The brake went to the floor and the car entered the intersection. Second time I hit the pedal and it stopped. Then when I arrived home I tried to park and it happened again. 19 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

I have experienced brake failure on 2 occasions. I took my 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe to the dealer on Monday, March 1, 2010. The brakes were checked completely, and the vehicle was taken on several test drives. The service tech was unable to duplicate the failure. Therefore nothing was replaced or repaired. The first occasion of brake failure was on Wednesday night, February 24th, I was slowing down and getting ready to make a right turn, as I approached the driveway I put my foot on the brake pad, and it went to the floor, and I coasted past the driveway. Went up turned around, with no brake problem. The second incident was on Sunday February 28th, as I pulled into the church parking lot, I tapped the brake to slow down and turn to park, as I hit the brake, my foot went to the floorboard, and I again coasted past where I wanted to turn. Luckily there was no one walking or stopped in front of me. I am concerned that the next time this happens someone will get hurt. And, I no longer feel safe driving my car.

22 Brakes Failed problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/08/2009

I purchased a brand new 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS awd on 4/13/2009. On Friday, may 8, 2009 at approx 5:20 pm I was driving to my sisters who lives 5 minutes away with my son in the car. I had just turned onto the street and a red light was 1 block away. I was slowing down, when I was about two car lengths from the next vehicle I applied the brake it went all the way to floor. I pumped the brake several times with no response. I immediately turned the wheel toward the side of the road to go in a ditch when the brake finally engaged and I stopped. I slowly drove into a nearby parking lot. Tested the brakes and continued to my sisters. Four hours later we were driving home. Still cautious and leaving room between me and other cars. I was completely stopped. The brake let go and my car shot forward. Luckily I hit the brake again and it caught. My son and I both were pulled back and hit the seats by the seat belts. I drove the few blocks home and called a tow truck the next morning. My vehicle has been at the dealer since. They are insisting that I pick up the vehicle tomorrow even though they have not found the cause. They refuse to repair anything because they are unable to duplicate it. I am not comfortable driving a vehicle just waiting for the next brake failure. I may not be lucky next time and may fine myself in an accident where myself and others could be injured. I have seen many reports from others online with the same issues. There must be some defect on the brakes in this vehicle and I hope someone will make Hyundai be responsible and fix their vehicles and back their product before someone is seriously injured.

23 Brakes Failed problem of the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/05/2008

Brake failure almost caused me to skid through a red light that was at 50 miles a hour highway intersection. The car was purchased new 7/18/2007, and was recently inspected by the dealer as part of a 15,000 mile check up at that time I expressed a concern about the car's hesitation upon acceleration November 5, 2008 I was told that my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe had it's rear brakes locked on and the whole rear brake system needed to be replaced and I skidded because they had failed and my front brakes were doing all the work. I was told by many car specialists that this should not have happened with a vehicle under 18 months with only 15,198 miles and that it is a problem with Hyundai's inferior brake system and that it will happen again! I fear that next time, I won't be able to stop and lost of life may occur.

26 Brakes Failed problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/02/2006

I drive a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 3. 5l v6. On Thursday, March 2, 2006, I was driving slowly down a steep, snowy hill in my neighborhood. When I applied the brakes to slow the car in order to maintain control in the snow, the brake pedal kicked back and the brakes would not engage completely. They felt as though there was a mass of something solid blocking the pedal from depressing all the way. I pressed harder on the brake pedal, released the pedal, pressed it again, but nothing I did kept my car from continuing to propel itself downhill. I nearly sides wiped a parked car because, as my speed increased, the Santa Fe slid out of control on the snow. Only by some miracle was the rest of this busy neighborhood street empty. I finally regained control at the bottom of the hill. After that incident, the brakes worked fine. But this was not the first time this dangerous failure had occurred. And that seems to be the pattern of this problem: one or more incidents on a wet or snowy day followed by normal operation. In April of 2004, the original problem developed. Any time I tried to stop on a wet or snowy street, the brakes would slow the car, but not stop it completely. At that time, Hyundai did find a problem. My service receipt says the abs actuator was bad, the ecu was reprogrammed, and the hydraulic unit failed and was replaced. However, this time, on March 3, 2006, even though the Santa Fe brakes had failed in the exact same way as 2 years ago, Hyundai found no problem in the diagnostic it ran and did not attempt to make any repair. They actually told me that this is the way that the abs is supposed to work. I am certain that my brakes will fail again, but until my Hyundai dealer says there is a problem, they'd like me to believe there isn't one. I'll try to remember that the next time I roll down a snow-covered hill.

27 Brakes Failed problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/24/2005

Since the purchase of my vehicle, I have experience problems with the abs system, similar to those included in the recall of the 3. 5l Santa Fe's. I know that recalls are VIN specific, but I feel that Hyundai and NHTSA should look into recalling the 2. 7l lx Santa Fe also. My concern is that when stopping the abs will intermittently activate causing the braking distance to increase. When it activates, there is a rumbling noise and vibration and the vehicle will not stop at a safe distance. At many times, I have run through stop signs or entered too far into intersections at red lights due to the brake failure. Sometimes I have to hit a bump or ice for this to occur, but more times than not, I am on a smooth, dry surface when it happens. I have mentioned this to the dealer on more than one occasion and they expect me to believe that this is normal abs function.

28 Brakes Failed problem of the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/11/2005

While driving the brakes failed. Upon applying the brakes, the vehicle continued to coast, the first time this happened. The second time this happened, it resulted in an accident. Contacted the dealer, and was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. It happened a third time which led to another accident, and the air bags did not deploy. 30 Brakes Failed problem of the 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/28/2003

Brake failure of my 2004 Hyundai, Santa Fe. The car had 1,940 miles on it at the time of the incident. I braked, to stop behind a car that was stopped for another car turning left. The brake pedal went to the floor and my car rolled into the stopped car. Hyundai is denying there is anything wrong with the car! I have been without a car for a month now (without a rental car due to the fact they can find nothing wrong) and they tell me, to pursue the cause of the failure, will take up to two months. One of the three dealer mechanics that looked at the car told me they had this happen before (brake failure, and could find nothing wrong then either). After checking the NHTSA website, I find 4 other brake failure complaints similar to mine since October 8th of 2003, with Hyundai denying there is any problem with the cars. I believe there is definitely a problem with this many incidents in such a short time frame(how many have not been reported to your website?).
