there is anything you can do to address this issue. Thanks.

Crank shaft pulley separated from hub and caused sudden & total loss of power steering while in motion.
While driving on !-25 south, the car started to choke and almost completely stalled while on the left lane. Tried to merge right and slow down the car. The brakes would not respond. The car was still choked and then gives in and goes again. Took the first exit and continues to press on the brakes to slow down the car. It continued on for a while before reaching a complete stop. After stopping, checked the engine for leaks or smoke and there was nothing. I started the car again and it seem to start fine. Then there was some kind of light noise. I drove it to just the other side of the highway where where there were some stores. Took it to the dealer that just performed preventive timing belt replacement. Said that they found broken/seized spark plug in cylinder 2. The work was done at 76000. Current miles is 77990. The issue seem to be happening to 2005 Honda Odyssey.
The contact owns a 2009 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the serpentine belt fractured and the engine stalled without warning. The failure occurred on two occasions. The vehicle was towed to the dealer on two occasions. The technician diagnosed on the second occasion that the serpentine belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,852.

We purchased Honda Odyssey new in 2006. I noticed steering issues almost immediately and reported it during routine service. Even after recall, issue continues. Noticed a fluid leak & mentioned it during service- was told there was a broken seal that was causing van to leak transmission fluid & "fixed" for $1500. After this fluid continued to leak, made an appointment to take van back. While driving on highway 2 days before scheduled appointment, lights on dash came on and van lost power steering while on the highway going 55 mph. Able to get off the highway without power steering. Towed to the Honda dealer and told the broken seal was actually not the problem for the transmission fluid leak - I need a new transmission. Lost steering due to a belt that had broken due to constant leaking fluid on it. So disappointed with Honda. Husband had made me brand loyal now I'm anti-Honda. Sounds like my issues are very common in this model.

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle began to shudder and vibrate violently accompanied by the illumination of the check engine warning light. The contact shut the engine off and when restarted, the failure recurred. The contact later noticed a reduction in power. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who stated that, the timing belt and motor mounts would need replacing. Additionally, the dealer suggested having a tune-up performed, as there were several misfire codes generated when diagnosed. The dealer continued to diagnosis the failure as the cylinder one coil having melted into the cylinder. As a result, the dealer was unable to remove the coil and spark plug from the vehicle. The dealer stated that the failure was caused by the spark plug becoming loose and fuel leaking into the cylinder head chamber. The manufacture was alerted of the failure but offered no resolution. The contact was concerned of the safety risk involved with the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 96,000.

I was taking care of my timing belt change at dealer and I mentioned my vehicle vibrating a lot lately and I was told that they found front and rear motor mounts broken which is unusual for family van which has only 71000 miles and driven very carefully. Cost of repair is about 2000 dollars and I saw many complaints online when I searched about it.
While turning into a parking space and applying my brakes, the engine revved, brakes stopped responding and the vehicle propelled forward, resulting in the vehicle jumping a median and ramming into a tree at which point the airbags deployed and engine cut-off. This left me with burns on the skin of my arms and neck area. I have owned and driven this van for six years and am certain that I was applying the brake. The vehicle had to be towed as the driver side seatbelt was left inoperable. We were told by our dealership that the side air bag had deployed within the column, but did not enter the cabin as it was not visible and was caught within the seat belt pillar.
While traveling on flat, level surface streets at roughly 40mph, car would spontaneously downshift (to 1st gear?) causing the vehicle to slow very quickly/lots of drag (locking up seatbelts) as if the brakes were applied quickly. The vehicle will then reshift back into a higher gear with little to no resistance again. This may happen 1-4 times within a 60 second period. Pulling the car over, turning off and turning on again seems to fix issue. Shifting into second gear, seemed to fix issue. Shifting into neutral, power cycling car seemed to fix issue. Over the last 6 months or so, this has happened ~2x month.
Transmission failed 3 weeks after a botched timing belt work by Honda dealer. Required replacing 3 valves and reconditioning of engine head.
Our 2004 Odyssey went in for routine maintenance today and the technician reported both a front and a rear motor mount was bad. The vehicle has less than 80,000 miles and is used for hauling kids and getting groceries, not extreme driving and has never been in an accident. The service representative said this is a safety problem because it can cause excessive vibration, damage the transmission, and cause hoses and wires to come lose. This is an unacceptable manufacturing defect. The expected life of such an essential part cannot possibly be less than 150,000 miles. It is not a routine maintenance problem, it is not a consumable part like brakes and hoses, and it's not a moving part like the transmission or a pulley. I would expect the transmission or engine to fail long before the parts holding the van together to start failing, especially the mounts holding the engine. . Read more...

