36 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2016

Visors on both sides fall and obstruct vision car has only 28000 miles airbag light stays on , concern it will suddenly deploy. There's loose suspension both headlights and rear lights have had to be replaced already fearful it may be a sign there may be something wrong yet I haven't been contacted by manufacture.

37 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2016

Airbag light on driver's side dash illuminated. Took to mechanic; code read that it was the occupant sensor in the passenger seat (known issue) and covered by Hyundai. Took car to Hyundai dealer to have seat removed, shipped to California, for repair. Dealer states that airbag light will not go off once seat is replaced; it also needs clock spring assembly replaced. This, too, is a known/frequent issue with this age/make/model, however it's not covered by Hyundai. Will cost $400 to replace. This is a safety issue and if it's occurring frequently enough to find numerous forums online with people complaining, it should be a covered/warrantied service performed by Hyundai. Should not have to shell out $400 for repairs. Very upsetting! :(.

38 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2016

Takata recall: airbag light coming on for no real reason and now deale/mechanicr is quoting a huge amount to replace the sensor. When I tried to search online, it looks like hundreds of Hyundai Sonata customers had a same issue. How could government allowed them to sell these cars when they are not recalling their defective parts ?.

39 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

After starting the ignition, the red "air bag" light near odometer stays lit. Orange "passenger air bag off" light stays lit even when someone is sitting in the passenger seat. These lights remain on regardless of whether the car is stationary or in motion. I had this problem once before a few years ago. The dealer removed the passenger seat and sent it off to be fixed. The issue also happens periodically if something gets stuck under the passenger seat. The wires and connectors under the passenger seat are exposed. However, this time there is nothing stuck under the seat and the air bag lights remain on.

40 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2015

Air bag light is on and will not go off. In addition to that, passenger air bag light constantly blinks on/off, even when nobody is sitting in the seat. Vehicle has not been in a accident.

41 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2015

While driving alone the passenger seat belt light keeps blinking and the air bag light in the drivers console came on and wont turn off.

42 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2015

My 07 Sonata had a recall for airbag issue which I took to local dealer to have corrected. The dealer had to ship the seat cushion out to add padding to fix airbag light staying on. After a couple of months the airbag light came back on and I took it back to the dealer and they said it must be an issue with the seat. I've been waiting 2 weeks for Hyundai to contact the dealer to see if the will cover the cost to replace the seat due to the airbag issue. My spouse drives this car with my kids and it's unsafe to have to be driving around like this while they take their sweet time.

43 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2015

Airbag light went on again. Took to dealer for second time and they confirmed there was a fault in the seat belt buckle that trips up the airbag system. Quote is $310 to fix on top of $130 they charged me to determine reason for air bag light.

44 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2014

Airbag light illuminates. Was told by dealership it is a problem with an electric circuit inside the seatbelt buckle and that it can lead to problems with airbag. Checked online and saw many many Hyundai Sonata 2006 and 2007 users complaining of the same problem. On the Hyundai paperwork they wrote: " scanned and found code b1701 driver seat belt buckle shorted needs driver seat belt buckle parts and labor".

45 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

Air bag light came on , so took it to dealer an they said passenger seat belt buckle needs replacement at the cost of 400 bucks. So air bags won't deploy an seat belt may not work. This is dangerous an should be a recall on this vehicle as I see it has happened to lots of people years 2006 2007 2008. When can we expect the recall on this. I would like to get my car fixed. Thanks, michelle.

46 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the air bag light stays on. The contact toke the vehicle to the dealer where it was not diagnosed because it cost to much. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Rwk.

47 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2014

While driving I noticed that my air bag light came on, I immediately went to the dealer. They said that my passenger seat belt is defected. They said the cost of fixing is approximately $500. 00, and the initial fee was $110. I looked online and there has been alot of complaints about this same issue.

