Again the check engine light came on. This is our 2nd engine and the dealer says it is this new engine that needs to be replaced. The Jeep will idle rough, shift on it's own, all the same transmission issues. And now the parking brake locked up and I had to have it towed home. I assume it is the transimission because it still will throw it in neutral while driving.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving, the check engine warning light illuminated, the contact coasted to the side of the road and called a friend who's came out as an independent mechanic san tested the vehicle and a failure code came up (p1d73), grill sutter. The independent mechanic lifted the hood and noticed that the front of the engine there was two plastic pieces of grill shutter detached. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 512,000. Aw.
When driving the check engine light will come on. The vehicle then starts driving very rough shaking the whole car and it has reduced power.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the transmission failed. The vehicle was taken to auto plaza Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep ram 12830 mo 21 highway desoto, mo 63020 phone 636-337-7777 to have NHTSA campaign number 19v447000 (stuck transmission clutch) and NHTSA campaing number 16v529000 (transmission shift) corrected. However, the repairs did not correct the failure. The contact stated the when driving at various speed the gears shifted hard and jerk and hesitated to shift into gear. When the engine was started up the vehicle enteredlimp mode and the service transmission light illuminated and the service parking brake light illuminated, and the check engine light also illumiated. The vehicle was back to same dealer numerous times for the for the failure. The dealer updated the engine and transmission modules and software several times. However, the failure was not corrected. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 85,000. Li.
Bought the car about 6 months ago started having issues with transmission shifting and took it in and they told me all it needed was a software update and still to this day I have even more issues car don't start at time and then when it does check engine light turns on and when I try to put it on drive I big a big club I noise and you can really feel the car shake from the shift and and says service transmission and then all of a sudden all the service light come of by far the worse car I have ever bought!! and tell this day I still have those issues.
This car continues to turn off while I am driving! today it turned off on me on an intersection! the car jerked, started to shake & then many lights came on. The check engine light, the battery light, the brake light, many more (please see picture attached) I bought the car at carmax. Had the exact same issue in November of 2018, got the car serviced under my extended warranty. Now, 4 months later the same issue happened. In November, they informed me the issue was the car fuel injector & a bad sensor in the transmission. Today's issues is still unknown, as the car has to be sent off for evaluation. But today was a very scary situation for me! I would hate this to happen to anyone with children in the car!.
After transmission recall repair, engine replaced due transmission recall repair 3rd time, vehicle idles rough when in neutral, check engine light came on and Jeep died. The vehicle started after a moment and the check engine light went off. Still having same issues after transmission repaired and a new engine due to the dealership resetting the computer instead of repairing the transmission. So new engine and repaired transmission, still having issues. Constant issue with the Jeep idling roughly, sometimes not starting or stalling in traffic on the highway and city streets.
I was in the turning lane to turn into a grocery store and when I accelerated to turn my Jeep accelerated then the check engine light came on the service transmission light, traction control light, service parking brake light, there were several lights that came on and my Jeep was still running but stopped accelerating as I was turning into the store on a busy 4 lane road and I was pushing the gas but the vehicle would not move I coasted into the start of the parking lot where it was now telling me to shift my car into park as I did then shifted back to drive and tried to finish pulling into the store parking lot and still nothing. So I put the vehicle into park shut it off sat for a min turned it back on placed it back in drive the check engine light was still on so I drove it to the nearest auto zone to get the code checked because it was a Sunday (today 10/7/18) and the dealer ship is closed. They were unable to find a code and once the Jeep was turned back on all lights were off. I drove it home and parked it and I am taking it to the deal ship tomorrow. 2 weeks ago Thursday sept 27th my car stalled and shut off at a stop light while taking my kids to school the morning after filling my car with gas. It started back up immediately then shook like it may die again then nothing. No light indicators at all came on during that incident so I figured it could have been bad gas and thought nothing of it since I didn't have any other trouble til today. My children were with me both times and we got lucky this incident that happened today Sunday oct 7th 2018 we did not get hit because I barely made it into the parking.
