2025 Odyssey with 19k miles; starter failure; after running/ driving vehicle continuously for 45 minutes in 80(f) degree weather, stopped and turned off vehicle completely. Tried restarting after 5 minutes, engine turned over twice, but did not start, and auxiliary features stayed on as if vehicle was running. Attempted again, heard click, as if engine attempted to turn, but no start. Checked engine visually, noticed engine bay was hot, but fluid levels all were within recommended ranges based on container-marked levels. After turning vehicle off, waiting 10 minutes and using battery jumper, engine started and stayed running. This is concerning as the vehicle features an auto-start feature that can turn off my vehicle in traffic, and leave me stranded at an intersection or worse if the starter fails.

The vehicle stalled at a traffic light and would not go into park or shut down to restart for about a minute. There were no warning signs or warning lights. It is a safety issue due to this potentially happening in the middle of an intersection while waiting to turn. The vehicle is being taken to the dealership on Wednesday, July 1st.
Water entered rear panel causing tailgate control module to get wet and stop working. This caused my tailgate to have no power and unable to close due to the latch being stuck in a closed position. Door was open unable to latch closed while I had to drive the vehicle to a mechanic.

When I came to a stop at a traffic light, the car shut off as expected. However, when I took my foot off the brake the car did not start up. I had to manually start the car. This happened 3 times earlier so I had the car in to curtis ryan Honda for service one week prior and they claimed the battery was defective and put a new one in. However, even after the new battery, it did it again yesterday. Each time it happens, the cars behind me get anxious and start beeping. I am afraid that I may be rear ended at some point if this keeps happening. I dropped the car off at the dealer again for them to take another look at it.
When I come to a full stop and the idle stop feature engages, sometimes the engine will not restart. I get a message saying to press the button to start the engine, but it does not start after doing that either, so I have to shut the car off and restart it. There are a bunch of lights that flash when this happens.
The auto start/stop feature doesn't work as needed. It will randomly lurch, turn the car off make me put it in park and then have me restart it. Sometimes the car does not start right away and I am stuck on the road until it decided when and if it will restart. Myself and my family of 5 are not stuck in the road scared of getting smashed into by other drivers unaware that we are stopped or anticipating for us not to be stopped in the middle of the road. I really dont want my family to go to the hospital or die because of this nonsense. Sometimes it doesn't fully shut off but will give error warnings like collision mitigation assistance even though there is nothing for it to mitigate. There are no cars around me and it shouldn't have done this. This has been happening for some time and only happens haphazardly meaning I can't always have the dealer identify or diagnose the issue. Then when I brought it to the dealer, they told me it was because of a power liftgate module error. Which was not true and didn't solve the issue.

Auto idle stop feature has caused the vehicle to stall / shut down at a stop light on several occasions causing hazard when we can't drive. Entire engine has to be stopped and restarted which is scary in heavy traffic.
While in traffic, the van goes into idle and then will not restart. This has happened to us at least 5 times. The frequency has increased and now occurs at least once a week. We are very much worried about how unsafe this is because we could be hit from any direction while in active traffic. We noticed NHTSA investigation (id# pe25-03) is already underway and feel that the issues apply to our situation. We need immediate help please.
All warning lights began flashing after a srs recall fix at Honda of joliet, illinois. Dealer wanted to do a in depth vehicle scan for $279. I brought it to an independent care repair shop where they did the scan for $199. They found engine damage per attached report. My vehicle’s VIN was not included in the initial recall for the same problem for the same vehicle, year, and engine type. Contacted Honda customer service a more or less ‘good luck’ response.

Warning lights began flashing on dash. Brought van to repair shop and was told and show leakage of oil into cylinders with metal shavings visible. Also heard a ticking sound while idling for a few weeks. Van only has 145,000 miles on it and was regularly serviced.
I am reporting a critical safety issue regarding the auto-start-stop system on my 2025 Honda Odyssey. On June 15, 2026, the vehicle's engine shut off at an intersection as designed but failed to restart, stranding the driver in active traffic and presenting a severe safety hazard. I previously brought the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership approximately two weeks prior to this incident after noticing early symptoms of this failure. At that time, the dealership diagnosed the issue as low battery voltage and replaced the battery; however, this repair did not resolve the underlying fault. The vehicle continues to unexpectedly stall during traffic stops due to the auto-start-stop failure, representing an ongoing and significant danger to the vehicle occupants and other motorists.
