The vehicle shut down on 4/23/21 while sitting at a red light on a city street and became inoperable. The battery was jumped off and some wires started smoking and the engine would not turn over. The vehicle was towed to the residence, and the battery was replaced. Once the new battery was installed, the engine lights blinked continuously, but the vehicle would not start. The starter was replaced on 4/25/21. The vehicle started and was taken for a test drive on the highway and ran for about 5 minutes before it began producing a knocking sound. The vehicle shut down again on the highway, and when it was started again, there was a loss of power and acceleration. The vehicle coasted to the driveway of the residence, then needed to be pushed back into the residence. The vehicle would not start again and made a clicking sound. Wires were also smoking again. The vehicle will be towed to a dealership on 4/26/21 for diagnostics.
While driving home I heard a ticking sound that had sounded like the ticking when the oil gets low, but I had got the oil change done about 2 months ago. The next morning I had a important appt and while driving on the freeway there I heard the clicking turned into a very hard clanking sound while I pulled off the freeway cause it was a scary noise I went to pull over and the power surged like it was going to shut off so I immediately turned it off. After a few mins I tried to turn it on and it was making the sound still when I pressed the gas pedal it only went louder, I then turned it off and had to walk to the closest store that sold oil and walk all the way back I recently had heart surgery and I had stroke 3 weeks ago I can not be over exherding myself like this when adding the oil it made no difference the clanking sound got worsen and now I'm without a car when I have important apps to go to along with my terminally ill child there is major issues that need repaired immediately.

1. Steering wheel: makes a clicking noise when making any turn; sounds like loose change 2. Car stops while driving: as I was driving the car shut down on me, only thing working was the electric (radio still plays).
I was driving my car and stop at the red light then the car died. Smoke was coming from the engine. The motor will not turn over. The car will not crank. These past few months the engine disappeared before next scheduled oil appointments. There is a clucking noise in the engine at times. This happen on July 4th 2019.
Takata recall back in may I discover a noise from my engine a ticking noise I was worried so I took it to the dealership to get looked at I was told it was my brakes so I paid to get the work done but Saturday morning I got up to warm my car up to go get an oil change I notice a knocking sound from my engine along with the ticking noise so I told him I'm going to call the dealership so I arrive at walmart my car cut off while in motion the engine and the oil light came on when I just got an oil change Saturday so I had it towed to my house what I'm not understanding from the dealership if I have these recall on my vehicle campaign 174,162 shows complete but how when my engine gone I called the dealership and explain my problem with my vehicle and was told they automatically check to see if your car have recall and fix the problem ok my question to her is why is my airbags not fix it's a safety issue it's shows complete for campaign 162 but my engine gone I have several recalls on this car needs answers.
I've had the car since July of 2017 and about 3 months into owning it I noticed a loss in power during acceleration. I also noticed that while it's parked, after it's been driven, the car makes a popping sound in the engine area. Recently I was waiting in traffic at a stoplight and the car shuddered and acted as if it was going to shut off but then smoothed out. It has happened twice more during idling since then. When accelerating from a stopped position the car doesn't shift smoothly.
On July 10,2018 I took my 2013 Hyundai Sonata limited to mccafferty Hyundai service in langhorne, PA for a routine front brake job. As I drove home afterwards I notice a pulsing when applying the brakes. I called the svc dept and was instructed to return. I was then told I needed new rotors even though they had just done my brakes. Driving home after this visit my car began stalling when I would come to a stop. In the ten minutes it takes me to get home my car stalled 9 times, and by the time I got to my street there was smoke coming from under the hood. On this visit to the svc dept I was told the starter had failed and need replaced and that it had ruined the battery, so they replaced both. I drove the car for a little over two weeks and on July 26 it began make a heavy tapping sound during acceleration, but would subside when idling, so I made another appt. For July 30. On the morning of July 27 I got in my car to go to work and when the engine started there was a chirping sound and the tapping sound became louder and more constant and was accompanied by a rattling along with the chirping so I drove right to mccafferty. I am now being told that I have metal shavings floating around in the bottom of the engine and that Hyundai has been having some issues with these engines. So now my engine is being replaced.
Hear a clicking noise around 2000-3500 rpms, and going up slight inclines. It's about 4-7 clicks back to back.
I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata and I'm constantly having to change the back/front lights. They keep going out and the light bulbs are cheap. The back tail light has melted the socket and plastic so now I have to purchase a whole new one. Also everytime I turn the steering wheel there is a really bad clicking sound and the engine also stalls and the thing goes all the way between 3 and 4 and then the car finally jerks and moves forward.
I have been noticing a exhaust smell every time I start my car, it gets worse after I drive, then get out of the car. . . I can't stand on the passenger side of my car because the smell is so bad. Its a 2013 I get regular oil changes and check ups. . . Also, I have noticed when I put my car into gear there is a clunking sound.
While I was driving on the freeway going 65mph, the vehicle began to make a ticking sound with no warning or indicator lights being illuminated. The vehicle then began to lose power and would not accelerate past 2000rpm. I then pulled off of the freeway and went into a parking lot as soon as my vehicle stopped all of the indicator and warning lights illuminated and the car shut off. When restarting the car the ticking is now alot worse and the car shuts off right away. I then had the vehicle towed to my house and I am having it towed to the Hyundai dealer for inspection.
