1 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 10/17/2024

Car is using an abnormally large amount of oil. I reported to Hyundai. They sent me to a Hyundai dealership for an oil consumption test. They confirmed that I do not have an oil leak under the automobile. The dealer is telling me “it’s completely normal to burn through 1 quart of oil for every 1,000 miles”. That would leave my automobile with only two quarts of oil after driving 3,000 miles. The owner’s manual does not state any of this. Now I am paying a significant amount of money on oil consumption tests of which they are telling me I might need several before they might fix the problem. This 2017 Hyundai Tucson is one of the models and years affected.

2 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

Excessive oil consumption! vehicle has less than 60k and I have to check and put oil in about every 1,000 miles. Engine light comes on and this is how I know to check the oil. This is ridiculous and should not be happening. I change my oil as directed at every 5,000 miles and at least 2-3 times before next oil change I am adding more oil. Why am I burning so much oil? no oil is leaking that I can see. . .

3 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/27/2023

The vehicle had been well maintained. Have receipts for most all services. At around 90,000 miles, the car started "burning oil" and needed frequent top offs. At 108,000 miles, I have car serviced and started a road trip. In less than 40 miles, it started to shudder and miss fire on the interstate. Causing loss of power and control. Fortunately, I was able to pull over safely off interstate 40. I did not drive further and had car towed back to town. At dealership, I was told "engine failure" due to 2nd cylinder loss of compression, and new engine is only option. I was denied any service under warranty due to being over 100,000 miles. The dealership will not work with me on variance or goodwill gesture. I have seen in online forums that this is happening to other owners. The vehicle was well maintained and never gave any hint of the pending failure. I am filing this as formal complaint and safety hazard with this vehicle.

4 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 09/12/2022

Excessive oil consumption causing engine failures. Excessive engine oil consumption, will also shorten the service life of, oxygen sensors and catalytic converters, spark plugs and much more. All which I have had to replace since buying vehicle used in may 2021. This vehicle is not on the vehicle engine replacement recall campaign and I am not sure why. There is obviously a major engine manufacturing problem. Hyundai should be responsible for manufacturing problems and they also should do what it takes to fix the problem. My request: for Hyundai to reimburse me the money I have spent fixing, repairing and money spent on oil to operate this vehicle. As all the information shows, this is a manufacturing issue with the engine and no vehicle should consume/burn this much oil. It has been proven that excessive oil consumption causes engine and parts failures. There are no leaks detected either by the dealership or repair shops. Frequently having an oil change doesn’t change anything. I had an oil change (yes I have all receipts of repairs) less than a month ago and I have already had to put in 2 quarts of oil.

5 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/28/2021

The engine check engine light activated and within a few miles while accelerating from a stop sign the engine had very little power, just missed a colision by cross traffic. Upon inspection the engine had very little engine oil. There was no indication of low oil pressure, and the oil was changed at regular intervals as recommended by Hyundai. This vehicle has excessive oil consumption and there is no indication when it is getting very low until the engine fails to respond.

6 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 03/06/2021

Excessive oil consumption resulted in engine failure with out warning lights appearing. Driving down the road, the engine stopped running, battery, oil and check engine lights appeared. The car rolled to a stop on the shoulder of the road. The car then would not restart, but had power and battery life left due to the battery being 1 yr old. The car had to be towed to a mechanic. The mechanic cited engine failure and said it was due to oil consumption. The oil had large amount of metal in it despite it having 128k miles on it.

8 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 01/22/2021

I was driving my vehicle and heard a loud knocking in the engine compartment. I pulled over and turned the car off. I was afraid to keep driving it since I didnt know what the issue was. My car was towed back home. I had a technician check my car and I was told the motor had blown up. My car only has around 67,000 miles on it. I have been informed by the tow company that this has happened to many people with the same type of vehicle that I have. I have not seen any recalls but did find that a previous model was burning oil and damaged the motor.

9 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

When driving on the highway, driver experienced sudden nudge and white smoke started to show. Once pulled over, driver noticed the car is leaking. The ignition would not go. The crank shaft broke in half not allowing starter to go as well.

10 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2015 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 01/06/2021

My car is consuming oil - approximately 1 quart per every 300 - 500 miles. A repair shop said there were problems with the engine and to take it to the dealer. I have paid over $500 so far (replaced guages, spark plugs, and more) - I have completed three oil consumption reports (the dealership is checking the oil)- and the dealer keeps saying the problem is not covered under warranty. I know so little about cars and engines, but feel I am getting cheated. Any suggestions are appreciated.

11 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 12/20/2020

Hyundai Tucson 1. 6l turbo engine burns oil internally before 3,000 mile oil exchange. Started around 75k miles. The truck hesitates and wants to stall. I have to add quart of oil every 2k miles before oil exchange. There is no visible oil leaks. Ignition coil error code diagnostics point to mis-firing of cylinder 2. Replaced spark plugs and switch known good ignition coil but same error code and engine light. This truck make, year and model is well known at oil exchange service centers for running low on oil because it burns oil unknowingly to it's vehicle owners.

