A loud knocking sound and vibration from the engine for 3-4 seconds when I start the car in the morning. Heavy smoking(more than the usual morning smoke on cold days) sometimes up to five or more minutes. Acceleration and rpmthat don't pass 2000 issues when driving at 60 mph. Random and intermittent stalling when driving, sometimes almost completely stopping or refusing to move after a momentary stop. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. 10 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2019

A knocking sound could be heard under the hood as I started my car up. I took it to the maintenance mechanic immediately, and was informed the engine was going bad. I was instructed to drive it to the nearest Hyundai dealership, which is 4 miles away. Upon starting the vehicle up, I drove it fifty feet away from my mechanic and the engine made a seizing sound and shut off. The car was still in motion and wouldn't stop as the brakes wouldn't engage. I was able to stop the vehicle in the middle of the intersection, just narrowly avoiding a car accident. I had no warning indicators this was going to happen, I had zero engine lights warning of any impending issues before this catastrophic failure of the engine, which almost cost me my life. My mechanic has provided me with a full history of every oil change and repair order for the vehicle. This mechanic is also the general manager of a reputable auto shop and assured me I did everything right and Hyundai sold a lemon. I did take a picture of my dash board 10 minutes prior to this event happening. This can confirm I did not have a single warning light providing a warning before the engine seizing up completely. I have done everything I was required to by Hyundai to maintain the vehicle. But the engine seized regardless. 2013 Sonata se 2. 0 t mileage : 63,223 solid maintenance history on the engine and car. I can provide a comprehensive maintenance list when requested. Need a few days to get the entire history.

Sonata & santa fe sport engine recall / santa fe & Sonata engine control module service campaign. My car was previously recalled and serviced for both these issues in 2015 & 2017. Both issues relate to the same problem. I have recently experienced these issues again for the past month. 1)a knocking noise from the engine that increases in frequency as the engine rpm increases. 2)reduced power and/or hesitation. 3)illumination of the check engine light in the instrument cluster. When contacting Hyundai to notify them of this problem they stated that this had already been taken care of and they are unsure they can consider this a recall or service issue again. "engine recall", my car has only 66,687 miles on it, I have done all the maintenance required with the dealership, it is consuming 1 1/2 or more quarts of engine oil per 1000 miles, the dealership had done the consumption test and they told me its not normal, but they said is not related to the recall. 22 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2017

Was driving car down secondary road around 45mph. Car began to slow in speed, would not accelerate & eventually just cut off. Smoke/burning smell came from engine. Tried to jump it to no avail. Had car towed, mechanic had to hand crank engine to get it started. Mechanic (john @ campbell's in prince george, va) informed me that engine seized & needed a new one. There was a current knocking sound once they finally got it running. Learned of engine recall, had car towed to dealership where car was purchased (gateway Hyundai 2200 walthall center dr. Chester va 23836 804-414-2020 service tech: tommy, service center manager: mr. Carpenter) they informed me of the recall, told me they would test car. After having to call several times, I was finally told that the car passed the engine test and would not be repaired under the recall. I reiterated what I was told by mechanic, car has less than 100,000 miles with no previous issues & regular maintenance & no reason for engine failure. Service tech and manager agreed. Hyundai had them run the same test 3 times. Mr. Carpenter explained that they have told Hyundai my car falls under the recall and should be repaired and after two weeks of having no car, Hyundai still will not repair my engine. Service manager said they hear the knocking but Hyundai is still dragging it out. Meanwhile I'm a single mother of two kids and work full time with a far commute and am spending extra expenses on transportation. Hyundai knows there is a problem, they should stop trying to get over on innocent paying customers and remedy the situation.

Engine is making weird knocking noise. Also is using excessive amounts of oil. I have to keep extra oil to make sure it does run completely out. Purchased car June 2016.

34 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2016

I received a warranty extension notification. Because of manufacturing process mistake there is a potential of a premature bearing wear on my vehicle. A worn connecting rod bearing will produce a metallic, cyclic knocking noise from the engine which increases in frequency as the engine rpm increases. If the vehicle continues to be driven with a worn connecting rod bearing, the bearing can fail, and the vehicle could stall while in motion, increasing the risk of a crash. I did address it to the dealer and requested a repair. I was told that there is no way to determine if my car is effected by this manufacturing defect, until the engine fail, or a crash happens. Such explanation is just not satisfactory. Hyundai offers an extended warranty up to 120000 miles. After that all I have to do is to keep my fingers crossed and face the potential of engine failure or crash. The cost of the repair is about 5000. That whole situation forces me to sell the vehicle before extended warranty expires ( 120000 ). As well as to take chances as far my safety. Extended warranty is just not enough in this situation. I want that defect to be corrected and my safety not to be compromised ( as well as significant potential expense potentially ).

35 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2016

My car began making a knocking noise. At first I thought I had something caught under my car or under but after further inspection it was coming from the engine. I checked oil and all was fine, got an oil change just to be safe but still knocking. Checked recalls and see that they have recalls for the engine knocking and seizing up for 2011- Dec 2012 but my VIN not included, I see others with 2013 as well with same problems and engines have seized up. Bringing car to dealer in the morning and will follow up with what happens. Hopefully I make it to dealership.
