6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/14/2026

I am reporting a serious safety issue involving diagnostic code p1326. My vehicle developed engine knocking and little to no acceleration and appeared to enter a reduced-power or limp-mode condition while driving. This made it difficult to merge, maintain speed, and travel safely in traffic, creating a risk of collision or becoming stranded in an unsafe location. Based on publicly available Hyundai materials, code p1326 is associated with the knock sensor detection system (ksds) and may indicate abnormal engine vibration, possible bearing-related engine damage, and reduced-power operation. Those materials also indicate that certain vehicles were eligible for software updates, inspection, and possible engine repair or replacement. I request that this issue be documented as a safety complaint and that the dealership perform a full diagnostic inspection, determine whether my vehicle qualifies for any applicable campaign or warranty extension, and provide appropriate repairs.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/13/2026

I am filing a safety complaint regarding my Hyundai vehicle after experiencing a sudden engine failure that appears consistent with known rod bearing and engine defects affecting certain Hyundai engines. While driving, my vehicle began making a knocking noise and shortly thereafter suffered catastrophic engine failure. The engine lost power and became inoperable, requiring the vehicle to be towed. This failure occurred without any prior indication that the engine was about to fail. My concern is that this type of engine failure creates a significant safety hazard because it can occur unexpectedly while driving, potentially causing a loss of power in traffic and increasing the risk of a crash. The dealership inspected the vehicle and engine but did not report excessive sludge buildup. I have provided available maintenance records showing that oil changes were performed during my ownership. Despite this, there appears to be disagreement regarding the cause of the failure. I am aware of reports involving rod bearing and engine failures in similar Hyundai vehicles and believe NHTSA should investigate whether this failure is related to a broader manufacturing or design defect. The cost of replacing the engine is substantial, and consumers may be placed at risk if these failures occur while vehicles are being operated on public roads. I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue and determine whether additional investigation, recalls, or other corrective actions are warranted. Vehicle information: year: 2017 make: Hyundai model: Tucson mileage at failure: approximately 72,000 miles date of failure: [xxx] VIN: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/12/2026

The 2019 Tucson has 60,413 miles. My daughter drives it very low mileage - a couple of miles a day back and forth to school. Friday she was driving and the car lost engine power and it stopped driving. No warning lights. There was a cloud of smoke and it smelled like burning plastic. She was on a busy road but pulled over and quickly exited the vehicle. I had it towed and the mechanic says the engine oil was empty and the engine has seized. We do regularly scheduled oil changes. No lights or warnings and the car just stopped in traffic.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/11/2026

My 2022 Hyundai Tucson experience, a sudden transmission failure at approximately 92,520 miles. The vehicle develop shifting issues and abnormal noises before losing propulsión. While driving. Hyundai diagnosed and internal transmission failure and approved transmission replacement. I’m concerned about the sudden loss of proportion and the safety risk this creates. Hyundai proposed repair is to replace the transmission with a rebuild remanufacture transmission rather than a new transmission. I am concerned about the reliability of the repair following a complete transmission failure.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/09/2026

2017 Hyundai Tucson | VIN: [xxx] | mileage: 75,000 I have owned this vehicle for approximately five years and have experienced severe excessive oil consumption for the past two to three years. The issue was first discovered when the vehicle entered protective mode due to critically low oil levels despite a routine oil change having been performed only a few months prior. I am currently required to add approximately one quart of oil every month to maintain safe operating levels. I visited an authorized Hyundai dealership to have an oil consumption test performed. The dealership informed me that if the test confirmed excessive consumption, I would be required to pay out of pocket for an engine replacement. I declined, as Hyundai motor America has publicly acknowledged this exact defect in the 2017 Tucson through NHTSA recall 21v727000, multiple technical service bulletins, and a class action settlement covering 2014-2021 Tucson vehicles with the nu 2. 0-liter gdi engine. My VIN was found ineligible on the class action settlement website despite the acknowledged defect. Hyundai has admitted this engine suffers from premature bearing wear, excessive oil consumption, and risk of engine failure and fire. I am requesting NHTSA investigate why my VIN falls outside current recall coverage despite presenting identical symptoms to affected vehicles. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/09/2026

While idling at a standstill (in a drive-thru queue), my 2018 Hyundai Tucson suddenly experienced a severe engine overheat, causing the vehicle's air conditioning system to immediately blow hot air and shut down. The vehicle was brought directly to an authorized Hyundai dealership (chapman Hyundai on [xxx]) for an emergency inspection. The dealership's certified technicians confirmed that the electric engine cooling fan assembly completely failed and subsequently caused the main front wiring harness and fuse box to physically melt. The dealership documented this catastrophic electrical and thermal meltdown under repair order #xxx. This is a critical safety defect. A melted engine wiring harness poses an immediate and severe risk of an electrical short circuit, sudden vehicle stalling in live traffic, or a catastrophic under-hood engine fire. Because this component controls the primary cooling of the powertrain, its failure creates an extreme hazard to the vehicle occupants and surrounding traffic. Hyundai must investigate this component failure before it results in a thermal fire incident or an accident due to sudden power loss. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/07/2026