Driving on 2 lane highway with my 3 kids in the van. The battery light comes on and I hear a few brief clunks from engine area. Then I realize I have no power steering so I stop quickly at a safe spot. I look at the engine and see the accessory belt that drives power steering pump, alternator, and a/c is loose. I see that the outer ring on the crankshaft pulley is missing and only see rubber on its outside. It's over 100 deg. F outside and we're 10 miles from anything. I call a few towing companies and find one that can show up within an hour. We wait and also get a hold of a friend to pick us up after the tow truck shows up. They tow it to our local Honda dealer. The dealer replaces the crankshaft pulley and drive belt. Towing was $153. 40 and repair at dealer was $349. 56. Losing power steering on narrow two lane highway going 55 mph is unsafe and the crankshaft pulley should not fail even at 111k miles. I have owned the van since new and have all proper maintenance done (preventatively replaced accessory belt before and timing belt and water pump).
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. While the contact was driving approximately 25 mph, the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel until the engine was turned off. In addition, the engine revved and the engine power was extremely low. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the timing belt jumped time and the head gasket valves were bent. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The failure mileage was 149,247.
The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that when she applied the accelerator pedal the vehicle shut off. The dealer was contacted and advised her that the timing belt broke and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The current and failure mileages were approximately 100,557.
The top bracket holding the alternator to the engine block failed again for the third time while my wife was driving the van. As a result of the failure of the top bracket, the stress on the main serpentine belt caused the bolt holding the alternator in place to snap off at the engine block. This caused the alternator to become loose and caused a burning smell to come into the cabin of the vehicle. The alternator loose and un-attached poses a potential catastrophic failure with the pully system and the power steering which may cause an accident. I reported the previous incident of the same problem on October 25th, 2010. My concern is that this is a recurring problem that Honda is aware of and not correcting with a recall and addition of a re engineered and strengthened top alternator bracket. I am also very concerned that failure of this part/system while my wife and children are driving the van will cause an accident and injury or death to my family. I have called Honda and their solution or recommendation is to replace the part and use proper torque specifications. This has not worked 2 times so far and my mechanic tried to weld and additional piece of metal to the oem bracket to make the bracket stronger, and this did not work.

Own 2003 Honda Odyssey with 107,000 miles. Just had timing belt replaced at dealership, full inspection, changed transmission fluid. Only two weeks later transmission failed on i4 on way to orlando with family. A harrowing experience.
Engine failure at 1700 miles. Front and rear camshafts seized, causing vehicle to be disabled. Fortunately I was on a secondary road with little traffic and just able to get off highway. Replaced cylinder head assemblies, sprockets, belts, gaskets, etc. Old parts retained by dealer. We called Honda America customer service 1-800-999-1009 and spoke to a gentleman named david, who was not helpful and would not transfer us to anyone with any authority. The dealer told us Honda America was aware of the problem and it has happened to other 3. 5 l engines. Fortunately no one apparently has been disabled in heavy traffic and killed by loss of control.
While driving in heavy raining conditions or flow of water pool, on roadway or hwy, vehicle wants to shut off displaying no charging, like I have no power for a few seconds. Twice this occurred on hwy speed 70+ or 25-30 +, on roadway with heavy rain and flow of water pool splash during turn vehicle shut off and power up within approximately 3-5 seconds. I was able to move over to the off road medium and regain engine power. This has happen numerous times in the course of 2 yrs. Bringing vehicle to Honda dealership which they cant repeat complaint even with hosing engine belt with water, though the tech stated many customers have reported this during raining conditions. Note no power steering due to this event. Ret nypd.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) my car is 2004 Honda Odyssey van. When service dept. Of Honda dealership at dublin, CA replaced my timing belt, they found out that two front engine mounts have been already broken. They told me that if I don't replace the broken engine mounts now ,the third engine mount on the back will be broken soon and it will damage your automatic transmission system. The estimated cost was $700 to fix the two engine mounts. I had to replace the parts to avoid danger and more fixing cost in the future. My wife and I have driven several different cars and had never that kind of problem before - broken engine mounts. When I researched internet, I found out that Honda Odyssey van owners have complained about same problem that I have now and it costs Honda Odyssey van owner $650 to $1,000 to fix the problem. Could you please investigate this problem - broken engine mount in Honda Odyssey van? [xxx].
2010 Honda Odyssey engine defect that causes it to fail and cease operation while driving having the driver lose the ability to fully control the vehicle. Defect is in the oil supply to the overhead camshaft causing it to seize and breaking the timing belt. Much upper end engine damage.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the auto tensioner was faulty on his vehicle. Whenever it rains, the undercarriage of the vehicle and the driver belt become wet, which causes the auto tensioner not to pull the slack out of the belt. As a result, the power steering fails and the battery stops charging. The dealer stated that there were no recalls for this failure and advised the contact to call the Honda manufacturer. He took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that they could not check the auto tensioner because they could not locate it under the vehicle. The contact had previously taken his vehicle to another mechanic, who was able to locate the auto tensioner. The failure mileage was 52,000.
(2001 Odyssey-one owner)-tcs and check engine light came on while driving at 35 mph at 72,000 miles/7 yrs & 5 months on the road. Van stalled/hard shifting and was driven to nearby auto repair shop. Diagnosis was transmission failure. Towed to the Honda dealership. Honda replaced the transmission under warranty, however suggested replacing the timing belt and water pump as well. Power steering cable also found to be corroded. $850 total. Tcs and check engine light came on again on 9-2011 with 102,000 miles with some hesitation and a grinding noise heard. Diagnoses was transmission again (po-740 code ). Called Honda dealership who said it was about $4000 for a "Honda" replacement transmission, or the dealer could do it themselves for about $2600.

