37 Structure problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/12/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the heater was not working and she took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer discovered that the heater pipes contained mice droppings. The dealer cleaned the heater pipes and air way four times, but they could not correct the defect. She found that the pipes were made with a chemical that attracts mice, which contracted an airborne bacteria. Her two children were treated for the bacteria. A report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that it was due to an environmental issue. They further stated that nothing could be done to remedy the issue. The failure and current mileages were 54,000.

38 Structure problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/28/2007

Honda Odyssey 2007 exl: brake pedal is soft requiring pressing almost to the bottom to stop the car. Dealer did replace master cylinder but no difference, the same scary feeling especially on a highway. Couple times I even manage to press brake and accelerator pedals at the same time while trying to stop a car. The first time it happened (it was in canada and road was slippery) I had to use parking brake to stop a car.

39 Structure problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/10/2007

The manual sliding doors for the rear seats of our 2002 Honda Odyssey stopped closing securely so we had to take the car to the dealer for repair. The red lights on the panel and the inability to close the door tightly cause parents driving children quite a bit of anxiety. Internet chat rooms indicate that this is a common problem with this model.

40 Structure problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/16/2007

On 07/16/07 my wife drove about 65 miles to a dr. Appointment. When she stopped smoke came from under the hood. She called me and I drove the 65 miles to check the van. The air conditioner was not working so I took the van to the dealer thinking a warranty repair. They told me a object hit the air conditioner coil in front of the radiator and this was not covered under warranty. It cost me $720. 35. They advised me to order a aftermarket billite grill from e bay and this will keep this from happening again. I did and this cost me $104. 00. I did a search in the internet and found this is happening to a lot of people in all areas of the country. Seems there is poor designing for this area of the van allowing objects to damage the vehicle's parts. Please investigate this problem.

41 Structure problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/20/2007

I am the original owner of the 2005 Honda Odyssey with about 15 k miles. In June we noticed loss of the ac system. Upon a visit to local Honda dealer I was told that a rock/road debris punctured the ac condenser and the repair estimate runs about $ 700. 00. In a process of calling 5 other local Honda dealers trying to get a better pricing, I learned that my case is not that rare as it may sound. I was told that on average they replace about 2-3 ac condensers a month. Then I checked the internet and found much more Odyssey's owner with identical stories. My issue is that 2005-2007 Odyssey has a design flaw - too big opening under the bumper that allows any road debris to penetrate ac condenser and/or radiator. I am firm believer that Honda acknowledges that problem because 2008 Odyssey has a very nice, factory installed screen mesh under the bumper without any significant body upgrades for that year model. I called the regional Honda customer service center but they denied any responsibility.

42 Structure problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/17/2007

45 Structure problem of the 2001 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/22/2006

My air conditioner in my 2001 Honda Odyssey stopped blowing cool air, so I took my van in to my dealership. I thought it would be something simple. But, apparently a rock must had hit my condenser and caused a leak. My condenser had to be replaced which ended up costing $750. This was a 5 hour job. I believe that this is a manufacture defect and have researched this issue. There are alot of other Honda Odysseys that have had this problem.

46 Structure problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/01/2006

2006 Honda Odyssey. Air conditioning condenser damaged by road debris and required replacing the condenser. Dealer stated damage was caused by road hazard/debris and so was not covered by warranty. The condenser is very exposed on front bottom of vehicle with no protection from flying debris. Similar event has occurred to many owners of 2006 Odysseys. Honda should be held liable/responsible to provide a product to protect the condenser on this model. The 2008 Odyssey comes with a grill covering the condenser. So it is obvious they are aware of the old bad design.

47 Structure problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/27/2006

: the contact stated while driving 30 mph on normal road conditions, the front of the vehicle shook when the brakes were applied. No warning signal illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined the front wheel pads were worn out and the two front rotors were machined. After 4000 miles, the problem recurred and the dealership determined the front wheels brake pads were worn out and replaced them again. The problem persisted and the front shaking was noticed nine times. The manufacturer was contacted who opened a case with the commitment of calling back promptly which has not happened. There was a wind noise coming from the windshield and the left sliding door. The rear seat belt was ripped. Updated 11/14/06.

48 Structure problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/29/2005

Windshield wind noises. . Noises started 7 months and 9900 miles after possession of vehicle. Starting hearing whistling noise when drive vehicle @ low speeds on windy days. Took vehicle into the shop and they replaced both moldings and adjusted fender. Took vehicle back into the shop a month later with same problem. They preformed bulletin #04-078. Drove vehicle additional 2000 miles and wind noise started again. This time I had other dealership in town try to fix windshield. Picked up vehicle and drove it out of town and rt. Windshield moldings came loose. Pulled over and noticed that dealership had scratched and dented fender and windshield post. Pulled back the loose and flapping moldings and noticed that they had shoved a red shop towel in the fender/windshield area to stop the noise. * this proper procedures in the repair manuel** shoving red shop rags in the fenders to stop wind noise?? what to do now - fender and windshield post and quarter needs to be repainted - I now have lost value on vehicle because vehicle will be painted and windshield molding is held on by duck tape. --fyi, windshield moldings are only held in with double sided tape clips - double sided tape will only hold for a couple of years, before they deter ate and they will need to be replaced. . Factory did not think of the longevity of the windshield moldings. Many, many more people will continuously have problems with wind noise.

