Honda Pilot owners have reported 3 problems related to transmission stuck in gear (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Pilot based on all problems reported for the Pilot.
I was driving wit my family in the car pool lane when without warning my vehicle started braking hard and accelerating, back and forth, luckily there wasn't too much traffic or most likely this situation could have created a serious accident . I got off the freeway and notice the transmission must be stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear. I doubt my Honda Pilot is an anomaly, since there're lot of videos online about this vehicles transmission issues.

We bought a new 2016 Honda Pilot ex-l awd in November 2016 (manufactured in oct-2016) and experiencing some transmission issue when eco button is on. When driving around in about 30 mph, seems the transmission has difficulty in shifting gears as if it cannot decide if it needs to move up or down the gear. Then it seems to get stuck in the lower gear and feels like as if the gears are grinding. I can also feel the gears grinding in the acceleration pedal. At this point, I am able to smell metal burning through the air conditioning - seems like the transmission is getting overheated. With eco off, I have observed that the gear shifts smoothly and swiftly.

I was coasting to a stop when the transmission in my 2003 Honda Pilot suddenly and abruptly down shifted. It was like someone suddenly jabbed the brakes on my car. I took the car into the shop for transmission replacement the same day. The check engine light came on and the drive indicator light started flashing on the way to the shop. Also the transmission stuck in second gear, the limp home mode, and would not upshift. The only way I could keep the transmission from violently down shifting or sticking in second gear was to manually shift through the gears. The dealer replaced my transmission within one week at a little over 48,000 miles because it was under extended warranty. The dealer now claims after my complaint they will warrant the replacement rebuilt transmission for 36,000 miles and three years. This helps, but Honda should give me the same extended 93 month and 109,000 warranty that will be given to numerous other Honda and Acura owners due to a class action suit. Today the american Honda motor company said they will not extend my warranty. Hopefully, someone will start another class action suit for Honda Pilots. The most important issue is that this poor Honda transmission design that is prone to defect is also a definite safety issue since it can take full vehicle control away from operators without notice. Perhaps all affected Hondas and acuras should receive new redesigned transmissions.