On April 4, 2017 I was driving down a busy street in noon traffic, when my Sonata lost power. Startled, I tried to re-start it and it would not make a noise. Turned on flashers and called for tow. Once the car was in my driveway it tried to start it again, and it turned over once and went silent. My son is a trained mechanic, so he came for the weekend and it started for him. So, he put it in gear and the engine began makeing pinging/tapping noise. He was going to bring his diagnostic equipment this coming weekend as he suspected major engine issues. I found out on Monday, April 10, 2017 from a consumer law attorney at our office that there had been a recall on 2013 Sonatas and other models for engine failure. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 75 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted, but the failure continued. In addition, an unknown clunking sound emitted from the engine. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there were metal shavings present inside the oil pan and the engine needed to be replaced or rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v568000 (engine). The failure mileage was 82,000. The VIN was unavailable.
There was a loud clicking noise and when taking our car in there was no problem at the time. All of a sudden there was a horrible loud knocking noise and then there seem to be no power when trying to drive it. When having a mechanic look at it they said that the piston was lose and also it looked like there was a problem with the flow of the oil that was going in to the engine. Basically he said the bearing failed and that's why our car stalled. Luckily it stalled while we were in our neighborhood. His conclusion was that we would need a completely new engine. It hasn't been drivable for months now. We can't afford to replace the entire engine.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 30 mph, a clicking sound was heard coming from the engine. Also, a rubbing sound was present while making right turns and the engine revved. The dealer could not duplicate the issue, but the air conditioner was repaired due to a leak and the habitual and ignition switch were replaced; however, the noises were still present. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Tapping noise inside engine compartment especially when cold on the initial start also engine shaking only has 43000 miles on the car odometer reading.
I was driving the vehicle on interstate 95 traveling at approx 70 mph when I felt a couple small jerks followed by a tapping sound from the engine which got louder and a sudden loss of power. I maneuvered to the shoulder where the vehicle lost all power. I lifted the hood and oil was everywhere. Vehicle was disabled, towed to pohanka Hyundai. The diagnose from their service dept was "a blown engine" I was informed that something"probable piston rod" went thru the block and oil pan and that a new engine was required. Unfortunately, the vehicle is out of warranty however, is/was regularly maintained, oil changed just 700 miles prior. There was no previous warning of any issues, no tapping or sudden loss of power, no indication. I do have a customer copy of the dealers findings and recommendation.
Engine knocking and clatteriing noise when engine on.
Clattering noise, chatter? noisy! concerned with problems. Approx. 31500 miles!.
Takata recall - on Nov. 16, 2013, I purchased a new 2013 Hyundai, Sonata se from a Hyundai dealer in turnersville, NJ. At time of possession of the vehicle, the salesman made a point to lift the hood & informed of a slight tapping noise coming from the engine. He said the noise was coming from the fuel delivery system. The noise has gotten louder. Each time I took the vehicle in for service, I told them about it & I was told nothing was wrong with it. The vehicle currently has almost 15,700 miles on it & taps quite loud. I took the vehicle for serving on 12-29-2015 & again I mentioned the engine tap. When the service was complete, the technician at the dealership told me the vehicle had an engine knock and that I needed a new engine. He said something is wrong with it & said it is covered under warranty. He said the dealership would call when the parts came in. He said nothing about a recall. I went on-line & typed in "what causes a 2013 Hyundai Sonata engine to knock. I found that the 2011 & 2012 Sonatas have been recalled by takata. Because over 470,000 engines in just the 2011 - 2012 Sonata, how long will I have to wait to get a new engine? most reported their Sonatas engines stopped working without notice, how long before my engine just stops working without warning since we already know the engine is knocking? I drive rts. I-76; I-42; I-95 & the walt whitman bridge every day for work. All traffic on these highways and the bridge are moving at a speed between 60 to 90 mph. If my engine stops without warning while I am driving to or from work, I will be killed. I have not heard anything back from the dealership. I have called and left a message for the technician, who told me the engine needs to be replaced and he never got back to me either. I am not aware of a recall on the 2013 Sonata 2. 4l engine. They have only recalled the 2011 & 2012's.
I have had numerous electrical issues with my 2013 Sonata. First the radio stopped working shortly after purchase. Dealer replaced, no issues. Happened a second time, replaced again. My headlights have been replaced 3 or 4 times each and tail lights twice. Biggest issue has been the electric door lock on the driver's side - it does not lock using the fob or the exterior door handle button. Dealer at first tried to tell me I was nuts, in a very condescending manner, and then he experienced it. The transponder in the door lock has been replaced 5 times. The last time, they had to call japan Hyundai and troubleshoot the issue. They had my car for a week before they determined that the actuator was shorting out the lock transponder, so they replaced that and it worked the longest it ever has, probably about 6 months. Now however the same lock does not lock using the fob or handle lock and it has been joined intermittently by the rear driver's side door. I lock the car using the fob/exterior lock button/interior lock button, and then have to open the front driver's side door and manually lock it. I also check the rear driver's side door, because sometimes it locks and sometimes it doesn't. The thought of having to go back to the dealer with this makes my stomach churn. Now my car has started to have a persistent metallic ticking/tapping noise that gets worse when I idle. Then it is more of a knock. I have received warranty extension information and also the class action notice related to sudden engine seizure and I am afraid that is what is next because all the notices and complaints I have read say it starts with engine knock and then the engine seizes. I have called the dealership and left messages 3 times and no one ever calls me back. I'm guessing it's because they know what's coming. My car has approximately 57k miles and I bought it new in may 2012.