51 Structure problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/21/2005

I bought a new 2005 Honda Odyssey ex-l and drove it on only 2 occasions. The first time I drove it, I had the windows behind the front seats down and not only was the noise level extremely high, but it created some kind of vibration or pressure change which caused extreme pain to my ear drums. About 2 weeks later, I drove it again, tried all combinations of rolling down windows but as long as the back ones were down, the vibration/pressure to my ears was intolerable. I had throbbing in my ears for several days and it finally led to an ear infection. I brought this to the attention of darling's Honda (the dealership in bangor, maine) and to american Honda. The dealership has tried for 3 months to try to find an alternate vehicle for me. However, american Honda said they would do nothing and the vehicle design is not defective, even though I have heard similar complaints from others. Apparently ruptured or perforated ear drums are not considered a hazard to the Honda company. I now have a new car I cannot use unless it is too cold to roll down the windows, or so warm that the a/c is the only alternative, because it is a hazard to my health.

52 Structure problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

The contact stated the air bag sensor light stayed on. She received a NHTSA recall 05v344000 concerning the air bag sensor. The dealership replaced the air bag sensor, but the light was still on. Updated 12/11/2005. A hole in the under side of the bumper allowed small rocks and peddles in the bumper. The weather stripping on the rear doors is pulling away and bending outward.

54 Structure problem of the 2004 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/05/2004

Dear madam or sir, while driving, with two children seated inside on the back seats, my newly purchased Honda Odyssey suddenly flashed all the signals on the control panel/dash board, became almost non-maneuverable and abruptly stopped. This happened just after two months of purchase. My wife, who was driving the car, and the two children were in panic and scared not to speak of the trauma and inconvenience they underwent. It put my family in a very dangerous situation once and my family and I feel very bad and insecure about it. Fortunately this did not happen on a freeway or on any busy road otherwise it might have been disastrous for us. We do not want to be in same situation again and we have lost trust in this particular vans machinery due to the fact that it failed so early in its life cycle and more so because this failure was not of trivial nature. Had it been minor defects like malfunctioning of lights, indicators, ac not working, audio not working etc. We would have ignored. We were told that the computer system in the vehicle failed. As per dealership and american Honda the van has been repaired but this happened so early in the life cycle of the supposedly new van that my family and I are afraid and hesitant of taking it on even local roads. As this poses a serious safety risk to the lives of my family and me and may be also others, I thought it to bring to your attention. My family and I appreciate your attention into this matter that is so important to us.

56 Structure problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Problems with 2003 Honda Odyssey. The consumer informed the dealer that the vehicle's windows rattled. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer three times or more since the vehicle was purchased. 57 Structure problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/01/2002

When I first got my 2002 Honda Odyssey, brand new, we noticed that there was unusual static electric shock. Everytime me or my wife touch the vehicle after driving, we get shocked! when I brought the van in for a recall, I mentioned this problem to the service manager. After the recall was done, I asked about the static shock. He told me that it is normal. Normal? he won't give me a remedy. This is one complaint. Lately, I have noticed that my rear alloy rims have weird scratches. But they are not from driving and scraping onto something. It seems that the rims have veins emanating from the center out! my van only has 33,000 miles on it. I have been observing other Odysseys, some older than mine, and they don't have the wear that my rims have. I also don't hear them complaining about static shocks either. I only wished that dealers are as fervent when they are trying to sell vehicles as when their former customers have a complaint/s.

58 Structure problem of the 1999 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 02/22/2002

Consumer stated the sliding door will not shut properly, it keeps popping open. Door ajar light is constantly on. Cause is unknown. Doors have been serviced, switches and latches have been replaced.

59 Structure problem of the 2001 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/25/2001

The vehicle experienced the following: out of alignment, loud bang/ticking, shaking, engine hesitation, inoperative a/c, a contaminated filter with metal shavings, a/c drain tube was rubbing and draining on the steering rack boot, coolant reservoir was empty and the right front seal on the body was damaged due to it being improperly placed, a/c knob was broken, the a/c airflow automatically changed, when the a/c blower motor speed decreased, various dash lights would dim, the hood latch was defective, static shock problem, there was a coolant smell, due to the reservoir fluid level, the sliding door was inoperative, the transmission was defective, the crankshaft pulley and the steering wheel vibrated, the right door seal had come apart, the splash shield clip was missing, the idle speed fluctuated from 750 to 2000 rpm with the vehicle in park/neutral, and immediately after, the mil light had come on. The repairs are as followed: wheels aligned, a/c condenser and compressor evaporation dryer, intake manifold, reinstalled rear evaporator/heater unit, installed a drain tube in the retainer bracket, hood latch was replaced, pcm replaced to solve the transmission problem, removed the broken bolt from the block, the crankshaft pulley vibration is still unresolved, and the slash shield clip has been replaced. Scc.

60 Structure problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/15/2001

I have had problems with my Honda Odyssey 2000 sliding doors since the year bought it brand new. I have taken it to the dealers multiple times. They were never able to fix it. They would not even try when it was under warranty. Both sliding doors work off and on, but the passenger side will not latch closed any more without having to manually push it from the out side. To keep them from buzzing we turn the door control switch off, which is a real safety hazard. No one can open the doors until the switch is turned back on. There have been times when everyone in the car has to get out the drivers front seat because neither sliding door will work consistently. It would be impossible to exit the car quickly in an emergency. The doors can be opened manually only if you are a strong adult.
