While driving down a residential street, I received a notification that my car essentially was no longer charger and would cut off. I was prompted to pull over and stop the car. I cut the car off. When trying to restart, it would not cut back on. After about 20 minutes, it did restart but the check engine light was on. I ahve not driven it since. There is an outstanding recall on this car that has yet to be remedied and thus far Hyundai has not provided any solutions.
Back in may of 2020 my car out of the blew lost power and my check engine light started flashing. I immediately pulled over, I got my car towed to my closet dealership and they stated it was the computer system. 4 months later, three days after my oil change my car completely shuts off and my engine started making this crazy noise. Dealerships says my enigne is blown, I really dont understand how that happened. They want 6,000 to fix my engine and I cannot afford that especially now. Theres something really wrong with these engines and its not safe nor fair to what yall are doing to people. I was even told by the dealership the Sonatas have really bad engines.
Check engine light flashing, vehicle will not go over 20 miles per hour and jumps. Started suddenly when in motion on road.

My car consumes a lot of oil and gas. . Check engine light will not stay off. My gas cap will not click at all for some reason. I believe this car is malfunctioning and has ruined my engine. My car started rattling really loud while accelerating on a busy road, I was scared.
Yesterday I was driving and out of nowhere my car shut off and all the lights came on but the crazy part is. The car still was moving and didn't stop until I stopped and pulled over. (so weird) I turned the car off and started it back up. It came on with no problems but no check engine light is on and it's flashing. I never see a flashing check engine light. Back to the story I'm driving but I can only go a certain speed or the car would stall and jerk like it's about to cut off. I did not repeat did not stop until I made it home lol. The whole time driving it kept stalling. In order for me to get home I had to jump on the highway but I took back roads just because I was scared the car would stop on the highway. O and don't let me stop at a red light hunni, it's taking its time to get up some speed. This the second or third time it did that but this time the check engine light came on. Is this under a recall? if not it definitely should be because that was so damn scary driving. That was the longest 23 mins ever lol.

The engine in this particular model is Hyundai's 2. 4l gdi (theta ii). The engine seized without warning even though it had the software update that detects engine wear and prevents engine failure while driving. Hyundai did well and replaced the engine under warranty and provided me a rental vehicle. 8,000 miles later with the same vehicle now the check engine light is flashing and acceleration is dramatically reduced. I was able to take some backroads with little traffic to a local Hyundai dealership and am waiting for diagnosis again. This started on a very busy local highway.
I was driving down a city street when all of a sudden my 2013 Hyundai Sonata stopped on me. It was like the engine cut off, all the car lights came on--the check engine light, eps light, etc. All the lights came on at once and the driving wheel locked on me, it was extremely hard for me to turn the wheel at all. I was pressing on the acceleration pedal because the car was stopping in the middle of a city street where other cars were passing by me. However, I was unable to accelerate or press on the brakes on the car, I was able to coast the car to the side of the road. Once the car was on the side of the road, I tried to crank the car back up with no luck. I was able to get the car "on"--as in being able to listen to the radio but the car would never fully turn over. When trying to get the car to crank up I began to notice smoke coming from engine and a spark coming from the engine would light up a little every time I tried to get the car to turn over. I also noticed that the hood of the car also smelled like burnt metal when I was able to get the car on the side of the road even before I tried to restart my car after it cut off on me. The engine completely stopped on me in the middle of the road. All my maintenance and services with my 2013 Hyundai Sonata were up to date. I had got my car serviced less than a month ago before this happened to me, the engine seized. After repeatedly trying to start the car with no luck. I had to call aaa to come and tow my car.
While driving along a major roadway at 60 mph, the vehicle simply shut off and much of the lights such as check engine, etc lit up. I lost all power and brakes and coasted to a side street. The car would not start again and began heavy smoking. I had it towed to my mechanic who stated the engine had locked up. There were no warning signs, check engine light, or any other indication there was a problem.
About 3 weeks ago around 6am I was driving to work while on the highway when suddenly the check engine light pop up and the throttle pedal went down and it won't pedal or move no more. Didn't know what was going on until my car was towed the dealership place where I was told is a recall. Two weeks after I was called that my car is ready and good to go but unfortunately before the car got to my place the check engine light is back on and the accelerator pedal don't move normally again, when you are on motion and you try to change lane or overtaking the pedal won't move until you force it with pressure and if you happen to be at traffic lights the same thing will happen, the car don't move normal again. I took it back to the dealership and explain what happened to them again and they took the check engine light off that it should be fine after but alas the problem is worsening day in day out and my safety is on the line now. Initially I was told they are going to replace the engine but I realized they didn't replace the engine instead some parts were replaced and that makes it worse than before. Driving the car now is at the high risk for me or other road users because I don't know what could happen next. The check engine light is still on and the pedal still not moving well and especially when you are moving uphill. Please I will like this to be investigated because I don't if other people have experience similar problem.

