3 Ignition Switch problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

I was driving on the street approximately 25mph, suddenly the steering wheel locked up on me. The vehicle had approximately 270,000mi on it. I checked american Honda recalls and found a recall order. Copies of he documents enclosed. I reported the problem and explained the circumstances of the problem. I was told that recalls are VIN specific and vehicle does not show anything on their records. I made and researched and found the documents which I've enclosed copies with this complaint. I was told to talk with Honda dealership so they could advice me about the problem. I went to norm reeves Honda, as much as I did, I was ignored, no one listened, all I was told was call back american Honda in which I said I have done. . They did not do anything to check on it and no explanation about it was oven except their records show a part number that upon my insistence for more info, I was totally ignored. The recall notice was issued Feb 22, 2013 titled, "electrical system ignition switch" which clearly explains the issuance of the recall order. . Although the 15 year warranty has lapsed since the issuance of the order. If there was something done on the lever, they did not replaced or did anything on the ignition switch which is the only reason that I see is connected with what happened to the vehicle and my safety and the public's.

9 Ignition Switch problem of the 1996 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/20/2016

This is the second time that we have had an ignition switch failure on this 1996 Honda Odyssey. It will sometimes start, with some jiggling of the key, or will not start at all. It has cut out while driving, a dangerous situation, especially when carrying children. At this point, it will not start at all. How often do we need to replace this? Honda Odysseys of this year were subject to recall for this very problem in australia, japan, and china. Why not here? china, in this instance, has more concern for safety than the obsessively safety-oriented USA.

14 Ignition Switch problem of the 2011 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

My ignition key is falling apart. The ignition key contains the security chip to allow the car to start/run and it also contains the transmitter to lock and unlock the car. The housing of the key is coming apart. I am concerned that my car may stop running if the security chip falls out of the housing, as I am driving. This would cause the engine to stop running and the lost of power for the brakes and steering. I reported this issue to Honda and they are not interested in assisting me with repairing his as a warranty issue. The cost to replace the key is in excess of $100. 00. Many individuals are doing well to just make the car payment and do not have the funds to purchase a replacement key due to the above mentioned issue. Seeing that gm has had a number of crashes related to the ignition switch, I believe that a similar issue is likely to occur with Honda's using the same key as my 2011 Odyssey ex-l.

2003 Honda Odyssey. Consumer writes in regards to ignition switch recall notice and seeks reimbursement for repairs. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, after receiving a recall notice, which required the installation of an updated shift interlock lever. Later in the day, the consumer received a call from the dealer stating the vehicle needed a new ignition switch. The dealer stated they would install the new switch at a cost of $ 520. The consumer was satisfied with the work. However, he objected to being charged for the work, because according to the recall notice, it explicitly stated the work would be performed at no cost to the consumer. The service manager acknowledged that the ignition switch was a necessary part, he insisted, the consumer was obliged to pay for the installation. The consumer wrote Honda's national service department, explaining the situation and they wrote back rejecting his request for reimbursement. Failure Date: 06/04/2013

This problem started several months ago. It became worse till the ignition key jammed and became hard to turn to start the engine then, last week, the key would not turn at all. I called my dealership and was asked to bring it in to them but was hesitant to. I went on to my computer, did a search, and saw several complaints on the 2005 Odyssey experiencing this problems and the cost that they were quoted was astronomical. I then looked up a reliable locksmith, that worked on ignition switch repairs, located in my city and they were able to repair it. The tumblers, actual one (1), had becomes worn and that caused the switch to freeze. I do remember a recall on earlier models of Honda for having this similar type of situation. I did find out during this visit with this locksmith that a local dealer, not mine, would bring their Hondas to them, that had been brought in to their Honda service department, and had this locksmith company do the actual repairs.

22 Ignition Switch problem of the 2004 Honda Odyssey

I took our 2004 Odyssey Mini van to our Honda dealership for a recall on the ignition switch. While there, the dealership identified three of the four engine mounts were broken, resulting in a $858. 78 repair. The dealer claims that the problem is not uncommon in vehicles with 100,000. We've had cars much older than this and have never experienced this problem! if it's "not uncommon" in Honda Odysseys, I think it should be investigated. Perhaps another recall from Honda is due.

23 Ignition Switch problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/24/2013

We were returning from a family vacation traveling on the interstate highway system at 70 mph when, without any warning, all the dials on the dashboard (speedometer, tachometer, etc) suddenly went to zero then immediately returned to normal. I also noticed a burning smell. About two minutes later, while still traveling on the highway at 70 mph, the vehicle lost all acceleration. So we pulled to the side of the road. About a minute after we pulled over, the vehicle ceased all operations. My initial efforts to restart the vehicle were unsuccessful, but after 5 minutes, I was able to restart the vehicle. Again, the vehicle ceased operations after a few minutes. After investigating the vehicle, we decided to call a tow truck. While sitting on the side of the highway waiting for the tow truck, we turned on the vehicle again to operate the air conditioning. After about 10 minutes, we noticed the burning smell and puffs of smoke coming from the steering column. We turned off the vehicle and waited for the tow truck. The Honda dealership to which the vehicle was towed replaced the ignition switch and fixed the problem. They informed me the ignition switch "burned up" inside. I still have the part, if you care to inspect it. We were able to complete the remainder of our 700 mile journey home. Please note the dealership informed me the problem I experienced was completely different from the recent safety recall on this vehicle (recall 13-011) for the ignition shift interlock problem. While I normally do not file complaints of this nature, I am filing this complaint to bring this issue to your attention. Based on my research on the internet, I am not the only one experiencing this problem. Thankfully, no one was injured in my incident. However, it is very possible that serious injury can occur when a vehicle traveling at 70 mph loses power without any warning.

28 Ignition Switch problem of the 2009 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/12/2012

The air conditioning (a/c) control relay on my 2009 Honda Odyssey failed less than 3 years after purchase, causing intermittent electrical problems that would prevent the car from starting. When the car's ignition switch is placed in the "accessory I" position, only the audio system and accessory power sockets should be engaged and able to operate. My a/c control relay failed in the closed position, causing the a/c compressor in my car to run continuously, even when the ignition switch was in the accessory I position. The end result was whenever I left the ignition switch in the accessory position for more then a couple minutes, the running a/c compressor would very quickly drain the battery, leaving the car unable to start. Placing the ignition switch in the accessory position for a matter of minutes should not result in a person being stranded !!! the part number for the a/c compressor relay on my 2009 Odyssey is omron g8hl-h71. Honda's corresponding part number is for this relay is 39794-sda-a03.
