Failure Date: 10/30/2019

Rear tail lights retain moisture and water, causing the brake lights to malfunction and short out when bulbs are replaced. This issue is visible when the vehicle is stationary and in motion. This issue has caused me to be pulled over by police officers as well as it can cause unsafe braking conditions due to no brake light being illuminated on the vehicle. This is the 3rd time that this has happened with this vehicle. Brake light bulb will be replaced but as soon as it rains or any condensation collects in the housing, it caused the brake light to not illuminate upon pressing the brake pedal.

6 Brake Light On problem of the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/29/2019

I rented the vehicle from enterprise rent a car on may 28. It seemed to run fine then and on the morning of may 29. But about 3. 45p. M. I was driving on city streets in arcadia to my doctor's appointment when I saw a car ahead of me suddenly put on its brake lights. I pressed my brakes, but my car did not slow. I had to swerve around the car ahead of me. Shortly thereafter, the brakes started working again. At the next traffic light, I made a left behind another car. At the next traffic light, I was going to make a right behind the car ahead of me. It was stopped at a red light. I was about 50 yards away, when I pressed on my brakes, but the car did not slow. I pressed as hard as I could, but the car kept going and going and rear-ended the car in front of me. It then jumped back and hit the other car again. It was a frightening experience. To the best of my recollection, I have not caused a traffic accident in more than 30 years. The other driver and I pulled over and exchanged information. Badly shaken, I drove to my doctor's office and told him about it. Upon leaving his office, I was driving slowly in his parking lot because of the brakes,, but the brakes would not work again. This terrified me as the traffic on the road ahead was full of cars. As I went over a speed bump, the brakes came back on. I drove home at about 15 mph, and about 100 yards behind any other car. I was very afraid. I parked my car at home. The next day, I called enterprise to have them tow the car away. Aaa came and did that on may 30.

Reset brake light assembly shorts out every year. This has been an on going issue since I have owned the car and the dealer always seems to be reluctant to repair it. This needs a recall urgentlet!.

9 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/08/2019

Brake lights remain on, stability control is turned off and cruise control doesn't work. This is a safety hazard to vehicles following, a lack of vehicle stability control, an inability to maintain a constant speed on the freeway. There has been a historic recall on this issue - but not for this specific VIN. This vehicle obviously is using the same defective part. Battery runs down and vehicle won't start unless battery is disconnected (due to brake lights remaining on).

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/09/2018

My car had the brake light switch repaired in 2013 before I owned the vehicle under recall 13v113000. Now the brake light switch has failed again. I first noticed the issue when I went to start my car and could not put the car in reverse. This happened seemingly out of nowhere after the car had been parked and off for about 10 minutes. My brake lights, electronic stability control, and cruise control do not work and I cannot shift the transmission. When I called Hyundai I was told that the part was replaced in 2013 so there is no longer a recall option, even though the part is failing again.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/02/2018

Nothing has happened yet but abs, esc, dbc and parking brake light all on. I have looked this up and it seems this is happening to many of these vehicles. I'm just wondering why a recall has not been approved, for all these systems are serious safety issues. I'm bringing mine to the dealership Monday but was told I would more than likely be responsible for payment of this problem.

14 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/10/2018

Vehicle is stationary. . . I purchased this used vehicle a few years ago and have recently had a problem with the brake light switch along with other problems . Key will not turn while in park requiring the need to push in shift lock release button , moving to neutral so the key will turn and start the vehicle. I have found that there is a recall for these exact problems, but when I enter my VIN# ther is no recall listed. Is it possible that this recall was fixed by dealer before I bought the vehicle, and if so, the problem is back can I still have the vehicle repaired free under this recall ? thank you audrey van DE genachte.

20 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

This has been a repeated problem for a long time. Early on I would have a brake lamp light that I would be told was out. We would take the light bulb out and reinsert and it would fix the problem. We assumed it jiggled loose. Then, at a later time, I would be told that the other brake light was out, and we would repeat the process and take it apart and it would amazingly start working again. Beginning in November 2014, taking the light apart no longer fixed it, so we checked and replaced fuses and lightbulbs, but it didn't fix it. Up until this time, the right brake light would go out and then it would be the left one intermittently. Then, as of December 2014, neither brake light works and the third brake light in the rear window has five small bulbs that stay lit at all times, but currently the third light in the rear window is the only light that comes on while applying the brake. Since it is apparently not the lamp or the fuse, I'm wondering if my vehicle is included in the Hyundai recall no. 092, a stop lamp switch recall, or any other recall pertaining to this issue, since I am reading a lot of complaints on this same issue? I am afraid that I am going to be in an accident since it is an intermittent and now, apparently, full-time problem. Please advise because after talking to several repair shops, they are not sure what is going on. Thank you!.

