1 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2022 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/14/2022

Shifter system malfunction service immediately was displayed on my dash 10+ times which caused me to not be able to shift my car out of drive or whatever gear I was in when this occurred. I was at an intersection and when I was coming to a stop the car displayed this error code and wouldn’t allow me to go until I turned the car off and on twice till it was able to reset back to park then allowing me to start and shift to drive to actually go. This jeopardizes my safety and the safety of others considering my car could give out or not change gears at any given point. This is extremely concerning. The problem has not been reproduced by the dealership but has been in 2 times for this issue within a month. I took pictures and showed it to the dealership and they said Hyundai won’t cover it. They felt bad and believed me so much to the point their service department is covering the cost of the transmission shifter module (tcm) in hopes this will resolve the issue. Only a Hyundai dealership has worked on my vehicle.

2 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2018 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/27/2022

Same problem with this 2018 Hyundai Sonata limited hybrid engine as the already recalled 2017 Sonata’s with the same 4 liter/direct fuel injection engines. At approximately 69,000 miles the problems and check engine light analyzed was done by auto zone and brandon Hyundai (3 times each and finding additional problems each time). I have documentation. P1326 knock sensor indicated engine failure problems p0302 cylinder 2 misfire (occurred next day after repair of this part) u0293 lost communication with hev powertrain control module ( not charging hybrid u1004 h-can c135b-08 no code explanation given c1612-08 can time-out tcm c1611-08 can time-out eps ecm c1614-08 can time-out hcu c2229-08 towed to dealer for repair. These problems occurred from 4/18/22 to 4/27/22 3 times in less than 2 weeks. Car still in service dept today 4/30/22 with no resolution. Failures continued to escalate after each service. Went into “limp home mode” twice. Very unsafe to drive. Stalled, jerked and speed reduced. This happened on I-75 twice and once on hwy 674. Felt in danger each time (especially the last time on 4/27/22). Turned on caution lights and tried to safely pull over. Check engine light blinking and many other engine lights came on. Brandon Hyundai said engine may need to be replaced, but then they want apply “bandaid temporary fixes”: like replace cylinders again and now knock sensor; instead of addressing safety issues of a failing engine. These engines are unsafe! they need to be recalled and replaced before they could causing major accidents due to engines poor performance as it’s failing. The jerking and stalling put me in danger prior to being able to restart the engine to get off the road. Are these a possible fire hazard as well? I’m scared to drive it, whenever I get it back from the dealers service department!.

4 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

Over the last month or so, my car has been losing power while driving. It started happening randomly on the highway and I decided to take into dealership to disables the issue. After a diagnostic test, it was determined to be the pcm. After replacing the pcm, I now have been experiencing this loss of power even while driving on side streets and off highway. I have since been back to this same dealership located in new london CT and have been given another possible cause for this issue and that is the motor. I am extremely frustrated and upset bc not only did I spend 1500 to fix the problem, the problem is not fixed and is actually worse. I have read several forums that indicate a safety recall on my motor however it seems as though my car is outside of the parameters that cover my motor. Please get back to me with any advice or suggestions in going about resolving this safety issue.

5 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2017 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/22/2017

My car has been hesitating and cuts off while driving. Whether I go 25 miles per hour or 70 my car continues to hesitate. When it hesitates I can rev the car with the accelerator to the floor but my car wont engage. I have to take my foot off the accelerator and hope my car re-engages or my engine will cut off and I have to restart it. I have had my car in the shop 5 times. 0n 11/22 orlando Hyundai replaced low pressure fuel pump. On 12/18 per the tech line says high resistance injector harness and fuel rail high pressure sensor needed replacing. On 12/23 the pcm has intermittent internal open circuit. The pcm was replaced and fuel line. 1/12-1/23/18 replace control harness and crank sensor. I placed my car into lemon law. I received a letter from Hyundai to bring my car in today 2/22 I was asked if I had any other problems and told them my car hesitated at odometer reading 10022 miles they check my car and was told my car has no issues found. John mc my service advisor drove my car with me in it he says he knows there is a problem and it hesitated on him and say but we don't know how to fix it. He said today we didn't recreate the issue so we believe your car is fixed. This car is a safety issue. This is the same problem I had with a 2015 Sonata. I traded that in for a elantra that was way to small for me and I traded for this 2017 Sonata. This car is a major safety issue. Not sure what to do. Hyundai needs to find out what wrong with this car so when this problem arises to another Hyundai a solution can be found. Just give me a new Sonata and I would be happy, I bought my car with 6 miles on it do the right thing Hyundai. It's awful scary at 70 mph to have this hesitation begin. What does it take for Hyundai to do something (have an accident?).

