1 Brake Loud Noise problem of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/26/2019

Driving to airport in car. Just pulled in to freeway after stopping at store 45 mins into drive. My 3016 Sonata hybrid limited started making a knocking sound. My boyfriend who is a mechanic recognized it immediatly. Then suddenly engine made loud noise and parts and oil flew all over behind us from underneath car. He managed to get it off road without us getting hit. Waited 4 hours for tow that was covered by warranties I purchased. Hyundai tried to state that only 2 people could ride in tow truck. So one person (there were 2 adults and a child) would have to wait in middle of nowhere while other 2 went the hour back home with tow truck and then came the hour back. There wasn't a gas station or anything around. The car is in shop waiting to see what warranty says about it needing a new engine. All maintenance was done and was in Hyundai shop 5 weeks prior with abs unit needing replaced. There was no warning light or engine light that alerted us to a possible issue.

2 Brake Loud Noise problem of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/27/2017

When depressing the brake my car is making a clicking noise. Went to the dealer and he said it is normal. Previously it was little but now days it is making loud noise while driving. When we depress the brake and try to change the gear from p to d the gear rod is making same clicking noise. When read forums I heard that it is the problem with the solenoid but the dealer does not want to do because he has to do it for free. When asked the dealer he said that it does not come under warranty. Now the noise is really loud and no one is helping me out.

4 Brake Loud Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/04/2016

Vehicle was not used for about 4 weeks in February. Then the car was started in reverse with the foot on the brake pedal. Pedal went mushy with little to no pressure resulting basic loss of brake function while making loud noises. Had to stop vehicle with parking brake. Had vehicle towed to dealer. Service manager drove vehicle, acknowledged the problem, and indicated that rust had accumulated on rotors. He said high/low spots due to rust can result in loss of brake pressure, and loud noise was a result of brake pads rubbing on uneven surfaces. After dealer technician drove several miles and applied brakes, rust wore off and brake function returned. The dealer service manager said the car should be driven every couple days or at least once a week to prevent this from happening. He indicated he could turn the rotors but the rust would just return. I have never owned a vehicle in 30 years where the rotors are so prone to rust resulting in brake failure if not driven for 4 weeks, much less a week. Thankfully this was not noticed at higher speed on a road or this was an accident in the making. I believe there could be a rotor material design or quality issue that is promoting corrosion at such a rapid rate. Dealer's invoice is attached for reference.

5 Brake Loud Noise problem of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

My 2013 Sonata was making a loud noise when I applied the brakes. I took it to my mechanic who stated I needed brake pads and rotors. I was told that it was suspicious that my rear brakes were almost new and the front were worn down to the rotors with 18,000 miles after owning the care over 2 years. The dealer denied any recalls on the brakes. A few months prior, this same car drifted out of parking onto the middle of a busy road. When I took the car to the dealer, they denied any problems with the car. I called the corporate office and was told to take it to another dealership. Hyundai dealerships does not treat their customers with respect and they do not own the problems with their vehicles.

6 Brake Loud Noise problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/20/2011

Left rear brake lining failed causing loud noise when I braked. Also brakes took longer to stop. Had I been going faster it may have caused an accident. Hyundai has a problem with the rear calipers seizing up and not releasing thereby wearing the brake pads out in several miles and causing the rear brakes to fail. I also had this same failure at 12,000 miles and Hyundai replaced the pads and the said calipers were ok. Hyundai said this problem occurs in areas were they use a high concentration of chemicals on the road in wintertime. All other manufacturers don't seem to have this problem, my opinion is there is a design defect in the calipers Hyundai uses and the problem should be investigated and fixed before someone gets killed or injured due to a rear wheel brake failure.

7 Brake Loud Noise problem of the 2008 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

2008 Hyundai Sonata with only 12,600 miles, while driving with 2 small children heard loud noise from back of car while taking a turn. Brought to dealer and was told needed new brake pads due to rust on the rotor. Didn't have them do the work as the cost was large. Brought to our own mechanic who showed us the left rear brake pad was down to metal but the right was normal small wear. He called Hyundai dealer as this didn't seem normal to him either. Warranty only covers up to 12,000 miles so we were out of luck. Hyundai goes on in every commercial about safety and when I think of a car brakes are the most important safety feature there is.

9 Brake Loud Noise problem of the 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/04/2004

The contact's wife owns a 2003 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that there was problem with the braking system. She heard noises, but thought it was noises coming from the roadway. The first time the vehicle experienced brake problems was at 13,873 mile. , the service dealer stated that the rotors were glazed and had hot spots on them. The service dealer turned the rotors without the contact's knowledge. This did not remedy the problem. At 28,000 miles, the contact heard a loud noise, such as an airplane going over the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer. They stated that it would be approximately $25. 00 per wheel to inspect the vehicle to determine the cause of the problem. The contact took the vehicle to dealer, who had lubricated the front brake slides and replaced the rear brake pads. This did seem to have fixed the problem. The contact was going to take the vehicle to dealer to have the 30,000 mile routine maintenance performed to make sure that there was no longer a problem with the brakes. The contact contacted the manufacturer, and they have agreed to reimburse the contact for the repairs.
