As soon as my car hit 58,000 miles all of a sudden my transmission is doing a jerking like if it’s trying to fail, which doesn’t make sense because I’ve never heard of transmissions going on a car so young with very few mileage and then I realized, and I looked it up that Pilot from 2018 2017 and 2019 are known to have transmission issues. Why didn’t Honda fix this issue already?.

On 4-24-25 my engine had a knocking sound. I took it to a Honda service center and they ran a diagnostic and found a rod bearing issue. Their recommendation was to replace the engine and quoted me an estimate of about $9000. I was told to not drive my car anymore and the rod can blow at any time and it is not safe for me to drive back home. I left my car at the Honda dealership. I have done regular maintenance- oil changes, filter changes, tune ups, etc. My car is at 171,000 miles and had no issues up until this. I purchased the car ten months ago. I saw that many consumers complained of the same issue and had got stuck on the side of the road, and paying costly repairs. I contacted Honda today and they told me that my VIN number is not affected by the rod bearing recall and they might try to get me into their "goodwill program" to help me with the cost of repair. I can't drive my car or else I would risk my safety and others' safety on the road. I had to uber home. I don't have a drivable car now, and have to take my duaghter to school everyday. I am a single mom and saved up for this vehicle and paid cash, because Honda had the reputation of being reliable and built to last. Now I am at the mercy of their corporate department for the cost of the huge repairs that need to be done. It is not a guarantee that they will help me. I am glad that my daughter was not in the car with me or anything horrible happened like injury or death. This is a very concerning issue and I hope Honda will rectify this issue soon and acknowledge the safety hazards of this defect.

First received a transmission system issue and took car into dealership for the torque converter recall. Not even a 1,000 miles later I received a transmission temperature too hot signal. Took it into the dealership again and they stated I need a new transmission due to “transmission clutches are burned from not servicing the transmission causing excessive friction making the fluid heat up faster and over heating”. Just got this vehicle a year ago. I believe my safety is at risk because with our other vehicle the muffler got so hot that it burned a hole through the bed of the truck and don’t want that happening in this vehicle with two kids under two.

When shifting to reverse it shifts back to park and it will not move forward or reverse I nearly had someone rear ended me as I backed up from my driveway. This has happened numerous times that I am afraid to drive it. The mileage right now is only 216 miles since bought in December 2024.
There was a small ticking/knocking noise that started the week before I took my Honda Pilot in to the dealer. I took the car in for regular service and told them about this noise. Under further inspection, I was advised by the Honda dealership that the piston connecting rod bearing had failed causing damage to the motor. I had to pay to replace the motor at my own expense. This is a safety issue as I did not really have a warning that anything was wrong with the vehicle and the engine could have seized up and caught fire while I was driving putting my family and other vehicles in harms way. It is my understanding that Honda had a partial recall on this issue in which my VIN was not covered. I was not notified that this was even an issue for the 2016 Honda Pilots and I should have been notified and and this should have been fixed before it occurred. The dealer reached out to Honda corporate to request coverage of this cost and they denied it even though this is a known issue with this motor.
The transmission stutters between shifts. When I apply a healthy amount of throttle input (say 50% or so), the shifts feel very clean and crisp. When I'm at minimal throttle (but I need to creep along) or when I come close to a stop (not quite full stop) and get back into throttle, there is a noticeable delay in power from 1st to 2nd gear. If there's a delay in acceleration, it can create a dangerous scenario where I can't "escape" out of a situation I need too. It's very unsettling. I also feel stuttery down shifts while I'm braking and coming to a stop. The car lurches forward as I'm braking when it tries to execute its downshifts.
Vehicle was fixed for auto start stop under recall. They changed all the parts including capacitors. Within 5000 miles it started happening again. I’ve informed Honda about this from 20k miles. The vehicle now has 165k. I’ve told them on multiple occasions that this is a serious safety issue. They said they have this fixed and they do not. They closed my case even though I asked them to keep it open as they have not proved to me that it is fixed. The only way to fix this is to have Honda program the care to not allow start stop as someone is going to get killed. It’s just a matter of time.
1. )transmission!! problems such as transmission fluid overheating, rpm's boggle up & down while on flat roads at steady speeds, cruise control wont stay activated, shaking or vibration while stopped and while driving. 2. ) mine and my kids safety is at risk when we have to pull over to let the transmission cool and are on a busy interstate. It also risks us breaking down while we are traveling long distance and being stranded in the middle of nowhere. 3. ) I had my vehicle worked on at a Honda dealer in the past 2 months for the shaking, but they did not resolve the shaking or cruise control issue. 4. ) March 30th was the first time the transmission fluid to hot warning has come up. The other symptoms listed above started in December of 24. My vehicle isnt listed as a recall but everey symptom it list I have.

