2 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/02/2018

In July 2019 2014 Hyundai Sonata as I was driving vehicle stalled. Again in September 2019 vehicle did same thing. Prior to that as I would put vehicle in park and turn off engine the shift nob would not completely be in park position. It would make a noise like it shifted. Took it to huyndai dealership and they were able to approve warranty for engine, but then stated it was going to need new transmission. And that the 3rd shift was difficult. As I look under recalls I see that campaign recall 123 was done 2014. However upon researching came across if dealership repaired a recall and it failed they should have been able to repair the problem. Unfortunately I was not getting anywhere with consumer affairs and getting recall campaign 123 repaired. . I needed vehicle running to get to work so since Hyundai didn't want to repair something they supposedly billed out. I had to pay out of pocket for transmission repair.

5 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/19/2015

Driving the car the transmission stays in high gear and should be down shifting into lower gear makes a grumbling noise then goes away when at higher speeds 45 plus. I have gone back twice to the dealer and they tell me and the the man that worked on the car thats the 6 speed transmission and thats how it works. I owned the same model 3 years before 2012 and never had this happen. I think theres is a problem with the transmission. Nothing has happen to me or my wife. But something is wrong with the cars transmission. This has happen many times before but dealer states nothing wrong.

6 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

There are many problems with this car, steering is #1 at low speed is makes a popping noise, at speed is has dead spots, entire steering assembly could be moved. The transmission is rough and feels like it is hunting and stumbling between 1/2,2/3 shifts, downshifts 1 or 2 ranges at the slightest hill. Back up camera comes on and then goes black in the middle of backing up. Brakes feel like they are slipping if you are braking at low speed on a hill, as in parking. I have taken it back to the dealer 3 or 4 times, they are unable to fix the problems, though they did manage to fix the moving steering assembly the 2nd visit wile denying they did any work. I have attempted to get Hyundai to buy this car back under the lemon law but they say nothing is wrong or it is not severe enough. . . I feel like I have to take a huge loss to trade it in on a dependable car or wait till something fails completely (hopefully not the steering) before they will listen to me.

7 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Where do I start. This car has been more pf a pain than anything. After dealing with the steering sensitivity issue which resulted in new tires at 12000 miles, I now have a transmission issue that the dealer cannot diagnose. Beginning one month ago the car started making a loud whooshing noise eminating from the underside of the car. Thought nothing of it as I assumed that it was the new tires. Then came the transmission clunks after rapidly accelerating then decelerating. A couple of weeks ago the car, on several occassions, would clunk after starting and putting it into gear. Then the transmission would continue to shift hard through every gear, both during the upshifting and downshifting process for appx. 1. 5 miles, then it would resolve itself. I also noticed that the car often fails to accelerate when attempting to overtake other vehicles. The car has been at the dealer for almost a week now and they are unable to determine what is causing this (cannot duplicate during test drives and no codes stored in the computer).

8 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/08/2010

I was driving my 2011 Hyundai Sonata se. I was traveling at 45 mph when the car shuttered made a loud "clunking" noise and downshifted into 4th gear. Car would then fail to shift into 5th or 6th gear. Would not accelerate to highway speeds. I had the car towed to the dealer. They could not replicate the problem but did find code dtc po0748. The dealer replaced the transmission at the manufactures direction. The vehicle was one month old and had 2121 miles on it.

9 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/18/2003

Transmission continually slips between 2nd and 3rd gears. Had vehicle into dealer numerous times. Transmission was replaced at 11,000 miles and within 8,000 miles second (rebuilt -because that's what Hyundai replaces new transmissions with) transmission also began slipping. Slippage is more pronounced in the colder temps. On one occasion, regional service manager drove vehicle and acknowledged slip. He then scheduled an appointment to further diagnose vehicle including electrical system, but this was cancelled the day before appointment when they realized that I had filed a lemon law complaint. From that day on, Hyundai has refused to service the transmission and I am now awaiting lemon law hearing. Most recently, in the cold weather, transmission not only slips but makes loud metallic popping noise when it shifts into 3rd gear.

10 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/01/2003

Transmission made loud clunking noises, brought into dealer, "couldn't duplicate" (typical response), then I found the transmission to be leaking, transmission was replaced at 1500 miles, still had bad shift patterns and hang ups in gears, more so after the transmission was replaced. Also had all sorts of front end noise that naturally got worse after they tore half of the front end out to change the transmission.

11 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2000 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/08/2001

My 2000 Sonata stalls and or flutters intermittenly when shifting from first to second and sometimes from 2nd to third. Transmission was replaced but still is doing the same thing. It has been in the the service department many times but I am told "nothing is wrong with it" there was a loud clank when shifting gears even when parked. One of the main rep from Hyundai came and checked it out and said it was fine. He also drove the car, but the way he drove it was like at being at an indy 500. I asked him to compare my car with any other car on the lot to see if the noise was normal, he refused. I took the car to another Hyundai dealer and was told the car was unsafe to drive because 3 bolts had backed out of the housing thus causing the clanking noise. It still flutters. I have been dealing with this problem since 11-2001. I bought the car in 3-2000. New. The sensor also had to be replaced twice.