The vehicle severely shudders, jerks, and hesitates from a stop and while making a turn, during both acceleration and deceleration, making it entirely unsafe to drive. The vehicle has been completely un-driveable for the past 6 days. The check engine light illuminated, and on 4/9/26, the dealer documented a failed transmission judder test and kept the car, issuing a loaner. A temporary software patch failed after two weeks. Upon return, the dealer reported they were unable to recreate the problem, recommended returning when the vehicle demonstrates the problem more frequently, and refused to mechanically repair the dual-clutch transmission under my active original-owner 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, basically instructing me to continue to drive a seriously un-safe vehicle. Most recently, a yellow dashboard warning light illuminated, and the vehicle entered a dangerous 'limp mode,' severely restricting power and struggling to move before the light cleared after cooling down. The vehicle is completely un-driveable and parked.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/05/2026

On June 5, 2026, driver was on i25, when driver heard engine making a winding and weird noise. Vehicle immediately went from 60 mph to 40 mph. It was extremely dangerous and driver barely evaded a collusion with several other vehicles. A check oil and engine light came on. Towed back to same Hyundai dealership. They claim engine needs replaced and needs maintenance kit. Total cost $16,892. 87. Note: prior to, in January 2026 the transmission and differential were replaced. Was told there were no other issues (same Hyundai dealership).

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/04/2026

The engine (connecting rod bearings in the 2. 0l nu gdi engine) failed. The vehicle entered limp mode with dtc p1326, then died on the road and the engine seized completely (will not turn by hand when attempted; only clicks on starter). It is currently at first Hyundai dealer in [xxx], under repair order #xxxand available for inspection. The vehicle suddenly lost power and died while driving on the road. This created a significant risk of an accident or being stranded in traffic. I was on a busy highway and almost got hit twice. There is also a known fire risk associated with this exact defect (oil leaking onto hot engine components), as stated in recall 209 (NHTSA 21v727). The vehicle was towed to first Hyundai. They have documented the no-start/seized condition on repair order #xxx. A prior independent scanner reading showed p1326 before the code was cleared. The dealer has not performed the full diagnostic inspection (scheduled around June 11). Hyundai corporate (claim #xxx) has been notified but has not responded after multiple escalation emails. The vehicle first went into limp mode ("engine protection mode") with dtc p1326 on the scanner. Shortly after, the engine died completely and would not restart. This occurred after recall 209 (bearing/ksds campaign) was completed on xxx. Additional details: this is a known issue with premature connecting rod bearing wear. The dealer is refusing to provide a loaner/rental upon drop-off, which contradicts TSB 22-01-023h (dealer best practices for p1326 vehicles). The vehicle has been inoperable since 6/4 . . With no resolution. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/04/2026

Oil consumption engine ticking hesitate to change gears poor acceleration.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/01/2026

While driving my 2018 Hyundai Tucson limited 1. 6l turbo with the 7-speed ecoshift dual clutch transmission (dct), the vehicle has repeatedly failed to engage and hold gears, resulting in loss of motive power in traffic. Diagnostic scanning retrieved codes p074b (unable to engage gear 3), p074b71 (unable to select 3rd gear), p074b07 (gear dropped out of 3rd gear), p092177 (1st gear system referencing failure), and p0921 (gear shift forward actuator circuit range/performance). A Hyundai dealer diagnosed the failure as requiring transmission replacement at approximately 93,000 miles. This is the same 7-speed dct and the same failure mode addressed by NHTSA campaign 16v628000 (Hyundai recall 149) and Hyundai service campaign t1b, which covered 2016–2017 Tucson vehicles but excluded the 2018 model year despite using the same transmission. Hyundai has acknowledged this defect in 2018 vehicles through TSB 21-at-014h and TSB 22-at-007h, which prescribe a tcu software update, but issued these as service bulletins rather than a recall, so owners were never notified. When I requested the TSB software update, the Hyundai dealer refused to perform it. This defect creates a serious safety hazard: the vehicle can drop out of gear or fail to accelerate without warning while in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash — the identical hazard NHTSA cited in granting recall 16v628000. I request that NHTSA review whether the existing recall scope should be expanded to include 2018 Tucson vehicles.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/27/2026

Catastrophic engine failures at 57k miles while driving, resulted in engine replacment under recall warranty. Timing chain replacement done at 93k miles. Second engine failure while driving at 107k. Hyundai refuses to fix the engine.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/20/2026