Vehicle will randomly shut off while in motion. This happened today 7/26/18 and 2 other times this past month. No check engine lights or other warnings. After shutting off nothing on the vehicle works not even hazard lamps.
Transmission has been knocking very hard when I put it into drive. One day when I started my car in my driveway, the check engine light came on and a message stating "service transmission, place car into park then into desired gear. " once I put the car into drive, it felt and sounded like my engine was going to jump out of the car. I tried to turn my car off and restart it, however, I had no success with that. I have had no issues at all with my driving up until this point. I bought my Jeep in December 2013 and this issue occurred November 2017. I service my Jeep on a regular basis and do not drive recklessly. This issue happened all of a sudden. A day before this happened, I did notice when turned my car on and put it in drive, the transmission did "knock" into gear a lot more aggressively than normal.
On September 5th, 2017 as I was driving (in motion) on a busy highway, I lost all acceleration power, my check engine light came on, and 'service transmission' showed on the display. I was able to pull over and I restarted my vehicle and was able to get home. Once there, I called the dealership and scheduled an appointment for the following week. I mentioned, while making the appointment, that the light and 'service transmission' display had gone off upon restarting my vehicle. They assured me that a fault would still be logged and to bring it in. After arriving at my appointment, the service technician pulled the logged code (p072900 (99 - house tech) a), said he has never seen that fault, and because it was no longer active they couldn't help me. There was no explanation of the code, no explanation of possible causes for the code to log, no examination of my vehicle, no recommendations for if it were to happen again.
"service transmission warning and check engine": vehicle moving uphill, auto transmission shifts to lower gear; transmission begins to slip and ability to maintain speed drops; happened in middle lane of interstate; managed to exit interstate and park; very little power to move vehicle; safely parked and turned off engine. Waited 2 - 4 minutes; restarted engine; service transmission warning off; check engine "on". Vehicle operated normal; check engine light went off later; had loosened gas cap and retightened to see if check engine light would go out - it didn't have an immediate effect on the light. Had to maneuver behind 18 wheeler and crawl speed up the exit ramp. Ended up cross ways in a side road for a few minutes while the transmission 'feathered' vehicle to safe spot. No collision this time. Vehicle has been in shop for similar complaint one month earlier. And more times previously.
Just bought with 40k miles one month ago (1/21/2017). 1 week after buying, while driving through the middle a busy city intersection, the engine shuttered and shut itself off. I was right in middle of intersection. The display indicated that I had to put the car in neutral to restart. I did, but it restarted and pressing gas didn't even rev the engine. I waited about 30 seconds and restarted. It worked and I drove away. Found out about safety recall that day and had Jeep dealer do the recall the next day. Then, 2 weeks later, I was in park at the vet with the engine on, the engine stuttered and did the exact same thing. I restarted it and again, pressing the gas. . . Even flooring it. . . Did not even rev the engine at all. I waited about 30 seconds, restarted, and drove off fine. I got an oil change with full synth (0w 20) oil the next day, because of some reports that the oil could be part of the problem. Then only a week later (yesterday, 2/18/17), I was on a trip to west virginia with my wife (140 miles from home), and was driving away from a stop light (turning right) and it did the exact same thing. The engine just shuttered and shut itself off while driving. I was lucky to drift close to the side of the road, but I didn't even get fully off the road, restarted, and no amount of pressing the gas would even rev the engine. I turned it off, waited 30 seconds, and restarted. It works, though it doesn't seem smooth any more, but now the check engine light is on. I've had many vehicles, but have never had a problem like this. I will be going back to Jeep to have them look at it, but I don't want to keep paying for visits where they can't find anything (like a lot of folks with this particular model on the boards). I love this vehicle, but I'm actually afraid to drive it.
