general problems of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee - part 1

While driving through a local street the car stopped and the message on dash board would inform the driver to put the car in park, turn off the car, and start again. This happened approximately 15 times when approaching stop lights, stop signs or going lowered that 20 miles per hour. This also suggested that battery was low. However, the battery level read normal every time.

Battery drains when vehicle is off and not running. If not fully charged the alternator will overwork and not be able to charge the battery for the length of the drive causing the battery to go dead while driving.

Failed power transfer unit. Unable to shift to 4wd because system is not recognizing. Service engine light has come on. This is a widely known issue with the Jeep vehicles and so far there is no warranty extension covering my 2014 vehicle.

The 4wd system is no longer working. Put in park and tried to shift and now I have an error warning light. 4ws system unavailable. Service required. The ptu seems to be the issue but the open recalls I have found do not cover this issue for my vehicle.

Body control module had a recall I had to get it fixed for the 2nd time and it’s giving us issues again,Jeep has 46k miles and steering column control module is faulty and unconnect dash/radio/ac temp is also faulty,replaced blower motor and still having ac issues only mechanic has been jim browne dealer since we have had this Jeep for a year . Jeep jerks when braking and does not brake it goes faster. When pressing gas to drive Jeep goes slower. Jeep dash of connect is blue screen and when reversing rear camera appears and does not disappear not even when in drive or park must turn off Jeep for camera to turnoff.

I was on my way home from alpharetta from a business meeting and my car started to shake really bad on the front. I thought it might have been something my tire caught. But I just put 4 brand new tires and not one light was on on my dash board there have never been any lights come on my dash board since I've had the vehicle. I drove about 10 more mins and it got worse so I pulled over and parked. I couldn't see anything. I was an hour away from home. The next day after getting my vehicle home. I was told that the ignition coil was catching fire as I was driving it. I also have the video in my phone. The car was literally trying to catch on fire and I was told if I would have kept driving it and not pulled over my car would have went up in flames more than likely. I keep all the maintenance done on it and change the tires and if stuff needs fixing I fix it. But I have never had a car start to catch fire as I'm driving it. I have video proof that's what it was doing while the car was running and noone messed with it . This car year make and model shouldn't even be on the market. I already had a recall for the pcm/tcm and that didn't fix anything on the vehicle from that recall. But this problem that happened with me definitely needs to be recalled bc I wasn't near home and was by myself and I could have been hurt if my vehicle would have went up in flames.

I bought this new and when I had 99k miles, the transmission went out. I received a notice that this transmission had a class action lawsuit against Chrysler. I took it to southpoint Dodge in austin texas. Where I purchased it. They argued with me for weeks but finally agreed to replace the transmission. The new transmission only has 27k miles and is having the same transmission problem again.

Approximately 2'years. Ago I was on my way home from work around 10:30 pm. I was in moderate to heavy traffic and the Jeep threw a code saying service transmission. I wasn't able to accelerate. I had to navigate carefully through traffic with my hazards on to get to a safe place to stop. I was finally able to and turned off my car. I let it sit for a few minutes then I try to restart it again. The check engine light was still on it still said service transmission. I tried to put the vehicle in reverse, and it jumped so hard I thought that I had hit something. I turn it back off again and left it off for approximately 20 minutes. I finally tried to restart it and it started fine put it in reverse and it was able to go in reverse and I was able to limp it home. Thank goodness a traffic wasn't too bad I was able to pull over. I took my car to I trusted mechanic and they look through everything and they could not figure out why it was doing that. Not long after I got a postcard in the mail stating that the tcm need to be replaced. I called the number that was on the card and they stated that that particular part was on back order and they would call me. I gave them my information. They never called me back. I tried to go to work again a few days later and the same exact thing. But this time I have video of it. So I took it to my local suncoast Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram not the place I bought it from but within the same hub. I showed them the video the gentleman there said that he was going to bring it back and the mechanics will work on it. A couple hundred dollars later they stated that they had fixed it and it shouldn't happen again. But it did it happened quite a few times, and it tends to happen when the temperature here in florida is a little bit chilly. They actually put a sticker on the hood that said that they had fixed it but they have not. I tried to call and get refunded for the tcm but they said I was not able to. I still have the same issue.

When I made an appointment at an authorized dealer and took it in they said I must wait for parts. They put me on a waiting list. During the waiting period my car started to get a check engine light and over heating warnings which the recall clearly states it’s been recalled from over heating. I contacted the dealer who said they didn’t have a loaner for me and they will contact me when the parts come in. All of a sudden the check engine light went off and the car was ok. Finally the parts came on and we took it right away to be serviced. A week after picking it up it started doing the same thing. I had emails going back and forth with service who claims it wasn’t due to the recall. During this I had a salesman call me to ask me to trade it in and when I said no he said, “good luck with service. ” sarcastically. Finally they told me that they were emailing Jeep awaiting a response. But before this when they thought I would trade it in they were extremely happy. When I decided not to everything changed. My husband who didn’t trust them asked me to have it towed out of the dealer so I did. The car was drivable and no warning lights. Then a day later it starts giving warnings again. The car is now sitting in my garage. If you start it up and drive it the check engine light is on and the thermometer shows the temp going all the way up. I have re-opened my case that Jeep closed on me thinking the car was fixed. It has not been. The car still shows warning engine lights and overheating. It has not been fixed and the recall still stands unrepaired.

When tank is filled up, my car stall or jumps and losses power when in drive and come to a stop, it tells me to put in park. But has done it while driving and just died, but it happens every time I fill up my tank, but it’s bad when I get to a red light and it jumps or when I come to crossing and just jumps in traffic or stops.