I have had the car in twice to the mechanic within the last 6 months for check engine light. He said I keep loosing oil, but there is no leak and it's something with the engine. Hyundai will not recall the engine, but I see so many people are having the same issue. On a 2020 vehicle, you should not have engine issues. At what point do they have a recall on this issue, as so many are reporting the same thing.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/19/2026

Unknown -a catalytic converter clogged after being installed - only 14 months following installation, causing rough and unsafe acceleration, inability to shift gears properly, and need to drive with hazards on. It is clear that there is an issue with the engine/exhaust and system in this vehicle. Additionally, the car needs oil added regularly and seems to be burning it, as indicated by low level.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/19/2026

I am submitting a complaint regarding a 2017 Hyundai Tucson ultimate awd equipped with the 1. 6l turbo gamma gdi engine. My vehicle currently has approximately 127,000 miles and has experienced sudden engine knocking consistent with rod bearing failure and/or catastrophic internal engine damage. The vehicle has been properly maintained, including regular oil changes. However, the engine began consuming excessive oil without warning. Upon inspection by an independent repair facility, the engine was found to have extremely low oil levels despite being within the normal oil change interval. After refilling the oil, the engine continued making severe knocking noises, and the repair facility advised that the engine is likely non-repairable and requires replacement. This failure appears materially similar to the rod bearing and engine failure issues already widely documented in Hyundai/kia engine defect investigations and class action settlements involving related gamma and gdi engine platforms. I have learned that Hyundai extended warranties for certain vehicles with similar engine defects up to 15 years/150,000 miles; however, my specific Tucson trim/engine configuration does not appear included despite experiencing the same type of failure. This vehicle has also previously required major drivetrain repairs under warranty, including two transmission replacements and turbocharger replacement. My concern is both financial and safety-related. A sudden engine failure or seizure while driving could create a serious roadway hazard and risk of loss of power in traffic. Additionally, Hyundai dealerships have advised that replacement engines for this vehicle are no longer readily available. I believe Hyundai should further investigate whether the 2017 Tucson 1. 6t gamma gdi engine should be included in existing engine defect warranty extensions and/or recalls.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/18/2026

While operating the vehicle on the highway at speeds around 55 to 60 mph, without warning, the engine suffered a sudden, catastrophic internal mechanical engine failure that resulted in an immediate and complete loss of motive power, rendering the vehicle entirely undriveable. The vehicle was towed to an authorized Hyundai dealership for a formal tear-down and diagnosis. They Hyundai dealership technician formally diagnosed the issue as a catastrophic internal "pin failure" (structural failure of an internal engine pin component). This component defect caused a total mechanical breakdown of the engine assembly. Hyundai motor America has issued a corporate warranty denial for an engine replacement, despite the vehicle being covered under the Hyundai engine ii class action settlement (which extends powertrain protections due to widespread internal engine manufacturing defects), a sudden, un-warned loss of engine power while driving poses a severe and immediate safety hazard to the driver, passengers and other motorists on the highway. Hyundai's refusal to remedy this known structural defect leaves a dangerous vehicle un-repaired. I am requesting an investigation into Hyundai's denial of coverage for structural engine component failures on the 2. 0l nu engine platform.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/14/2026

While driving, the engine began making a loud knocking/rattling noise and the check engine light began flashing. The vehicle experienced a loss of power and was unsafe to continue operating normally. The vehicle was taken to a Hyundai dealership for diagnosis. The engine requires replacement. Hyundai denied coverage, claiming excessive oil consumption and/or maintenance concerns. However, upon inspection, the dealership removed the valve cover and advised that the engine was internally clean and showed no significant sludge buildup consistent with severe neglect. I am concerned that this engine failure may be related to known Hyundai engine issues involving the 2. 4l gdi engine. The failure occurred well before the expected service life of the engine and created a potential safety hazard due to the loss of power while driving. I am requesting that NHTSA review this failure and determine whether similar failures are occurring in 2020 Hyundai Tucson vehicles equipped with the 2. 4l gdi engine.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/13/2026

The car has 57,000miles and needed a new transmission. Safety concern of the transmission failing while driving. There was a persistent and worsening rubbing noise once the car ran for 20 minutes or so. 4 visits to the dealer later, they confirmed the issue and Hyundai issued a warranty to replace the transmission with a remanufactured transmission. When I asked the dealer what happened, he said this was there 4th one in a few weeks. There were no indicator lights or anything besides the noise to indicate there was a problem.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/10/2026

Oil drains very fast even with regular oil changes and maintenance. The vehicle began shaking and then completely stopped with very little warning. Check engine light flashed for under 60 seconds then vehicle would not move forward on the highway creating a major safety hazard. Engine smelled hot and like burning rubber.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/08/2026

