37 Wiper problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

I was driving down the interstate at about 65-70 mph when suddenly I heard a loud explosive noise like a gunshot going off inside the car. The car shook violently and I thought I had been hit, though there was not another car in my immediate vicinity. I was nowhere near an overpass. When I realized I was still going down the interstate on all 4 tires and not flipping end for end and had not been hit, it dawned on me that air was rushing into the car and glass was raining down on my head. I looked up and almost the entire sun roof was gone. It has literally exploded. I took the car immediately to the dealer. I was informed that this could happen again because of a defect in the design. How scary is that? I have been dealing with glass in the car every since.

When the failure occurred, the windows would not defrost, causing a visibility hazard. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (carbone Hyundai, 4975 commercial dr, yorkville, NY) and the thermostat was replaced. After retrieving the vehicle from the dealer, the failure continued. The manufacturer was notified, but no solution was offered. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 6,000.

39 Wiper problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/17/2017

Both the driver and passenger sun visors have suddenly broken and fallen down either completely or partially while driving on the highway, obstructing line of vision and becoming unusable. The break occurred at the same location on both sun visors - the plastic rod broke just above where the visor is screw mounted onto the ceiling of the car.

40 Wiper problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/07/2017

The sun visor broke while attempting to lower it into position while driving. The plastic parts that surround the arm inside of the visor broke. The sound and movement of the broken visor caused me a moment of startled, distracted driving until I could pull over and try to deal with it. The visor will not stay up or down. It hangs in my line of vision and creates a driving hazard. It also hangs too close to my head and creates a physical hazard. I bumped my head on it yesterday while at the drive-through pharmacy. The owner's manual states that a warning (with an exclamation point inside a triangle in a yellow box) indicates that a condition may result in harm, serious bodily injury or death if the warning is ignored. There is a warning on page 4-94 of the owner's manual that states, "warning for your safety, do not obstruct your vision when using the sunvisor. " Hyundai knows that obstructing one's vision with the sunvisor may result in harm, serious bodily injury or death. Hyundai knows that this is a recurring problem with this vehicle and several other vehicles, as they have issued technical service bulletins in the past (08-01-029, Hyundai recall campaign t64) for the same issue. Hyundai knows that this continues to be a problem for several Elantra, santa fe, accent, sonata, and other owners. . Read more...

42 Wiper problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/29/2017

The windshield cracked and the rear view mirror housing broke apart along with the metal piece used to attach the mirror. I was driving on the highway going about 75mph when I heard a loud bang and saw the rear view mirror ejected like a projectile. The glass had several cracks running the length of the windshield, originating from the metal piece that held the rear view mirror. At first I thought it was a rock or flying debris from the road that came thru the windshield. I immediately pulled over and noticed that the origin of the cracks and point of breakage was from the inside of the car. There was no noticeable impact on the outside of the windshield, not even a minor scratch to indicate something had hit it from the outside. There were several pieces of glass on the inside where the metal piece broke off with some glass still glued to it. The piece that connected the mirror to the metal piece shattered into 3 pieces. I am unsure of what caused this, but it is concerning to know this could happen to other drivers.

43 Wiper problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/25/2017

The windshield wipers flew off of my car during a rain storm while I was driving. I was told by the place that repaired it that the dealership didn't fasten them on correctly. When I took my car in for an oil change the service technician said he fixed my recall as well - the car never had a recall repair notice ! air conditioner does not work - when service did oil change they tried to tell me it was going to be 415 dollars to fix the air because the discharge hose is leaking. The discharge hose costs 11. 00 on the internet & valvolene instant oil change will refill the freon in your car for less than 140 dollars. The brake lights all have needed replaced consistently every other month - I'm wondering if there is some kind of short in the wiring?.

While driving on the freeway at around 70mph I heard a loud bang upon looking around realized my sunroof had blown outward from the center. 49 Wiper problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/10/2016

The sun visor on the drivers side broke and kept falling down. I went to the dealer and they wanted $278 just for the part and said they would charge extra for installing. This was way too costly, so I tried taping up the sun visor, but that did not work as the tape kept giving away and the sun visor falling would interfere with my visibility of the road. I took the vehicle to a repair shop and they installed a used sun visor at the cost of $117. The very next week the passenger side sun visor broke and fell down in exactly the same manner as the drivers side (that I had repaired the week before). I decided to do an online search for a replacement of the passenger side sun visor and everywhere I looked I found people who had the same problem with Hyundai sun visors not only my 2007 Hyundai Elantra but other years models of Hyundai and models. This is a real safety issue as the sun visor keeps falling down in your line of visibility and interferes with your ability to see the road ahead clearly and it clearly is an expensive repair and I only have 72000 moles on my vehicle. The interior of a vehicle should not be falling apart especially something like this, without touching it or moving the sun visor it just falls and will not stay up.

50 Wiper problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/27/2016

Visors right and left suddenly fell down and obscuredvision. While vehicle was in motion sun was blinding, but was close to home.