Check engine light came on December 17th and when we were able to take it into the dealership for the third time with transmission light on also, they were supposed to complete the repair and did not. As of January 16th, 2017 we have been notified that when the check engine light came on again and was hooked up to be diagnosed the engine needed to be replaced. We cannot get a straight answer on anything but I know it is related to the transmission. All that Jeep has done each time is reset the computer to wipe out the warning lights and sent us on our way. It could have at anytime injured or killed myself, my husband, child and anyone else while we continued to drive the vehicle.
For the 3rd time - check engine light, check gas cap light come on, odometer starts flashing and vehicle loses all acceleration after those lights come up. You can floor the gas pedal and the vehicle will barely get to 40 mph. Last time it was brought to the dealership they performed flashes (3 weeks ago) and the issue went away. Happened again today while pulling out of a busy shopping center and the car lost the ability to accelerate and had to limp it home to be towed to the dealership. The dealership advises they are unaware of any issues like this however there are multiple reports of this make\model\year having this exact same issue. The first time it happened I was doing 80 mph on the interstate and the car immediately dropped to 40 mph nearly causing a collision.
Numerous computer/electrical intermittent issues with vehicle. Most recent episode the care would completely shut down at freeway speeds. No engine, no lighting, as if it was hit with an electromagnetic pulse. This unfortunately locks the steering as well. The key fob is non responsive. After 5-7 minutes (if you happen to not get hit and die), the car comes back to life (interior lights come back and after another minute will start). Also have had "service air bag indicator system", "service parking brake", "service transmission", "4wd system unavailable", check engine light, traction control light, battery light, parking brake amber service light, flashing odometer, flashing d in dash. Dash completely goes blank intermittently as well. Transmission has also been stuck in neutral numerous time (can not turn car off unless in park, cannot shift). Numerous trips to dealer for warranty service. This last time they found a ground connection loose in the driver side kick panel. So if that ground comes loose or frayed, the car can just kill me?.
After only 21000 miles and regular maintenance at the dealership, my check engine light came on. The dealer would not book me a service appointment any sooner than one week out. Two days after the check engine light illuminated, as I was driving on a city street to work, a "service transmission" warning appeared and the vehicle immediately became unresponsive. Even switching to tiptronic and no matter how much the gas pedal was depressed, I was not able to accelerate nor have the engine rpm move beyond 1000 rpm. I was lucky that I chose not to take the highway to work or I would have been rear-ended with the car slowing down so much.
My Jeep Cherokee 2014 has 21181 mileage and the check engine light came on . I notice that that the car was shifting into gear hard and at times would not accelerate when getting on the freeway . So my husband took it to get the oil changed at the dealership where we bought the Jeep and they said everything looked good. Well when my husband left all the dummy lights came on he turned right around and went back to the dealership ,the service manager came out and said the tech put the wrong oil filter on and that they would have to redo the oil change . On a month later the check engine light comes on so we call the dealership and ask if maybe them putting the wrong filter on that I would cause the check engine light to come on . The service manager said no that we would have to take it to Jeep . It is still under warranty because it is under the mileage . But I looked on the complaint forum and seen many people having the same problem some having a hard time getting Chrysler to help them . And almost all of them having the transmission replaced . I find that to be very disturbing considering I have only had the car for 8 months . I feel that the car should be replaced this is a dangerous situation that could cost lives . Thank you . Tacoma wa.
I started my car with push button ignition and it immediately accelerated to 4000 rpm and stayed at that speed for over 20 minutes. During that time, I was unable to turn the car off and could not shift the car. When the engine finally returned to a normal idle speed, I could shift the car but could not accelerate the engine. I would press the gas pedal and nothing happened. . . The engine remained running at idle. I called to have it towed to the dealer and after it sat for an hour or so , it was able to be driven on to the flatbed truck. The check engine light was on. After 5 days, the service manager called and said that they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. The check engine light was not on and there were no codes indicating a problem. They did nothing to find or address this problem and I'm concerned that it could happen again while I'm driving the car. I am also concerned that the engine could have been damaged by running continually at 4ooo rpm for over 20 minutes. . I would assume that this event was caused by a software problem, so I am confident that it will reoccur. Frnkly, I am afraid to drive this car.