The vehicle will not get to highway speed causing it to impede traffic and presenting a safety risk for collision.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/07/2026

My 2013 Hyundai Tucson with 89,417 miles experienced complete engine failure due to severe rod knock from connecting rod bearing wear. This vehicle was brought to our local Hyundai dealership with confirmed diagnosis. This is a well-documented manufacturing defect in the 2. 4l theta ii engine. This vehicle was bought 10/28/205 with 29,494 miles. The vehicle was properly maintained with regular oil changes from time of purchase- records attached. Hyundai denied warranty coverage under the txxm extended program citing incomplete campaign 966 (ksds software update) and improper maintenance. However, I never received any recall notices or campaign notifications. When inquiring about notices, Hyundai cited an address that I have not lived at for over 10 years. This sudden engine failure has left me without a vehicle with Hyundai refusing to address this known problem with their engines. I request that NHTSA investigate this issue as well as Hyundai's inadequate notification practices.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/07/2026

While driving, the check engine light began flashing and the vehicle shook severely due to engine misfiring. The vehicle has had a recurring cylinder 3 misfire throughout ownership. Spark plugs and ignition coils were first replaced around 40,000 miles and replaced again in December 2025 for the same recurring issue. A Hyundai dealership inspected the vehicle and found codes p0300 random misfire and p0303 cylinder 3 misfire. The dealership technician documented that the piston rings did not look good and confirmed the catalytic converter was damaged as a result of the misfires. The vehicle has had an engine rattle at idle, oil consumption, and blow-by since early in ownership. The engine defect is progressive and predates the current mileage. The flashing check engine light and severe shaking while driving at highway speeds created an unsafe condition with other vehicles on the road. The problem has been confirmed by a Hyundai dealership. Hyundai motor America was contacted and denied goodwill warranty assistance. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/06/2026

Engine started knocking luckily I was right by my mechanics place. They said needs new engine. Not to drive as a rod might go right through the engine. Only 98000 miles on it. Maintenance always done on time.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2026 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/04/2026

I experienced sudden unintended acceleration which propelled me over a curb, up an embankment, over a boulder and into a fence. I could have been killed or I could have killed others because I had no control of the car. The Hyundai corporation will not acknowledge this. The car was inspected and declared a total loss and is being moved to a location where it can be stored at no cost. There was no warning. Also this exact incident occurred with a Hyundai kona I owned. That incident occurred on January 8, 2026.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2025 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/04/2026

The cars speedometer screen and radio screen go black and sometimes flicker on and off. This makes it impossible to see the speed. Also the car stalls sometimes when this happens in traffic. The autonomous braking applies the brakes even when there is a large distance from other cars and objects to the point where it has almost caused me to get into an accident on numerous occasions. The driver attention alert comes on and off over and over again even though I’m fully focused on driving and well aware of what is going on and this sometimes happens in a sequence where all of the warning lights illuminate on dash. Sometimes all of the warning lights display on cluster after it goes black and then car says to shift to park when display goes back on causing safety concerns for me in traffic. In addition my sunroof glass is making a loud noise like it’s going to crack.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 04/30/2026

The rocker arm of the engine has failed, causing a repair for a full engine replacement. The car has always undergone maintenance timely, and upon inspection by the dealership technician, the report state the vehicle was up to adequate level. There were no symptoms before the issue occurred, only the sudden catastrophic engine failure.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 04/30/2026

I purchased this vehicle from carmax about 5 months ago. It had 74,xxx miles. Carmax showed no open recalls and a printed sheet from your site showing the same. Several weeks ago, while driving, the engine seized. I sent it to one of the local Hyundai dealers for repair. Hyundai said because recall campaign #966 had not been performed, they would not replace the engine under the extended warranty. When I purchased the vehicle, I had the foresight to purchase an extended warranty from assurant. Eventually I found they will cover the repair. I have to pay the $600 deductible, plus a $350 labor charge for diagnostic work. Here is my problem, carmax told me there was no open recalls (based on your web site), and I counted on carmax having an accurate knowledge about this when I purchased the vehicle. This is particularly disturbing because in 2022 carmax settled out of court with 30+ states in part, for failure to disclose open recalls on vehicles they sold. True, I could have checked myself, but how did your entity report no open recalls on this VIN, and carmax reported no open recalls on this VIN, but Hyundai was aware of the open recalls, and denied an engine warranty repair because the recall campaign had not been completed? there are two other open campaigns, # 933 and #p33 as well. The Hyundai dealer is going to perform these recalls after the repair. To summarize, I purchased this vehicle in good faith that the information provided on the NHTSA sheet, and the carmax sheet were correct there were no open recalls. My bank financed the auto under the premise it was a safe reliable risk for them. Now, I'm going to be out $950 plus rental car expenses I've already paid. Please contact me if you have more questions.