The contact owns a 2002 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the timing belt tensioner was recalled and replaced under warranty at 18,334 miles in January of 2005. While driving 25 mph, the tensioner failed and the vehicle stopped. A state trooper was notified and the vehicle was towed to the shop. The contact paid for the tensioner to be replaced the second time because it was not covered by the warranty. He feels that this is a safety issue because a serious crash could have occurred due to the tensioner failing. The current and failure mileages were 80,095. Updated 11/25/08 updated 11/26/08.
The contact owns a 2002 Honda Odyssey. The independent dealer stated that the vehicle was in very good condition at the time of purchase. The contact stated that the vehicle began pulling to the left. The tires were replaced and an alignment was performed. She also observed a massive oil leak coming from the vehicle. The dealer stated that nothing could be done because she was outside of the 30-day used car warranty. An independent mechanic discovered that the vehicle was involved in a previous crash, in which the crankshaft was sealed as well as the origin of the massive oil leak. The mechanic found that the sealant previously used on the crankshaft and the tires were beginning to loosen. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were less than 105,000. Updated 12/15/08 the vehicle needed a new crank seal, water pump and timing belt. Updated 12/16/08.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. While driving 30 mph, the contact heard a noise coming from the engine compartment. There was a loss of power steering. There were no warning indicators prior to the failure. The vehicle had to be stopped in the middle of the road and towed to the dealer. The dealer stated that the belt failed due to a harmonic balancer and they made the repair. The current and failure mileages were 3,200.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. While driving 5 mph in the rain, another vehicle splashed a large amount of water underneath the contact's vehicle. He heard a loud thumping sound and 30 seconds later the battery indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. All of the warning lights then simultaneously illuminated and the vehicle completely shut off. The vehicle was towed and the mechanic stated that the harmonic balancer fell from the engine. The current and failure mileages were 37,000. Updated 01-14-08. The consumer stated the harmonic balancer came apart dislodging the bottom pulley shaft which threw off the serpentine belt. Updated 12/12/07.
2006 Honda Odyssey. Consumer writes in regards to defective part in rear motor mounts the consumer stated Honda was aware of the problem. Instead of correcting the problem they were passing the cost to the consumer. The consumer stated he started complaining about the vibration problem in July 2007. Despiteseveral trips to the dealership, without fully getting the problem resolved the rear motor mounts were never looked at until the van was out of warranty. The consumer was then informed it would cost $1000 to repair a problem that Honda was well aware of. The consumer also stated he was charged $26. 00 to un-twist the passenger side seat belt. The dealer stated seat belt don't twist by themselves. Two weeks later, after limited use of the set belt, it twisted again. The power steering pump was replaced. Updated 10/04/11.
At 2,666 miles on the odometer, my Honda Odyssey exl, purchased on 2/28/2007, suffered catastrophic engine failure in the middle of an intersection. While the service department is unclear on the root cause of the problem, they found the front cam shaft frozen in the cylinder head with the speculation that there was a casting head problem with debris inside the valve assembly. All fluids were at recommended levels. A partial list of repairs: - front head assembly and gasket replaced - rear head gasket replaced. - timing belt and tensioner replaced. - drive belt idler tensioner replaced. - coolant system gasket replaced. - front engine seals replaced. - outer head assembly replaced. How no injury or accident occurred while my car died in the middle of a busy intersection, is just my good fortune. My bad fortune is having to navigate a rude and unaccountable corporate "service" department and live with the legacy of a major manufacturing defect.