I bought a new 2014 Jeep Cherokee limited and after one week, check engine light came on and car wouldn't start. Taken back to dealership and was told it was fixed. Since then the Jeep shifts very hard making the SUV lurch forward at times and other times it will shift into a lower gear when speeds over 50 mph and make the SUV jerk to a slower speed. When cruising down a hill without pushing the accelerator, SUV will shift gears many different times causing the Jeep to lurch forward quickly without warning. When trying to pass a car on the hwy, it takes Jeep a few seconds to "catch" the gear and make it go faster. I have had several near misses of other cars hitting me and me, hitting others due to the unpredictability of speeds and jerking forward. I have had the SUV in the shop 4 times for "software updates" and told that would fix the problem. It has never fixed the problem. Most recent near miss was yesterday 29 Dec due to downshifting wile moving at higher speeds and causing the SUV to slow dramatically without warning.
While in drive engine shuts off unexpectedly as a violent jerk from transmission occurs ( luckily at slower speeds) display says "shift to p to select desired gear" goto park and restart is spinning starter solenoid several retries and its like it never happened, took to dealer and reoccurred enroute dealer asked if "check engine light " came on I said no, he claims thats impossible, then showed him the picture I took of dash, same thing 2 days in a row very dangerous imo.
On September 20th at 5:30 am driving 55mph my 2014 Jeep Cherokee trail hawk suddenly just shut off the whole car. It restated 45 minutes later and I drove it to minot automotive center. The error messages that came on the dash were "service transmission< service emergancy break, check engine light" minot automotive wrote on their diagnostic paper that code u0402 "implausible data recieved from tcm" and code p0975- shift control solenoid b circuit control performance errors were stored. Dealer updated the tcm and pcm software to version for tsbs 18-031-14 rev a and 21-043-15 they cleared the codes the returned. On September 23 the Jeep just died again while driving down hiway at 65 mph, it restarted an hour later and again took to dealer who promply said it would be 4 weeks before they could look at it. Called Jeep/chysler service # and assigned case #27877752 and told someone would call me back. Jeep again died on sept 23 2015 2 more times as the dealer said it was safe to drive and Jeep wouldn't pay for a rental. I never was called back from Jeep so called them again. This time assigned a case manager who just stonewalls me and never returns calls. Jeeps bright idea was to have it towed 150miles at my expense of $664 to another dealer who wouldn't look at it for 2 months. Car dies again while driving 65 on September 24 2015. If we or the other motoring public live thru this it will be a miracle.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated and the engine continued running as the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was merged to the side of the road, where it was turned off and restarted in order to reset the system which resumed normal operation. In addition, the contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 15v461000 (equipment). The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.
Vehicle was being operated on a straight and level road at 45 mph when the dashboard electrical and radio system went dark, and there was a loss of power steering at the same time. In about two seconds, the vehicle restarted without any movement by the driver. She had both hands on the wheel so that she could control the vehicle due to the loss of the power steering. When the vehicle restarted on its own, the normal housekeeping functions occurred on the dash, the radio came back on, and power steering came back. Two lights illuminated on the dash that were not normal. One was the check engine light that came on continuous, and the squigily traction light came on until she was able to pull into a parking lot where she stopped the vehicle and shut the engine off. When she restarted the vehicle, the traction light did not come back on, however the check engine light did come back on in a continuous mode. Vehicle is currently at charlie's Dodge/Jeep dealership in maumee, OH being diagnosed.
