5 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2010 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/02/2015

Today Jan 2nd 2015 around 6:40am cst, my van engine suddenly made a loud noise with high acceleration. I was driving at the speed of 40 mile/hour where suddenly with acceleration it started increasing it speed from 40m/h to 45m/h, 50 m/h and that moment I was scared and afraid and wasn't sure what was going on as I was not driving my van in cruise control. It was very hard to break and I have to use my both the feet to break my van to bring to the complete stop. After stopping and putting my van in park, I turn off the engine wait for a minute and start the engine. Van started but as it was parked and it started accelerating and I was not able to put in drive gear. Transmission was completely lock. I called my insurance all state to arrange roadside assistance to tow my van to nearest Honda dealer. Currently it my van is at frank kent Honda dealer (34000 west loop 820 south, fort worth, TX 76116). This is very scary experience and I was driving alone at that time. I have family with 2 kids 9 & 6 year old and I am worried what might have happened if I was driving with my kids in freeway at the speed limit or in the busy street with heavy or freezing icy road. Anything might have happened and that makes me think that what NHTSA does to protect consumer, a family, a driver safety like me to protect and safeguard there life with not having proper safety standards in place to avoid this computer malfunction problem which I believe in my case. I don't want that NHTSA have to wait when many more incidence happens like this before taking any action. I want that NHTSA should take action right to work proactively to prevent this kind of incidence. I want to hear concrete answer and action taken against my complaint launch for both NHTSA and Honda. 6 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/19/2014

2008 Honda Odyssey (about 5. 5 years old, 90,000 miles). Driving on highway at 65 mph, when a loud explosion occurred. Car started making a loud noise similar to when the exhaust comes off. Loss in acceleration and speed. Stalled shortly and had to be towed to dealer. Diagnosis was - coil and spark plug head "exploded" on cylinder #2. Some parts fell in and the inside of cylinder was scored. Engine was considered non-repairable and needed to be replaced. Had engine replaced at the local dealer. Cost over $5,000. Honda refuses to make any amends, or offer any compensation. This is a manufacturing defect. The first service on this engine is due at 105,000 miles. The car is 5. 5 years old with about 90,000 miles. This is a factory sealed engine. The car has been regularly serviced at the Honda dealership.

9 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

Driving at 50 mph on a Friday night. My van suddenly gave a loud explosive sound and the cabin filled up with smoke and I could not breathe or see properly. I wondered what was going on and quickly pulled up on the side of the road. It took me some time to get out of the van since I am disabled. My husband had to literally speaking, carry me out and sat me on the side of the road. Passers by had already called 911 when they noticed what was going on. The police, ambulance and fire dept came. The fire dept determined that my van was smoking heavily and they took care of the fire in my engine when they opened the hood. The van was towed to the dealership and they informed me that my transmission was defective. The only problem was that this will then be the third transmission in a van that is less than 8 years old. I had a similar problem in July 2011 at 80,000 miles and the transmission was replaced then with promises from Honda that I was good for another 5 years. So when this problem occurred exactly 2 years to the time that the second transmission was replaced, I reported the problem to Honda and they want me to pay for a third transmission. This is despite the fact that I always serviced my van with the dealership. It has never been serviced with the local repair shop. I am still making car payments on my van and they want me to pay for a new transmission? I will appreciate an investigation on why Honda is allowed to sell lemons to consumers even though they are aware of transmission problems on the Odyssey vans. Smoke and fire due to recurring transmission problems on the same van is a safety issue. I pray that no one will be killed or injured due to recurring transmission problems with Honda Odyssey vans. Thanks in advance for your assistance in protecting and ensuring consumer safety as we drive our cars.

12 Loud Engine Noise problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/25/2012

I am the original owner of this 2006 Honda Odyssey. The rear and side engine mounts have failed, at 72,000 miles. This is a manufacturer's defect. The engine mounts should not fail at this mileage. I had noticed a rumbling noise at lower speeds when the engine was running in eco mode, and it appears that this noise was a result of the failure of the engine mounts. It is a defect that if not repaired would result in the engine falling out of the vehicle, clearly a defect. Honda needs to take action to replace the faulty engine mounts and correct this defect in design in future models.

Failure Date: 08/23/2006

In 2/05, took van to dealer, explaining vehicle sometimes does not start, doesn't even make any turn over noises, but then smells of gas. This is an occasional item and then starts. Dealers stated I must be turning the key too fast. Also been experiencing vehicle cutting out between 35-50 mph. Dealer states must be from taking foot off gas pedal. Most recently, around 33k, blower motor for ac has terrible noise. Have taken to dealer 2x in 3 weeks. Told there are "leaves" in system. An independent mechanic states it is most likely a bearing going bad in the motor. Have continued to inform dealer of starting problems & hesitation problems between 35-50 mpg. Told warranty is close to expiring, but have driven & started vehicle several times & can't replicate problem. Most recent trip to dealer was on 8/23/06.
