For a few days prior to the incident, the car hesitated slightly from a dead stop while we accelerated. There were no warning lights from the car indicating any issue. Because it seemed odd, we made a appointment to take the car to the dealership to look into the issue. While waiting for our appointment on July 12th, 2020, merging onto the interstate, there was a failure of the transmission, such that the engine would just spin with no power going to the wheels at higher rpm's. Feathering the throttle, a speed of about 45 mph could be attained on flat ground and significantly slower on hills. After limping it along to a local shop, were were told that the catalytic converter was clogged, causing it to overheat the torque converter, which had failed sending shrapnel through the transmission. They only knew this because they had to take the car apart, since even after the failure, no warning lights came on. We ended up needing a full transmission rebuild, a new torque converter and a new catalytic converter. This is a huge safety issue, especially since there was no indication from the cars warning systems that anything was wrong, even after the transmission failure. This could have lead to a very serious accident on the interstate.

When shifting gears, ie p to r or r to d or p to d, the car jerks / catches. Some have called it "turbo lag". It's definitely most noticeable at a dead stop. I have experienced this "lag" while backing up out of a parking spot and then trasferring to drive, as well as being at a dead stop at a stop sign / red light, and then accelerating. Both experiences have been in the city, highway, turning, and local roads. I don't know what has caused or what is causing this issue. Perhaps it's the torque converter? I bought this car new in Nov 2018 and have had this issue since Jan 2019. I have had other people drive my car and they have also experienced this issue. . Read more...

After 3 hours of highway driving after buying certified used car check engine light comes on. I drive for another hour and then have the code scanned. The code reader says "torque converter solenoid". As well as transmission temp sensor car has 87000 miles roughly. . . As well as sitting at a stop rpms are all up and down engine revs with foot on break and not even touching gas. Vehicle jerks forward when driving on highway and occasionally while parked.

This 2017 Hyundai is equipped with a 7-speed, dual clutch auto transmission. . The problem is a serious hesitation from 1st gear to 2nd gear. In some instances the powertrain momentarily shuts down completely. Also, there is severe chattering when moving forward after a complete stop. I can't tell if the chattering is caused by the gears jumping back and forth between 1st and 2nd or if there is slippage from one of the clutch packs (this a twin clutch pack transmission with out a torque converter). These problems become pronounced as temperatures rise, such as hot summer days. The condition of this transmission has been reviewed by my dealers service department and I have a copy of the work order. I now drive my Hyundai by starting in stick shift mode, than shifting to automatic after 3rd gear. When I visited the dealers service department I was told : "customer complaint couldn't be duplicated". The hesitation, the chattering and occasional shut down of the powertrain is very concerning and obviously is a safety issue that must be addressed.

After 2 hours of highway driving at 70 mph, check engine light comes on. I drive for another hour and then have the code scanned. The code reader says "torque converter solenoid". Hyundai will not pay for any of the repairs. I know there is a tech. Service bulletin for this, so I wanted to nhsta to make note I have problems with this such that it may turn into a recall.