6 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/26/2014

I was driving my wife's car home from work and stopped by a gas station for a drink. I came back to the car and started it up. As I was engaging in gear, I noticed the shift indicator on the instrument panel and the shifter was missing. I put the car back in park, killed the motor and restarted. It reappeared, but briefly. As I put it in drive, I felt a violent jerking motion from the gearbox; then the dreaded check engine light reared its ugly head. I drove to the nearest auto parts store to have a guy pull the code(s) for me. It was a failing pcm (powertrain control module) that was giving me drivetrain issues. In regards to electrical, whenever my wife (or anyone else) ride in the passenger side, the interior lights turn on whenever I make hard left turns. Interesting :-/.

7 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2009 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/05/2012

I noticed a shuddering at 90,250 miles, while traveling during the winter at around 30-45 mph, but was very intermittent, and would go away. Then on 10/9/2013 at 102,515 miles, from park, the transmission would not engage into reverse or drive. I could hear the transmission shift, but it was not disengaging from park. Per Hyundai service technician, the transmission was "junk" and would need to be replaced. I contacted Hyundai corporate, during which time I was informed they didn't have my information in their system and that in fact there were 2 recalls that they failed to notify me of, and was told that if I allowed the Hyundai service to do the repair right then, that I would be eligible for their policy reimbursement. One of the recalls was an ecm and tcm software update in which symptoms were improper clutching and DE-clutching of gears when accelerating and decelerating. That shift quality over time caused undo stress on the gearing causing my failure. The repair was made, I then had to pay upfront, and a week later they've denied my policy reimbursement claim due to fluid being the cause of failure. I then provided them with further documentation showing that their own technician re-used 5 quarts of my original fluid on the repair order, and that I followed the maintenance record that was suggested by their own technicians advice when I purchased the vehicle. Drain and fill every 30,000 miles. The last drain and fill was on June 14, 2013. Hyundai did not provide me with any fluid analysis or specs to support their denial of my policy reimbursement. I saved the agents voicemail of the denial in which she stated due to "color" and that alone, was the reason why the claim was denied.

8 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/04/2010

Purchased brand new on June 18, 2010 for my wife. . . Hyundai Sonata GS. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, we began experiencing problems with the car jerking/bucking/slipping in all gears at all speeds (random occurrence) even when the vehicle is traveling at a steady speed while using cruise control. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership here in douglasville, GA six times for repair which has included replacement of the transmission, reprogramming of the pcm, and replacement of the tcm. None of these attempts at repair have fixed the issue. My wife is the primary driver of this vehicle and has come extremely close to being involved in crashes as a result of this problem as the car hesitates/stalls for several seconds after these incidents occur. It has happened several times as she has attempted to merge onto the expressway's here in metro atlanta (#2 in the nation for traffic). Please NHTSA. . . There is something seriously wrong with the powertrain in these vehicles and Hyundai needs to figure out what it is and get it fixed!.

9 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/03/2007

Complaint centers on a pattern of deceptive and misleading representations by Hyundai dealership in las vegas, planet Hyundai. Car was brought to them shortly after July 1, 2007, with a driver complaint of failure to upshift properly resulting in excessively high rpms. Dealer responded by resetting the computer codes after consulting with manufacturer in California, allegedly. Car was returned to owner with promise that if this reoccurred, transmission would be replaced, as per manufacturers direction. Subsequently, a week later the car was returned to dealer with the same problem. The car has been on the dealer's lot since middle of July, no work has been performed, dealer refuses to replace transmission, and car has suffered extensive body damage while on the lot. Dealer adamantly refuses to perform warranty work on car.

10 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem of the 2001 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/23/2005

We purchased a 2001 Sonata. We had it three weeks and the coolant system had to be replaced. Now,just after the warranty ran out(50000. ) we have to replace the sensors in the transmission. This is crazy. This car gives us more trouble than our other cars that have double the miles. I am sure that we are not the only people who have had such problems. I believe that is why you raised the mileage allowance on the newer ones. I will never buy one of these cars again!.
