I have a 2004 Honda Pilot with roughly 174,000 miles on it. It has been well cared for and the engine seems to run great. I acquired the car about a month ago and upon driving it I noticed a faint shuddering between gears upon acceleration from 2-50 mph. The weeks went on and it is now very scary to drive it shudders terribly while accelerating and decelerating from 2-50 mph. It feels as if the vehicle is going to just stall or possibly lock up and crash off the road I have an infant son and im afraid to have him in the vehicle. The car was bought outright from a certified Honda dealership for over 10,000 $ a few years back,. And like I said the car is barely drivable the steering is very unpredictable and wild it is unresponsive at times when im turning the steering wheel the car continues to go straight. The noise from the front differential area along with the brakes are so loud when going down hill that they can be heard over the radio on level 24-27. I can feel the constant vibration and upset in the front end so bad while driving that I have to mute the radio at times to make sure the vehicle isn't scraping and sparking along due to a transmission lock up cause it just feels like something is terribly wrong. I m too afraid to even go on the freeway unless absolutely necessary because im afraid of being injured or killed by this all too common problem I've been reading about. This fact is very troublesome because I live where the only way to get anywhere is to go on the freeway so I don't know what im going to do. With the amount of complaints on this exact issue im surprised there is no law suit. . . I am going to try to see what I can do to get one started. . . If your product has been proven defective like this obviously has then Honda really needs to own up its not fair how much money we all lose by purchasing this pos for the high resale prices we pay!!!.

While driving to the airport for family vacation, my 2004 Pilot started making a grinding sound every few minutes. When we returned 2 weeks later while driving around town between 20 and 40 miles per hr. It continued making same grinding sounds. Had my mechanics look at it suggested changing transmission fluid and differential fluid, did so but it kept on making grinding sounds. Recently got a notice for another recall on my Pilot, looked online and found there was a recall for the transmission soon after I bought my Pilot in 2004. I was never notified about this recall. Pilot still grinding and getting worse. Called dealer this morning and said that my VIN # was not recalled for this problem. Why am I not getting a recall notice for a problem that Honda knows about?.
2003 Honda Pilot ex-l res; automatic, 112,700 miles. Transmission began slipping while shifting from 2nd-3rd with the selector in drive. Shortly there after at roughly 60 mph on the highway we experienced a jarring downshift from 5th to 2nd gear with a loud mechanical "thunk", then immediately back to a higher gear, maybe 4th. The truck decelerated so fast and harshly that my wife and 2 children were thrown forward into their seat belts and all items from the floor and back seat were thrown into the front of the cabin. This mishap was unsafe on the highway and I could honestly see this causing an accident under the right circumstances, for instance, merging onto a highway. The maintenance indicator lamp ("mil") illuminated and the transmission mode selector began flashing the drive ("d") indicator. We immediately pulled off the highway and parked the vehicle at our home a short distance away. The clutch slipped between the first 3 gears below 40 mph on the short drive home. The dealership pulled code p0780. No associated fluid leaks and the transmission fluid was still pink and didn't smell burnt. 3 service technicians test drove it. As soon as the transmission warmed up, it displayed the same behavior reported above and the last test drive barely made it back to the dealership. Dealership recommends replacement of transmission for $4,293. 00. The truck was serviced per Honda's recommended maintenance/service schedule with Honda genuine fluids and parts. The last transmission/ rear differential service was approximately 9,000 miles ago in January, 2009. This vehicle also had the transmission fluid jet kit performed in 2004. I will also be filing a complaint with the better business bureau due to the unusually high amount of 2003/2004 Honda Pilot failed transmission reports I have read on a number of online forums. Most vehicles that experienced the same failures had between 90k-130k miles. This is unacceptable and should reach class action level.

Under certain conditions, my 2008 Honda Pilot rolls unhindered down hill when the transmission is in park. To date, the foregoing has only occurred on snow covered surfaces. I possess video footage of the vehicle doing so. Moreover, a representative of american Honda inspected the vehicle and experienced the same occurrence. Despite the foregoing, the representative advised that there was nothing wrong with my vehicle. Rather, he informed me that the design of the vehicle's differential was the reason the vehicle was rolling unhindered while in park.

Purchased a 2007 Honda crv ex-l awd on 12/04/06. At 1000 miles I began to hear a noise coming from the rear differential upon turning sharply to the right and left at slow speeds. The vehicle was cold during this time and would cease any noise after driving 5 to 10 miles and warming up. Took the vehicle to the original Honda dealer and the service dept. Promptly inspected the rear differential and stated that it was a little low on fluid. Service replaced the rear differential fluid. Noise is still present when vehicle is cold and turned right or left during low speed. Sounds like a whirring, low rumbling or grinding noise. *Honda Pilot entered for model crv not available in menu. . .

2004 Honda Pilot, transmission problems!!! Honda said we need to replace your transmission. . . We had a flashing d light for many year on & off again. . . They said the recall was done. . My repair record as follows: Honda west augs 1/2003 a intermediate maintenance, throttle body service, rear differential service, ac replace ventilation filters, invoice total paid by us $353. 10. 10/03/2006 had front brakes done at star import service, they noted {no codes stored for engine or transmission. Possibly cleared @ dealer ???) 08/13/2007 star imports service to check trans light flashes on sometimes, they scan transmission for code and stated on invoice none present. . 02/18/2009 Hondatronics service, check transmission operation, changed transmission fluid twice, we paid 198. 13. . June 16, 2009 check d light flashing. . It is now 10/2009 and d light is flashing again and we are told we need a new transmission.
The car makes grinding noise under the hood when the car gently accelerates from below 1400 rpm to 1500 rpm. It started to happen around 30000 miles and happens frequently now (97000 miles). Dealer has replaced egr valve 3 times with no avail and they cannot replicate the problem. Sometimes the grinding noise lasts upto 5 seconds. The tachometer jumps up and down around 1500 rpm while making the grinding noise. The differential fluid was changed but noise still happens.