Vehicle stopped with no warning while waiting in traffic at a red light and it took a while to restart. Same thing happened while parked in a lot waiting. The former issue was dangerous as I was in traffic with numerous vehicles moving around me with my family in the car as I got out to check the problem under the hood. The latter issue happened while out of town which is scary and dangerous considering it was a remote area.

Hello, I have owned my 2019 Pilot for almost 6 years. From day one, I have had ongoing issues including over 12 situations in which my vehicle would not restart at stoplights, 4-way stops or other areas (my driveway, gas station etc. ). I have had the vehicle jump started multiple times by my extended warranty company, my husband and neighbor and towed to the dealer. My most recent stall when not even let me turn on my hazards as my vehicle completely died at the stoplight. I have called 911 multiple times to protect me from being rear-ended. I fear for my life driving the vehicle. My kids refuse to also drive the vehicle. Honda does not have any answers for the fix. There are over 1,000 complaints from vehicle owners. Let's do something before someone is rear-ended and killed! look at my service history! my car is a lemon, and has lost value. I deserve peace of mind driving this vehicle and compensation for this never ending nightmare.
About five weeks ago I decided I was going to take my kids to the park. Well, when we got there our vehicle wouldn’t go out of park and was stuck with a check engine light on and an emission light on. So, we had to tow it to Honda and they didn’t have a loaner vehicle for us while they were diagnosing the vehicle so we were without a vehicle for three days and then was called by Honda to come get the car that they cleared the check engine light and it’s drivable. Was told we would need a new transmission if the car check engine light comes on again. So, of course the light comes back on the next day. I don’t believe it needs a new transmission. No signs that it does. So I called the dealership and they wouldn’t answer , all departments went to voice mail. So, I called Honda corporate, and they wouldn’t answer next day thw dealership calls me asking me when I can bring the car back up there. So I brought it up there and got into a loaner this time for three weeks now. Was told last week our car is good to go and I can come pick it up and once I got there the check engine light and emission light was still on so they lied to us the corporate office won’t approve a good will transmission because of documentations that they should already have but don’t. And duval Honda told us to bring the loaner back or they are gonna report it as an unauthorized use of the vehicle which we prolly put me in jail so I asked the gm at duval Honda if he can at least extend it till the in of the week so we can figure something out since we have jobs and kids and no way of any transportation that he is gonna put us on the streets far as walking and he could careless and told us to get a rental car and if we don’t turn the car in then he will report it. So now we are car less. This car is a lease and we never missed a car payment and we had a car before this one which was a lease and never missed a payment as well. We are forced to walk while we still make car payments.

Jerky transmission from 1gear to 2nd gear . Most noticable when engine is cold.
The Pilot has exhibited unusual behavior that seems tied to the autostop functionality when at a stop light. Three times now I will let my foot off the brake and the car completely shuts down. When I try to restart the vehicle, the accessory power turns on but the vehicle will not start. It will start to turn over, but the turn over terminates abruptly and the car completely shuts off. The behavior seems similar to what is in the NHTSA action number pe22005.
This 10 speed transmission is dangerous. It hesitates and jerks constantly. Both up and down shifts will hesitate or drop into gears. While at speeds under 50mph the car will lurch and rock back and forth with some shifts. I'm current on all recalls. Only 23,000 miles. I've taken it in to Honda and did a ride along with the tech and he felt it too, but until there is a check engine light, theres nothing they can do to help me. This is a wide spread issue among owners when you search forums. Please look into this issue and push Honda to release a software update.