48 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

Recently I took my car into the Hyundai dealership for an oil change. The next day my air bag light came on and will not turn off. I have also had this problem with the tpms light. The dealership hooked my car up to diagnostics for the tpms light and said they fixed it. However couple days later the light came back on. They want to charge every time just to look at it when they already looked at the tpms light. I am afraid the same thing is going to happen with the airbag light. They want a $100 to look at it when they should already know Sonata has had several if not hundreds of complaints about this exact issue.

49 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

Airbag light in instrument cluster is illuminated - diagnostic test revealed belt buckle sensor is not functioning.

50 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2014

The air bag light came on so I took the car into the dealer for a diagnosis ($75). They told me there are two issues - the OCS which is already under recall so no charge and the other is the driver side seat belt issue reported by many others here. I was told that this $300+ repair is necessary for the airbag system to work properly. Clearly this should be a recall item or at least repaired at no charge if it occurs. Also, the dealer wouldn't even credit me for the diagnostic fee even though one of the issues is a recall and the other is going to be repaired by the dealer.

51 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

Two weeks ago my air bag light came on. Brought the vehicle into the dealer this morning and they tell me that I need a new passenger seatbelt buckle. Failure to replace this incredibly expensive part would result in the failure of the airbags to deploy in the event of a crash. Also, the state I live in would not allow the vehicle to pass inspection with this light being on. So I can not wait for a recall, I have to replace this part now. Seeing as how many others have reported this problem and it directly relates to the safety of the vehicle I do not understand why this seatbelt buckle has not yet been recalled.

52 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2014

While I was driving a couple days ago my air bag light came on. It has stayed on for 3 days now. I called Hyundai customer service and they stated that the seat belt issue is under investigation. I was informed that since this has not been recalled, I must pay $100 for a diagnostic check and then hundreds of more dollars to get it fixed with no guarantee that it will be reimbursed. This is ridiculous that I must pay for a known safety issue to be fixed because a government agency is so slow moving in forcing a recall. This is a known issue that puts lives at risk. This needs to be recalled immediately and those of us that have paid for it be reimbursed.

53 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

This is the second time this has happened since 2010. The first time was in August of 2012. The front passenger seat was pushed all the way back and the air bag light came on. I did not go to get it fixed right away. I went to get an oil change around October 2012 and my mechanic said that one of the connectors to the airbag had become disconnected. He connected it back but the light stayed on because it was still in the computer. He told me I had to go to the dealer in order to have them hook it up because he could not get the car to communicate with his computer. I took it to pride Hyundai because there just happened to be a recall on the air bags but it did not apply to my car. They said that they could not find anything wrong with the airbag. They erased the codes that were stuck in the computer and everything was ok until July of 2014 when my son adjusted the seat by pushing it back. The airbag light pops on again. I think this is a gimmick of Hyundai by making the connectors either too loose or too short. Of course I do no longer have a warranty on the car. It expired at 65,000 miles because I am the second owner. I keep reading horror stories of how much Hyundai charges their customers to fix this issue. They tell them it is a faulty passenger seat belt assembly. They supposedly fix it and it keeps happening. Something needs to be done about this because it is a safety issue.

54 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Same problem as others have described, passenger side air bag light came on then I noticed the flashing air bag light on the dash (I had a piece of paper in front of it). I'm going by my dealer today but I don't expect any good news. It's unbelievable to me a safety item like this isn't covered warranty/recall. If as others have said, I assure you this is my first & last Hyundai.

55 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2014

I just recently bought the car from a dealer on June 5, 2014. I noticed that the driver airbag light was on and asked the dealer about it and he stated it was an easy fix. However after two visit to the dealer the problem has not been fixed. I also notice that when we are driving and I am sitting in the passenger seat the passenger air bag light is going off and on sometimes it turns off for over an hour. I am very concerned about this.

