Brakes Failed Problems of Hyundai Sonata - part 1

Brakes failed car did not stop once thrown in park I was going into oncoming traffic and could have been seriously hurt!!! afterwards car completely died. I have been having all sorts of issues with this vehicle 2 months after purchase. I have paid for labor several times and each time I get the vehicle back the next day the vehicle is completely dead and needs to be jumped for each use. The dealership really hasn't provided a fix, currently brake fluid sign is on. This car has been towed and serviced at least 10 times. I need help.

My brakes failed in January, and my car hit the garage door. I spent $800 to get them fixed, only to have them fail after five months. Because of this it came to my attention that there was a rear cross member recall for corrosion on my car. To complete the recall, the dealership wants to charge me for all of the rusted parts that will break once they dig to reach the recall. I have been without a car since January, and Hyundai corporate declared my case closed and refuses to assist, after weeks of deliberation, they only addressed the problem of my brakes and not the recall, which they completely left out of their final determination. The dealership cannot proceed and complete the recall because many parts they will have to remove will be unusable, and cannot safely be placed back. Things are at a standstill, and I desperately need my car back and operational!.

For the past 6 months I've been experiencing brake issues. It happens randomly, sometimes while I am driving (at speeds ranging from 20-65 mph) and sometimes when I am stopped at a stop sign. It even happened while I was sitting in traffic on a hill driving into yosemite valley! when it happend, the car issues a warning saying that there is a brake failure and to pull over safely. It feels as if something is dragging on the front wheels and the car stops on its own. I took it to local mechanic but they couldn't diagnose the issue and suggested I take it to Hyundai. I took it into Hyundai this weekend and the mechanic said that they were familiar with the issue and says it has something to do with the hydraulic brakes alerting the system to brake when it shouldn't be. It's going to cost me around $2500 to fix it, which is a hefty sum and unfortunately will have to come out of my wedding budget for my wedding in 6 months. It sounds like something Hyundai should take care of. This is incredibly dangerous, I could've gotten into an accident if the cars behind and around me were not paying attention when the brake failures occurred. I thought I would be okay if it happened after once or twice. But I got really scared when it happened in yosemite since there was no place to pull over so I decided to take it in.

I have a 2012 Sonata hybrid 94,000 miles. I was pulling into a parking lot on 09/21/2019 when I had a complete brake failure. Thank god, I was only going about 10 mph. Brake pedal went to the floor. Horrible grinding sound from all the wheels. Chiming alarm. "hybrid system warning. Check brakes". Parked the car. Got out and looked all around. No leaks. Checked the brake fluid level, and it was ok. Turned the car back on and no brake dash warnings or chiming. Backed car up and no grinding sound. Called dealer. Hybrid mechanic happened to be near phone. I was told to check brake fluid level and turn car off and on to see if it happened again. Already did that with no problems. Had to drive the car home which was 180 miles away. It makes no sense that everything is working fine now. Had a local brake shop check for leaks, etc. No problems. They plugged into the car's computer, and there were no error codes. Reluctant to take it to the dealer when no current problem exists. While driving, the car started braking, lost power steering,stopped and warning on dash said hydraulic brake system, do not drive. I was able to pull onto turning lane. Turned car off, then on again. Warning gone on dash, put into gear and was able to drive no problem. Made service apt. Drove 60 miles before happening again. This time would not restart. Towed to dealership. Was told hydraulic brake system failure. I have 20,000 miles on car but 1 yr out of warranty. $2,700. 00 and 3 days later they say this part has 1yr warranty. If this had happened on freeway it could have become deadly for me. I no longer feel safe in this car.

"takata recall" . . . On March 16th 2019 my wife was driving with a passenger our 2011 Hyundai Sonata limited when an accident occurred at a high speed the airbags did not deploy and the seat belts did not hold them back both were severely injured the brakes also failed to stop the vehicle. I am attaching a picture of the vehicle after the accident I do have the police report however the officer did not mention on the police report to my knowledge about the airbags but when you contact me I can give you the number of the shop that has the vehicle and they can verify that the airbags did not deploy.

The driver experienced a stalled engine while driving. The brakes failed to respond and the steering wheel locked up. My car is experiencing an intermittent problem with the electronic parking brake getting stuck. Sometimes when I shift out of park going into reverse or drive the activated electronic parking brake will fail to disengage like it should. When this happens I will find myself having to move the shifter back and fourth several times until it finally disengages. This occurrence will always be accompanied with an abrupt rough jerking motion coming from underneath the car.

