Hyundai Tucson owners have reported 6 problems related to transmission slip out of gear (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Tucson based on all problems reported for the Tucson.
Vehicle randomly slips out of gear when break is quickly depressed when rolling from a stop. Vehicle needs to be shut down and restarted. A very serious safety issue. Vehicle randomly fails to shift up when accelerating. Another very serious safety issue. Duel-clutch transmission is clearly defective as designed.

My 2017 Hyundai tuscon limited has a dual-cluth, 7-speed transmission that is unsafe and unpredictable. On countess occasions the vehicle has: 1)stalled completely for up to 5-6 seconds after accelerating from a stop leaving me exposed in the middle of an intersection and/or road with oncoming traffic almost causing several serious accidents, 2) randomly dropped out of gear at slow, rolling speeds with the accelerator is pressed, causing the engine to rev and then suddenly jump into gear almost causing several collisions, 3) dropped out of gear going up an incline, 4) stalling when pressing on the accelerator at rolling speeds almost causing multiple collisions. All of these issues happen very randomly, with out any warning, and in slower, stop and go traffic and/or when entering intersections. This is our only vehicle we use between my wife and I, and we no longer feel safe. We have taken it to the dealer several times and they have been unable to fix it. The service representative even stated that they do not know of any definite fix for this defect and safety issue. Hyundai now wants to replace the entire transmission with another dual-clutch, 7-speed transmission, which is not an acceptable resolution, as this transmission is flawed and unsafe. They refuse to buy the car back. Additionally, arapahoe Hyundai in colorado failed to disclose this known transmission issue prior to me purchasing the vehicle. Had I know this, I would have never purchased this vehicle. It is also noteworthy that Hyundai is no longer installing the 7-speed, dual clutch transmission in the new Hyundai tuscon's, a clear testament that they know it is flawed and dangerous. They are being sued: wylie v. Hyundai, case no. 8:16-cv-02102 the NHTSA should force Hyundai to buy all these cars back. It is a totally unsafe vehicle. Why hasn't Hyundai recalled this for all years!!??.

Related to original recall campaign - 16v628000. I had the updated transmission control software/recall installed in November of 2016. The update worked for a time, but performance has steadily declined once again (this software has been either updated or reset by Hyundai multiple times since purchase). I have been stuck at intersections with no acceleration, the ability to accelerate when merging onto freeways is limited (almost impossible to convince the car to shift to a lower gear), and shifting out of 1st gear at low speeds/local traffic is highly sporadic (sometimes it feels like the 'clutch' is half engaged; other times it won't shift out of first, so you accelerate faster than you want and at much higher rpm than would be considered normal driving). Hyundai has just reset the software in my car so that it can 'learn' again, but the update provided with the recall did not fix the problem. I would very much like something to be done as new car owners should not have to update software multiple times per year in order to have their vehicle operate safely.

Fails to fully engage gears, feel like transmission has slipped out of gear, won't always go into first gear when starting out. Or goes into first and second is not there, no power to move until foot is lifted off accelerator, wait a few seconds then try again.
In two separate incidents about a month apart, I was stopped at a traffic light behind several other cars. When the light changed and I pressed the accelerator, the engine revved, but the automatic transmission did not engage and the car would not go forward. It would go backward, but not forward. A warning light came on for a few minutes that said the transmission fluid was too hot and I should stop the car safely. (like it wasn't already utterly stopped, in the middle of a left-turn lane. ) after a few minutes, the warning light went off, but the car still would not go forward, first incident occurred after about 2,400 miles. The dealer said that Hyundai technical told him there was an update to the sensor software that would fix the problem. He said he performed the update. Second incident was about a month and 600 miles later. Different traffic light, different left turn lane, same problem. This time, as I waited 2 hours for a tow truck, after about 25 minutes, the car spontaneously dropped back into gear and I was able to drive it 2-3 blocks before it stopped dead again at another traffic light. In the remaining 90 minutes while I waited for the tow truck, the car would sporadically be able to lurch forward a few feet in low gear before dropping out of gear again and stopping. The tow truck driver who tried to drive the car up the truck ramp experienced the same problem and verified it. Car has been at the dealer now for over a week. Today, Hyundai technical gave it a "fast track" number. Service manager is still waiting for direction from Hyundai technical for what to do to fix it. He told me that my car is not the first car he has seen with this problem. And while my car has been in his shop this week, another vehicle has come in with the same problem.
Transmission keeps slipping out of gear when you put into gear and car won't move. You stop at a light and even though car is in gear it won't move. Flip it back and forth on auto gear shift sometimes it moves. Other times it changes gears or slips out.