The day after we bought the Jeep the check engine light came on ,took back to dealer they reset system. I took in couple months having the Jeep for shifting hard , stalling and not much power up hills. They often told me when taking it to dealer they can't duplicate my problem. After taking in to dealer several times on 5/08/2015 they finally replaced my transmission , it had died on me at a busy intersection wouldnt shift and check engine light on. When got my Jeep back still had the same problems and airconditioner was'nt working properly. So as of now my Jeep back at the dealer for accelerating on its own, stalling,no power, shifting hard and dead gas pedal at times while driving. I have talked with the service manager today and he says they can't fix it if shows no code or he can't duplicate the problem. Thats the story I get when taking it to the shop . I have tried to get them to buy it back and haven't gotten anywhere with that as of right now. I feel that this Jeep is so dangerous that I don't wana drive it anymore.
Driving 80mph on highway when computer shut down, lost power steering, lost response from throttle, rpm went to 0, mph went to 0. Note on dash computer said to shift into desired gear when the car was already in drive. No check engine light came on.
On my way to work on March 16th when my service park brake message came across my screen along with my check engine light and park brake light. About 10 seconds later the service transmission message was displayed. I had no power when I pressed on the gas. I was lucky enough to be in a residential area still and coasted into someone's driveway. I put it in park. When I put it in reverse it shifted hard with a loud thud. It literally sounded like the engine dropped out of the Jeep. I still didn't have any gas power so I put it back into park with another hard shift and loud thud. I turned the Jeep off and back on. I had gas power and it no longer shifted hard but my engine light was still on. Took it in for service the next day. Of course they couldn't duplicate the condition with several test drives so they chalked it up to a software update recall "occupant restraint control module". Fast forward 11 days later, the exact same thing happens. Lost power in gas pedal, service park brake message across screen, changes to service transmission, the engine light, parking brake light and now the traction light all on. When I put it in park then reverse extremely loud and hard thud. Then another message came across the screen, shift to p then desired gear. Put it back into park with a loud, hard thud. Turned off Jeep then back on. Got power back in gas pedal and was able to get it home. Taking it in first thing Monday morning (3/30) for the exact same issue as almost 2 weeks ago. After reading all the complaints on this site and others, it doesn't sound too promising. I bought this Jeep brand new in Nov 2013. And this will be the 4th time its been in for service. The previous two were for a crack in the transmission case causing it to leak transmission fluid (3/3/14) and for a faulty internal controller in my shifter (5/16/14).
After a complete stop at a stop sign, "service transmission" message appeared on the speedometer, check engine light turned on, car was beeping all over the place, and could not accelerate after stepping on the gas pedal 3 times. I had to turn off the car and restart the car on the spot. After restarting the car, engine light stayed on and I was able to drive home. Prior to this incident the check engine light has been on and off for about a few months since I purchased the vehicle on November of 2013. Seems like other Jeep Cherokee owners are also experiencing similar problems if not more serious and fatal. . Read more...
My family and I were at an intersection going south making a right turn onto a big street. As my husband accelerated, the car would not respond, it would not move, it jolted very strong but would not accelerate. There was a message flashing on the console something like shift to p then to d, and the check engine light, the (p)! light and brake light turned on. As we were stuck in the intersection my husband turned the car off and turned it back on but it would not accelerate, he put it in reverse and was able to move the car very slowly out of the intersection. Is was a Sunday morning, we had to wait over an hour to have Jeep roadside send a tow truck. The car was at a dealer for 2 weeks, transmission was replaced. Just got it back but it still jerks when shifting gears and slow to respond when you are at a stop and accelerate. I don't feel safe in the car as its unpredictable, you don't know when the transmission will give out. This was the second time this happened to us. The first was about 7 months after we bought the car, and the second time was about 2 and half months after the first time.