I had an accident this morning in my 2015 Hyundai Sonata se due to brake failure a vehicle stopped in front of me about one-and-a-half crawler and I applied my breaks because I saw when the vehicle stops when I apply my brakes they didn't work it went completely to the floor and had no breaks whatsoever and I slammed into the back of another vehicle at about 45 miles per hour all of the airbags deployed the steering wheel crack the front of my car is demolished I contacted Hyundai to try to find out whether they had a recall on break for the Sonatas and they said that there were no open recall on my car so I found it very strange that they said no open recall on my car but they never said that they didn't have open have any incidents with people with brake failure and I just wanted to make this publicly known that there is an issue with the brakes and I wish if there's anybody else out there that has had a similar problem they would come forward with this because I wasn't hurt very very badly but I got bumps and bruises but I could have died the same way if I was going at a high rate of speed and someone should have stopped I could have killed myself and someone else.

I was driving with my daughter and took a wrong turn ending up on a dead end street on a hill in sonora. When I put it in reverse turned around then started going forward my entire car and brakes failed without warning. I quickly through on the emergency brake that stopped me from hitting a tree. Brakes fail to depress during attempts to start car, occurs at least once per day. Occasionally, when parking car, park position does not register and alarms sound when you try to lock car. Occasional transmission slip during stop and go type traffic conditions.

I was on the freeway driving at 65 mph when the engine stalled and shut off. There were no warning lights indicating an issue with the engine. I was informed later by my mechanic that the engine had a catastrophic failure. The brakes failed because the engine was not running. I was lucky and able to coast to the next exit, the stop light was green and I could make it to safe location. Had the engine failed a few minutes earlier I would have been in the fast lane of the freeway trying to make it to the shoulder. Or trying to stop at a light with no brakes.

100 % brake failure. 45 mph,moderate traffic, 6:30pm Thursday may 7th 2015, dry pavement and approaching traffic that which made an abrupt stop ahead. Stepped on brake pedal, pedal fluttered as if anti locking brake activity was be activated. Car continued to free wheel forward, I stepped harder on brake pedal and pedal began pushing back to me. The harder I pushed the brake pedal the more it pushed back (there was no braking action). The vehicle failed to stop , and had enough distance to stop (I had a minimum following distance of two car spaces) but brakes failed to do so which caused me to crash into the vehicle in front of me. I have owned many cars such as Dodge charger 2006 sxt/chevy malibu 2009 to name a few and never had this problem when applying the brakes. I'm the first owner of this car and this is the first Hyundai I have ever bought.

3 times on January 22, my brakes screamed and failed, almost causing me to crash. Since then, once in the rain, as I applied the brakes, the engine revved very noisily and the brakes failed, again nearly causing an accident. Now, every time I take my foot off the gas pedal and/or apply the brakes, the engine revs. This is a very dangerous situation. Hyundai has told me this incident is not covered by them.

My 2009 Hyundai Sonata with 15000 miles on it started to have noisy rear brakes. I took it to my local Hyundai dealer and was told that because this had been a rental vehicle it may have sat on a lot for an extended period of time and the "slides" froze in place not allowing the brakes to release resulting in premature brake and rotor failure. I believe this is a life/safety issue and should be a recall issue. I don't think a vehicle should have to be driven a minimum number of miles to prevent the brakes from failing in 15000 miles.

Pulled off to the side of the road. Snow on the road. Started to move out to the road again when I noticed a loud grinding coming from the rear brakes. Made it home and took the car to the shop where I bought it, healy Hyundai in beacon NY. Rear brakes down to metal and rotors going. They resurfaced rotors and said it was normal wear and tear. No other explanation. I did not appreciate this because even not having not much of a mechanical background, I never had trouble like this with brakes this early on and I have driven many a car and many miles. The car has 36,014 miles and heaely said the front brakes have at least a year to go. Someone at hyundia needs to get to the bottom of this before this becomes alot worse. Please I hope someone looks into this. Also the dealers need to be honest with people and not blame an perceived defect in my opinion with the brakes on the driver. I have children and don't want the brakes to fail. Please look into this.

Husband driving at low speed, car in front of him stopped; brakes on Sonata failed-hit brake pedal to the floor, but Sonata still did not stop; car was at the dealer (savage Hyundai) the week before for inspection and all was fine; husband hit car in front of him and that person hit another car. In addition, air bags did not deploy even though there was $6700 worth of front end damage; told dealer-said high hit; called Hyundai-implied damage was high and perhaps air bags should have deployed, but make it very difficult to file a formal complaint; said we needed pictures, etc. ; car was at the Hyundai dealer being fixed; both Hyundai dealer and Hyundai corporate not making things easy.