For a couple of weeks we have been having issues with our 2018 Honda Odyssey's back right door. When you go to open it, something happens where it makes it shut after fully opening. Our resolution for the time was to just push on the door harder and it would continue to slide open. Today, on xxx I was going to put my [xxx] son in his carseat, which is located mid van right side. He snuck infront of me and was standing in the path of the sliding door, it did what it normally does, the same door did not detect his body and began shutting on him. As it was squeezing his shoulders I was pushing back on the sliding door with all my strength, and after a few seconds it opened back up. I'm not sure whether the sensor failed, or it can't detect past a certain height, but either way it was a very scary situation. This had just happened an hour ago, so I haven't reported it to any authorities or anything. I came home and googled how to make a manufacturer report and it lead me here. If I had not been standing behind my son, I believe the door would have continued shutting more, enough to sustain serious injuries if not more. My son physically was okay, aside from a red mark on his upper arm where the door was shutting on him, he did need at least 5 minutes of consoling after, which only happens when something truly hurt him. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Vehicle shuts off with with the start/stop feature. Then will not restart the motor after taking foot off the brake causing a dead vehicle in the road with no warning. Then its a scramble to get it to restart and its difficult to start. This happens at random and seems like Honda refuses to fix.
When at a stop, the van is supposed to start again. There have been at least 4 times now that it did not automatically restart. After the 3rd time, I was at the dealer for routine maintenance and mentioned it. He said if it does it again to let them know and they will need a full day to look at it. The most recent time I was at a major intersection in town at a red light. Light turned green and the van would not go. My adult son was with me and said it took about 30 seconds for me to get the van going again. It is scary because I live in a busy town. The service advisor said he has the same van and always turns the idle stop to off when he drives. I try to remember to do it, but sometimes I forget. I am calling the dealer now but really don't want time without a vehicle.
2025 Honda Odyssey auto idle stop fails to restart engine after automatic shutdown at intersections; vehicle must be restarted manually; safety hazard; repeated occurances; video documentation made. Reference: NHTSA ea25004.
While waiting at a stoplight, the auto idle system engaged and turned off the vehicle's engine. When attempting to continue through the intersection, the vehicle failed to start again. The only way to restart the engine was to place the car in park and push the stop/start button again. This caused a safety issue because I was in the middle of traffic at an intersection, and was expected to move. Thankfully the vehicle restarted without requiring any further intervention, and as a result the vehicle was not inspected by police or insurance representatives. This exact problem was previously addressed by Honda under a recall. During that time, they performed the software update as necessary, however that obviously did not remedy the problem. After returning my vehicle to the dealer, Honda has verified that my vehicle did experience this event and now says that it will need a new starter at a significant cost to me. I am dismayed by the fact that Honda technical service bulletin 23-009 addresses this exact problem, including a warranty extension for a starter replacement, and yet is not applicable to the Odyssey model. There was no warning or indication that this incident was going to occur, and until the starter can be replaced, the only advice given by Honda was to disable to auto idle system (which must be done each and every time the vehicle is turned off/on).
-defective starter. -starter randomly fails to restart vehicle after being warmed up. -when the DC motor internal copper windings get heat soaked after being driven and warmed up, the motor's internal resistance gets too high to draw sufficient current to turn over engine properly. This happens when intentionally shutting off motor (ie. Getting gas, going into a store then coming out in a few minutes), the engine either will not crank at all, or cranks about two engine revolutions, will not start and then stops trying and remains in full accessory mode. It will not attempt a restart either. The only remedy is to fully shut down the vehicle, then try a fresh start after a few seconds. Sometimes it will start the engine, sometimes it will repeat the issue and you have to try again. This is extremely dangerous when this problem occurs when the vehicle is at an intersection or traffic light, shuts itself off due to the auto-start/stop, then fails to restart the engine when expected when the light turns green. Especially at traffic lights if you're the first car in line. , and especially if you're the first car to go with traffic behind and in a single lane of traffic. Having to totally shut the car down, then do a fresh restart while blocking an intersection with tons of cars behind and all waiting on your car to decide if it wants to re-start with cars flying around you into the shoulder or ditch to get around is an extremely dangerous position to be in, forcing other drivers into doing ridiculous things to get around you and will if not already cause major accidents. I believe Honda knows this is an issue. They are blaming bad batteries and alternators which can easily be ruled out with independent battery and alternator testing in the vehicle, while the problem of no/slow cranking remains. The problem is defective starters, that have or will absolutely cause accidents by stranding vehicles in intersections because of failures to restart.
