I own a 2005 Honda Odyssey and it has 39k miles. My a/c just went out and I took it to a local shop and the mechanic was shocked to see I needed to replace the compressor on such a new vehicle. I paid approx $600 to get it fixed. I checked the internet and there are mass quantities of complaints about the Odyssey a/c problem with rock damage to the compressor and Honda is well aware of this problem.

My a/c quit working while on my way home from the airport. I took it to the local Honda dealership who informed me that a rock or other debris from the road punctured a hole in the a/c compressor. I assumed this would be paid by Honda under warranty but I was informed that it would not. In researching this problem online, I have uncovered a large number of other individuals who have had a similar scenario. This is a design flaw in that the a/c is exposed to potential damage from the road and should be subject to a recall to fix it. Honda is undoubtedly aware of this problem but refuses address this issue in a responsible manner, which is a disappointment.
Air conditioner not working. According to the Honda service dealer(ph 805-584-6632). A rock hit the condenser and made a hole. I have seen many people complain about the same problem on the net and feel Honda should pay to fix it as it is a design flaw.
Replaced the air conditioner condenser on Honda 2005 Odyssey van twice (Mar 06, may 08) caused by rocks hitting/damaging the condenser because of a faulty grille design that does not protect the condenser from flying rocks/debris when driving.
Bought a 2005 Honda Odyssey on 7/1/05. On 4/4/06, the air conditioning condenser had to be replaced due to incidental damage from a road debris (probably a rock) puncturing it and leaking the freon out. On 4/28/08, the same thing has occurred. Looking on the internet, I have found many people having this same problem. The condenser coils are on the front of the vehicle with no protection from road debris (e. G. , a mesh or wire screen).
During driving in highway, oil cap detached from its place, entered radiator fan box and brook the radiator. As a result the cruise control released itself, check engine indicator and vsa indicator was lit. The car towed to the nearest Honda dealer.

I have a newer 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan with only 6000 miles. The air conditioner no longer works (blows warm air). Was told that a rock hit the condenser unit - and it is not covered under warranty. Searching around the internet, I find that hundreds and hundreds of other 2005-2007 Honda Odyssey owners have come across the same problem. The problem is that the ac condenser coils are exposed under the front grill. Any little rock or debris can/will puncture the ac lines - causing the refrigerant to leak. This is a common problem and it's costing us $700+ dollars to fix. Honda must realize that this is a problem with the 2005-2007 Odysseys since they now include a grill guard on the 2008 model. Honda should retro fit the 2005-2007 Odyssey will some grill protection screen to prevent this from happening. This is a design flaw that should be addressed. We, as owners of a new minivan, shouldn't have to pay another $700+ to have the air conditioner fixed when we've only driven the van for as short as 4000 miles. Honda can remedy this with a very simple fix.
I have a 2006 ex-l Honda Odyssey with 11000 miles on it. I haven't driven it much yet. I've noticed that my a/c has stopped working. I took it to the dealership. They told me that a rock has hit a a/c condenser and freon has leaked out and it's not covered under warranty and would cost me $960. I called american Honda at 1-800-999-1009 to complain but they rejected my claim. I'm seeing numerous complaints online with same issue. I don't think it's a coincidence, but rather a problem with the design.
I bought this Odyssey from jim coleman Honda in maryland in 2006 with extended warranty. This is 2004 model. The ac worked 2006 but in 2007 it di not work when we needed. I called the Honda and was told that they do not cover ac under the warranty. I took my Odyssey to criswell Honda in germantown in maryland and paid $100. 00 for the diagnostic. It worked fine for a week and again no ac. After that we went to india in Sep 2007 and rtn in Dec 2007. When the summer came in 2007 we had no ac I took the van again to criswell Honda and explain to them that they fixed this in 2007 they looked and said that there is a leak and will cost $55. 00 to fix it. I fought back and after talking to the manager they said it will cost $50. 00. I paid and after 3 days again no ac. Come 2009 may I took it to my local mechanic and was told that theirs is no visible leaks at this time but they need to put the dye to chk any leak and will cost me $560. 00 . I guess that it is regular problem with Honda and they are well aware of this. Good way to make money and spoil your name. I had a Honda accord 95 model and never had issue with the ac. I am going to write to Honda in japan about this. I have just called the american Honda and got the standard answer from ms marlyn that there is no recall or advisory from Honda on this. Take your vehicle to the dealership and she opened a case no for me. Lets fight together. Aejaz.