While driving got 3 messages. Transmission error, emission error and blind spot error and the vehicle would not go into drive mode. Looking at all the information online there is plenty of reports on issue with the transmission on the 2005-2019 Pilots 9 speed transmission including loss of power when driving which luckily did not happen to me. It is a safety concern that Honda needs to address.
No power it feels like it’s stock.
Water leaked into front floors of vehicle soaking the carpet and the fuse panels in the floor. Yes it is available. Fuse boxes had standing water building up behind them slowly dumping water into them causing shorts in electrical system which could have caused the car to catch on fire. Yes the problem has been confirmed. No the vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than mechanic. The only signs of the problem I noticed was the carpet was soaked and couldn't understand why. The battery died randomly one night after locking the doors. No other signs were noted.

The atf warmer failed. This allowed engine coolant and transmission fluid to mix. This caused the engine and transmission to overheat. No warning messages appeared up until the transmission overheated. A warning appeared about the transmission, but not about the engine. Honda says that they do not think my VIN was impacted by this known issue. And, yet, my car has a textbook defective atf warmer with 100% overlap in symptoms with a known service bulletin issue (17-035 from April 7, 2018).
Slow acceleration at the speed between 0 to 30 mpg. Doesn’t shift smoothly and hesitate. Not enough power on the highway.
I have had a recall that the dealer has renegged on helping me with. About a couple of years ago we scheduled appointments, we missed work, showed up at the appointments for our two cars, only to be told that the parts are on back order. We keep getting the same response over and over. The last time I called a couple of weeks ago, the service department hung up on me. I called back and asked to have the service manager call me. He did not return my call. I have left message for the general manager, and he has not returned my calls. I need my recall remedied. My vehicle sometimes hesitates to start and has acceleration issues.