21 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

22 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

I was driving my Hyundai 2011 sante fe at about 30 mph on a city road. Suddenly, I felt that I was cut off, there was no control on brake or the steering wheel (both were too hard to operate). So, all I could do was to drive straight, and I was literally crossing some busy streets (luckily, there were no cars when I was crossing these streets) on red signals, with my blinkers on. Luckily, my CO-passenger kept cool and suggested if I could operate my parking brake, and I tried this, and my car slowly came to a complete stop. At this moment, I put my car on park, turned off the engine. When I turned it back on, I drove back to a safe place (in a mile), called road side assistance and got it towed to the nearest Hyundai dealer. The dealer found no major breakdown (!!!) or any inactive log on the car computer (!!!), only replaced a brake light (which was under recall for a couple of months) and declared the car to be 'safe to drive'. It is still very scary to drive the car (it has been about a week now after this incident), but not sure if Hyundai will have an answer to this.

23 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/09/2013

I was pulling into the parking space in a parking structure. I was already pressing the brake and just began to press it a bit harder to stop the vehicle in the parking space. Just as I gave the brake pedal a bit more pressure, my car sped forward, jumping a cement wheel stop in the parking space, crashing me into the wall of the parking structure. The force of hitting the wall threw the car backwards where the wheels got stuck between the wheel stop and the wall. Hitting the wheel stop then sent my car back into the cement wall; rebounding off of the wall this second time, the car was propelled over the wheel stop and finally stopped moving. The cement wall was cracked and very precarious to those using the sidewalks underneath. My car has significant damage to the front end. Two people on staff at the parking structure saw the entire thing and asked 'what happened?" one of the witnesses said he saw my brake lights on right before it sped up and flew into the wall. Called Hyundai and learned that there is a recall on my car. Although this recall states that it is to replace some sort of brake light switch, the lady at Hyundai said that this type of acceleration was listed as one of the problems caused by this 'switch' that has to be replaced. I told Hyundai that I am now scared to drive my car until it is checked to fix any problems that are going on with the brakes/acceleration. They were so nice! they invited me to make an appointment at any dealership and have it inspected - at my cost. I just can't believe that they are so unconcerned. Anyway, that is Santa Fe tale of woe. Would appreciate help with dealing with Hyundai to get this resolved; or at least have them check it out for no charge.

24 Brake Light On problem of the 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

Driving back home from work and driver behind notified me that brake lights don't work. I checked all fuses, bulbs and seems okay. I found that the brake light switch is defective. I saw recall on 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe but not 2006. Will the dealer will replace my defective brake light switch?.

25 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/18/2013

Faulty brake light switch but was told by local Hyundai dealer and Hyundai customer service that my vehicle was not included in the recent recall. Over 1. 7 million vehicles like mine were recalled. Mine has the same issue, why wouldn't mine be covered under the recall campaign? they told me mine was produced before the recall date! really??? the part is very inexpensive and from what I understand, an easy fix. Why wouldn't Hyundai, and my local dealer for that matter, want to make the repair at no charge in order to keep a customer happy.

26 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

27 Brake Light On problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/21/2013

2003 Hyundai sante fe GLS - drove through a 2 inch deep puddle. Lost power steering, battery light and brake light flashed then a rubber burning smell started. Drove the car for two additional days after the repair shop couldn't find anything. Then driving home from work, airbag light turned on, brake light turned on battery light turned on, all analog instruments failed, tach failed, braking became inconsistent and engine started missing. I drove directly to repair shop, as I made my final turn into the repair shop the power steering failed then the car shutoff. Early report from mechanic is a failed alternator - my third one in the last year. I think I have a larger electrical problem with the car, fans fluctuate in speed for the past couple of years and every time it rains I get flashing brake and battery lights. Losing the power steering twice in three days is a little unsettling. . . ## VIN failed ##.

32 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

Faulty brake switch a/b. Obd codes p0571 & p0504 recorded. Symptoms: brake lights would not light with brake pedal depressed. Cruise control would turn on but not allow a speed to be set. Also esc off light remained on dash solid. Seems to be exact symptoms associated with NHTSA campaign id number 09v122000. We never received any notice of that recall from Hyundai. When I brought it to the attention of my local Hyundai dealership, I was told that recall did not apply to my vehicle. When I contacted Hyundai support I was told the same thing. I see numerous other Hyundai owners who have had this problem were also told the recall did not apply to their vehicle (via internet reports). I believe the recall should have applied to my vehicle. I have replaced the part myself and the repair seems to have corrected all the symptoms. The removed part is a genuine part of Hyundai/kia. It is p/n 92810-3k000. Below the p/n is ">pa66-gf30<" and "infac". There is a red and a green stripe painted across this face of the part. On another face of the part is stamped "6d07".

33 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/13/2012

Brake light would not turn off. Brakes pedal was hot to touch. Cars behind could not tell if I was stopping or going. Fearful of a car fire I had to drive all over town until I could find someone to assist. Previous recall on other VIN numbers for this exact reason. Hyundai needs to expand recall.

34 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/13/2012

When parking in my garage I noticed the brake lights were still on although the car was off. The brake pedal was hot to touch. No amount of pumping the brakes would turn the lights off. Hyundai dealership reported other 2007 vehicles were recalled but not mine. They made me pay out of pocket for a known faulty part. Since they expanded the recall I believe they owe me a refund.

35 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/03/2012

Electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light illuminates, brake lights inoperable. Turning off vehicle and restarting temporarily restores function. Exact same symptoms as NHTSA campaign 09v122000 but Hyundai dealer and customer assistance center claim vehicle is not part of this campaign.
