1) no events leading up to the failure 2) air conditioner simply stops blowing cold air 3) recharge. Didn't fix. Dealership service department telling me that a rock hit the air conditioner condenser and it needs to be replaced for $1200. Many complaints of the same thing happening to other customers.
Ac unit stops working. Ac clutch and condenser is damaged.

The air conditioning began blowing warm air on my 2005 Honda Odyssey ex-l last fall. I had the local Honda dealer perform an inspection, and he stated that I had a hole in my air conditioning condenser that must have been due to a rock. I believe this problem is a design problem, which Honda will not admit to or repair at their cost. The 2005 Odyssey has little protection against road debris from their new grill designs. Honda should recall these cars and provide protective shielding.
A/c on my 2007 Honda Odyssey stopped working suddenly. When to dealer they said condenser has a hole and rock might have hit the car. I have a warranty and also taken an extended warranty but dealer said its not covered. What I found from googling this is it looks more like a design flaw and so many people has reported this issue. Request you to look into this issue as soon as possible. If its a design issue it warrants to be taken care of by Honda rather than making customer pay for this for no fault of theirs.

I was told by the service department that a rock flew up from underneath the minivan, hit the compressor punctured it and knocked out the air conditioning on the 2007 Honda Odyssey. Apparently this is an ongoing defect and problem with Honda.
Honda Odyssey 2007 model - a/c compressor broken because of a hole made by a rock (as stated by Honda dealer in diagnosis). This has been the most common cause of a/cs failing in Honda Odyssey models of year 2007 and prior. This is a design flaw as the compressor is not sufficiently protected from outside debris hitting it. To emphasize that this indeed is a design flaw, the 2008 Odyssey and later model now come with a protective mesh covering the condenser, to avoid this problem. But no recall has been issued so far for this defect. I request you to investigate this issue and if found true, Honda should fix this defect free of charge for all 2007 Odysseys and prior models with this flaw.
The a/c unit should not fail in a 4 year old car that is hardly used. We still have not repaired it because it costs around 1,000. 00.
I have a 2007 model Honda Odyssey van. On December 2008 I run over a road debris, last week 6/15/10 my van ac stopped working. I went to Honda service center, they are telling my van condenser is damaged due, even though it is under warranty. They don't cove the this. It seems this is a common problem in Honda vans.
Rock popped up and punctured the a/c condenser which resulted in the a/c going out due to freon leaking out. This is a very common problem on the Odyssey and Honda should be held responsible in correcting the defect. I have to have the compressor replaced and recharged which will cost 700. 00. I have the part ordered but have to go without air for a week until it comes in and I live in florida so it is not fun having kids and no air this time of year.
2007 Honda Odyssey ex ac compressor had to be replaced after road debris (a small rock) punctured it. The car has less than 40,000 miles and is only driven on main city roads. The total cost of this repair, which was not covered under the warranty was over $800 including towing. I have looked on the internet and it seems that many people have had this problem which is never covered by the warranty - even though there seems to be a flaw in the design. The claims are that the ac compressor is not properly protected and is in the front of the vehicle engine where it is more likely to be exposed to normal road debris.
An object, most likely road debris like rocks or pebbles, impacted the a/c condenser causing the a/c to leak rendering the system inoperable. Due to Honda's design of the front bumper, the a/c condenser is completely exposed to debris. In order to fix the problem the condenser must be replaced which would cost an estimated bill of close to $1000 in parts and labor. Even after the fix, the condenser still remains exposed and the likelihood of this event happening again remains high due to the design of the front bumper. This problem was obviously fixed by Honda in the 2008 year by installing a "honeycomb" type grille to cover this area to reduce the chance of debris impacting the condenser.
A/c condenser punctured by road debris for third time in 5 years. Design flaw; condenser has no protection behind grill. Expensive, non-warrantied item and repair!.
2002 Honda Odyssey was fourteen hours from home and getting ready to leave when the fan blade flew off and through the radiator. Thankful it was cold outside and was trying to run the heat so I noticed it was pegged on hot and pulled over before major engine damage. Heard of this problem quit a few times. .

After driving my 2007 Honda Odyssey for 30 minutes, the right rear compartment and cup holder by the 3rd row seats heat up. The temperature heats up to 122 degrees inside the compartment, and bottom of the cup holder up to 110 degrees. This occurs every time after driving 30 minutes or more, regardless whether the air conditioner, and heaters are on or off. This can easily burn a person's skin, especially for younger children.