Shifts hard and accelerates too fast between gear 1 and 2. Dtc permanent codes are p2638 and p170b.
At random times, but seemingly becoming a more frequent occurence, when the stop/start system engages & shuts the vehicle down at idle (at a stop light for example), the vehicle will not restart for a period of time afterwards. This has also happened on the highway multiple times in traffic in which the vehicle will not start for a short period of time. This is a big safety issue and I was almost rear-ended a couple of times in those highway cases. When the problem happens, the lighting on the meter (indicator lights) will randomly flash & the clicking sound from the blinker will continuously go on/off during the timeframe of when the vehicle will not restart. I've raised this concern to Honda multiple times with no support coming back from them since they can't re-create the issue.
- received error when driving that stated "transmission system problem. " - took into a service shop and the code p0741 was confirmed as the error. - took to Honda service repair, they confirmed the issue with the torque converter that needed to be replaced - proceeded with the repairs at Honda (replacement of torque converter and replacement of 2 studs on catalytic converter that broke during their replacement of torque converter) - informed there is a warranty extension for my year/make/model on this torque converter as it has a known issue, however my VIN is not currently included in the warranty extension. My vehicle is in great condition with low mileage (approx 85k miles at time of repair), so I believe given the circumstances my VIN should be included in the warranty extension that currently exists for other vins in my same year/make/model as there was clearly a defect/issue with my torque converter as well. Link to existing warranty extension: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Transmission slipping and motor making a grind sound since like 120k and dash problems and paint chips every were paint is coming off on its own. I did not about that I can do a complete here.
This vehicle has shown juddering and difficulty with shifting gears, especially on an incline, although it rpms will speed up and slow down even while traveling on a flat road at a consistent speed. The Honda dealership stated that the course of action is to drain and fill the transmission 3 times to the tune of $550+ and Honda corporate claims this is "routine maintenance", which it is not. I have an extended warranty which would cover the torque converter but will not cover this fluid. As many other posts have indicated, this is not an issue limited to the 2016-2019 Pilots, but that it extends to 2020s as well. Continuing to escalate this with Honda corporate, and will pull in my state's attorney general for these unfair practices of lack of warranty coverage for a known issue that is due to manufacturing.
Connecting rod to piston broken of damaged. Loud rattle on engine startup and acceleration. Not shifting well. Engine cutting off at stops and not restarting without shifting to park and restarting.
We have always taken great care of our Pilot, regular oil changes, tire rotations, checking the fluid levels. Just before we went on vacation, our Pilot's check engine light came on and started blinking under normal driving conditions. When we hooked up the code reader, it was for a misfire in the second cylinder. Having changed the spark plugs about 30-40k before this incident, we tested the plugs and assumed it was the coil. We changed the coil. After returning from vacation, we drove the car minimally yet after about 40-50 miles, the code returned with knocking sound. We had the car towed to our residence. . . To find the same code. We inspected the plug and coil, no issues were present and the code was cleared. The next day, the code came back on and the engine was knocking very loud and had definite performance issues. I checked the Honda recall page and our car had no open recalls. I noticed that other Pilots with the v6 engine in our model year range were included an investigation by the NHTSA. Our mechanic drove our Pilot for 30 feet and immediately called me to tell me that he would not suggest even spending money on diagnosing the problem. . . . As he believes the engine is a total loss. It seems unfair that Honda would not address this issue as it seems a wide spread problem after a simple google search.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled; the vehicle returned to normal operation several minutes after the failure had occurred. No warning light was illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v858000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission fluid needed to be flushed and refilled. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 35,987. Parts distribution disconnect.
2020 Honda Pilot has acceleration issues also. I forgot to list it in my last post. Loss of power is evident. Shaking, cruise control won't stay engaged. Has trouble climbing incline roads. Gas mileage is crap now. The 2020 Pilots should absolutely be included in the recall.
This vehicle continues to have issues related to a problem that was issued for the fuel pump earlier this year. My fuel pump was replaced, but the vehicle continues to do the same thing. It stalls and jerks while I am driving and does not start sometimes after getting gas. When I am trying to accelerate the vehicle does not go at full power. One time I was going out into traffic and had to reverse because I knew that I would not make it and get hit. In addition to this, the vehicle has an issue with the braking system. Other years have been recalled for what they call ghost breaking, and although this one does this, it has not been recalled. I will be driving and the car will all of a sudden just brake on its own as if there is a vehicle/object in front of me. Sometimes this happens in the same location. Honda is supposed to be a reliable car, but it seems they have failed with this year/model of the Pilot because it has been big issue after big issue.
Engine failure consistent with recall 23v-751, and would like this included in NHTSA investigation rq24013. Lost acceleration and check engine light came on. Pulled off of interstate, turned off vehicle and restarted. Check engine light was off and vehicle accelerated normally for about 5 minutes. Then problem repeated with increased engine noise. Was able to limp the vehicle at no faster than 40mph to Honda dealer in napleton, IL. River oaks Honda of napleton is able to verify the problem. Safety of occupants was put at risk due to large volume of traffic on [xxx] during holiday season and inability of the vehicle to maintain required minimum speed. Symptoms of this problem did appear in may 2024 and was diagnosed as p0369. Front bank camshaft was replaced by hendrick Honda of sarasota. Symptoms appeared again in October 2024 and vehicle was brought to john hinderer Honda of newark, OH. They diagnosed that the intake and exhaust valve lash was out of spec and they performed an intake and exhaust valvestand adjustment. This vehicle was well maintained and serviced by Honda dealers whenever problems appeared. I don't understand why previous diagnosis & repairs, which were costly, did not correctly identify the root cause. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was coming to a stop at a red light and the car shut off . It flashed a transmission issue and emissions issue on the dash. I tried to restart and it would start but not move or let me shift into gear leaving me stranded in the middle of a busy road. It took for an officer to remove my battery cable and then reconnect for me to be able to move the vehicle out of the road and into a parking lot. I had the car towed to the nearest Honda dealership where they saw the messages on the dash. While they test drove it all errors went away and they can’t locate an issue.
On [xxx] we were driving on [xxx] in nashville and experiencing a sudden loss of power and the check engine light started flashing. Thankfully we were able to exit the interstate without incident and there was a mechanic shop near the exit. He found brass flakes in the oil filter and told us that it was likely a bearing failure. We then had the vehicle towed back to the Honda dealership in louisville ky where we purchased it new. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Acceleration hesitation. Car seems to hesitate when accelerating for a few seconds and then all the sudden will accelerate quickly.
On several occasions the Pilot lost power and decreased speed at an alarming rate while I was accelerating to merge on to the interstate creating serious safety problems. The transmission completely died while I was stopped on the roadside 1200 miles from home in a remote area. It took 2 weeks for the local dealer to acquire and install a new transmission.