I was recently driving down a busy road and my car just stopped out of nowhere no warning signs no check engine lights nothing Hyundai is stating they have never heard of this issue which after doing research is an extreme lie and is refusing any help since I am not the original owner I'm also being blamed for poor maintenance since I don't get my maintenance done at a dealership but my maintenance is done on a regular basis I've had electrical issues that were swept under the rug having my brake lights melt constantly after having the harness changed multiple times the only way they don't is by using electrical tape and taping them so that they aren't safely turned in like they should be.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the engine stalled. The contact pulled over to a close by parking lot. The contact bought a new battery but the vehicle did not start. The contact then bought a new starter but the vehicle still did not start. An independent mechanic was contacted, who came to the vehicles location and diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not part of the warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case number was not provided. The approximate failure was 82,000.
Going down the highway at about 75 mph and the engine just shut off. The check engine light and the oil light along with an eps light came on when the engine shut off. No other lights were on before that. Came to a stop and the engine would not crank back up. Had the car towed hour and half back home and was told the engine was seized up. It did not give any kind of warning and has not been able to start at all since. I learned about the recall and towed the car to Hyundai 7/21/17, even though I never got notification of a possible recall for this issue. Apparently they had 5 recalls listed under my vehicle, and I had only gotten a notification for one, which was the shift cable issue. Still waiting for a response from Hyundai.
When I start my car, put it in drive, and proceed, the car will jerl. As. Ifnits struggling to change gears. It usually stops after a minute or so. It doesnt always happen, but its occured twice today and the check engine light finally came on. Im up to date on my oil changes, have had my transmission fluids flushed and the problem still persists. It shows that there are no active recalls, however ive heard from numerous people that these cars are known for engine problems.
Philadelphia, PA. While running a few errans my car's check engine light came on. I decided to shut the car off and start it back up. The check engine light went off and everything seemed fine. After about 30 minutes the car died out completely while driv8ng. Luckily I was able to let the car coast in a semi safe place. After the car stalled and began to smoke the car tried to start multiple times on its own and the smell was unlike anything I've smelled. In addition, I've been battlinng Hyundai to set up my blue link which they did not! lastly, I was actually able to capture this ordeal on my dash cam!.
On 10/13/15 while driving to work this car stutter when slowing for a stop light. The car did not stall so I kept on driving. On 10/16/15 while taking my daughter to school I was crossing the man-o-war and lyon drive intersection and the engine stopped running. I coasted across the intersection and got the car to the side of the road. I put the car in park and restarted the engine. The engine went on running as if nothing had happened. On 10/18/15 I decided to look the engine over to see if I could see why the engine stopped. I checked the oil and discovered that the dip stick showed no oil. I added 2 quarts of oil I had on hand and the dip stick now showed that the engine had oil, but it was still below the low mark on the dip stick. That day while driving the car the check engine light came on. My wife took the car into the dealer to change the oil and determine what the check engine light was for on 10/20/15. They changed the oil and said the check engine light indicated that I needed to replace the "exhaust oil control valve". On 10/22/15 the engine started acting funny. My wife took the car back to the dealer, on 10/23/15, and they said the engine was full of sludge and we needed a new engine. I did not believe it and wanted a second opinion. My wife barley got the car home. That same day I had the car towed to another service facility and they confirmed that we needed a new engine. They are now replacing the engine.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at approximate 30 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator petal was depressed. In addition, when parked, the vehicle had a delayed start when the key was turned to the start position. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 52,772. Jo.
Engine began to knock. Minutes later the engine seized requiring a tow. Hyundai service reported that a bearing failed resulting in engine damage. Prior to this the car did not report oil pressure lights or check engine lights. Hyundai is covering the replacement parts, but not the labor. The failure mode of the vehicle is as described in the current recall campaign effecting the 2011 and 2012 motors. I contacted the customer service line to see about getting my vehicle covered. It is a 2013, but was an early model year build in 2012. The car has been under repair for over a month because of the scarcity part as a result of the 2012 recall. My feeling is that my car should be included.
I was pulling up to a stop light and my car made a jerking motion, as it had did one day prior as well. I looked at my dash and the eps light, battery light, check engine light, and one more light came on. I tried to drive the car forward and it began to roll back. I turned the car off to try and restart it, but the break would not push down for me to turn it back on. The car was towed to a dealership where I showed two service technicians the photo of the dashboard that I took, and both said that my engine had cut off. They kept the car overnight and drove on it to try and recreate the problem, along with running multiple tests, and nothing showed up.