My 2026 Honda Odyssey was stopped at a traffic light with auto idle stop engaged. When traffic was ready to move, the engine appeared to restart for about half a second and then shut down. The vehicle then shifted itself into park and would not resume normal operation. The battery warning light was illuminated. Pressing the engine start/stop button caused all of the screens/displays to turn off briefly, but they came back on in the same failed state. The vehicle was disabled in traffic at an intersection. The component or system that failed appears to be the auto idle stop / engine restart system, possibly involving the starter, starter relay, battery/charging system, or engine control software. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk because the vehicle unexpectedly failed to restart and became disabled while stopped at a traffic light, creating a traffic obstruction and risk of being struck from behind or causing other drivers to maneuver around the vehicle. The problem has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. Unknown whether diagnostic trouble codes were stored. The vehicle/component has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure that I noticed. The battery warning light appeared after the engine shut down and the vehicle would not restart normally.
Our vehicle has stalled at stop lights several times over the past 6 years. The auto stop/start feature seems to fail. The vehicle will shut off but when you repeat the brake it will not restart and the vehicle will die completely. You have to put it in park, wait a few seconds and try and restart. Additionally it has completely died at gas station after turning it off to refuel. When you go to start the vehicle it will be completely dead, zero power. We had to have it jump started. The battery has been replaced twice and was testing normal at the dealership. Not a battery issue. Honda acts like this is unheard of but our own research indicates it is a common well known problem with new Odyssey models.
Sitting at a stop light. The car stopped the engine with the auto start stop system. When I released my foot off the brake. The engine didn’t start back up. I had to put it in park. Press the start button multiple times and it finally barely started. This was in traffic right while the light turned green.
Had the starter & battery replaced November 2025. It’s now June 2026 and it still is having trouble starting. It will sometimes not start and then just make a clicking noise and all the lights in the dash come on and air, but engine won’t well start. Then you take foot off break, then turn it off and try again it will start. The dealership ran tests and said everything was fine. When we first had this problem the car would stall out and shut off in traffic.
Electrical restart feature failures, battery dash indicator comes on and the restart feature won’t engage. This has happened on several occasions on busy roads with lights vehicle won’t move without manually turning off vehicle and putting into park to restart. Was almost rear ended by large truck after being unable to restart vehicle after being stopped at a red light.
Vehicle on numerous occasions has had a complete electrical failure during an auto stop that has caused the engine to turn off and needed manual reboot several times for the car to restart.
I own a 2020 Honda Odyssey with approximately 73,000 miles that has experienced recurring infotainment and electrical system failures. The vehicle has undergone two prior repairs related to the fakra connector issue, but the problem continues to occur. During the failure, the infotainment screen becomes inoperable, audio functions are affected, and the rearview backup camera becomes unavailable or unusable. The issue appears to be intermittent and is often triggered during or after rain. In addition to the infotainment failures, I have experienced key fob recognition issues requiring the key to be placed near the start button to start the vehicle. There is also static through the speakers, particularly when turning the steering wheel. The vehicle has been taken to a Honda dealership multiple times for this concern, and dealership personnel have witnessed the malfunction. Despite two previous repair attempts, the issue persists. Because the failure affects the operation of the rearview camera system, which is a critical safety feature, I am concerned about the safety of the vehicle and whether the prior repairs adequately addressed the underlying defect. I am submitting this complaint because numerous other Honda owners have reported similar recurring failures involving the infotainment system, fakra connector repairs, backup camera operation, and related electrical concerns. I request that NHTSA investigate whether there is a broader defect affecting these vehicles and whether previous repair procedures are providing a permanent remedy. The dealer recently confirmed the fault was present and advised that additional diagnosis and consultation with Honda technical support would be required to determine the cause.
The multipurpose camera unit /mil radar internal electric failure (dtc's u3000-49) caused the majority of the safety features lights to come on and eventually stalled out. This part has failed twice already.
Recall 23v-431 (Honda 23-046) was previously performed on my vehicle to address most communication network failures affecting the infotainment system and backup camera. Despite the recall being marked complete, I continued experiencing intermittent infotainment failures. Symptoms include “network connection lost” messages, complete loss of the center display, audio failure, apple carplay disconnects, system resets, and loss of the backup camera while reversing. The failures frequently occur while driving over bumps, during turns, and recently while backing into a parking space. Because the issue persisted, I sought a second opinion from another Honda dealer. During their inspection, they advised that required portions of recall 23-046 had not been completed by the original dealership that performed the recall. The service advisor informed me that system history had not been cleared, a factory cable reset had not been performed, and the audio unit had not been properly initialized. In a follow-up text message, the advisor described the situation as a “workmanship error” by the original dealership. The remaining recall procedures were completed, however the same symptoms returned immediately afterward. The center display, audio, apple carplay, and backup camera continue to intermittently fail. I have incurred diagnostic expenses and out-of-pocket repair costs attempting to resolve this issue. My concern is that the original recall repair may not have been properly completed and that the same safety-related symptoms addressed by recall 23v-431 continue to occur, including loss of backup camera functionality while reversing. I am submitting this complaint because I am concerned that the recall remedy was not properly performed and that the safety defect addressed by the recall may still be present.
