1 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2017 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 10/24/2019

For a while now the car has had an issue with starting after the auto idle engine stop has engaged. It is slow to start, the radio and infotainment screen cut out, and there is a popping noise. When we had the car in for service last, we mentioned this and they said they couldn't replicate the issue and to record it happening. I'm supposed to drive around recording everything? this has progressed to the other night my wife was alone in the car and it completely died at a red light, with cars all around her. She was frantically trying to get it started after it said to switch to park and restart. It wouldn't start for 5-6 attempts and then finally started. This is extremely dangerous and to think it could happen with my kid in the car. We will be setting up an appointment to have it looked at again. Also, the shifting of gears in the car is rough between first and second gears. It's always between 25-30 mph when the hard shift happens. It's like the car doesn't know what gear to be in. Again, the dealership can't replicate it and we should record it happening. They did a transmission service as part of the standard mileage service recommendation and thought that may fix it. It did not.

2 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/28/2016

Transmission was making a beeping, whistling noise when shifting gears on city street. My car was not a year old and transmission was replaced with re-manufactured. It is still not running as before problem. I am hearing noise such as sounding like rake being drug on concrete and whistling noise. Dealership says there is nothing that they can do. No lights are on, nor were they on before. Only 12,000 additional miles given with part. (not exceptable to me).

3 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

The vehicle started making noises when shifting gears and the local dealer asked me to stop by a week later for diagnosis. This made me believe that it may not be a big issue as the dealership did not find it alarming after knowing about the symptoms the car was displaying. When I was driving the next day, the dashboard started displaying error messages like emission error and transmission error, started jerking and slowed down abruptly coming almost to a halt. While on the highway with 70 mph as max speed, I managed to take the vehicle to the side and on the shoulder. I was traveling with family, including children, and it was a very agonizing experience. A few days later, the Honda dealership where I left the vehicle fixed the issue by replacing a cap which was causing leak from the transmission. Part number 06233-5j4-000 was replaced.

4 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/28/2016

While driving, I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green I made a right hand turn and started to increase my speed. The rpm's increased at a very rapid rate, but the car did not shift. I was unable to accelerate my speed and there was a whirling noise in the engine. I tried manually shifting into a lower gear, but I was still unable to accelerate without the rpm's rising. I eventually had to shift into neutral three times before the car would automatically shift.

5 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/16/2014

When shifting from park to drive, vehicle emitted audible noise from within cabin and outside that sounded like a cluster of fast metallic clapping/snapping noises. The noise was accompanied and followed by an observed shake and hesitation to engage the vehicle. Eventually, the motion to transition into a zero gas coasting speed, was accompanied by a lurch to vehicles default drive when pulling out of a driveway. The first noticeable incident of this behavior was experienced in the November 2013 time frame, while in a drive-thru at a restaurant, when shifting from park to drive, and after ordering, the vehicle lurched forward while performing this transmission shift. The vehicle is with the dealer for a repeat service call to observe this pattern of shift change behavior. There may have been a few more incidents of this happening, but these two are the most noticeable that can be recollected at this time.

6 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 03/20/2013

Driving at approx. 30-35 mph when without warning I experienced high rpm's and the vehicle wouldn't go into gear. When I stopped the car and looked under the hood there was fluid everywhere, even down the side of the car. After having the Pilot towed to my local repair facility it was determined that the lines that run the coolant had failed and transmission fluid anti freeze had mixed together and were introduced into the transmission. This happened immediately! I had the radiator replaced and the transmission flushed 27 times in order to completely clear the systems. This process cost me $1000 and the repair shop told me they could not guarantee that the transmission would not fail as they had no idea whether there was internal damage or not. Well, it didn't work! the transmission is making noises that it never had before and shifting almost at will. My dilemma now is replace the transmission or replace the vehicle. There is absolutely no way anyone could anticipate this problem or do anything to prevent it because of the way this was engineered. When I bought this Pilot I did so believing that I would be the one to decide when it was time for me to buy a new vehicle, not Honda! I have owned 4 Honda's in the past but this will be my last.

7 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/19/2010

On my 2003 Pilot, I began to notice a vibration/grinding noise while accelerating through 35 to 40 mph. The noise would last for 10 to 15 seconds and then stop. Brought to the dealer and other shops many times over the past year and they always said they couldn't identify the problem. Started having some idling problems so took it to auto service center and had to replace all motor/transmission mounts, and idle air control valve. After we got it back and less than 90 miles later, the transmission started whining worse than before and then acted like it was slipping then bucked violently and the "d" light started flashing and engine light came on. Now the trans mission no longer shifts.

8 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 03/02/2009

I've had vibration/noise issues around 40 mph while in top gear, I've noted accelerating forces a downshift, or I can manually shift to d3. Either action gets rid of the problem.

9 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 12/03/2008

Was driving along a main road in delaware, and my "d" light started flashing. I looked it up in the manual and it said the transmission problem. The light went off after I shut the car off and turned it back on. It has came on a handful of times, but shuts off after I turn the car off and on. I now am experiencing a hard shift, and a shuddering (almost like it is going to stall), and a clucking noise. I have done research and realize there has been many more complaints with this issue in the 2005 Honda Pilots.

10 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/27/2004

A brand new (2 weeks) Pilot with less than 500 miles. I am now hearing a clunking/thumping noise when I shift the gear from d->n and then in to r. This noise is not heard when shifting just from n->r. Looks like this noise is coming from under the hood. I didn't expect this kind of problem so soon in a brand new vehicle.
