Failure Date: 04/10/2019

Car engine shut off without any warning while driving at around 30-40mph. Was able to restart car but engine shut off again after driving a short distance. Car engine was able to start once more and allowed me to travel to my destination. Later in the day, the car engine shut off while driving again at around 30-40mph during rush hour traffic in a 2 lane extremely busy road and did not restart until a tow truck was able to start the car somehow. Drove the car to a Hyundai dealership where they stated that the engine had completely seized and does not start. During the whole ordeal no check engine or other warning lights were displayed on the dash. Each time the engine shut off there was no warning except the sudden loss of power. Each time the engine shut off the car was in motion and had a high potential of causing an accident.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

I was driving in the highway with 60 speed limit. All of a sudden the car shut down completely and even the steering wheel got locked and brakes weren't working, I saw myself going straight to the front car. I was lucky enough to think of the handle brake be able to stop the car with that. The car was showing eps lights on which I found out later was an engine defect. So I stopped in middle lane of the highway unable to move my car with cars coming at me with high speed. After an hour one car stopped helping me pushing my car with his car to the street. This is not forgivable, my life was in serious risk. I dont know if I should have died in middle of the highway to prove the danger of the situation. The dealership said apparently I have checked it for the recall and at the time they checked there was no problem but after few month it failed all of sudden?!! now they are ordering me a new engine but I can not trust this dealership, company and car anymore.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2018

My car shutdown while I was on the road, thurs. Sept. 20th, 2018 at 10 pm. . I couldn't get to turn back over, couldn't get the hazards to want to stay on, steering wheel locked up. I called 911 based on the fact I was on a back road, and had vehicles passing me in the middle of the night. I then noticed an odd smell, which I mentioned to 911. Less than a minute later, smoke began pouring through the vents. As they ask my location, I noticed a flicker outside my window towards the front end of the vehicle (almost looked like it came from the wheel well). I got out, answered the question, as the entire front end of my car was on fire. Within a matter of minutes, the entire car was engulfed. The fire department reacted quickly, but the car was a loss. I'm currently waiting to hear back from insurance, as I had recently bought the vehicle in Feb. Of 2017, with no knowledge of any problems.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2016

While driving at 55mph the engine just shut off. Was able to restart, but had an internal noise. Had it taken to garage to be told the wrist pin broke on cylinder 1 causing internal damage and engine would need replaced at a cost of about $4500 for a used engine. Have 129000 mile which are 65% all highway miles. Hyundai sent notice of internal engine issues right after the car hit 120000 miles. Interesting timing. Recommend NHTSA force Hyundai to make these issue right with owners.