Bad starter. When utilizing auto start/stop, the engine would fail to restart at stop. The car would need to be shifted back to park, turned all the way off, and then back on to restart, resulting in a delay - an unsafe practice at an intersection.
2025 Honda Odyssey has completely shut down at a traffic light and stop signs. This has now happened multiple times. When waiting at a red light the car fails to restart the car when I take my foot off the brake and I get a message “to continue to drive depress brake pedal and push switch” . The red battery light comes on and the car puts it self in park. The car fails to turn on or turn all the way off. The car is stuck in park in the middle of traffic.
Auto idle stop (ais) system fail to restart: the engine fails to restart on its own after a complete stop at a traffic light or intersection with the auto start/stop function engaged, putting the driver in dangerous and panic situation.
Our 2025 Honda Odyssey has now experienced three failures for the same defect, including two starter replacements within two weeks, without resolution. The most recent repair, overseen by Honda tech line, happened after the vehicle died June 2 while in traffic and it had to be towed to the local dealership using our insurance. On June 15 the vehicle died again, just five days after I picked it up with assurance that this issue was resolved, and it is was towed back to the dealership by Honda towing. The repeated part swaps, without root?cause diagnosis, clearly have not resolved the issue and have left us with a one?year?old vehicle that is unreliable and unsafe to operate. My minivan has failed in the middle lane of a major road while idling at a stoplight twice and in a parking lot once. All incidents were within 15 minutes of driving and 5 miles from my home. This is a critical safety defect and the repeated failures place this vehicle within the criteria that may qualify under kentucky’s lemon law. We have not made that claim yet, but we are formally documenting the repair history and escalation. ———- -starter failed and was replaced twice. This could have something to do with the auto start/idle system. -our one year old van is unsafe and unreliable. It died near a major intersection while idling at a stop light. I was in the middle lane and it wouldn’t restart for 5 minutes. I was very afraid my children and I would be rear ended. -the dealership has confirmed the problem, but they not been able to recreate the scenario despite it happening on 3 separate occasions. -Honda tech line has been directing the local dealer what to do after the first starter replacement failed. I filed a claim with american Honda. -no warning lights/lamps prior to failures.
I am filing a complaint regarding recurring electrical and infotainment failures involving my 2020 Honda Odyssey ex-l. The vehicle experiences loud static and speaker distortion, infotainment system instability, static noises when turning the steering wheel, and intermittent key fob recognition issues requiring the key to sometimes be held near the start button. The issue appears to happen more often during or after rain or moisture exposure. The dealership has already repaired/replaced the fakra connector or related infotainment connector multiple times, yet the issue continues returning. The dealership recently witnessed the malfunction themselves and acknowledged the problem is still present. I am currently waiting for further direction from Honda technical support. This appears to be a widespread issue. There are many reddit discussions and Honda owner facebook groups where owners describe identical symptoms and repeated failed repairs. Some owners report having the same fakra connector replaced as many as six times with the issue still returning afterward. The repeated failure of the same repair raises concerns that the current remedy is ineffective and that there may be a larger electrical, wiring, grounding, or moisture intrusion issue involved. Because this problem continues after multiple repair attempts, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate recurring electrical and infotainment failures in Honda Odyssey vehicles and the repeated failure of the current repair solution.
My vehicle has failed to restart at intersections when the idle start stop feature is engaged. Have to put car in park and manually shut off car and restart the car to get it to restart. Get an error code for a little while about brake issue.
Multipurpose camera is defective- broken after only 80,000 miles. No longer functions at all. No automatic emergency braking, no forward collision warning, no lane departure warning, no lane keeping assistance, no adaptive cruise control. Dangerous now without all those computer controlled safety functions. $2400 replacement. I don’t have $2400.
Engine start/stop feature is not working properly and it nearly caused a few accidents. I am getting rid of this car and going to purchase a Toyota sienna. Android auto doesn't work either which is a known issue as well and it is a basic safety feature to keep driver's attention on the road and not on their phones.