56 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

I received a letter from Hyundai that my car was under recall (issue with the passenger air bag being DE-activated) & urged me to visit the dealer if OCS light was on. Hence I took it to the dealership based on this safety recall notice. They checked the system and the front passenger seat and said there was no problem and that my system was fine. Less than 1 month later the red airbag light appeared on my dash board intermittently for about a week before it came on and stayed on permanently. I returned to the dealer to have them run a system check and was informed that the issue was a sensor was triggered due to a faulty passenger seat belt assembly and needed to be replaced at the cost of approximately $400!!! I informed the dealer that the airbag light did not come on until after they supposedly worked on or checked the airbag system due to the recall in the 1st place. I was told that this had nothing to do with the recall issue and that I would have to pay at my expense because it was not covered by warranty. Because I did not have $400 just laying around to spend, the problem has not been fixed yet and now my vehicle has failed the safety inspection due to the airbag issue!!! if Hyundai has a manufacturing defect should it not be their responsibility to inspect it to see if the recall is applicable instead of charging the customer for it? secondly, if this investigation proves that Hyundai has installed defective safety equipment in these vehicles across the board, shouldn't every customer who had to pay out of pocket expense to have the seat belts replaced be fully reimbursed?.

57 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

First experienced two occurrences of passenger airbag warning that had to be repaired by replacing bottom of seat and reprogramming. Then the instrument panel airbag light came on and has stayed on for a year. The dealership told me that it may be the pretensioner or it may be something else and to expect to pay about $600.

58 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Driver side airbag light has been illuminated since I purchased it 3 years ago. It pulls a b1701 code involving a bad seat belt sensor. $500+ to fix.

59 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2013

Hyundai had recall for airbag light. I took it in for the recall November 2013 and they supposedly fixed the problem. Less than a month later-December 25, 2013 my air bag light went back on. Took it back to dealer who said it's not the airbag problem, but seat belt-code b1706 for passenger seat belt-said the seatbelt needed to be replaced. Asked if this was covered as part of their recall as it seems to be safety issue? I was told no-I was responsible to replace it-approximately $250. 00. Airbag light is now off-seems like it is working, but tech said they did not guarantee the airbag would deploy if in an accident! I told him it should be a safety issue then and they should be responsible for this. He said no--my problem. I have grandchildren who ride in my car sometimes and I have no choice but to fix it, but again-it seems to be related to the air bag recall since it triggers that light and they will not guarantee the airbag will deploy if in an accident--I feel Hyundai should be responsible for this. If people do not fix this and have an accident, there could be a loss of lives due to this problem. I feel Hyundai should be responsible-seems to be a large defect from what I see on line-lots of problems with airbags/seat belts.

60 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2013

Air bag light stayed on at all times, with and without passenger present. Dealer claimed it was not related to ongoing recall, but driver side seatbelt pretensioner, which was replaced for $267. A half year later, the light came back on and stayed on, intermittently. Dealer checked it out, but on that occasion the light stayed turned off. However, when I drove out of the dealer's lot it turned back on and has stayed on since. I have tried to ignore it, but the recent recalls make me verey nervous.

61 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2013

The red air bag light is on steady since about 22 November and does not go out. We had this same issue in may 2010 and it was the driver side seat belt buckle sensor costing about $350. Looking at this issue on the internet it appears this is a known and very common malfunction. As such it should be something the company pays or reimburses consumers for in a recall for these issues.

62 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2013

I have been having ongoing problems with the front passenger seat belt, since I first noticed that the air bag light was on constantly. This started in Sep. 2013, when the mileage was 82000. The scan test found code b1706 (buckle assembly open short). I went to the dealer (autonation Hyundai mall of georgia) and I was told the buckle had to be replaced (aprox $280), and it was not covered under the warranty. I told the service rep. That I couldn't afford the repairs at that time, so refused to have the buckle replaced. I don't see what replacing the buckles would do, if there is an open short that is causing them to shorten out. Hyundai currently has a recall for airbag light (issue with the passenger air bag being DE-activated). I took my car in to the dealership for the recall today, and they are going to ship the front passenger cushion seat to California to fixed the problem for free. However the issue with the front passenger seat buckle assembly is still not being covered. After reading all the complaints from owners of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata, for the same issue, how can there not be safety recall regarding this issue? there is no guarantee the airbags will deploy in an accident while this problem exists. Does someone have to be seriously injured or killed before action is taken? many thanks for your help!.

