1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/25/2020

2015 Hyundai Santa Fee I bought new, turbo sport. At 26,750 miles the disc pads on all 4 wheels fell off the steel backing plates. The pads in the front were paper thin and the back were somewhat better. The "squealers" that warn you of pad thickness never made a sound. Dangerous situation. I'm a 50 year service mechanics, never saw this before. The pads could have caused an accident with lack of stopping. I'm not asking for money back from them, warning owners not to expect the 50k mileage standard for Hyundai vehicles. I called them at headquarters to warn them of this situation. Could have caused grand mother and child some serious out come as that is the only use for this vehicle. Beware.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/30/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that after the brake pedal was released, the brakes became stuck. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear brakes and brake pads needed to be replaced. The brakes were replaced three times; however, the failure recurred. In addition, the contact stated that the battery warning indicator illuminated continuously. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/28/2015

Vehicle inspection performed by manufacture certified technician. Two issues were recommended by the technician: a) new tires. All 4 tires currently on the vehicle are around 5 years old (based on the dot date of manufacture), and have been driven for over 100,000 miles (based on odometer readings from 2010 and current). B) new rear brake pads and rotors. The inspection revealed rear pads around 3 mm, and rotors showing rust. These are safety issues, which should be addressed before selling the vehicle. Regular maintenance has been performed on this vehicle, but existing records do not specify that recommended fluid/timing belt replacements were performed.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

On or about July 1st 2015 I was about to change the brake pads on my Hyundai Santa Fe. Upon removal of the tire I notice that the brake backing plate was rusted through and was hanging by a sliver of rusty metal. This auto uses a miniature drum brake affair on the rear wheels to actuate the parking brake. In my opinion, if the center of the backing plate rusts away and causes the brake shoe retaining pins to come out the brake shoe could contact the metal drum area which would cause the auto to have it's parking brake engage without warning, locking up the rear drive wheels, which could result in an serious accident. This auto was into the dealer for an oil change in June of 2015 and at that time the service writer informed me that the brake pads needed changing but no mention was made of the rusted out backing plate even though it was obvious that it needed replacement. I also believe that a backing plate should not rust through in less than 10 years. I base this on the fact that I worked for a service garage for over 10 years and have done the work on my own vehicles for over 40 years and in my experience backing plates should not rust to the point of perforation in less than 10 years.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

Rear left wheel had high pitch screeching sound at 50-55 mph tap the brakes and it would quit momentarily and then start screeching again. Stopped and checked wheel on right and left side. Right side was lukewarm to the touch and left wheel was too hot to keep hand on it. I took it to local mechanic and he showed me the pads on the left wheel and they was white from excessive heat because they were not released back from the rotor. Pads had to be pryed out instead of normally coming out easy. Extremely rust corroded cleaned up all rust on pads and bracket and they work fine now. I drove Santa Fe about 60 miles and never heard it no more.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

I was driving about 30 mph after driving about 6 miles at 55 mph and I heard a high pitched squeak. It changed when I applied the brakes. I later stopped and felt the wheels and the right rear was hot. Took the vehicle to the dealer and they determined it was brake pads that were corroded/stuck. They wanted $100 to fix the problem. I got the impression that this happens quite often. I think it is dangerous. In my opinion this could cause a fire. The brakes are not made to run this hot. It should also be covered under their 5 year/ 50,000 mile warranty and they claim it is not.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/22/2013

I had new brake pads and rotors put on my car last year 2012 because the brake shoe fell off on the drivers side. I began to have a scrapping noise in March 2013 and then on approximately March 22, 2013 when I was returning from the doctor's office my car seized when I was at a stop. It would not move forward and I could not turn. Two guys came to assist me to push me to the side of the road and the car would not budge. I had my car towed to goodyear in schenectady. I needed to replace my brake pads, rotors, and pistons. The repair costed $476. 00. The car is now making a scrapping noise again. I have read multiple complaints regarding the brakes for this car and I believe that Hyundai or the state authority should make a recall for the brakes, and associated parts. I would like to be refunded the repair costs for last year and this year.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/09/2012

Rear brake pads are sticking due to known issue with Hyundai. Parts are corroded causing rear pads to ride against rotors causing excessive wear and heat wheel/tires are running excessively hot and pads are wearing out within a few thousand miles. Dealer told customer of kit to replace problem but not covered under warranty.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/14/2011

Lots of squealing from the car for over a month. Brake pads needed to be replaced even though there is barely 16,000 miles on the car. The mechanic I took it to said one brake pad in particular was very worn out. This should not be happening to a car with this little mileage.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/08/2011

My rear brakes were making noise so I scheduled an appointment. The rear brake pads were sticking to the rotors overheating the rotors. Both the rear pads & rotors needed to be replaced. I could not understand why this happened so soon so I called the owner of the dealership. Owner said it was due to the hilly area where I lived. I have lived in the area for about 30 years so I asked why I never had to change my brakes on other new cars I had bought at the dealership until well after 30,000 miles. He had no answer. What a joke! the only conclusion that I can arrive at is that there is a defect and Hyundai does not want to pay for it. This is my third Hyundai and I have not had problems with the other models, a 2002 sonata and a 2010 elantra.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