51 Wiper problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

52 Wiper problem of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/15/2016

Passenger side sun visor failed. The plastic that holds it to the ceiling of the car becomes very brittle and breaks. The visor fell into the field of vision when my wife was driving. She decided to pull the entire visor off, severing the wires that it was dangling by. This was a safer option than having the visor fly around on the highway. I contacted the local Hyundai dealer where we bought the car new to ask if there is a technical service bulletin or recall about this. The dealer wasn't helpful and said the replacement would be out of my pocket, and said there's no recall, then suggested to contact Hyundai headquarters. I opened a case with them after informing them that there is already a campaign that exists for the sonata for the exact same issue and a quick google search reveals tons of complaints about this issue in the Elantra as well.

53 Wiper problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/13/2016

The sun visor on my 2007 Hyundai Elantra on the driver's side broke while I was driving. It did not break off completely, but hung low, obstructing my view. I tried to push it back it up and it would not stay for long and continued to fall as I was driving. This is a huge safety hazard as it continues to fall unexpectedly and obstruct my view. It is also a safety hazard to not have a sun visor as it serves a critical purpose in ensuring visibility. The sun visor on the passenger side broke in a similar manner several months ago, however that is not as impactful as it does not correctly cause a safety hazard and visibility deficiency while driving. The cost to repair is nearly $300.

54 Wiper problem of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/08/2016

The visibility on this car is so bad. In 40 years of driving I had 1 accident until I got this car. I have had 3 minor accidents in less than a year all due to backing up and looking out passenger side. When you back up you can't see out of the passenger side in the front due to mirror placement and door frame and in the back due to frame and headrest in same position. I feel this car was designed poorly, I have never had a problem like this before.

The contact placed the sun visor in the correct upward position, but it would not remain secured. In addition, the failure occurred when the vehicle was not in operation. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

56 Wiper problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/29/2016

I was driving on a neighborhood road and the sun visor fell down in front of my view. I have tried to shove it back into place, but it will not stay for more than a few minutes. This is impeding my view of the road and makes the car unsafe to drive. The same problem occurred with the passenger side sun visor a few months ago.

57 Wiper problem of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/25/2016

Sun visor driver side broke during drive (remained hanged on a wire) and blocked window.

58 Wiper problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/26/2016

Sun visor arm on my 2007 Hyundai Elantra driver side broke causing the visor to fall in front of driver face. It cannot be adjusted to block the sun from the front or the side and will not stay in a closed position to give a full view of the area ahead. This causes not only a problem with the visor hanging in your line of vision but also creates a problem with not being able to block the bright sun while driving.

59 Wiper problem of the 2010 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

The drivers side sun visor no longer stays up and is a visibility hazard. Looking on line this is a common issue and some models are already listed for the recall however not the 2010 Elantra touring. This happens at any time while the vehicle is stationary in motion etc.

60 Wiper problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

The passenger side sun visor does not return to its proper flush position when not in use, so it would come into contact with the top of the passengers heads in the event of an accident, creating a serious safety risk.

61 Wiper problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Rear window has progressively gotten more blurred and mottled, reducing visibility. At this point the only clear part is a small section in the middle. Approximately over 3/4 of window is blurry at present. This began over 3 years ago and worked its way from the outside towards the middle.

62 Wiper problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

While vehicle was moving, the driver's side sun visor broke off its left hinge, obstructing my vision. This was startling and very scary, because I couldn't see. Since the incident, the passenger's side sun visor broke in the same manner.

63 Wiper problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/18/2015

The drivers side sun visor does return to a flush position, so it is left partially blocking the windshield when driving and comes into contact with the top of the drivers head when operating the vehicle.

64 Wiper problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/17/2015

The driver's visor hinge fails (pulls loose) during normal operation and then blocks the driver's field of vision by moving to the midway position between being fully opened and fully closed. Had to remove visor to safely operate the vehicle.

65 Wiper problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/07/2015

Car starts but won't stay on, new battery installed, still doesn't turn on, in garage and is being towed to dealership. Windowshied fog constantly, and all f a sudden after 10 minutes and only way to defog---open windows. , happens every am as driving to work on freeway or home at nights. The car is well maintained. Gas mileage is not 33 miles per gallon. Disappointed. Also sun roof doesn't close, was fixed, and still doesn't close all the way without me doing fancy maneuver with switch. Concerned- major safety issue!!.

66 Wiper problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/03/2015

Windshield washer fluid pump needs to be replaced. Per mechanic, this part is not available "after market" and is only available from Hyundai. For this reason, the mechanic believes that this is a common problem which is why the part is only available from Hyundai.

67 Wiper problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

The sun visor on my 2007 Elantra broke, and it happened when I was driving and trying to adjust the visor to shield my eyes from the sun. Specifically, the arm holding the visor in place broke, rending the sun visor inoperable. This is a dangerous defect! this is a major safety concern! I have done my research online, and this is a consistent problem with the 2007 Elantra. Please issue a recall!.

68 Wiper problem of the 2007 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

While driving down the highway, approximately 50 mph, the passenger's visor suddenly came out of the stored position and hung down. It would not stay in place in the stored position. This happened months ago. Last week on 10/30/15, the driver's visor suddenly would not stay in up position and hung down, swinging back and forth while driving, obscuring my view. This should be a recall as it's a safety issue.

69 Wiper problem of the 2008 Hyundai Elantra