I own a 2005 Honda Odyssey. . . I had a full failure in the a/c clutch or compressor system. I have seen an enormous amount of customer complaints at how Honda has denied responsibility for a design defect and calls the usual break down as a rock -->where other reputable businesses (goodyear) call it a basic failure. I have never owned a vehicle that is only 4 yrs old -- bought 2 yrs used -- that has a full a/c system failure of this type -- unusual and uncalled for. . . Additionally parts and equipment are understocked or unavailable --> repairs will cost me $1600 in parts and additional $400 for repairs. . Ridiculous on a 4 yr old car. . . And uncalled for at its current age. No rough driving -- no rough usage -- family car used for family travel only. . . Now out of commission for nearly a week while awaiting parts. . . On a common problem as this parts should be more readily available but due to the lack of acknowledgment by the Honda corp. . . We have a shortage on the market that they are profiting from at a probable enormous rate.
Air conditioning failed at 51,900 miles. Debris poked a hole in the condenser. $1000 to fix. Not under warranty. It could happen again so I traded it in for a 2009 model!.
I own a 2006 Odyssey and air conditioning condenser failed " due small rock puncturing hole". Internet search showed just how common this problem is with the Odyssey. This problem is not covered under warranty because they state it is an "act of nature". I was told I could try to have it covered under my car insurance just like a rock hits a windshield and it gets replaced. ( why should the insurance industry pay for what is obviously a design flaw!) the advertisement of low cost of ownership is false, because just this replacement is going to cost $750 in less than 3 years of ownership.
2005 Honda Odyssey a/c condenser failure.
A/c unit failed from a pebble striking the condenser while driving down the interstate. $1000 to repair, dealer was aware of the problem before even looking at the unit. Apparently it's a frequent occurrence for these models.
A/c condenser went out due to "rock hitting it".
Hole in air conditioning condenser.
I parked my 2007 Honda Odyssey in my driveway after running errands - driving approximately 10 miles. I heard a hissing noise coming from the front of the car. I immediately brought the car into the dealer and found out the noise was freon escaping from the compressor (air conditioner). They 'think' a small rock may have penetrated the condenser although no rock was found. This cost to replace this part is $725 and is not covered under the warranty.
I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey and the ac suddenly stop blowing cold air. I later found out that the condenser was damaged by the rock hitting it while driving on a highway. I noticed that there are a lot of people who own an Odyssey also experience a similar problem. This is consider as a design problem from Honda not having any protection to the condenser as rocks can hit the condenser from the highway and damage it. This cost me almost $800 to fix. I have 2 small children and eventhough I got it fixed, the condenser can get damaged anytime as there is nothing protecting it.
2007 Honda Odyssey minivan. The air conditioning went out and the dealer says that a rock must have hit the condenser and put a small hole in it. Because it was "damaged" the dealer says the repair is not covered by the warranty, even though we have done nothing to cause the damage. The repair cost is $900. From reading the stories on the web, it sounds like I am not alone in having easy damage to Honda Odyssey air conditioners with dealers claiming that it is not covered by the warranty.
I own a 2006 Honda Odyssey and I have been having many problems with this vehicle. The most recent problem is with my ac. It worked one day and the very next day it stopped working. Given the fact that I ve had previous problems, I decided to google the internet just to see if anyone else have been having similar problems. And sure enough I came across many others that have been experiencing the same problems.
I bought a new 2006 Honda Odyssey ex rear dvd and navigation van. A few days back (at 26,000miles and less than 3yrs), there was smoke coming from the engine of the car. . . I quickly pulled over called the dublin Honda, CA dealer. They advised me to tow the car to the dealership. After I that I was advised that the a/c condenser has a hair-pin size hole (not visible to naked eye) and that's the problem. They told me that this is not covered by Honda bumper to bumper warranty. . I was shocked to hear that. I had to pay $880. 76 for this repair for a $40,000. 00 van which is still under factory warranty. . . . This is ridiculous. . Honda put the condenser at the wrong place (without a front guard) and make its customers pay for its ridiculous design. . In the new models now they have put a guard to protect the condenser. I urge you to fine Honda for this and have them issue a recall on their faulty design of which thousands have been victim.
Owner noticed that the air conditioning was not cooling. Verified that compressor was running, but it did not load the engine - suspected loss of refrigerant. Dealer confirmed no refrigerant was in system, and found that it had leaked out of condenser via a small hole, probably caused by something striking the condenser. Owner had discovered numerous complaints by owners of same model of vehicle regarding the a/c condenser being exposed and not appropriately protected by grille, and over a year ago had contacted the manufacturer regarding this apparent oversight. Mfr responded by saying they were not aware of any problems. Owner contacted manufacturer with this incident and to date has not received any response. Repairs estimated to be around $800. Owner wants to know why the manufacturer has denied knowledge of this problem, and wants manufacturer to provide a solution to prevent it from happening again. Owner's spouse has medical condition requiring air conditioning.
Small rock penetrated the a/c condenser.
The front end of my Honda was hit by a rock on the freeway. Saw it fly in front of me but didn't hear it hit anything. When I got to my destination front end was smoking/steaming. Found the rock had punctured my ac condenser. $600 to fix. (of course Honda wont cover it. But my insurance did) my complaint is there is no protection down there for such an expensive item. How much could it have cost Honda to put some kind of screen protection down there?.
Honda Odyssey condenser had a hole in it caused by "road debris". Repairman says this happens a lot with Honda's and is not covered by warranty. The car is only 1 year old and I am now having to pay $1000 to fix something that is a design flaw. Please force Honda to recall and put a protection grill on these cars to prevent this common occurrence!!!!.
