2 Transmission Sensor problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/10/2020

I have been having intermittent transmission problems for a while now. I've had the codes checked several times and by several people, and each one says that its a code for a faulty automatic transmission temperature sensor. It causes very hard and unpredictable shifting. We've had to stop driving it all together because of safety concerns due to the fact that the last time I drove it I had my 11 year old daughter in the car with me and the car would not shift into the proper gear while going through a busy intersection, and we were almost t-boned by a large SUV, the impact would have been on the passenger side where my daughter was and I have refused to drive or allow the car to be driven since. I have found a very large number of complaints for this same issue on several sites online, most of which I have come across on a Sonata forum. This is a known issue by the manufacturer. This is is not something that is uncommon among these cars, but it is extremely dangerous, and the fact that there has not been a recall issued to correct it is, in my opinion, reckless and irresponsible. We put our lives, and the lives of our family and loved ones, in these cars because we trusted this company/manufacturer to keep us safe, and they have failed and continue to fail by not addressing this issue properly.

4 Transmission Sensor problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/04/2019

As stated in service bulletin 14-at-010 there is a known issue with the transmission temperature sensor. This is covered on there the 2011 Hyundai Sonata's 5/60,000 warranty. This an an element of the transmission and should be covered under the 10/100,000 transmission warranty. Being that Hyundai releases this service bulletin, this sensors possible failure is a know fact and has been experienced by many others as my online research proved. Hyundai should cover this and not have their dealers charged over $700 to correct this known fault in the Hyundai vehicle.

5 Transmission Sensor problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Transmission fluid sensor a circuit range/performance car is jerking when driving.

6 Transmission Sensor problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/08/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to nelley Hyundai where it was diagnosed as a transmission range sensor issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the Hyundai motor club denied the claim. The contact also informed the manufacturer of the service bulletin for the 2015 models. The contact was informed that NHTSA was responsible for issuing TSB's and was advised to call NHTSA. The failure mileage was 74,036.

7 Transmission Sensor problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/16/2013

The transmission temperature sensor (and/or associated wireless harness) failed. We had this happen to two 2011 Hyundai Sonatas in a 4-week span (this one a 6-cylinder, the other a 4-cyclinder with 15,500 miles on it). That caught our attention, prompted us to report it. This one mimicked a hesitate & surge. The other one did that, then became undrivable. Dealers replaced under warranty in both cases.

8 Transmission Sensor problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/08/2011

My skid light warning light kept coming on. They said a brake lamp switch was pulling a fault code, so they replaced it. Nine months later my skid light warning was randomly coming on again. They ran a test again saying it was a faulty brake lamp switch again. Before I could get it in for repairs the transmission range sensor malfunction on Aug 14 2012. Picked up my car again and the skid traction warning light came on again. I took it in again this time the tcs light was on and the shifter was not releasing. They tested the brake switch circuit and found no power to the brake switch. They replaced the fuse box and harness cable. I have called three different dealerships service departments and they all say there is a problem with the brake lamp switch causing the tcs warning light to come on. If it is effecting other cars there most be a national problem and should be a recall before there is a fatality. I have had this car for 2 years now and had it in for electrical problems over eight times. ## VIN passed ## Hyundai Sonata 2011 ##.

9 Transmission Sensor problem of the 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/12/2009

Transmission input speed sensor failure, this problem is shockingly all over the internet, the sensor fails and if your on the highway, you suddenly slam down in speed to almost half your previous speed with a loud bang as the transaxle jumps from 4th gear to 2nd gear and the engine redlines. Due to the failed sensor telling the transaxle to downshift improperly. A inexperienced or less capable driver may have been thrown out of control from the sheer force of the impact when the transaxle mis-shifts from 4th to 2nd when the sensor malfunctions.

10 Transmission Sensor problem of the 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/06/2006

Car had a recall for the oxygen sensors and was taken care of. However, it has been in the shop 3 other times to have the oxygen sensors replaced and I just had another go out past the warranty period. I have also had the car 'slam' into a lower gear while on the expressway and the check engine light came on. When I take it they say it is a transmission sensor and replace it. This has done it five times!! it is very scary when it does this. The car is on it's fourth battery and it has 80,000 on the odometer. I have had numerous other problems too. Now it just will not start, it is going to an independent shop this time. This car has been one big headache!!!.

11 Transmission Sensor problem of the 1999 Hyundai Sonata

The transmission sensors have been replaced several times, I have also complained about transmission problems which dealer stated didnt exist until it went out completely. My biggest problem is with my brakes, they fail from time to time while driving, I once hit a parked car because I had no brake pressure when depressing brake pedal and pumping. Has also happened while in traffic almost causing an accident numerous times, yet dealer says there is nothung wrong with my brakes, I have brought this up everytime I bring my car in for all the other repairs. My airbag wiring is faulty and has been replaced 3 times which I feel is a serious safety issue. My engine stalls occasionally in mid traffic for no apparent reason, yet the recalled part that caused this has been replaced. Dealer offers no explanation and says car is fine.