63 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2013

There is an airbag light on in my 2007 Hyundai Sonata. I received a pamphlet regarding a class action lawsuit against Hyundai that my vehicle qualified for a "free" recalibration to "reset" the airbag light. I called my local dealer, got the car in. They said that the airbag light was on due to a faulty seatbelt, and they would have to remove the entire seat, send it to California and it would cost me $300. I said that I would need to speak to my spouse, and they charged me $70. 00 for the visit for them to "diagnose" the problem. . . . . I think this is absolutely ridiculous. I also see where there are several complaints online of the very same issue my car is having. Also. . . . I intend to fill out another complaint form for a 2006 Hyundai Sonata we own, that is having the exact same issue. Something needs to be done about this, and not a the customer's expense either. Obviously it is an issue Hyundai should be taking care of.

64 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2013

Vehicle air bag light display fixed once under recall vehicle air bad light display fixed second time in 2013 at a cost of over $800 dealer insisted this was not covered under recall vehicle air badge light displays again scheduled for 3 attenpt to fix with dealer on 2. 19. 15.

65 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2012

The air bag light on my car started to come on all the time. Also when no one was in the passenger seat, the seat belt light would continue to flash. Research on this problem brought me to this recall: NHTSA campaign number: 08v161000. I contacted Hyundai motor America and they said it was probably in the recall. As they directed, I took it to the dealer and they ran my VIN to see if it was in the recall set but it was not. They also checked the air bag system and confirmed it was the issue dealt with on the recall but they would not cover the cost of the repair ($1,200) because it was not recalled. About that time I received a class action lawsuit dealing with calibrating the air bag system. This lawsuit only covers calibration and not repair which my car needs. As I communicated my concerns to Hyundai motor America, they basically told me that because the car was out of warranty and because the class action lawsuit would only deal with calibration, it was my cost to repair. To me this issue is clearly in the area of defect in material from the manufacturer and not caused by my actions or neglect. And since hma repaired the recall vehicles with the same problem regardless of the warranty of the car, and mine was outside the VIN set, I request that the recall be examined and expanded to include my vehicle and any others that have the very same issue but fell outside the scope of the original set. I find it hard to believe that hma would turn it's back on a clear safety issue that has been described and repaired in so many other similar cars, just because it falls outside of a technical scope of VIN numbers.

66 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2012

2007 Hyundai Sonata. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle airbag issues. The consumer stated the air bag light illuminated. The consumer had an issue with the air bag light illuminating in October 2012, where the dealer replaced the seat belt buckle assembly.

67 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2012

Air bag light would come on for a few days then go off. Now it is continuously on. Dealer said that both seat belt buckles need to be replaced. I though any seatbelt issues had no warranty end date. They want $550 to repair. I hope my air bags work if/when needed. There seem to be many such complaints. Seems this should be a recall issue.

68 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

The air bag light on the dash above the steering wheel was coming on and off for several months and is now permanently on. In may 2013 I called the Hyundai assistance center and was told there was a recall and to schedule repair with the dealer. When I called the dealer, they informed me that there is no air bag recall for my vehicle. After another 30 minutes on the phone and on hold with the assistance center, I was informed that there was indeed a recall but that it applied to the light above the radio indicating that there is an issue with the passenger seat air bag and the detection of a small child. After a $60 diagnostic test, I've now learned that my air bag light is due to some sort of seat belt issue, which will have to be repaired at my expense. This appears to be a common issue and should be addressed by Hyundai.

69 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated upon starting the vehicle. An authorized dealer and the manufacturer were notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 08v161000 (air bags). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000.

70 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2012

Airbag light can after 20 minutes of driving. Found out that the seat buckle on the right passenger side of the car was the problem. As a rule that seat is empty except for my briefcase. Don't understand why the seat buckle was the cause of the problem. The car has never been involved in an accident. In 2009 the car was recall for problem with the airbag sensor for that seat.