My 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe will randomly apply the brakes while driving. Very dangerous. The brakes will apply making the car pull to the right or left may cause the car to veer into the next lane. I would need to press on the brakes to make them release. The first time this happened I thought it was the brake pads needing to be replaced we replaced the brakes and the problem did not occur again for maybe a year. It happen so much in 2011& 2012 I did not feel safe driving the car. I took my car to hardin Hyundai 6/09/12 explained in detail that the brakes would apply when I was driving, and the esc light was coming on. I told the dealership that we had changed the brake pads hoping this would resolve the issue it did not. The dealer recommended 3 tires, alignment and pins were missing when we did the brake job and that was causing the brakes to stick. We did what was suggested. This did not correct the problem. The dealership did not put it on the computer to diagnosis the issue. The car is out of warranty now so I took it to an independent mechanic he did diagnosis it with the computer. The esc module is bad. Now I a¿¿m driving with the esc off. When driving with the esc off it doesn'¿¿t randomly brake but will sometimes make a horrible grinding sound and the brakes stick when the brakes are applied. This is not good either. Why require this safety feature in every car if it will fail and cause an accident and if the dealership can not diagnosis it correctly. Some Hyundais have been recalled for this problem so I feel the dealerships should be well aware of this issue. The work order does not mention brakes nor did they try to diagnosis it correctly. Was this an intentional move by Hyundai so they do not have to acknowledge that their esc modules are still failing. I feel extremely lucky that I have not been injured due to this malfunction. Hyundai failed on this issue.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/17/2009

2006 Hyundai Santa Fe had brake pad issues. The dealer discovered that one of the four disk brake pads was beginning to separate. The consumer stated for such low mileage and minimal wear, he believed the single pad in question was a defective brake part.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/16/2009

I have a 2007 Santa Fe with 33k miles, on which the rear right brakes wore through "metal to metal" and I was told the other side was just as bad & needed to be replaced. This seemed to be incredible short lifespan so I did some online research and see numerous complaints of the exact same problem. The front brakes have 60% life remaining according to the dealer. Hyundai said this was normal wear, and it was not covered under warranty. I think its a safety hazard as there was no warning until the brakes were crunching metal to metal and completely gone. They had to replace rotors and pads, at an astronomical $480! but as I'd had the vehicle towed in and live in a remote area, it would have cost me as much to tow it elsewhere and get it fixed.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/05/2008

As I backed out of the driveway my front brakes failed. The front driver brake pad had separated from the brake assembly . The pad was on the driveway. Inspection revealed that the bonding agent had failed. The jenkins Hyundai of bradenton confirmed the defect in the bonding agent-but stated that the braking system is not covered by Hyundai warranty. All brake pads were replaced. I retained the defective brake pad. Updated 02/01/10. Updated 03/08/10 updated 04/29/10.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/04/2008

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe. Left front outer brake pad friction material fell out and was found on ground. Serviced front brakes and found 3 of 4 pads friction material broken away from steel backer. Same condition found on rear pads. Front pads had approx 20% friction material left and rear has approx 50%. Backer plates heavily rusted indicating parting of friction material occurred some time ago. I lucked out by not having to strongly apply the brakes after the pad fell out and before I discovered it. Drove approx 20 miles with the pad missing and steel backer did not touch the rotor (don't understand that). I have all parts if anyone wishes to examine them.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/21/2007

2003 Santa Fe brakes not included in the warranty. Customer states that the manufacturer tells him that brake repair or replacement is not included in the warranty. The consumer stated one of the brake pads separated along the bonding between the brake pad surface and the steel backing plate. Of the 4 brake pads, 3 were slightly worn. The dealer informed the consumer the pads had worn out, however the consumer disputed the claim and stated it was a failed component not due to normal wear.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/05/2007

Grinding and other odd noises when braking in my 2002 sante fe. Purchased the car new and I have replaced the hydraulic brakes once a year since I purchased it. I have complained to two different Hyundai dealerships and to hydundai motor corporation. Itself and was told that I must be a brake rider and city driver. Either of these is true. I have never had to replace brakes every 8-10,000 miles on any car I have ever owned. I was told a complete, full brake job must be done each time because the rotors are so thin that there is little margin for error of over resurfacing. This could cause a very serious situation. I was told by one service manager from one Hyundai dealership that he would never allow his wife and children in this particular car with turned down rotors and that he would rather lay out the hundreds of dollars on constantly replacing the front brakes for piece of mind. I was spoken to like I was an idiot by Hyundai customer service line when I complained and my concerns of an inferior braking system were ignored. I have just had my fifth set of front brakes put on the car and was actually told by a new service manager that between him and I, that the brake pads were made for a small vehicle not an SUV of this size, and that this car was known for brake problems. This only confirmed what I tried to explain to Hyundai as was also told to me by two other private party repair centers. I now refuse to allow Hyundai to charge me almost double the price to replace their inferior, cheap braking system. They apparently put cheap, horrible wear and tear parts in their car, so you will need to replace them very regularly. Resulting in them making a bundle and then some back on their OH so great bumper to bumper warranty. I actually saw their brake pad and it is small.

18 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/10/2005

My 28 month old 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe with 15,809 miles began making a screeching sound in the rear. The dealers service department found that the rear disc pads had corroded and frozen to the calipers, making them inoperative. The service department sand blasted the pads and calipers and lubricated them. My impression was that they knew what the problem was when I described it. They said the problem was normal for that vehicle and was not a defect and was thus not covered under the warranty.

19 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/05/2003

While applying the brake pedal, the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the consumer that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. Please provide further details.

20 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

While driving vehicle suddenly lost power and idled. Dealership serviced vehicle 5 times and replaced ignition coil, mass air flow sensor, and 2 other components. But the failure still recurred. Also, vehicle was serviced 3 times for brake failure. Brake pads and rotors were replaced twice. But grinding continued.
