Tl the contact owns a 2003 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that the vehicle would not immediately shift out of gear. Also, while driving, the transmission indicator erroneously changed from the drive position to the drive 3 position. While the vehicle was parked in the garage with the engine idling and the transmission in the park position, the owner exited the vehicle. Moments later, the vehicle erroneously began to move forward, pushed against the owner, and pinned her against a storage rack located in the garage. During the incident, the owner sustained a left leg injury that required medical treatment. The cause of the failure was not determined. A police report was filed. The manufacturer and local dealer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 189,000.

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that the vehicle shifted out of gear independently while driving 45 mph. The vehicle was taken to steve padgett's danville Honda (4050 riverside drive, danville, va 24541, (866) 981-4298) where it was diagnosed that the transmission fluid needed to be replaced. The transmission fluid was replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that there may be corrosion at the gear shifter area, which may have caused the wires to short. The dealer replaced the gear shifter, but the repair did not correct the failure. The contact stated that the gear shifter shifted into park when reversing, and shifted into park when the gear was in drive. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 30,536.

I am encountering the same recall issues as other 2003 Pilots. Transmission locks up and will not re-engage while driving. I need to turn engine off while in traffic and restart in order to get back into gear. The VIN search shows no recall, but the same safety issue has caused issues when I get out and push the vehicle off the road. Most of the issue happen when starting from a slow start. The engine revs but will not move, both at traffic lights, during stop and go commutes. Once it goes, it has not slipped out of gear.
While driving in a residential area, my 2005 Honda Pilot slipped out of gear multiple times and finally would not drive at all. I pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and shifted it into park. I waited a few minutes and tried to shift back into drive. The vehicle shifted into drive, but was unable to drive more than approximately 15 mph. I drove the vehicle in this manner for approximate half a mile to my destination. From there I had the Honda Pilot towed to an repair facility. The mechanic inspected the 2005 Honda Pilot and informed me that the vehicle's radiator had failed internally. This allowed the engine coolant and transmission fluid to mix. Subsequently the coolant was circulated through the transmission and had caused damage to it. This is what had caused the vehicle to slip out of gear and ultimately render it unable drive.

Owner of 2003 Honda Pilot. About a year ago "d" light started blinking on the car. Took the car to the dealer and was told that no problems found. About three months latter, car started hesitating when shifting into 2nd - 3rd gear. Went back to dealer and told that no problems found with transmission. The problem became worst and the transmission started slipping out of gear at about 30 mph. I would have to coast to the side of the road and put it back in gear to continue driving. I returned to the dealer and this time they flushed the trans fluid and said that this should fix the problem. Well it didn't. Now the dealer is telling me that there is a transmission failure and it will cost me $3221. 79 to replace the trans (this is after the $1,300. 00 that Honda corp agreed to pay). I don't understand why Honda would take so long to diagnose this problem, it's obvious that there is a transmission problem with this car. Maybe it was because my car was still under the extended warranty when I first complained about the transmission. 2003 Honda Pilot 140k miles. Transmission slips out of gear when accelerating. The "d" indicator began to flash then the car would act like a manual transmission trying start from a dead stop in 4th gear.