While driving the vehicle will shift into neutral while saying it’s in drive. Then alert driver via display center on dashboard to “shift to p then desired gear”. The engine will completely shut off. Put into park, crank the engine, shift into drive then it will drive again.

I honestly have no idea what system failed but I was doing 80 on the interstate and my car shifted into nuetral . All of the lights came on parking brake , brake and then my car would not drive any longer , luckily I was able to coast onto the shoulder but I literally could have been killed. I had just passed road construction that went from 4 lanes to 2 barracaded lanes. I waited 30 minutes and my car restarted like nothing . So I thought maybe it was a glitch until I was driving again and it did it again. I had to keep putting my car in park and then shifting it back to drive . It has not been inspected yet as I'm trying to get it to the dealership without it cutting off .

I was pulling out into a busy road and the clutch stuck and caused the transmission to drop into neutral. I couldn’t move or get the car in gear for 30 seconds while traffic was coming my way. I had to turn the car on and put it back in drive and it slowly pulled away.

Check engine light keeps coming on, then I loose power.

Replaced the oil filter housing unit and filter cap because of oil leak, for the last couple of months, it’s been feeling very rough switching gears, especially when turning from a stop, and now it won’t start, at all. We tried jumping it and let it sit for a little bit and nothing changed. It’s not ticking or trying to start or anything, just the dash lights up with all the lights and the brake pedal is locked, it won’t move at all.

There is 3 things going on with this Jeep. First thing the service shifter is on. Second the power steering will go out and come back on at different times. Lastly if you shut the car off it may not start again for awhile and you will get a message on the dash that says engine to warm to start. I contacted Jeep they said to take it in. We aren’t in a position to just let them keep running diagnostics on our car we have a code reader and it is not throwing any codes. Our Jeep started acting up after they did the one recall on it.

Car has broken down multiple times. Most recent issue: 1car stalled while trying to make a left turn on highway, would not drive forward -dashboard sign said to put car in park -when trying to put it in drive it went into neutral and rolled back -car would not turn off, kept running when we tried to turn it on and off -“battery voltage low”warning signal came on -engine warning signal came on -got it to drive again after a few minutes and parked the car -tried driving it home, same thing happened all over again when were at a light after about 5 minutes -went to parking lot, hood of car was burning hot.

The contact stated while driving, the vehicle decelerated and did not accelerate above 35 mph. The traction light, check engine and, electronic stability control lights was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the parts to do the repair were not available. The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,800.

Check engine light came on, so I took it to my mechanic. Cylinder 1 is bad. The vehicle has 75000 miles and the engine needs to be replaced or at minimum cylinder one has to be repaired. Very expensive repair. I have done regular maintenance and still have an engine problem. I thought the engine would be good for at least 300000.

The engine lifters are tapping, the wiper switch goes out and the windshield wipers stays on and will not turn off and signal light’s doesn’t work neither the cruise controls, the transmission gears gets stuck in between gears and jerk off really fast.

I get error messages that say stop to shift. My car is an automatic, brake comes on when I haven’t touched it, it won’t drive sometime won’t go forward or backwards, tire pressure errors, check engine light comes on when nothing is wrong now it won’t always start. The battery is at 14. 2 I want a new car this one is crap.

On March 7th 2023, I was driving my Jeep Cherokee on NY 96a in 55 mpa traffic, saw the check engine light turn on briefly, the engine seized at this speed, started chugging, and nearly had a traffic accident given the abrupt engine failure. In addition, while I was able to get to the side of the road, the car was stuck protruding off from the shoulder into the lane, the engine would not start to move the car, and it was a very unsafe situation given poor visibility at dusk. At 91,000 miles, it seems very strange to have experienced engine failure that ultimately resulted in a $6,785 repair bill at maguire Jeep/Chrysler dealer in ithaca, NY (vva assembly needed to be replaced, broken valve spring in cylinder 4, roller spun and wedged in camshaft causing lobe damage, vvaa collapsed causing loose rocker and damaging head, valve and camshaft. Cylinder head needed to be rebuilt). This vehicle has had other serious problems in the past prior to this incident including a malfunctioning parking brake in 2020 that resulted in my 6 year old son and I stranded, unable to drive while we baked in the 90+ degree heat, a very costly broken 4wd module replacement 2021, and multiple breakdowns due to starter issues/needing starter to be rebuilt (2022 2x).

Also while driving approximately 45 mph the vehicle suddenly lost automotive power and stalled. The vehicle restarted and operated as normal. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 94,000.

For the last 12-months I have been dealing with the vehicle stalling after filling it up. It first started a year ago and was sporadic but for the last 6-months it has been happening every time I fill up. This is a very dangerous situation to be driving down the road to have the vehicle suddenly stall out. The last time this happened was on Saturday, 2/11/23 and I spent the day fighting a stalling vehicle. Since 2020 the check engine light sporadically comes on. Supposedly there is a small evap leak. After looking into this earlier today I discovered this is a well known issue with all Jeep vehicles. Seeing how this seems to be a manufacturer issue the consumer should not have to keep paying out to fix what was not done right to begin with. Please look into both of these concerns.

My vehicle drives about 30 miles before an alert will appear saying to service transmission. Along with the check engine light coming on. Vehicle will not accelerate and on hills will begin to roll backwards. When this happens the vehicle must be parked for at least 15 minutes and then on startup all codes will reset and return back to its normal operating. Took to dealership several times with error code p1da9 and there was nothing that could be fixed.

Recently, after evertime I fill up with gas, my Jeep stalls out and dies. I don't lose accessories or anything, I lose engine power. My battery like comes on and my dash says "battery voltage low" "put car into park and then desired gear" it takes a few tries to get it started again and it will buck like it wants to stall out or it dies again completely while I'm driving!.
