Honda Odyssey owners have reported 13 problems related to horn assembly (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Odyssey based on all problems reported for the Odyssey.
Vehicle was off in a parked state in my driveway. The electrical harness for the horn malfunctioned and the horn was audible for about 4 minutes. During which, the fuse for the horn was removed, though the horn did not stop being audible. After the four minutes, the horn cut off and the harness shorted out. Smoke was visible as well as the smell of burnt wire coming from the drivers side front headlight. Pulling of the fuse had no effect as the horn continued to be audible. The cause is unknown at this time and can potentially lead to a fire in the vehicles engine compartment. There was no one driving the vehicle at the time. Maintenance is preformed iaw the vehicles manual at an official Honda dealership.

One day after changing engine oil at Honda dealershop last week Monday, there was flickering on dash board after turning the power off. The symptom was getting worse and on Sunday and Monday (yesterday), the car horn honking itself. And yesterday, the dash board power couldn't be turned off when I turned the power switch off (engine off luckily) and the flickering got worse last night. So, I did unplug the battery with a worry of fully drained battery overnight. Today morning, I plug the battery back and get the same issue, and luckily ignite the engine and went to dealer shop again. They did diagnosis and said keyless access control unit needs to be replaced. Here is the summary of the symptoms: last week flickering dash board with fcw system failed. And honking itself with keeping flickering. Yesterday, I saw error message of "keyless system error". And I went to dealershop in this morning. Here is my speculation: during oil change, there was oil spilling, which causes shorting of circuitry (or technician accidently hit some parts inside). It causes frequent on/off of electronic system, ending up breaking the keyless access control unit. The dealer didn't say anything, but charged me to replace the parts since my car is out of warranty.

I took my car last year for the recalls that had for the air bags and the interlock lever of he ignition switch. After one day of work they said they fix all of them. But after some month I notice that the key it was no working properly on the switch and I see also they didn't replace the old switch, and because I don't have sufficient knowledge of this issue I believe just what they said. But my car is having problem with the key ignition, the switch it's not reading the key most of the times and it's not starting and sometimes it start by itself without the key just pressing the horn. The recall for the interlock lever of the ignition switch is NHTSA 12v-573 manufacturer recall number s73. ( Dec 2012).

The alarm went on at around 2am and kept on going. Switched if off using key fob. Checked all doors and windows and nothing was open. After about ten minutes it started going off again by itself. As I was watching at that time, there was no reason for the alarm to go off. The same thing repeated over several nights and this became an issue for us and neighbor's. From then on, I have started taking out the horn fuse when parking. As this happened a few months ago, I have given an approximate date below. I am having this checked by a dealer, though I doubt they can find the cause as this occurs randomly. This has however become a major headache.

Horn on 2018 Honda Odyssey (elite & touring trim levels) for sure. Horn is a single tone low note and is barely noticeable and woefully inadequate. Yesterday while traveling on a not very busy country road, I activated horn at about a dozen buzzards feasting on some roadkill in the roadway and had to come to an almost complete stop before they moved. They were more intimidated by presence of my vehicle than horn blaring at them. Sounds stupid, I know, but it emphasizes problem. Horn is almost entirely unnoticeable and does not get or attract attention, which makes it a definite safety concern. It does not "command" your attention and is not easily heard over ambient noises. Horn on my previous 2013 Odyssey was a dual tone horn and much louder and drew attention immediately. I seriously doubt the factory installed horn meets federal standards for decibel level. Not that it matters but it just sounds pitiful coming from an almost $50,000 fairly large vehicle. Honda has truly dropped the ball on this safety item and I believe it is enough of a concern to replace this lousy horn with a much louder dual tone horn at my own expense. Someone there should take a look at this issue. This issue comes into play at any time the horn is needed to attract attention or alert someone to any number of situations and needs to be corrected before someone gets hurt or killed.
It was little cold night. I drove on freeway for 40minutes with kids without central heating. When we got home, I wake them up. I found my young daughter at back seat, she couldn't wake up unusually. She was sleeping, leaning toward rt. Side cup holder side at back seat. I saw her face was so red like first degree burn and her hair was all wet and her body was so sweating. It was unbelievable that the whole surface next to rt. Back seat was extremely hot!!! even though the van engine was stopped. I immediately tried to her cool down. My kids told me. "ever since we bought this van, when the van's engine was turning on, back seat rt. Side body was always hot. " next morning, I took the van to Honda service. But it could not fixed for 3days and no one called me for updating info. The van is still in the service. One of technician told me from the service, it has been problems for 4years. I called Honda customer service, but no answer. I am trying to ask them buy back program. It is extremely dangerous for family with young children. This is not first time problem for this new van. I already had several problems. 1. It was not starting engine several times on the 1st week of purchase. 2. Brake was completely not moving more than one hour and not starting engine together on the 2nd week of purchase in the parking lot. 3. Clicking and clucking noise at rear of lt. Side with rt. Turning with brake all the times. 4. The van's horn by itself making noise for 20minutes on freeway driving. The Honda service couldn't find the causes. They just removed van's security alarm. Honda service didn't allow me for a rental van. I am expecting Honda's immediate and appropriate customer care for buy back program. Until now, this brand new van went to 9times services for 3months without fixing, 11days in the service, our family are very having hard time for normal living life with kids.

The car alarm horn going off for no reason at 2 am in the morning. Hit the lock button on the remote and alarm stopped. When daylight, found driver side door was not locked but all the other doors were locked. Then another incident in a week, 4 am the car alarm horn going again. Shut it off with remote. Within 5 minutes the car alarm horn went off again. Shut it off with remote and went outside, opened the driver side door with key. Then locked all the doors with manual switch on driver side door panel and closed the driver side door. The vehicle, while a 2008 model has less than 27,000 miles. This should be a recall for Honda automobiles in general from reading complaints.

: the contact stated the radio controls worked intermittently. While on vacation, the cruise control suddenly stopped working. The dealership determined this was a common problem with vehicles of the same year, make and model. The defective part also affected the proper operation of the horn assembly, the steering wheel, air bag sensor, cruise control and radio controls. The dealership replaced the cable and reel assembly. The repair only corrected the problems with the radio controls and the cruise control.
Multiple failures. Brakes problem, transmission, rough idle & engine surging, steering column controls and others. The automatic door would not open or close, the transmission did not shift properly and the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. The brake pedal shuttered, the brakes would catch without being applied. The consumer was told the steering column control switch had a short, however the next day the horn honked and there was an odd noise in the steering column and the interior lights flashed multiple times.
Horn design only contains two small spots to activate horn, impossible to accomplish when trying to avoid vehicle. Mjs.