On my way to work one morning, I was driving on a three-lane highway, going roughly 73 mph when suddenly, as I was attempting to maintain my current speed¿consistent with traffic flow¿my vehicle would not enable me to accelerate. During my inability to accelerate, my vehicle¿s electrical system surged, illuminating my check engine light, traction control light, and cabin lights. As a result, in order to remain uninjured, I crossed three lanes of moderately congested traffic, and turned my vehicle off for approximately 5-7 mins. Upon starting my car, I was able to accelerate; however, both lights were lit on my dashboard. After driving 130 plus miles, I immediately drove to the dealership I purchased my vehicle from¿they conducted tests; resulting in a computer glitch. The dealership addressed this by clearing the transmission control module. This answer was very unsatisfactory to me as I purchased this vehicle brand new in June 2014 with less than 100 miles. Therefore, I contacted the manufacture and sought assistance. Since, I have been asked to make an appointment with 2 different dealerships, totaling 4 service visits¿all inclusive. Over all, I am extremely upset and unsatisfied. Buying a new vehicle with transmission issues and or computer issues is not ideal or expected. Now, I am slightly paranoid every time I drive my vehicle¿hoping I will be alive to retell both the dealership and manufacture this problem has been ¿duplicated. ¿.
While parking the vehicle, the parksense feature disabled on its own. Immediately thereafter, the red lightning bolt indicator light appeared on the dash, which has been known to be associated with the electronic throttle control, glow plugs, swirl motor failure (low pressure in rail or fuel rail pressure malfunction) and also speed sensors. The vehicle then revved up on its own without acceleration while my foot was positioned firmly on the brake pedal. Immediately following that, the word "transmission" appeared on the dash, then the check engine light, then the collision indicator as if a car crash had occurred, which it had not. Finally, the power steering became very stiff. Drove the vehicle to the dealership it was purchased from and they said the codes were unknown like hieroglyphics. Left vehicle there. The following Monday the dealership informed me there were 3 software upgrades that were needed on the vehicle, however, those upgrades did not correct the problem. Technician also informed me the car was not safe to drive and they didn't feel safe driving it themselves and got off of the highway during a test run. The technician further explained the vehicle had 3 test runs and failed all 3 and it was beyond their expertise so Chrysler engineers would be consulted this week. Lastly, the technician informed me I "may be ahead of a recall issue. " the car is 5 and half months old. I ordered the car, meaning, I had it made/built from the manufacturer. It was not a car purchased from the lot. Therefore, no other drivers of the car and it is brand new. It is a safety concern, especially since the Cherokee has been out of production for many years until the 2014 release. As a side note, I remember an incident that occurred the week prior when the vehicle had difficulty shifting gears (automatic transmission). Instead it stalled and revved on its own.
I was driving on the expressway doing 60mph. I merged into left lane and began to accelerate to speed limit. Reached 65mph and transmission stalled and threw my vehicle into neutral. I had to pull over onto the shoulder to turn off vehicle and restart. Check engine light remained on as well as message to check transmission. After returning it to the dealership twice, the same thing happened again on 9/22/14 with mileage at 1195.
Check engine light came on and vehicle was running rough. Problem went away but light remained on. Called dealer and we agreed to drive it to see if it acted up again. Light went out two days later. At 734 miles I was turning a corner and vehicle acted like it wanted to stall. Later that day turned another corner and vehicle stalled. I was able to get it off the side of the road. Took about 5 minutes to get it restarted. Took to dealer and they found the engine three quarts low on oil. Flushed engine and changed oil and filter. At 1522 miles vehicle stalled after turning corner in rush hour traffic. Had to push vehicle off of bridge and out of traffic. Got it started and took straight to dealer. Engine was three quarts low on oil again. Engine is currently being replaced under warranty. If vehicle stalls on highway or in heavy traffic somebody could be injured or worse. I understand about bad parts being a certified technician. But if this is a common problem it needs to be addressed.
I was driving my 2014 Jeep grand Cherokee diesel at about 60 mph on an expressway when the check engine light came on. Within seconds the car started to slow down and would not accelerate past 30 mph. The authorized Jeep dealer told me that the car was not regenerating automatically thereby causing these issues. They offered me a free software upgrade to resolve the problem. A year later and the car has been to the dealer 14 times for the same issue. One upgrade after another yet the car will still have the same problems. You never know when this car will become limp. I have almost gotten into several accidents because of being on a highway and going 30 mph because the car will not regenerate automatically. Jeep has not been able to find a solution to the regeneration issues.