12 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 11/20/2020

On regular oil change the mechanic - technician shop commented to me on 11/15/2020 that the Hyundai Tucson 2016 4fwd was 2 bottle of oil low. The mechanics inspected for any leaks. They told me that come back two weeks for free refilled the oil again. On December 20, 2020 and January 20,2021. On the next oil replacement, the same shop indicated that the engine for sure of my Hyundai Tucson 2016 4dfwd was burning oil, for concern that they think in potential future I will need to remplace gasket or head gasket because the quantity of oil is currently burnt. I want to make sure that the vehicle is been maintained well and inspected every miles according to the Hyundai recommendation. Please don't hesitate to contact me and help me out for this solution and potential hundreds people out there due to is not any recall ban for this type of vehicle yet.

13 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 12/21/2019

This evening me and my fianc were driving 45mph down hill on a straight road to get christmas gifts, and all of a sudden out of no where the engine just died/stalled (no warning/dashboard lights). Thank god we were able to coast into a gas station and get off the road safely. The car wouldn't even turn over, so my fianc checked the oil and it was low. The car doesn't leak oil and we do oil changes every 3,000 miles religiously. We carry extra oil in case an oil warning light appears so we added oil to correct fill level. To no luck the car still wouldn't turn over. As it is Saturday night and tomorrow being Sunday we have to wait till Monday morning to get the car to a Hyundai dealer to be assessed by them. Hopefully they will come to the conclusion that the car burns oil out of no where and that the cars oil warning/pressure light is malfunctioning/faulty. In finding that I am hoping the dealer will honor my warranty and replace my engine.

14 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 12/05/2019

The engine is burning oil, there are no leaks and no dashboard warning lights. On 12/5/19, mechanic found a dry dip stick and removed less than 1 quart oil from the engine and examined for leaks. Oil changes are in regular 5,000-6,000 intervals using synthetic 5w30 oil and this issue was not found at the last oil change on 4/11/19. Oil was checked on 12/8/19 and the oil below is already below full.

2015 Hyundai tuscon 2. 0 original owner with 70,000 miles, engine is burning through 1 quart of oil every 500 miles, research indicates that the theta 2 manufacturing problem is the culprit as was the case with sonata recalls. Going to the dealership to demand a new engine as this is thoroughly documented with all theta 2 engines during this time frame.

17 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

My 2014 Hyundai Tucson's engine burned oil and now the engine is completely destroyed at only 108,000 miles. I researched and found that this year, make and model has the same engine as my wife's recalled 2014 Hyundai sonata. Her car is also burning oil and is now going through tests to determine if they need to replace her engine. In the meantime I have a case number with Hyundai. Hyundai can't answer why my model hasn't been recalled yet. I looked online and found a private facebook page of other Hyundai Tucson owners with blown engines. If my car was recalled like my wife's car I would still be under warranty as they extended her to 120,000 miles due to recall. My car is 8000 miles out of the warranty when my engine blew. We're still waiting to hear back from Hyundai corporate as to what will happen with my car. Meanwhile still paying a loan on a car I can't drive. Disgusted and furious are just the beginning of how I feel.

18 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Hyundai Tucson

2014 Hyundai tuscon had engine replaced & still burning oil emitting blue smoke & knocking. Dealership & Hyundai corp have been notified & have yet to fix the problem.

19 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 04/11/2018

Hyundai Tucson engine the vehicle is burning excess amounts of oil. The rate of engine oil loss is over one quart per 500 miles. My mechanic tells me his evaluation is the vehicle's turbo unit causes the engine to run very hot, and the internal seals are breaking down, causing oil to mix with the fuel. The solution is an engine rebuild, which will cost over $3,000. Such a rebuild will result in the same issue arising again after the vehicle is in use for a period of time. The manufacturer has refused to address the issue, as I have corresponded with them about it. The issue is generic to all Hyundai Tucsons with 1. 6 litre turbocharged engine. My mechanic has researched the issue, and says it occurs in all Hyundai Tucson vehicles with this engine configuration. There are other issues related to build quality, transmission, and other components, but this issue of the defective engine design is obviously the most important. The dealer that sold me this vehicle knew of this condition and did not disclose it at the time of sale, and represented that the engine was in sound working order.

20 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

My 2017 Hyundai Tucson consumes more than 3 quarts of oil between filter changes. I noticed the oil consumption around 36k miles. I have taken the car to southtown Hyundai (riverdale, GA) many times for this issue. The dealer did 3 oil consumption test, all failed. I was told nothing can be done at the moment. I even reached out to corporate, with no response back. The vehicle currently has 75k miles on the engine. Please help.