I own a 2006 Honda Odyssey ex-l. On Wednesday June 20, 2007 I noticed that my air conditioner was no longer putting out cold air. I also noticed at this time that my temp gauge was over to the hot line. I immediately shut off my engine and let it cool. Once I restarted it immediately went back to the hot position. Once I made it home I shut off the engine and noticed that the fan continued to run and the car was emitting a burning rubbery smell. I called the Honda dealership and told them about this. I asked about this being covered under warranty and the technician stated that if for some reason there was a rock in there that my warranty would not cover it but I had no concern because I thought this was rare. It was towed to the Honda dealership and they called me the next morning stating that there were rocks in my radiator and that my warranty would not cover it and it was going to cost me over $700 to get it fixed. I did some research and talked with Honda again and they said that they see this alot. They showed me my radiator and three rocks that they pulled out of it saying that these are what caused my problem. They asked if they could fix the radiator while they had the parts in stock and I said yes knowing that I need my car ASAP. I later called the dealership again to question the incident with the rocks because I talked with another mechanic and he said that this should not happened that easily. They still have the old radiator. The level of courtesy and customer service that I have received from Honda has dramatically dropped since I have been investigating this issue. This morning, Sunday July 1, 2007 I decided to do some internet research on Honda Odyssey's and this rock problem and I was amazed and appalled at how much this happens and how much Honda has just ignored this design flaw. I feel that a design flaw allowing your engine to overheat can put you at risk for a major engine fire and possibly death and Honda has chosen to ignore this.
I purchased a "certified pre-owned" 2005 Honda Odyssey and the Honda care extended warranty in March of 2007. I was planning a trip from texas to west virginia with a friend and our three kids, all under the age of five. In alabama, we realized the air conditioning was releasing hot air. I called the Honda dealerships in all the major cities we passed through. Since it was a Saturday on a holiday weekend, no one would help us. I called Honda care and was told they could do nothing because the van was still under factory warranty. When I arrived in west virginia, I made an appointment with the Honda dealership. The technicians there informed me that there was a hole in the van's condenser that "must have been caused by a rock. " I was also informed that this would not be covered under either my factory warranty or my extended warranty. I had no choice but to pay $633. 52 to get it fixed. I spoke to representatives at gunn Honda, who advised me to call Honda. I called the Honda customer service number. The regional manager called me and gave a seemingly rehearsed speech of how this would not be covered under my warranty. After a search online, I discovered that there are many many people who have had this same issue with this model. I am very distraught to think that no one has stepped forward to protect the hard-working citizens of this country from such a scandalous conspiracy. I am an army veteran who served time in iraq. My husband is active duty, stationed in hawaii, set to go to afghanistan. We cannot afford a plane ticket for him to come home because I had to use all of our savings for this. Why are people being deceived about how great Honda is and how the Odyssey is the number one minivan, and not being warned about such an expensive defect in the design? what can be done about this? am I to just let this organization take advantage of me?.
I have an 06' Honda Odyssey that just had its a/c unit go out. The Honda dealer says its due to a rock hitting the condenser and will cost $1000 to fix it. . Read more...
I have owned my Honda Odyssey minivan for a little over a year. The ac wasn't working, and I have been told that a "rock or pebble" must have hit the condenser causing a puncture. The part alone is $790, and Honda is refusing to cover under warranty. There are multiple complaints regarding this issue from other owners as the condenser lies low to the ground. Honda is covering "some" people's costs, but not others. I feel this is likely a manufacturer defect that needs to be fixed, and covered under warranty. There is currently no grille or protection for the condenser.
On the 3rd row seat there is a glove box on the passenger side. The box gets extremely hot. We found out when my child put in her crayons and all the crayons melted. The rear heating system is right under there according to the dealer. I didn't realize it was hot and when removing the bag of melted crayons (which I did not realize they were melted crayons) I burned my self. This occurs every single time. On longer drives it gets even hotter. I took the car to the dealer, as the car is still under warranty. The dealer said that this was a manufacturer's defect and that there was nothing they would do. I then called Honda but they said if the dealer said that they couldn't do anything then that was that. The side wall also gets quite warm. Not as hot as the box however this is a child safety hazard as children could get burned as well as anyone else who touches it.

I bought my Honda Odyssey minivan spring 2005 and we have repaired the air conditioner every year and I have complained to the dealership, they always tell me a rock popped up and hit the system so they are not liable I don't drive my car on rocky roads but I suppose that could happen but every year ? I think it is Honda's standard reply to a problem they know is their fault , I love the way my van handles, looks and really everything about it except it is getting old when spring comes around to bring it in to get the air conditioner fixed.
Ac condenser leak caused by "rock hitting it". Poor design which should have a grill protecting it. Causes freon leak. Dealers now suggesting to install an after market grill after spending $1000 to fix. Clearly a design problem by Honda.
At 9. 974 miles my 2005 Honda Odyssey was found to have an air conditioner condensor leak. This is due to the wide open, low profile opening on the front of the van. This was an expensive repair! I believe there should be a mesh installed there by the manufacturer to protect the condensor.
6. Coolant system continued from odi #760344. This left splash shield loose, vibrating & at risk of coming off, causing risk of accident/injury. Is it possible to require that Honda service personnel attend additional in service training on automobile coolant systems? so that consumers are not exposed to preventable hazards, examples being: breathing coolant fumes, injuries from engine overheating, slippery surfaces & environmental dangers to underground water supplies from coolant run off. 7. Right/left sliding doors-right/left sliding doors fail to open upon pulling of handles as designed. Three times our vehicle was returned to dealership for above complaint, after service bulletin 00-0091 was issued before repair was completed as per bulletin. I have spoken with a number of other Honda lx owners who stted they have same problem with being unable to open the sliding doors. When they took vehicles to dealership door seals were lubricated, but problem continues to exist. This is a safety issue as these vehicles are used to transport children to & from school and because the sliding door won't open, children must enter area of traffic flow to enter vehicle, increasing risk of injury. Sliding doors can & will oen while vehicle is in motiion, due to inability to fully open/close sliding doors via handles as designed. 8. Transmission-I complained of grinding noise when vehicle accelerates from 40to50mph. Rpm's go up to 2000 upon acceleration, after reaching 50mph, rpm's drop to between1500 to 1700 and grinding is heard. Explained to dealership numerous times & test drove with service advisor, was told he heard nothing & vehicle was operating as designed. After final repair/vehicle defect notification inspection/repair was performed, vehicle continues to have grinding noise at 50mph & was returned to us with tranmission shifter inoperable in d3, 2nd & 1st drive gears. We are notifying you of what we feel are the dangerous conditions in which our vehicle is in.
